Evil people are only loyal to themselves and only care about being on the winning side. Half the dialogue from episode 5 was a result of whatever ill will Leslie harbors for her parents.
Plenty of grown adults don't understand they're terrible movies. Taste doesn't come with age; you have to teach kids the difference between classics and crap.
That episode was the perfect place to dump the explanation of Cortosis and other "dangerous" metals; the theories of Jedi combat (and why they look obsolete, passive and inferior to those of the Sith); the wild/impulsive behavior that makes Jecki a devilish warrior but not a good Jedi knight, etc. The writers did not have to explain almost nothing more in other episodes and made the actions of the Jedi knights and Padawans more natural and logical.
@magistersolis.3750 I feel the same way. I should get back to my writing because I feel like some garbage gets made just because some talentless hack had the drive to at least complete their garbage.
"This show is actually hypercompetently produced and acted if you consider the core demographic to be kids 10 and younger who want Clue Jr but with occasional light sabers." - Greg's wife, paraphrased This is probably the sickest burn I've heard of this show to date.
Thinking over what Greg Owen said at the beginning of this video, it feels like The Acolyte wants to appeal to two different audiences that can not overlap. The story is childish and stupid enough for audiences under 15, young kids who would like Descendants and Zombies and Wizards of Waverly Place and Just Add Magic, yet it has too much dark and gritty violence and storytelling to really be appropriate for that audience. If there was a way for lazy writing and directing to get *more paradoxical* than being a Star Wars show for an anti-Star Wars audience, this is the way to do that. Leslye Headland said The Acolyte was like if Disney's Frozen meets Kill Bill, which is now less nonsensical than it sounded at first because The Acolyte's audience demographic is too inconsistent with everything about itself. That abysmal experiment _never_ ends well. When The CW tried to do a live-action Powerpuff series with the girls grown up, it ruined The Powerpuff Girls by changing everything about its character dynamics and made Professor Utonium very unlikable and selfish for the reason he created The Powerpuff Girls in Powerpuff. Not only did the original creator Craig McCracken touch upon why Powerpuff had a paradoxical setup to begin, that takes away what made his The Powerpuff Girls series interesting and unique to begin, but the pilot script was "too campy" for The CW when it had so many clashing and disparaging elements in it, that Diablo Cody had to rewrite the whole first episode from scratch to be more serious. After 2 years in production limbo, Powerpuff was finally canceled, so I am thankful that it never got picked up. July 15, 2024, 4:58pm
Disney themselves as a corporation are filthy but they at least portray a positive message albeit very cheaply. It's not very hard to argue someone into a corner who tries to say that Disneys messaging is bad. Then again, you might have a problem with certain people in general. I am getting zealot vibes on this thread.
well, they admitted it, although it was on a captured video meeting that they were very intentionally doing this, and yes, it is specifically for kids.
Holy crap… your wife is a genius. It doesn’t make the show any better, but still. Good on you Greg, you really lucked out. Shame we can’t say the same about the show’s writers.
@@Toneloke-3000 1st time? All of Hollywood has been doing that for decades. You have to go back to the 80s to find films that cast people who look old enough and act mature enough to hold the positions they're supposed to. And don't even get me started on how horny and emotionally unstable they all are.
Big brain move by disney: make a kids show disguised as a show for adults and while the adults are arguing with each about how terrible it is, slip in that agenda. 😳
My 10yo daughter, directly mentioned that, Mae; has a tattoo on her forehead, acts differently, the Jedi Master should easily detect a difference with the Force, and the tracker knows that she smells different. Then we talked about the 'master' stating you can't kill a Jedi with lasers or steel but is fully aware that Mae used a dagger and poison, while he used a lightsaber. We started to guess that 'master' was that other character, I halfheartedly wanted it to be the green skin Jedi Master because 'swerve'.
