    Awesome video! It helped a lot! Any tips on lead changes? My horse has been anticipating the lead change and starts hopping and turning under me going through the center before I ask for the change.

    Very cool trick. Would be a helpful tool for my gelding to learn, who loves to come to the center, and then start looking around like Blondie. Great videos Matt, love them

    I do enjoy these mini-tips, but I would love to know more about the physical preparation of your horses. I mean anyone, in any sport whether is judo, gymnastics, bodybuilding, figure skating and whatelse, before will learn a certain manoeuvre has to build stamina, core muscles, flexibility and mental focus. Let say, for reining, in order to do a good spin or a solid sliding stop a horse must have a strong back, powerful hindquarters and hard abdominal muscles or he will be prone for injuries or will underperforme, no matter how much talent that horse has. Now, can you lift a corner of the blanket and show us how you prepare the horse physicaly before starting to teach him specific manouevres? Thanks.

    Can you elaborate on how to correctly sea/saw a horse. I have so many people that need more details about that and coming from you would make it a lot easier. Also give examples of how and why please?

    • @mattmillsreining1
      @mattmillsreining1  4 роки тому

      Hey thanks for watching. Prob better if I do a video showing that. Basically just applying as little pressure as necessary to get that drop of the head. The see saw is just pulling one rein and then the other until they give. Always start with as little pressure as possible!

    How do you get one to focuse on you at higher speeds... got a ranch horse that stops GREAT at home at up to a lope.. but when we get to go work cattle, it’s like he wants to run off after a cow when cattle break... I try to go get back around them and get them going back to the group and then remove pressure off the cow, but once he gets after them he doesn’t wanna stop until he is right on top of them

    Awesome insight. I was taught that if you're horse lowers their head to your spurs that it's no different at a stand still, which I do with mine. Just like all their vertical and lateral flexion is a reaction to your spur and not reins. If that makes sense. If my horse is standing there waiting for a queue and I put spur on, they should lower their head because of my spur on. That's what I have been taught here in Australia from Warren backhouse.

    Love your videos - thank you for all the great information! I was wondering if you’d consider doing a leg wrap video? Polos vs splint boots, favorite brands, knee wraps, maybe a tutorial of how you wrap your polos, stuff like that?

    • @mattmillsreining1

      It’s a Classic Equine knee boot. Just provides padding so they don’t get hurt while spinning.

    This trick is perfect for my mare who gets super anxious in the middle. She anticipates spinning and lead departures and really struggles to stand still in the middle. She pushes her hind end out and gets antsy. I’ve done a lot of work on her by moving her feet and making her go the opposite way to where she is anticipating. And that has helped heaps but I can still only get a couple of seconds in the show pen of relaxation so this cue might just help to tie it all together! Thanks so much Matt!!!
