    If you work graveyard shifts, the traffic is not usually a problem. The thing that's really hurting LA is too many homeless which results in polluted run off untreated sewage, so if your thinking of going to an LA beach, keep in mind that there's a lot of untreated sewage that goes into the ocean in LA. Maybe lower rents would help to remedy the problem. LA is a hustle city. You won't find an off ramp that doesn't have some one with a help me sign. I've lived here for 60 years so I know.

    • @mrxman581

      True, there have always been homeless but that's true of most big cities especially in the USA. However, things exploded during Covid. I'm a native Angeleno and it's NEVER been as bad as it was during the Covid pandemic. Things have begun to improve over the last 4-5 months and hopefully it continues.

    I grew up in South Central. I went to School in the Valley to Winnetka Elem and Sutter. You are right, The Valley was like a suburban bubble. I remember feeling jealous of the kids out there because I rode the bus back home to the hood. It is definitely different versions of LA. I left due to being unable to thrive and I got tired of struggling. I moved to Dallas 15yrs ago. Now everyone from Cali coming here. I remember ppl thgt I was crazy for moving to Dallas and now they tell me how smart I was for leaving in 2008. LA was a fun time even being broke, but I needed more out of life.

    LA grinds you down, it strips away all your ego, it's very hard,and it is lonely. I have never been broker, and at 54 I am delivering food to make ends meet.. I wouldn't change any of it. This place will change you like no other place can. You have to pull from resources you never knew you had. You can not be the person you were where you last lived. I came to LA in costume and it has stripped it off and made me real. The homeless allow me to see how hard this place is. It is the city of crushed dreams, but it gives so much, just not what I expected.

      @@wellf502 Hello there! I would say there are Pros and Cons in every country. Too many topics to go into detail: Missing your family and friends as they still are in Germany. Nicer weather all year in Miami. The cost of living is way, way higher here in Miami than in Germany. Less taxes to pay here in Miami is a good thing, not having an automatic health insurance is a bad thing IMHO. Politics are always a to be carefully handled topic. Less general regulations here in Miami/in the US than in Germany (we Germans love our rules and regulations - Haha!) etc. pp. Regarding job opportunities: Yes, I would say there are more here, but keep in mind that there still is a "hire and fire" mentality which you don't have to that extent in Germany. Also, as a German you would have to make sure to have the right visa to be able to live and work here, nothing can happen on a tourist visa of course. Hope that helps...

    People are afraid to merge on freeways in Los Angeles. This is the first thing I hear when I come back to the city. Blair picks me up from LAX and mutters this under her breath as she drives up the onramp. She says, "People are afraid to merge on freeways in Los Angeles." Yeah I lived in LA for 13 years and never felt as if it was my home. I never thought of buying a home there, being from Chicago I got over some of the negativity of LA early on. I survived LA cause I cut my expense to almost nothing my first two years there. I lived in a Fedex Van for two years while trying to get in the film industry. it didn't bother me, as a matter of fact it saved me a lot of worries of not coming up with rent money every month. I'm a prospective actor, getting ready with all my materials and stuff. But I'm also an expat living in Europe (woo dual nationalities). I believe my best chances at an acting career is in LA, so I'm currently trying (curse you inflation) to save money for a move. So no car, no one in LA proper (some family close to the Pala Mesa region, not exact but I want to keep their privacy) but I do have a US passport.
    What would your ballpark of how much I should save before moving be? 10k, more?

    • @IMeMineWho
      @IMeMineWho 7 місяців тому

      Save much more than that as you will need AT LEAST a year of rent and expenses and a good 1 bedroom apt will cost you AT LEAST 2800 a month.
      Having said that, be realistic about your odds. I have been a performer in both tv, film and music for over a decade and a half and have acting credits and music performing credits. In order to join SAG (which at present is still on strike), one has to either have lines in a SAG show or have a number of SAG vouchers from SAG TV or film (not sure how many as I got in with lines). It might surprise you to learn that there are approximately 166k members of SAG in CA..so imagine the amount of nonunion actors! That is why you need at least a year's expenses! And bear in mind that a lot of productions now film in right to work states! At this point, I am concentrating primarily on music after quite some time acting, however if I just started acting today, knowing what I know, I would avoid Los Angeles as a starting point and focus on other states and build a union portfolio first before going to Calif., if at all.

    Hi, I’ve lived in NYC for 11 tears and moved to TX until next year. Coming next year I want to give LA a try but don’t really like the homelessness LA is experiencing. What areas do you suggest in LA or surrounding areas that are not ingested with homeless people. I know NYC has a lot of homelessness but they’re more spread out and not very noticeable. Reach out and maybe we can work on finding me a nice home for next year.

      You're right. The homeless issue did explode during the Covid pandemic but LA wasn't alone in that. Even so, the worst of the homeless issue is only around a 3 block radius near the oldest more industrial part of DTLA. Many other big cities are suffering with it. However, things are beginning to improve.

The reality was full of grim and had a weird vibe. I'm Greek so I'm comparing it to where I live, and there is no comparison in terms of weather, food, or lifestyle Greece is superior, sorry.

    True it has homeless issues BUT so do most major cities in the Western world , Its actually much safer than a lot of UK cities --NY, Chicago, St Louis, and various places in Florida and hands down it has the best weather.- lovely sun 80% of the year , not this Florida, Texas muggy heat, nice dry heat. Then you have a vast number of parks, you have the pacific and you have lots of art and culture.

    Honestly. Los Angeles sucks and the city has gotten insanely expensive . The things that plague the city are getting worse and worse. Crazy homeless people/ tents all over the city. people’s attitudes are worse than all the trash you see on the street. Honestly la is disgusting . Pollution is so bad I got diagnosed with asthma after three years of living here. On top of that the traffic is so brutal that you could sit in traffic for an hour and a half to go ten miles.
    These issues are going to get better and have gotten unbearable in the last 3-4 years and exploded during COVID .
    There are great things . whatever you are into there is an outlet for it. With that being said the industry is changing and a lot of things are being shot elsewhere….. I think you can make your dreams come true anywhere. I wouldn’t move here unless you were pursuing something / but realize it is a TOUGH city and plenty of other cities with way better quality of life……