Greg, your wife is a genius because that's all Star Wars and Marvel has been feeling Disney is turning these franchises into ONE OF THEIR SHOWS The Disney channel show formula is growing on them like a tumor
The Disney channel show formula? Atleast the Disney channel shows are good and even great like Kim possible, Phineas and Ferb Gravity falls and live action ones like Jessie, Good luck Charlie, Wizards of Waverly place, Hannah Montana, Violetta, Soy Luna and so on. This ist Just embarrassing. One of the worst things they done (content wise) in the century
Headland made some reference to something being disney meaning her parents would have let her watch it as a child. So while seeing it as a kids show solves some issues, you then have the problem of moral greyness and why Headland's parents apparently would have been fine with her watching something where the most interesting developments are violent murders. I think Disney allowed some toys to be made. Who is queuing up to buy a toy of Yord, Inara, or the padawan who while very cool is very dead? If you assume the toy company didn't know the plot, then disney still did. What child wants to be yord? What adult fan respect him as an addition enough to want a collectible?
@@victorcates9330 Those are some good questions that Dismal really ought to be asking itself... and asking KK, too. (no. really, they should have given KK the boot a decade ago.)
The deaths in episode 5 were so damn funny to me. Leslye was trying to make it all tragic and emotional, but she forgot to make the audience care about the characters first.
How I imagine these problems get worked through at Disney: *Studio Exec:* So, we read the script and all these deaths lack resonance and impact. Why would anyone care about these characters? *Showrunner:* Oh, because the characters are in the show. *Studio Exec:* Yes...but why would anyone watch the show if they don't care about the characters? *Showrunner:* Because the show is on TV. *Studio Exec:* Works for me. Start shooting!
I get your points about this show. I took my grandson to see the last Hobbit movie when he was about ten years old and he was amazed at that scene where Legolas actually runs up the individual stones of a falling wall, defying gravity as he does. He stared at me when I laughed out loud. He thought it was so cool. I found it silly and laughable. I couldn't take the story seriously after that, but he was engrossed.
I'm not being insulting when I say that none of the DisWars shows are written for anyone above the intellectual age of 12. They're purposefully not! The company's TV divisions across the board are geared towards the "I'm so Raven iCarly" crowd.
@@Laneous14 So was Batman The Animated Series and the entire DCAU. So was Ben 10, Teen Titans, Young Justice etc Kids DESERVE good content. Hollywood just found out that they domt actually have to try
@@gregowen2022 Media execs (and writers) have viewed children as dumb little consumers for as long as mass media have existed. The handful of well-written, intellectually-challenging kids' shows in the '90s and '00s were the exception, not the rule. Prior to that, just about every kids' show was an extended toy commercial, and even in those two brief decades, for every Avatar: The Last Airbender, there were a thousand Loonatics Unleasheds.
The problem is that being a tween show isn't at all what KK and Lucasfilm were going for. But the writing, plot, and dialogue is so bad that it FEELS like it's intended for children under 15. This isn't by design. Don't give them that much credit.
That’s just one of the many layers of absurdity to all of Disney’s messaging. They are so incompetent, they end up humiliating all the groups they claim to be representing
@christophergillette7167 - Which groups is The Acolyte supposedly representing? People who aren't literally explicitly straight white males? Boo f**king hoo, haha. 😂
As an extreme SW nerd, I'm offended that you think I don't already know Ki-Adi-Mundi's name. I'm that weirdo who was thinking when you mentioned that the one girl is 'white Darth Maul', I was like 'while they are both Zabraks, the girl is an Iridonian Zabrak and Darth Maul is a Dathomirain Zabrak because female Dathomirian Zabraks don't have horns' Also, what the heck. Why is Ki-Adi-Mundi here?
My guess is they made some deal... I hope she got AT least a week without dish-washing, in return. That is how my husband and I always handled such situations.
That makes sense when applied to Doctor Who. The musical numbers, hyseterical over-reacting, cute monsters and nonsensical plotting and script suggests it's made for 12 year olds rather than a general audience.
Dude, you honestly give some of the ABSOLUTE BEST reviews on YT. I find you to be very true and honest to your raw reactions but also going the extra mile to try and conceivably see how it can be enjoyed by others. When you said for episode 5 that you “have to turn your brain off to enjoy it” hit the nail on the head! Exactly! There’s stuff to enjoy in the fights but you really have to ignore ALL of the other issues in order to really enjoy and be immersed in a 15 min fight lol this channel is awesome and we need to blow it up
I'm going to be honest; I never thought Smilo-Ren would be Qimir because it was SO ridiculously telegraphed that I thought it had to be a misdirect. Only an absolutely awful writing team would be that obvious, I thought, so it has to be someone else. This marks another instance where I overestimated the basic competence of a writing team. The bar continues to lower..
