The ship felt real because the interior was built in its entirety. You could actually walk up the entry ramp and down through the cargo bay to the stairs. From the stairs you could go up to the second floor which had the crew quarters in kitchen. The large open cargo bay in the gangway above it allowed for filming.
@russellspillman9056 Do you know if any of the parts still exist? A dream of mine if I even won the lottery would be to build a house that would look and feel like a Firefly, and place it in a suitable looking area of scrub.
Absolutely true! Could easily see me using one, for, well anything. Cargo, bounty hunting, smuggling you name it. I can see in in SW too, add a hyper-drive, shields, navigation computer any your good to go; maybe a couple light weapons, just in case.
This is the first video I've seen about the Firefly class. I had no idea that the class had more than one variant and that Serenity was a gen 3 model. Very nice. Thank you.
Yes love the show and the ship , every time I see Serenity I think she kind of looks like a abstract horse knowing that her Capitan is basically a space cowboy it makes me smile
Still flyin' in our hearts. Amused to see the "multiple light years" rating when the canon shows the show all taking place in the same system. Joss liked to pin down such minor technicalities even like that Trek.
A ship able to access all the planets in a system without taking years and years might well be able to cross interstellar space, though it would probably require lots more resources and space.
Given the distances in canon, and travel times shown, a sublight non-Newtonian drive would make sense. Speeds too fast for a simple fusion rocket with a mass ratio fitting the illustrated ship, too slow for a superluminal drive.
I still want a game which gives me a ship (and crew) that feels as much like home as Serenity did. Maybe one day they'll make a Firefly game that does it justice.
@goldenknight578 Hehe, I sat up thinking I was seeing things. Had to go back in slow mo. I dont have many friends or family who enjoy shows like Firefly and BSG. So it's nice to know that out there somewhere there are others who like to geek out over scifi.
I knew there was a military version. But that artwork now has me jonesing for somebody to do a spectre gunship version. Think of how much dakka you could squeeze into that cargo bay😁 Shiney indeed.
Sounds like that buffer panel is not necessary 😆 loved the show settings and overall vibes, the characters were great .. humourous but also gritty and dark when needed. and loved the ship .. it felt like home with the dinner tables and the personal rooms ...not shared Jayne 😉
Years ago I had a book about fictional spacecraft drawn or painted by famous sci fi artists. One of them was the Rovey Wanderer which looked a lot like the Freely class. Google doesn’t seem to know that it ever existed. Wish I still had the book.
Love. You can learn all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home. Oh how I love this ship!
There's a special place in hell for the executive who cancelled this series. It's not even the worst place in hell. It's just a place where you feel a constant sense of anticipation that goes unfulfilled forever.
She likes to complain that nobody gives her credit for being the one to give the series a chance in the first place. I say that just makes it worse if she can rip out its beating heart after getting it started.
I've been watching Blake's 7 on Blu-ray which is very much a spiritual predecessor to Firefly and a twisted anti-star trek, right down to the logo of the baddies being the Starfleet delta on its side. The Liberator is also the most beautiful ship in all of sci-fi.
No mention of the Lambda shuttle cameo? Its even in this video! In the pilot episode as Inara's shuttle is docking a Lambda class shuttle takes off in the background. Look at the shuttle pod pic at 3.35.
You know I never realized it had High speed FTL it always seemed to be light speed/low FTL. The show always felt like humanity found a few systems and got there the long way after the Earth died. Hmm never actually knew the lore.
Ah yes, the old favorite. not the oldest favorite, but probably the best. Always carry a spare catalyzer! It's only a "nothing part" until you don't have one!
I would love to see videos about the ships or races from the Perry Rhodan universe. The way in which technology and the relationships between races develop over the course of thousands of years of storytelling is phenomenal. And all of this is done with a level of detail that you would definitely enjoy. But with the limited release in English, that's probably wishful thinking.
Given Humanity's current technological level, the world of firefly is the most plausible future for humanity. Still a very nice ship and would take her in a heart beat, the only thing I never liked about the Firefly Class was the landing legs.
oh my Gigaroo my name as an engine too cool and i drew my OC since 1986 too but im happy to have one named after me, this is too cool no wonder this is one of my alltime fave series, but man that firefly is a bonza beauty of a ship, good down to earth ship also a mk 4 would make a good back up ship to go on long voyages and keep up appearances i wonder if you could do bestiaries on the races n possible creatures in verse of the series and movie also or even planets.
It would be interesting to look at the Serenity vs. the Millenium Falcon to which was the better smuggler's ship. The Falcon was rather heavily armed, so maybe it's not a fair comparison.
At 82 meters, it's a pretty spacious ship- but one that's a practical light cargo ship- unlike some light freighters I could mention that are obviously smuggler ships.
I absolutely adore Firefly, even if hardcore Browncoats are a little stubborn. We still want a second season 😭 Didn't you get a feature film? ... But 🥺 And two decades of sequel comics & novels?
Not sure where the range numbers are being derived from seeing as Firefly is a setting without FTL and a "range" of 400ly would mean the ship would be able to leg it (in relative terms) back and forth between blue sun and the inner planets likely in excess of tens of thousands of times (pulling that number out of my butt, I think the verse is only a few light hours wide at most, so it's likely that's a gross underestimate).
Firefly is definitely irreplaceable but as far as world building and Ship design, the only other series to come close is the expanse. They really made space feel real the inner workings of the ships and technology was really flushed out and space felt like a real character in the show just like in firefly Let's be real the shinier utopian Sci-Fi like Star Trek might as well take place on Earth. Space is an after thought in those shows Sci-Fi that actually makes you feel the g-forces or lack there of as the case may be are always way more satisfying.
I suggest you watch the series then either you go through the comics then jump to the movie.. there is a closing of some sort ... it is a wonderful series . Just saying
The buffer plate falling off made the video for me, well done.
What was that?
did you notice that on the plan of the ship the primary buffer panel was unattached and underneath the ship?
@@emergingloki Did the Primary Buffer Panel just fall off my goram ship?!
Just what does the primary buffer panel do?
Besides buffering?
And how bad is it when it falls off.

