More like they don't want you to realize it's a real active shooter when it actually happens so you think it's a drill
I've had that happen with all sorts of drills. The ones with alarms would cause me to yelp(really loudly) because I have sensitive ears. I've nearly stabbed myself a few times because of going to cover my ears and having a pencil in my hand when it goes.
@@dffgacha7452 yeah I’m also sensitive to loud noises and those fire drills and tornado drills are always so loud and startling which makes sense if it’s the real things but there’s no reason to not tell us there’s an upcoming drill, as well as the fact that because they didn’t warn us all the students would just assume it’s a drill and not take anything seriously so it’s a lose lose situation, they schools should just tell us if there is a drill so we know when to take something seriously or when to actually fear for our lives.

That is if you're lucky enough to get a drill or info after that thats what it was. At my high school, we had a freshman bring his dads gun to school to shoot everyone he could. Thankfully that didn't happen and our resource officer got the intell that he had it in his bag so he could remove it from his person, but did we even get informed of this? Nope. They didn't even lock down our school, we only found out from people in class with him that he had a gun in the first place.
My question is, why did they send in the National Guard? Surely our thoughts and prayers should have been enough to save them!

That almost was the case ... they first denied the request for the national guard to step in..then the defense finally approved and they stepped in.

@@sabrinamurphy4009, yes yes it is. I’ve been taught this since Elementary School. Active Shooter drills are more common then Bad Weather drills and as common/a little more common the fire drills. This is the environment adults have given us to work with. Also your phone must also be on silent so it doesn’t buzz and alert the intruder outside.
I am so sorry for the grownups, no person should go through such traumatic experience, let alone children.

@Remmy 1406 Actually, in an emergency situation like that, using text is best. Phone lines can soon be overloaded, but the text operates on a different system. (Learned this in a home invasion survival class.)

Actually, Secret Service already evacuated the building along with their designated protectees. Everyone else had to depend on the woefully unprepared Capitol Police.

I remember a foreign exchange student was in my math class (I went to an all girls private school btw) and we had our practice lockdown and she was SOOO confused. I was the closest one to her so the teacher asked me to explain what was happening and i tried to without saying gun bc I didn’t want to scare her even more. @@Marysajama that's one thing that shocks me (if thats the right word). When I learnt abt Sandy Hook, I thought "well, this is it." But nothing happened, then Parkland and the movement that awful event sparked also made think "well, maybe now?" but everything stayed the same. I really feel for young people in the US, no kid should get used to get their life threatened or even consider dyeing while attending school.
@Lightifer You should all look into Australia and Switzerlands gun policies. Australia removed all guns after the first mass shooting 20+ years ago. And Switzerland has more guns per capita than US, BUT no mass shootings thanks to regulations and social structures.

I remember once in middle school there was a drill because of some wackos who got on school campus... My BFF and I had gone to the bathroom to just meet up and talk. Then the announcement was done for lock down and that it was not a drill. So she and I hid inside empty lockers because it was closer than going back to the classroom. I remember sucking my stomach in and bending in ways I didn’t know I could so I could close the locker and not be a target. I was so scared.

Oof. Glad you guys got to the lockers in time. There was once we were let out early, some of us hangout at the front of the school until they say we can leave. Suddenly the lockdown drill announcement went off, the staff immediately opens the door to let us back in and go straight to the office to hide in the textbook room. Apparently it was just a paintball gun that went off.

@Helen Pauls tbh the problem is they don't offer hunter safety classes in school any more and we're just selling guns to people who have no clue how to use them or take care of them I got my first gun at the age of 8 it was a 410 shot gun and I was taking gun safety classes at 7 so it's not the fact of us carrying them it's the fact of education about guns if you ask me

I think it’s ironic, that the same politicians, who could do something to help children go to school safely, now had a „mild version“ of the horrors way too many US pupils had to go through.
From an outside view, it seems that the USA are the only developed country, that is not able to keep their children safe in schools. All other (developed) countries can count their mass shootings (especially in schools) per decade, not year.

I have faith in our youth too. I've been pleasantly surprised from the action of our conscious youth in 2020.
The only generations i have faith in is millennials and genz.
When I was in 3rd grade, my teacher told my class that she would give her life to protect us if a shooter ever got into the building. While I still think that's amazingly selfless, it's crazy that I was having that conversation as an 8 year old child.
Now they know what it feels like first hand how we felt.

Me and my friends made a escape plan on 20 min into our 9th grade open house there was no "wow high school is so big" or "how am I gonna find my class" just "I heard that the english teachers the head of year book she has a room inside her room where she puts the cameras that would be a good place if we'er on the first floor right?". Her response was "Yeah, and if we'er on the 2nd floor we can jump out the bathroom window it might be a tough fall but it's better then death". Private schools went through drills like this too. The moment you hear “Sister Aloysius is visiting”, you knew to push the teacher’s desk against the door and hide under yours. What was scarier was that at the time I started attending the school, that code was actually used outside of a drill so I was always nervous that it could happen again.
My private school was for a disliked religion, so it got a few bomb threats, an active shooter, and hate symbols plastered outside.

I vividly remember in the 2nd grade a armed shooter was on my schools’ premises. We had lockdown drills before, so we all believed it was a drill. 5 hours. We were in there for 5 hours. Imagine. About 30 7-year-olds hiding under there desks, scared for their lives, for 5 hours. That, would have been my last day on earth. Me and my classmates would have died at the ripe old age of 7. Let that sink in.
They forgot “don’t close your blinds, if people are outside they will see the movement” “use the giant hardcover science textbooks to block your chest/upper abdomen , they can stop bullets from hitting you” and really just everything that goes down if you’re outdoors or in the bathroom. And, of course, you can always talk to your teachers or guidance counselor if you have any further questions

It took us five seconds longer than it should have to realize it was the drumline. When American high schoolers hear a boom of noise in their hallways, the first thing that comes to mind certainly isn’t football games and triumphant music...

I went to school the day after and turns out we where gonna do a run hide fight drill but they postponed it cause of all the stuff in the capital. All my classes had a good laugh about that.
Describe to me these drills. Columbine happened my last year of high school and they were scrambling to figure out what to do.
@@AlexiasShado usually during all of our periods that day they come over the intercom and tell us where the intruder is and we have to decide what we would do. Run away hide in the room or fight them. Sometimes this involves barricading yourself and hiding in you room while an administrator bangs on the door and run around between the classrooms. It’s second nature now as I Highschooler but was absolutely terrifying throughout elementary and middle school and still causes some anxiety

What's even scarier is students are taught the 3 rules of 1) run 2) hide and 3) fight. And have a designated person to have out scissors.
This is so sad. No kid should feel unsafe during school period!
The sad thing is as a student who was in a school with multiple threats after awhile you aren't scared you just are angry