I'm right there with you. He was so obvious, it seemed like a typical misdirect. They tried to subvert that and it ends up making the "murder mystery show" look hilariously incompetent.
@@gregowen2022 However, just the right signaling for the under 10 crowd. Don't make it too hard, they can guess and feel good about it. But yeah, those arms...Darth Shred indeed.
Same here. I assumed that it was misdirection and thought that it'd be the mother until Osha pointed out that her mom could get into people's heads just like the master did. It was then that I realized that THAT was the obvious misdirection (that only a child would fall for) and that it probably was Qimir, after all.
Imagine how someone who's worked very hard for a long time to finally get to work on a big Disney project like this feels for this to be the product. They have to tell friends and new people they meet that this is what they had been working on. I feel bad for them.
I used to work on cruddy "lifestyle" TV shows. I was embarrassed to tell people the titles. But you know what? I met people who loved those shows! Made me feel worse.
Episode 5 is like the compound interest of stupid. It was stupid to let the apothecary go in episode 2 considering he helped murder a Jedi master AND quite obviously killed the previous shop owner. Every death in the show from here on out is officially the fault of Sol, and the stupidity compounds again because he didn't kill the guy when he had the chance. A SITH IS ONLY UNARMED WHEN YOU ACTUALLY CUT OFF HIS ARMS, PEOPLE! The guy literally just killed someone with his bare hands and he has force powers, he's not defenseless! I swear if you were able to make money like this show makes stupidity you could buy Disney and save us all from this misery. The best thing about this episode is when Sol is screaming at the Sith for killing his padawan and the guy shrugs and says "You brought her here." Absolutely savage.
"Why does Disney think children deserve horrible stories with zero effort?" Umm...doesn't that describe the Disney Channel and Disney+ to a tee? (I confess that I've _always_ hated that cringey kid-focused, over-acting crap typically churned out by the Disney Channel. Every time I tried watching them as a kid I honestly felt my intelligence was being insulted.) [edit: and Yes, I liked my share of stupid kid content that, when I watch it again, is unbearably bad. But there was just something about how hokey and forced that Disney stuff was that disgusted me to the core. It's probably the part of me that semi-matured and learned to hate MTV movies (except for Old School) and productions (especially the pustulant venereal disease of Reality Shows) in my teen and young adult years, lol.]
I was in middle school during the High School Musical/Hannah Montana/Zach and Cody era and had friends who were OBSESSED. Those shows made me viscerally angry. They were horribly written, with weak acting and poor directing. The characters didn't act like any human beings I knew. None of the jokes landed or even made sense. A few years later the girls who liked those were into Friends, which was the same thing but ostensibly aimed at adults, although I will admit that the actors on Friends were good, just given awful scripts and direction.
Remember that pose from episode 1? "Fight me, with all your strength". My reaction was like : "What are u, twelve?" And she did that pose and cringe words twice or maybe three, dunno
Greg- He (Ki-Adi-Mundi) was only there, purely, so the audience would go '"Hey he was from one of the movies!" Me- Well, they accomplished that! Also, Darth Shred sounds pretty good to me, especially if it's for tweens.
I think I’ve uncovered another issue with the show: there are no stakes. The worst thing that could happen is that a couple of Jedi I don’t care about could die, which I know isn’t a big deal, because it does happen and I felt nothing. Jason Mendoza has no plan other than to get an apprentice, and he doesn’t seem to have one anymore, so now he’s just an aimless bozo. He’s not gonna almost overthrow the Republic, or take down the Jedi Order, or anything.
True. I grew up on the prequels (make fun of me if you want to) The stakes were honestly pretty high, Anikin was "the chosen one" every saber combat scene I was on the edge of my seat thinking "If Anikin dies, then what happens?" Furthermore Anikin didn't WANT to fall to the dark side, his motivation was to save his mother and Padme from death, and that spirals his mind down the path to the dark side to where he would do anything to protect the man who promised to teach him the way save them. You're onto something here.
