I think everyone forgets about the B Class shield with 1,500 capacity. It's the one that comes with the Shackleton at the HopeTown landing pad. Similar to how the 1600 capacity C Class shield is 'out of sequence' the B Class shield is the 28T Defender(the rest of the line is in multiples of 11, so 22, 33, 44). It does require Starship Design 4 though; unless you buy the Shackleton.
One of my favorite b class ships, I got it yesterday and I got PBO-100 auto turret on it with the vanguard hellfire auto cannon, so my defenses are good! The only thing I hated about this ship it’s the interior it comes in. Omg was there a bunch of ladders. I switch the bay with a stroud and Eklound just because it’s nicer removed literally almost all 1x1 habs. And out a 2x2 cargo hall to give it that freight ship aesthetic in the interior. Put some science and workshop. And just filled in the empty spaces with 1x1 storage compartments. I replaced my shield breaker for this bad boy! And honestly gonna experiment turning it into a C class cargo ship because it’s also easy to edit with its stock placement.
This hauler appeals to me. Can't say why, I just don't care for the looks of Silent Runner and that style of cargo ship. The Pelican seems like a complimentary ship to have in my hanger alongside Star Eagle in the near future. I have a few levels before Pelican is unlocked. And after I recoup from the cost I'll add the cargo capacity you suggested as well as turrets. Meanwhile I'm trying to find the spot for my 2nd outpost. Who knew that one of the games within the game was being a miner? And much more interesting than Eve Online mining. Manufacturing is also far more interesting. Eve is where I get my hankering for fleet satisfied. So in that way Eve and Starfield compliment each other.
Thanks for doing all these ship reviews, much appreciated! It's like Starfield Fifth Gear. 😆 I started over, still in early game. Torn between modifying something like the Razorleaf or purchasing a brand-new ship like the Privateer. Seems like if I buy a ship I'll get components I don't currently have access to because I'm still low level. Right? Thanks again!
Yeah, if you're starting from scratch you want to look into the unique custom ships. They'll give you access to parts that are normally level locked. The War Horse from the landing pad at Neon in the Volii system is probably the best ship for a low level character at A Class piloting: 28 power, decent engines, decent particle beam and lasers. You'll need around 133k credits, IIRC. At B Class the Shieldbreaker from New Atlantis is a stable platform.
My theory is since Taiyo is in Neon which is like just a huge oil rig turned into a cyberpunk fishery city with like 99.99% water they made their ships look like submarines on purpose.
Be careful what you ask for, you may get it. Had to do the sleep on Venus thing to reset the vendor. And then I bought a Pelican. It's what I want for now in cargo capacity. Can't upgrade as much as I would like on my current perks. But may eventually. The real sticking point are the dead end 1x1 modules. What's the point? Really dislike them. I won't even go on a rant about how silly it is to have storage accessible only by a ladder but I could go on for several paragraphs. Still like the look of it. And it's good enough for now. Guess I could just remove the 1x1s??? But I suppose that would lower capacity.
I hope UA-cam doesn't eat this comment as spam, but rather than spend points in that perk you could instead make an Amp production drug farm in the frozen north on Jemison. You'll need a point in Botany for it to work. Basically you get Argon extractors in the snow plus greenhouses that produce Toxins and Metabolic Agents. Then you show up and craft Amp in batches of 99 and use that whenever you actually want to jump 2x as high as normal.
Yeah, I'd definitely recommend that instead of the perk. It's cool at first, but it gets very annoying when you're trying to jump a small incline and you end up in orbit

It's really mind-boggling why they are out of order

Yeah, usually buying certain ships gives you higher tier items even if you don't have the perks to unlock them

At some point I realized Taiyo ships look like submarines and I can't unsee it.

1x1 habitats add nothing to the ship, you'd better off removing them and adding some cargo modules in their places.
