I really love this idea, the only problem is, that the distance between the hammers and the metal pieces is too big, if the neutral position of the servos would be lower (~1 cm above), the glockenspiel would be able to play faster and the servo noise would be much less too.
I used to work on theater and cinema pipe organs. Some of them had glockenspiels that used electro magnets to operate the hammers. They also had drums, violins, tambourines etc. All created way back in the previous century. So it was nice to see this.
Your comment is exactly the reason I was looking for videos like this. I have a hobby project in mind for a glockenspiel via keyboard. Thanks for sharing your experience!
i think he removed the colors cause the colors adds damping to the noise making it quiter, when you remove the color it leaves just the metal which makes a much more sharp and loud noise
@@dankishdoodlez5838 ...it's a Christian song "Jesus loves me, yes I know". It's just one of those songs that has the ability to cheer me up when life starts throwing punches.
Leon, that's fantastic! Great project, great video! Did you have to tweak the movement of each servo arm speed/position so they hit all notes consistently?
to make it even more better... use the tubes from wind chimes and make a tubular bells instrument... that way partially deaf people can hear it work... all I heard was the first 2 metal tabs... the others were the servos working...
So the final version is driven by stepper motors? I think solenoids would fit better. And the distance between the plate and the hammer is way too big. Just my opinion.
Электромагниты бы тут были прям идеальны. Подвешивание молоточков на пружинах, а магнит что б тянул для удара. Быстродействие будет выше, чёткость удара больше.
Buddy! It looks good, of course, but wouldn't it be better to make the drive of impact hammers on electromagnets? Then it would be possible to control the force and speed of the impact, as well as the aftertouch.
The original idea with one arm was more interesting. You could have upgraded to two arms. This one is very industrial. Could have done without servo this way, using some simple solenoid.
Hi Leon, I really like your setup, in fact I would like to make my own version and wanted to ask you if I would be able to download your app? I tried looking for it on the 'Playstore' but could not find it. Would it be possible for me to download it as well? Thank You,
Neither do I. I made an apk file with the visual studio but when I try to install it I got a messge like 'error when analising the apk'. did anybody succed and can help us?
@@Djaevu1 I've managed to get the apk, but I'm afraid it only works on Android 8 and I haven't got that version. If you want I can pass you the apk so you can try. Just send me your email.
Too much pressure on the servo gearing, in my opinion. You should add a counterweight, in order for it to be more reliable. Otherwise servo motors will die pretty quickly
I love how the servo comes to life and starts hitting everything :D lol
apparently, the spirit of skynet lives on every circuit board.
I think there was a receiver
No they used austrino code
Imagine using this as an alarm
Then I will get back to sleep
Or put it in a clock tower you build outside. To play a tune four times a day. Just make sure it's insured for the sake of the neighbors! :D
Or a doorbell
They all just bang on it spiratically like it's fucking running in the 90's
Then I am never gonna wake up 😂

Oh thank God for that.
Wow... now the possibility to play back midi files added and it would be a gazillion of possibilities ...
easy to implement.