If I like an artist or I like their art, I will try to shut my brain off if needed. I genuinely do not like KK, the people she hires, or 95% of what Disney has done lately. So… nah, I’m not turning my brain off. I see the idiocy, I see the flaws, and I have no remaining motives for extending mercy. YOU however are immensely entertaining.
I remember watching a review for The Marvels, where the reviewer concluded the movie was basically a Disney Princess movie, not even for women but for little girls. I don't remember all the staples but I remember: Having a dancing scene, and the protagonist being married to a prince, making her... TA-DAM!!! A princess!!! She also mentioned the dialogue, the ilogic of some scenes, and the fact that the villain was not killed by the heroin. All spectacle, not substance or consequences
Now that you mentioned it, I probably would have gone nuts over this at 10. But by 13 I would have thought it was dog water. Even I had standards by then.
Is there a shred of explanation why Mae fights Jecki the Padawan when she tries to arrest her? A minute ago she had decided to turn herself in to the Jedi, now that one wants to cuff her she fights?
The script was likely changed. Because they wanted to create mystery, then realised that Dave Filoni and the staff of lucasfilm could not comprehend the mystery elements.
This is the best take I've seen and I've watched alot of these for some reason. Makes sense. I'm not even a Star Wars fan. Just something so interesting about watching something epic get destroyed in real time. I imagine it's the same that people had watching thr hindenburg without all the death
If you've ever seen the finger puppet parody of Star Wars (it's called Thumb Wars), you'll understand how funny the line "I am your mother!" COULD have been. This show just got even LESS fun somehow.
The Sith who easily defeated and killed several Jedi died from giant flying moths? Someone needs to get these writers a list of Jedi/Sith powers they can read minds so that the twin swap doesn't work against mind readers.
I just realized something. If Sol had gone with Yord's suggestion in Ep2 of going into Qimir's shop and mind reading him, instead of choosing Jecki's plan and embarrassing Yord, he might've discovered right then that Qimir is Sith and Yord and Jecki might still be alive.
I noticed a lot of Disney+ shows don't follow a three-act structure for their episodes, so they feel like never-ending fetch quests where nothing gets resolved. The best serial dramas, like Lost in Space, Game of Thrones, One Piece, all contain three acts in each episode while also telling the overall story in a much larger three act style. So you can watch an episode or two, feel like something indeed happened, but still be excited for the next episode. The Acolyte is so amateurish, and you hit the nail on the head when you said it's for 10 year olds, but I swear it feels like it's written by 10 year olds. "And then, and then, and then..." with no structure is exactly how they tell stories.
The show is not made for kids, that's actually the writers iq and emotional maturity level. Look at the people that defend this show and all your questions will be answered 👍
The mum is definitely the main “villain”. She’s behind it all, and kills people and uses the dark side but for the “right” reasons. I have a fear X23 survived.
I thought the same thing… I was young when original Star Wars came out I went to afternoon showing on advice from my older brother. I came out of that theater a different kid that would go on to a high tech career after joining marines. No doubt would have joined the Jedi if I could have lol. And that’s what really worries about what’s going on with Star Wars now… it’s not like Disney is concerned with profits… that’s obvious now… what are they concerned with? Could it be they are more concerned with conditioning our children? I disagree on jecki I don’t think she was feeling anger I think she was feeling a self righteousness that leads to confidence… you see in kids when they start to have success it builds their confidence… she was becoming confidence she could fight him… I thought it was awesome! best moments in the whole series. Worries me they are teaching children the dark side is soooo strong! Kids have enough problems now days.
I can’t count how many times the characters would just stand there in front of an obvious threat and I would be yelling “run away you idiot!” At least Disney actually had the courage to kill the annoying boyband and alien girl duo. The Sith guy is probably my favorite character because he seems like the only one that actually does things
Your wife and 10 year old are apt; this is a _DISNEY_ show in the disguise of Star Wars. Granted, the brutal violence says "Not just for kids!" yet the writing is written and intended for Disney's major demographic; children. Looking at it with this mindset only makes it worse as even great shows intended for 10-12 year olds actually had substance. This is just "look at the shiny keys being dangled!"
