    So Fauxhammer was saying the ACF was causing exposure issues with the photon m5s. Are you seeing similar issues with the Mars 4 Ultra. I am thinking of buying a machine with one of these ACF films as well as upgrading some of my vats to the ACF and I was wondering if you were seeing exposure and bluriness from the ACF since instead of being clear its more translucent.

      @@matineyang I am more interested in the ACF as stand alone film because you can buy it and install it without having to get an entirely new printer and I am happy with the detail i currently get so if this ACF gives me no noticeable loss of detail but faster print times it is worth spending the $40-100 dollars it costs to get it per printer. Kind of how nFEP was worth getting without having to buy a brand new printer for the speed up and fewer failed prints.

  • @VTeslaV
    @VTeslaV Рік тому +4

    What do you mean with exact same settings? Please be more specific because if you compare fillament printers running at the same speed they will just print at the same speed. What settings are you talking about, is it movement speed? exposure time? Do they all have the same lift height? These are important things since you can easily increase printing speed with resin printers by increasing movement speed and decreasing lift height but that could cause random faults to occure. I can print at super slow speeds on my P1P and at optimized settings on my Ender 3 and make a comparison stating that at the Ender 3 beat the P1P but that would be very misleading.

    • @UncleJessy
      @UncleJessy  Рік тому +1

      I listed it all on screen... everything was the exact same.

      @@VTeslaV Personally I've never found the times to be completely accurate, especially when it comes to travel times. My guess is the Mars 4 is slower than the Mars 4 Ultra instead of the other way around (meaning, the Mars 4 Ultra probably was closer to the predicted print time than the Mars 4). If I were to hazard a guess it's probably the build plate mount design. The 4 point system may result in a more solid and faster separation from the FEP whereas a slight delay on the mars 4 over hundreds (thousands?) of layers as it struggles ever so slightly could easily add up to half an hour. Of course this is all just wild guessing, if not the right answer it's probably something along those lines.

    • @VTeslaV
      @VTeslaV Рік тому

      @@megatherian what I'm trying to get at is that they should have all finished at the exact same time with the same settings but the faster printers should be tunable to be faster. In this case it's simply of software hack that elegoo does to their printers but it doesn't say anything about the actual speeds the printers can actually get to. I would have expected more research and explanation as to why the newer printers are faster and looking at how big that difference actually is (and I am speculating that they will all preform roughly the same).
      A dumb software hack where a printer interprets a 10mm/s speed as 5 mm/s so it will go slower should not be accepted and reviewers should do their job and do research and call out shady manufacturers for playing these kinds lf software tricks. If there is a genuine reason as to why the newer printers are faster for the same settings that can not be achieved with a software change to the older printers I am all ears but at the moment I don't see any reason to believe that is the case

    • @chriswebb9375
      @chriswebb9375 Рік тому

      @@VTeslaV Best guess on why they are faster or slower will be acceleration, if you set a printer to lift at 240 mm/min when it starts from stationary it doesn't jump to 240 mm/min its ramps up the speed, if due to the different release films Elegoo have decided that faster acceleration is possible that may explain the print speed differences. Additionally there maybe waits/processing times which are not directly controlled by the slicer settings but are different between the printers which can add or reduce the time a print takes.

    I think we're hitting diminishing returns in print quality. Not really a big jump from 4k, which is ok, 4k resin printers of this size still produce excellent looking prints, the big selling point of the Mars 4/4 Ultra is speed and not necessarily increased print quality. I think LCD screen resin printers are at their limit, continuing to increase resolution is not the answer moving forward (unless we're talking big printers). Im sure the Mars DLP still has a slight edge over the Mars 4 in print quality despite only having a ~1440p projector whereas the Mars 4 has a 9k screen. In fact DLP is where it's at, you can get prints that approach injection molded parts if you max out the AA without sacrificing quality. 4k DLP printers will be something to look forward to.

    This may be a stupid question but assuming the settings for lift distance and speed, layer height, exposure time etc all come from the slicer software, how is it possible they can print at different speeds? May be a silly question but I hear about printers being fast but assumed it’s down to the resin and what you can get away with. I could believe that a ‘fast’ printer can get the same level of curing from a shortened exposure time across the same resin maybe but when all settings are the same,what’s making the difference?

