Thanks, guys! It's always a pleasure listening to Steve Khan speak about his career. He has a very humble attitude. And like all smart people he learns a lot from every experience. I started following him when I bought one of those Columbia brown paper bag Best Of... compilations in the early 80s but became a huge fan in 1990 when he released Public Access. And of course he's gotten even better at crafting his Latin arrangements of many modern jazz tunes on his various Tone Center releases. And definitely give a listen to the archival live release, The Suitcase. Some phenomenal trio performances with Anthony Jackson, and Dennis Chambers.
Legendary is correct. Steve's music fell off my radar for MANY years. "Dailys Bulls" and "Tightrope" popped into my head and the YT algorithm brought me to this interview. Awesome. Thanks for posting!
Thank you very much for this interview with the great Steve Khan! I didn't understand "everything", being French, but it's always pleasant & instructive to listen to mentors! Friendly thoughts from the South of France 😊
Great interview. Love the Joe Sample story. Also love how he talked about his “nest egg”. You don’t hear many top level players this open about personal things.
As they say" "When the pickpocket saw Jesus, all he saw were his pockets." That's in relation to the Steve Gadd story about the single snare drum and his early drum lesson.....
Steve is a living legend, a monster player - and one of the genuinely nicest blokes I know. Proud to call him my friend.

Steve Khan. I'm forever grateful for the Eyewitness Band period! Nothing else like it before or since.