If Disney truly made the show for 10yr olds and completely disregard the core fans that grew up with Star Wars they did themselves a disservice. Because The adult fans are leaving in droves and unsubbing from Disney+, which ultimately leads to the 10yr olds never having the opportunity to see/like the show and become fans of Star Wars as well. They would have been better off trying to do something like what most of Pixar's movies do by trying to appeal to both tween's and adult fans who have tween's. However that would require better writing and imagination.
Honestly, I liked Yord more than Jecky. Not really anything to do with Jecky the “character” more just the way the writers used her. She had all the plans, knew all the information, figured out everything first, defeated the evil twin who killed a Jedi master, and held out the longest on her own against Smilo Ren. She was just such a blatantly obvious Mary Sue. Yord was the annoying stickler for the rules, but at least he showed a soft spot for good twin, and real fear for the Sith. I was really rooting for him to just knock good twin out and get her to the ship because that would have been funny and he would have finally showed some backbone. But instead he just follows her like a lost puppy. Again. The using the helmet was smart but his momentary intelligence didn’t last very long. I really didn’t care much for the characters but I was more disappointed with Yord because at least Jecky got to look cool while dying. Yord died like an afterthought.
"I feel a presence in the force I haven't felt for a long time." And "I feel a great disturbance in the force." They should have been able to sense a Sith from miles away."
Wow!!! Your wife nailed it! This show was indeed written for those who are very easy to impress (not saying all young people are like this). But at a young age you don't have that many life experiences to write a great story or plot, and most of Hollywood celebrities live in a secluded, protected environment. Fanfiction comes to mind. When I was younger, Jeff the Killer was all I heard about until I read it for myself. There were so many plot holes and things that just didn't make sense, yet edgy teens would praise it to the heavens. It takes great skill to write a good show with conflict that involves characters that go beyond just being side 1 good, and other side bad. Plus, working events out without have plot conveniences were an element works in scene one but that same element doesn't work in scene two.
I'm so happy that you noticed and mentioned the trees falling the wrong way. I know its a really REALLY small nit pick compared to everything else. But it bugged me when i saw it because it looked wrong and would have been so easy to fix - have the cut slanted the other way... Thank you.
7:00 your theory is also reinforced by the line of dialogue she says about needing to take a break for a bit, and "i have to fight a wookie after this, i'm taking a break". that moment where she realises her motivations have been dumb this whole time, thats the most real writing in the whole show.
My thoughts: 1) what's in the mug? 2) I gave up on episode 3 and apparently, I've missed nothing. 3) Better lightsaber fight scenes doesn't equal good. 4) The plot is all over the damn place 5) Sol's powers that he used in episode 1 should have ended this entire show in episode 2. 6) Stenberg is pretty, but her dance game is terrible. 7) ... there is no seventh point.
Considering Star Wars was made for kids from the beginning, words from George Lucas' mouth, it's kind of sad that this is where the franchise has ended up. Star Wars made the impact that it did because it was smart children's media. Deep and meaningful children's media. It was children's media that was so good that at its best, we all forget that it's for kids because it's just a really good story and the target audience doesn't matter because it hit adults in the splash damage with ease. Now we're here, unable to avoid noticing that the only people this Star Wars show can actually land with is young children. It's a backwards result.
And leaving lights sabers on the ground for anyone to find them, and not bringing back the bodies of esteemed Jedi's to be displayed in fancy funeral on the home planet with all the honors like they always did. This episode alone had more then 60 things that made ZERO sense, two per minutes.
The best kind of kids' content is the kind that only gets better as you age. You keep peeling back layers of depth as you get older. Which is why I was obsessed w SW as a small kid and am even more so now (Lucas SW).
I love Amanda-la's song-la complaining about Star Wars fans (and many other things). I've been singing it all week: whisper whisper mumble mumble, whisper mumble whisper mumble, mumble whisper mumble whisper, (and then the triumphant chorus) we-so-bowed doenfukwhichyo disco, we-so-bowed doenfukwhichyo disco, we-so-bowed doenfukwhichyo disco, &c. So catchy, so epic, so impactful, so important. And the video with the "dancing." No doubt if Michael Jackson was alive today he'd be calling up Amanda-la to ask for some dance-la lessons.
And then this happens…and then this happens….and then this happens….and then THIS happens! Dude, this show is so weird and feels like it’s a direct stream from a 5-year-old’s brain.
