Have either of you looked into the CharaChorder? They just released a device that can go in-line between keyboard and computer, and "give it chording capability" which can help one type significantly faster. Neat assembly video as well, thank you!

love how this video was put together
a kit like this would have been $400-450 just one year ago. watch how far we've gotten, thanks to QK, meletrix and the "budget enthusiast" segment. I love the fact that newcomers don't have to stick with a tofu wedge and be done with it. also this board blows the mr. suit out of the water value wise.
I predict a year from now, this board will look relatively basic considering how fast this hobby is evolving

Well to be fair, offering budget boards like this a few years ago would've been impossible too, because it would've been extremely expensive to manufacture the low volumes due to lack of demand

what an addictive typing sound from QK 80. This is very beautiful premium keyboard that costs half than other ones in the market. I own a QK75 and that has been far my best sounding keyboard.

Looks good except the LED Strip ruins the look of the board. Hopefully they'll add some custom polished/sandblasted options to highlight this part instead of the shinethrough rgb thing.
My OCD is off the charts with this LED being off in Narnia. PLEASE center it over the up arrow key! The board is perfect but this is driving me bonkers.
1:00 Wasn't the overall verdict on the band-aid-mod that it makes the stabilized keys was too mushy? How will this be with an extra spongy foam?
I did it to adjust the height. And I like to use soulmate. It seems to remove the noise. psychologically
the world is beautiful because it is varied but what is more beautiful than an ultra-quiet keyboard?
If only my 75 would ship. This looks great but I have my Mode 80 to satisfy the tkl itch. But when qk releases a 98, I’m all over it.
its awesome that the hobby is innovating, but man every time i get a new board there's another board that i want even more! i ordered the qk75 because it has a very good price for the features and i love the bottom weight but this with the little badge in the middle, and that indicator light on the right is so cool.
I got my QK75 about two weeks ago, it's a fantastic board! Hopefully yours arrives soon.
do you know if the owlabs stabs teflon sticker is the same as a shim? If i have a 1.2mm pcb and used these owlab stabs, do these teflon things act as shims?
no they serve as acoustic dampeners to prevent the stab sliders from slamming on the pcb surface and producing undesired additional sound.
@@foggytypes o right so I would still need shims to place on top of this sticker then screw the stabs on top.
@@springpocket6941 pesonally I apply the shims on the underside of the pcb. this way I minimize any potential stab interference.

Any chance you can do a sound test without the PE foam between the switches and PCB? Every board with PE foam sounds the exact same, so it's hard to gauge the true sound of the board.
Don’t worry, every other reviewers and streamers will build it without PE foam. Just wait a little

I'm interested in seeing a configuration of this amazing keyboard going for clack, essentially the exact opposite of this video's sound profile!
clack works insanely well on the qk60 with taping the flex cuts and using sth like mx blacks on alu, so i dont see why it wouldnt work here
removing foam, go with fr4 or alu, clack switches and voila
Excellent video mate. QK80 looks pretty beautiful. Those damn flex cuts need to go or QK needs to provide an optional non-flex cut pcb for people who want a fuller sound profile without foam.

Edit: Ok I have gotten out of the initial hype (Idk what happened to my brain) but I do think Zoom TKL is still competitive against the QK80 (not in terms of design)
- Better Multi layout support (Split Left / right shift, Split Space Bar, ISO support, Split Backspace) (Something that QK80 lacks for the most part, even the Solder PCB does not support split right shift and split spacebar)
- Has much more wider range of Plate options including the spicy carbon fibre option
- Uses AI03 unified Daughterboard for easy replacement down the road
Cons: No WKL / 7U support for R1, R2 PCB and top will support these.
nah they both are awesome keyboards. I agree this looks more elegant (just personal preference actually) but I'm sure you'll be super happy with the zoom too.
@@foggytypes Yeap no doubt, they are both strong in their own ways and stand out in their own ways too.I am still excited with trying out carbon fibre plate on the zoomtkl, should be arriving within 2 weeks or so.
Was just amazed at the seemingly endless boundaries of budget kits in recent years, they just keep getting better. With that said, it definitely looks the part of something within the same class as my Frog TKL, which is really commendable
