- On this day in 1981, ITN's cameras travelled to Romsey to join hundreds of well-wishers in seeing the newly-wedded Prince and Princess of Wales off on their honeymoon. Following the wedding ceremony on Wednesday 29 July, Prince Charles and Princess Diana had spent three very private days at Broadlands near Romsey (where Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip had also spent their wedding night). On 1 August, Charles and Diana departed for Southampton Airport along a route lined with members of the public. ITN's Brent Sadler spoke to crowds waiting at the gates of Broadlands and provided live commentary as the couple left, while Alastair Stewart was on the tarmac at Southampton to give coverage as Charles and Diana boarded their flight to Gibraltar.

My goodness me, this video makes me so much nostalgic, the way journalists were talking and the audience answering their questions in a so well-mannered way.
I wonder where all these years went, time flies so rapidly…
Lady Diana was an astonishing human being.
Loved Prince Charles too.

Wonderfull
Oh....al minuto 50 il ragazzino che fa 👍 assomiglia un po' al principe William all'età di 14 anni .. wow 😮
Yep
At least they got the name of the airport right, well, some of the time!
What a traversty of justice to allow "that women" to rise to where she has landed publicly today...After all the turmoil and grief she created...
Camilla is a joke
@@worldtraveler721 no, she's the queen
@@glen7318 queen mistress
That women?? What dies that mean?
Camilla was on the honeymoon, in Charles's heart. Diana knew it. There was no fairy tale 😢
Yeah yeah yawn yawn
Srop blaming everything on Charles - it was a big mismatch from BOTH sides... Even without Camilla... that marriage would not have survived...
@@bjoernrietz6401 I think there would have been a big difference if Camilla wasn't there. She was the reason why their marriage went downhill because Charles was already in love with her. Maybe if she wasn't there Charles would've loved Diana instead. But also, the way Charles treated Diana was really not good...
IMO she had hope she could win Charle’s ❤ over time and Charle’s had hope too but sadly Diana’s immaturity and emotional issues were more than he could handle. Once her popularity trumped his, it alienated him even more.
Camila adored APB but he had affair after affair and Charles was always around doting on her. She was the mother figure he’d never had, boosted his confidence and respected his legacy. They should have been permitted to marry to begin with and Diana might still be alive. The best thing that came out of their failed marriage was that William was permitted to marry for love, understood all the challenges for the woman who’d be his wife and did everything to ensure Kate knew what she was signing on for. He clearly knocked it out of the park! Catherine is the jewel in the Crown but it took almost a decade for people to notice.
@@bjoernrietz6401- Amen. God Bless Diana- she deserved better than being sacrificed by her family.