It would make sense if they had focus groups made of 5/8/12-year-old children, along with specialized marketers whose work it is to find and fix anything that those groups would find confusing. They're Disney, after all; it's their job to prey on children, no matter how much it costs.
Smilo Ren ? Yeah. It’s a lot like the helmet design that the game developer for Nier automata uses. It does make you question why the helmet was created , except for merchandising
One time two of my friends lead on a hellish long walk/hike to meet one of their friends. It was awful and I was complaining about it halfway through. I was actually reconsidering my friendship with them. Unfortunately I learnt that we took the long way there because they forgot the other route. Eventually I became really good friends with the new guy, and forgave the other two but I learnt I hate hikes.
With Ki Adi Mundi, it's clear they wanted Yoda (I saw that the writer tweeted that they couldn't get Yoda for budget reasons) but had to select a different member of the Jedi council. Sam Jackson wasn't available and probably costs more than a Yoda puppet so Ki Adi Mundi it is!
I would be remiss if I were not to point out that I literally laughed out loud at his "He didn't see the B roll I was playing" comment. Come on, that was legit brilliant.
Ah I get it now, instead of having different writers for their different properties so they have shows for kids and adults, they just have writers for kids and hope the Disney adults still don’t think for themselves!
Your theory makes sense. Also I was on walk in the park with a friend yesterday. A nature trail with bugs, trip hazards, up and down. I questioned my decision to touch grass. 🥴😂🤷🏽♂️
My initial reaction to seeing the thumbnail was something along the lines of “Okay, if you tell me Mal from Descendants was revealed as one of the Sith characters, I will laugh my ass off.” But honestly? While I’ve never sat down and watched those movies in their entireties, I know enough about that universe to say that the modern Star Wars shows and/or movies being set there would actually make *perfect* sense. The “hyperspeed ramming” from Episode 8? Accomplished with some kind of magical macguffin that was destroyed in the process, thus why they can’t do it again. Palpatine “somehow” returning? Bad guys come back all the time; maybe Hades had something to do with it. Ki-Adi-Mundi being there when he may or may not have been born yet (he only has a definitive age in the Legends timeline, I guess) and stated in Episode 1 that “the Sith have been extinct for over a millennium”? Not in the DisWars timeline, he didn’t! 😁
This is why I sub to your channel and watch your takes. I don't even have a point of reference to make a connection to modern kids/tween media. The hiking observation...chefs kiss.

Bingo. Disney doesn’t want to appeal to a modern audience; they want to create one
Knowing who this show is actually for makes Disney's agenda even more deplorable and unforgivable.
💯. I would never let a young kid watch this and absorb its messaging.
Getting rid of Disney plus was a good choice in my home.
Within 10 minutes of the first episode I noticed way too many young adult and children actors for anyone to believe these are trained Jedi
@@Toneloke-3000 1st time? All of Hollywood has been doing that for decades. Big brain move by disney: make a kids show disguised as a show for adults and while the adults are arguing with each about how terrible it is, slip in that agenda. 😳

Though 10 years old will grow, those people are already done growing.
This is it!
Headland's too busy trying to sexualize underaged girls.

Disney is turning these franchises into ONE OF THEIR SHOWS
The Disney channel show formula is growing on them like a tumor
The Disney channel show formula? Atleast the Disney channel shows are good and even great like Kim possible, Phineas and Ferb Gravity falls and live action ones like Jessie, Good luck Charlie, Wizards of Waverly place, Hannah Montana, Violetta, Soy Luna and so on. This ist Just embarrassing. One of the worst things they done (content wise) in the century
@@Simbala-bq5vy It does sound a bit like you are at the age of the target audience.
Tumor. What an excellent choice of words.
Very apropos.
How I imagine these problems get worked through at Disney:
*Studio Exec:* So, we read the script and all these deaths lack resonance and impact.

Gina wasn't fired for less. She was fired for actually relating to her fans.
As a kid I thought Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling was high quality content. My parents loathed it. This all tracks with the Acolyte.
It's very true, but also sad that they view children as dumb little consumers

The problem is that being a tween show isn't at all what KK and Lucasfilm were going for. But the writing, plot, and dialogue is so bad that it FEELS like it's intended for children under 15. This isn't by design. Don't give them that much credit.
