Awesome video! It helped a lot! Any tips on lead changes? My horse has been anticipating the lead change and starts hopping and turning under me going through the center before I ask for the change.
Very cool trick. Would be a helpful tool for my gelding to learn, who loves to come to the center, and then start looking around like Blondie. Great videos Matt, love them
I do enjoy these mini-tips, but I would love to know more about the physical preparation of your horses. I mean anyone, in any sport whether is judo, gymnastics, bodybuilding, figure skating and whatelse, before will learn a certain manoeuvre has to build stamina, core muscles, flexibility and mental focus. Let say, for reining, in order to do a good spin or a solid sliding stop a horse must have a strong back, powerful hindquarters and hard abdominal muscles or he will be prone for injuries or will underperforme, no matter how much talent that horse has. Now, can you lift a corner of the blanket and show us how you prepare the horse physicaly before starting to teach him specific manouevres? Thanks.
Can you elaborate on how to correctly sea/saw a horse. I have so many people that need more details about that and coming from you would make it a lot easier. Also give examples of how and why please?
Hey thanks for watching. Prob better if I do a video showing that. Basically just applying as little pressure as necessary to get that drop of the head. The see saw is just pulling one rein and then the other until they give. Always start with as little pressure as possible!
How do you get one to focuse on you at higher speeds... got a ranch horse that stops GREAT at home at up to a lope.. but when we get to go work cattle, it’s like he wants to run off after a cow when cattle break... I try to go get back around them and get them going back to the group and then remove pressure off the cow, but once he gets after them he doesn’t wanna stop until he is right on top of them
Awesome insight. I was taught that if you're horse lowers their head to your spurs that it's no different at a stand still, which I do with mine. Just like all their vertical and lateral flexion is a reaction to your spur and not reins. If that makes sense. If my horse is standing there waiting for a queue and I put spur on, they should lower their head because of my spur on. That's what I have been taught here in Australia from Warren backhouse.
I rescued my horse from auction not too long. Making progress one day at a day time. Now I'm watching training videos on how to correct the bad habits I've found on him.
Hi again MATT Nice trick/tip! Never had heard of it but it sure does work. Just takes some patience with the repetitions and some time and as you said not with a fresh horse! Still enjoying all that you share. Thanks...
Love your videos - thank you for all the great information! I was wondering if you’d consider doing a leg wrap video? Polos vs splint boots, favorite brands, knee wraps, maybe a tutorial of how you wrap your polos, stuff like that?
Warwick is an outstanding horseman! I 100% endorse Mr Schiller! Please show him and report back to me! Wrong Thing Hard... Right Thing Easy!! STTDP. Awesome stuff! 💪🏾💯〽️
This trick is perfect for my mare who gets super anxious in the middle. She anticipates spinning and lead departures and really struggles to stand still in the middle. She pushes her hind end out and gets antsy. I’ve done a lot of work on her by moving her feet and making her go the opposite way to where she is anticipating. And that has helped heaps but I can still only get a couple of seconds in the show pen of relaxation so this cue might just help to tie it all together! Thanks so much Matt!!!
Beautiful horse. Any tips on buying a first horse?
Thanks! Patience! Know what you want and then wait for it. Don’t talk yourself into it
"like a cobra" lol
😎😂👍🏾〽️
can you ride her WITHOUT BITS
my mare just tucks her nose and arches is her neck real high. I keep seesawing but then she backs up after a while.

Thanks for subscribing ! I appreciate it 💪🏾💯〽️
Would you be marked down or 0 because of touching your horse?
Good question Judy, a subtle touch of the neck would not sound off any alarms! 😎💯〽️
@@mattmillsreining1 thanks, sir!!!!
Blondie is gorgeous 🥰. I like how she didn’t resist much but rather got more in tune into what you wanted Matt. #Nice
Thanks! She’s the Real Deal! 🔥👍🏾〽️

" I swear to you this is her first time..." lol. I'm going to try this! Calling it the Matt Mills focus cue.
LOL! I promise it was! 🤣💯〽️
When your riding horses that are willing and wanting to learn you can teach them just about anything. Big thing is consistent cues
I will definitely try this ! wow!
Great! If you’re patient enough it Will work! 🤙🏾💯〽️
Great concept to check if your horses is paying attention. Thanks Matt.

Sometimes it’s the little things
Thanks for this video! I'm going to try this with my drill horse. It might help before a performance 😉
Good luck to you! 🤞🏾💯〽️

Matt just a question .. Blondie is Palomino or Cremello ?

Mike
Hey Mike, she’s a Palomino!
Matt Mills thanks a lot for your prompt reply I own two Palominos one male 3yo son’s of WallaWallaWhiz and a 2yo girl daughter’s of Tassas Aristocrat
i really liked how anybody can start teaching this to their horse! i know what i am going to practice later today!!
That’s the idea! Good luck! 💪🏾💯〽️
Loved this!!
Thank you! Many more on my website @mattmillsreining.com
Looooove this thank you!! I have a colt that is soooooo NOT focused that it will be perfect to put something like this on him 🤘 thank you thank you!!!

Matt Mills awesome!! Thank you
What type of stirrups are you using?
What is on her left knee ?
It’s a Classic Equine knee boot. Just provides padding so they don’t get hurt while spinning.
Matt Mills why do u only put it on one foot on most of ur horses
Good question. It has padding all the way around so it both sides are covered. If I have one that Really is clumsy I absolutely will use 2
I’ve always wondered why only 1! That makes perfect sense.
Matt Mills Thanks man I really love the videos and the ride to the futurity series
Love it,i will try it out
thank you
"Seesawing" bad. Anyone with any respect for the horse knows this.
Check out Warwick Schiller... please.