A vessel than vanished way too soon, but stays in our hearts forever! 😀
Oooo shinny 🥳🥳🥳
Beat me to it.

The Alliance cruisers had such a _weird,_ unconventional design. Would love to learn more about them.
@@GSBarlevand such a wide variety of designs as well
second that. Maybe some about The Verse in general.
That damn Primary Buffer Panel. If only there could be some talented ship's engineer who could come up with a fix for that continuing problem.
An entire video dedicated to a leaf on the wind?
Was Serenity the Leaf or the Wind?
Too soon. It'll always be too soon.
Watch how it soars.

Wow this is what Spacedock once was.
Good review of a fantastic ship and show.
The Firefly is a better freighter than any YT-series
Pretty much the same role though, both in universe and plot wise.
Yeah... Quite a bit slower, though.
Yes love the show and the ship , every time I see Serenity I think she kind of looks like a abstract horse knowing that her Capitan is basically a space cowboy it makes me smile

I've recently been thinking about rewatching Firefly, I'm taking this as the 'verse giving me a sign

The outer worlds comes closeish. There is even a line of pistols that looks like Mals freedom hammer.
Fun easter egg: you can see a Firefly in the _Battlestar Galactica_ reboot mini, VFX firm Zoic having worked on both.
I remember that. It was in the scene where Larua found out she had cancer. The view upward was a glass ceiling, so you could see it fly by.
And the TOS Enterprise in the fleet. Along with the Kodiak from Command & Conquer.

This was awesome. Even though I loved the movie more that the show, The Verse holds a special place in my heart.
Aw man, Firefly. I recently discovered that there are novels and comics, so that fills *SOME* of the void left behind.
I have the comic that bridges the show and movie, a show gone before it's time.
The YT-1300 of the Verse, minus faster than light drive. A surprise, but a welcome one. Looking forward to more Firefly content.