God it’s so true. This is just aimed at small children. A bad show aimed for small children, but that’s the target.

OMG! You solved the mystery! Also, "Jedi of Waverly Place" sent me 😂😂😂😂😂
Episode 5 is like the compound interest of stupid.

Umm...doesn't that describe the Disney Channel and Disney+ to a tee? (I confess that I've _always_ hated that cringey kid-focused, over-acting crap typically churned out by the Disney Channel. Every time I tried watching them as a kid I honestly felt my intelligence was being insulted.)
[edit: and Yes, I liked my share of stupid kid content that, when I watch it again, is unbearably bad. But there was just something about how hokey and forced that Disney stuff was that disgusted me to the core.

True. I grew up on the prequels (make fun of me if you want to)
The stakes were honestly pretty high, Anikin was "the chosen one" every saber combat scene I was on the edge of my seat thinking "If Anikin dies, then what happens?" Furthermore Anikin didn't WANT to fall to the dark side, his motivation was to save his mother and Padme from death, and that spirals his mind down the path to the dark side to where he would do anything to protect the man who promised to teach him the way save them.
You're onto something here.

They only fridged those two young Jedi because they could have been able to tell Asha is not Osha on the spot.
John Lassiter, Pixar master, stated that he always followed the three act rule

If Dave Filoni was creatively involved, then Ki-Adi Mundi's inclusion is deliberate trolling.
If not, I agree, it's laziness.
Yo Darth Shreds actually kind of slaps.
Honestly, it’s good that this is mismarketed then. Better we hate it than children learn to love it.
This of the classic Bugs Bunny cartoons. They were written so cleverly that only the brightest children understood EVERYTHING that was going on.
You have to address how they defeat him. Someone that took on 6 Jedi at once...gets owned by some random bags (for children indeed)
Since TLJ I have been saying SW has been produced on an iCarly - Drake & Josh level. Not for human consumption.
This makes all the shilling from "adult" Disney fans even funnier.
4) The plot is all over the damn place
5) Sol's powers that he used in episode 1 should have ended this entire show in episode 2.
6) Stenberg is pretty, but her dance game is terrible.
7) ... there is no seventh point.
When I heard the incompetent guy turned out to be a masked badass who slaughters for 20 minutes straight, I immediately thought of Tobi/Madara Uchiha.
"Darth Freddy"? Darth Springtrap"?
Now that I'm thinking "kid's show" I keep seeing his mask as a FNAF character.
Oh god. They actually made it space wizards for children?
Great video, Greg.
@12:45 i came up with Darth Tren(Trenbolone) or Darth SARM(selective androgen receptor module) 😂
I love Amanda-la's song-la complaining about Star Wars fans (and many other things). So catchy, so epic, so impactful, so important. And the video with the "dancing." No doubt if Michael Jackson was alive today he'd be calling up Amanda-la to ask for some dance-la lessons.
Haha, truly the pinnacle of lyrical and choreographical mastery
And then this happens…and then this happens….and then this happens….and then THIS happens!
Dude, this show is so weird and feels like it’s a direct stream from a 5-year-old’s brain.
It would make sense if they had focus groups made of 5/8/12-year-old children, along with specialized marketers whose work it is to find and fix anything that those groups would find confusing.
They're Disney, after all; it's their job to prey on children, no matter how much it costs.

That helmet looks like Kylo Ren is getting ready to do the Bite of '87. I can never take it seriously.
Smilo Ren ? Yeah. It’s a lot like the helmet design that the game developer for Nier automata uses. It does make you question why the helmet was created , except for merchandising
My nine year old couldn't understand what they were saying. He said, "This isn't Star Wars". Then he watched Phantom Menace again. LOL

"Spason Mendoza". I don't have a quip to that, but I can say I am fuming that I did not come up with it myself.
They may have overspent making a children’s show.
Your videos are fun, interesting and often truly insightful. I have no bloody idea how your channel isn't way more popular!
Keep up the awesome work!
That is extremely kind of you to say, thank you! Nice comments like that make it so much easier to keep on making videos
This is why I sub to your channel and watch your takes. I don't even have a point of reference to make a connection to modern kids/tween media. The hiking observation...chefs kiss.