    • @ItsBoyRed
      @ItsBoyRed 10 місяців тому

      Motor strength and lift speed plays a role.
      The 'Mars 4 Ultra' uses a vat with ACF film, that releases the print from the film ~30% easier, so the motor has a easier time pulling the print off at each layer.
      If you look back you can see its "foggy" and not clear like glass at 1:57
      This will in turn make your prints less sharp as the light from the printer is going through a diffused film, hence why Jesse is having issues dialing it.
      You can just buy a normal replacement vat film to get even better prints, but they will be printed slower.

    Personally never had any issues with a ball joint mount so the quad bolt just adds a cleaning issue for me.
    Auto levelling.. not convinced as if it's not working properly it may be difficult to correct .. at least manually I'll get it correct and tweak it if needed. Again I've never had a levelling issue wrt resin printers especially compared to FDM resin levelling is utterly trivial IME.
    Things I would like incorporated are larger screen interfaces, Magnetic build plates as standard, vent port for extraction & Vat heaters.

    What is your process for getting these fast resin profiles going? I've tried making some faster profiles, but it seems like the tolerances on cure time are razor thin when you get small layers and fast movement, and hit a point where its just not possible. In the end I stick with basic .05 or .025 depending on the model and dealing with the up-to-8hr print times.

      1. It's finally warm again so that takes out one big factor with cold temps and resin settings impact
      2. I will usually run a bunch of smaller exposure tests/small print tests to see whats working and go from 180 lift speeds to 240 to 300 and see how the prints continue to look with the exposure setting I'm trying to work with.
      3. Siraya Tech Fast is super low viscosity which helps a lot when trying to print faster

    The reason the Ultra had worse definition wasn't your settings, it is the ACF film that causes the "softer" details. It seems that Elegoo made a 9k resin printer then gave it the effective resolution of a 4k printer with the ACF film so that it could print faster... why would a company do this? mostly to add keywords that uneducated buyers will look at, like how many k's of resolution and how many X faster it can print. I bet if you swapped in a normal FEP you will see a difference.

    What I don't understand is that the saturn ultra just came out with the 12k resolution on the saturn 3 ultra. Why couldn't they put the same tech into the Mars 4 ultra.

      mars4 9k = 18um, Saturn 3 12K = 19×24μm.

    Feels like we're getting diminishing returns on resolution. Think we need development in other areas like anti aliasing, vat heating etc.

    • @Optix334
      @Optix334 Рік тому

      Its not diminishing, its just gone. 12K sounds nice, but we don't have enough control over the light bleed and how resin cures to be able to manage the micrometer differences between 8k and 12k resolutions.

    • @Nash_Idaho

      the problem here is Elegoo sacrificed its 18um pixel size by using a ACF release film which can significantly speed up the printer but also softens the print. it seems that a sub 20um is probably the threshold for resolution that humans can see but considering this is the first "cheap" printer to get to that size and that companies aren't focused on resolution as much as they are speed, we probably have another few generations before we hit the limit...

      @@UncleJessy basically you take the contours of a pancake (regular) lens, but chop the angles up and segment them so you don't have to have the full thickness of a traditional lens. If you've ever seen those credit card sized magnifying glasses for sale at a walgreens or rite aid, those are fresnel lenses.
      I think the actual reason they're called fresnel lenses is because fresnel is the guy who discovered something about light reflection and refraction being all dependent on the angles within prisms and not their thickness or something like that

    Sad thing is you released this after your big qvc-like sale. Everyone knows you're just trying to boost elegoos sales because you have shares in the company. They win that big title contract with the Chinese government to become a key manufacturer if they beat their competitors total gross sales (not profit). Suddenly your shares in the company and your payouts become major when they start receiving this government backed funding. From these live streams you boosted the sales of a printer that hadnt even been reviewed until after your stream. Sounds like dodgy sales, unrefined designs and a underhanded approach from elegoo as a whole. A once innovative and advaned company resorting to mere 'steamrolling' sales. This information is readily available on the internet for anyone who has a keen eye.

    Does the Mars 4 / Ultra work with the Mercury Plus curing station? or do you need the X or XS?

    • @P1x3lMagic
      @P1x3lMagic Рік тому

      Sure it'll work cause all curing stations are using (+-)405µm UV LEDs
      The only differences are LEDs power and overall dimensions.
