It's been a theme since S4 part 1, but I'm glad that this first episode showed just how outclassed Paradis is when it comes to conventional warfare/technology. I've seen a few reactions where people were getting mad that the Jeagerists/Scouts were getting waxed so easily, but it makes perfect sense. Sure they have ODM gear and thunder spears, but they've never actually fought a proper war before. Marley on the other hand is a military state that's used to war and possesses technology a hundred years beyond what Paradis has access to, not to mention the huge boost from the element of surprise. Pieck, Hange, and others said last season that Paradis can't compete against Marley when it comes to conventional warfare.
keep in mind that marley itself is "outclassed" by the other militaries and the only reason they are still on top are the titans.
magath hinself said that the marleyan army is terrible (in fact so bad that he has to pilot piek himself because they dont have anyone else competent enough).
on the other hand, 99% of the scouts/jaegerists/soldiers are rookies.
the entire elite (minus the shiganshia survivors) gor killed by zeke 4 years ago. we know since season 1, that the mps and garrison are pretty much useless canon fodder.
the only good fighters are the locked up scouts.
@@K0K0BB They are not that bad I think it mostly shows how good Magath is. Marley still have incredible numbers and they have conquered many nations. It is just with new technology the tech is evening out the battlefield to the point where Titans are not an advantage. I wouldn't say Marley are behind but rather they are now on a level field with the other countries which mean their power is fading. I think Marley is still one of if not the most powerful militaries in the world. In the future they won't be so they are trying to play the good guys/heroes by taking out paradise so the world is more forgiving to them. Great tactic and the politics are very realistic and happened in real life.
@@zub41r75 well no. in episode 2 of season 4 they literally say "our military sucks", and that they are BEHIND the rest of the world because they rely too much on the titans.

@@K0K0BB Yes but I don't think they said they are behind rather that they will soon be behind. currently, they are still the strongest. Hence their recent win against the mid east. Similar to the British Empire near their end they were still powerful but started losing power after world war 2 as America, Russia and China advanced.

That bit was pretty funny. Lol
Animation looks a helluva lot better. They removed the blurry effects and the backgrounds and designs looks crisp. I couldn't even tell at some parts if it was CG or handrawn. Quality wise this was the best Mappa episode.
It reeks of time and rest.
Next few episodes are REAL PEAK of this story, no joke they gonna break the internet! May kill some of your brain cells as well!

Honestly, after Sole Salvation, Zeke will probably always be in my top two characters of AOT. Maybe even my favorite. That episode was so compelling. Zeke was always keeping his true intentions hidden. Which one could take as a metaphor for his glasses hiding his eyes(since they're the window to the soul). But for the first time, Zeke is laid bare, physically and metaphorically, and he's going to keep moving forward.
The scene where he comes back healed with his eyes shut like that, it's like he reborned. Now he's commited more than ever
