It’s of trial and error as each lens can behave differently. Ideally though you want to find an angle to light from that doesn’t catch a reflection or is minimal.
I am a cast member for our local theater company. We are having headshots taken next week. My body style is plush (curvy) 72 years old and sporting my silver hair. I have no idea what to wear. They have asked us not to wear black or white ( which I look good in). I look good for my age with minimal wrinkles and lines. My eyes are blue/green. Help!
What particular colors and tops do you suggest to wear? A black tank top? A black t-shirt? Do you suggest a natural no make up look or minimum make up?
Blue and black are always pretty good bets. It can depend on your skin tone as well. Makeup is generally recommended as it really adds a nice polish to the look. And my makeup artists do a great job of making it look like you don't have a bunch of makeup on.
Hey Scott, I do headshots ALL THE TIME. Good to know I'm actually doing what you recommend, even before watching your video. Good confirmation. Will you make a video on how to reduce the wrinkles or just look brilliant with lighting? I am often outside too when I make my videos in many different locations. Thanks Welcome to check out my channel too, so you can give feedback on my headshot. Love to learn! Rachel
Did I miss anything? What questions do you have about wardrobe for your photoshoot?
Finally a UA-cam video that doesn't try to sell me something, just sharing knowledge. Kind of refreshing!
I appreciate that!
Looking good and landing jobs, thanks for the helpful advice! My grandkids will be so impressed with my new headshots.
I'm glad you broke down colors and patterns, which I feel like are super important to talk about!
Glad you found that helpful.
Thanks for the awesome tips. Just had a headshot done last week and picking my top was a fun exercise.
YOUR TIPS are the best! thanks so much for sharing your genius Scott
My pleasure!
Great points Scott! I'm try to stick to solid colours that generally compliment me. It is tempting to go shopping when new headshots are due!
Glad you enjoyed the video. It's very tempting to go shopping, but usually not necessary.
Great tips! I need a new headshot!
Thank you. Great info, great style.
Thanks for the great tips, as always!
I need a new headshot. These are good recommendations that I can think about. :)
Let me know if other questions come to mind. I've got a list of topics for future videos, but can always use more!
What about earrings? Should they be limited to studs and pearls to not distract or are drops ok?
I usually recommend simple studs or pearls. Big earrings can be distracting. Only exception would be if the look is part of your brand.
What do you do to reduce glasses glare?

These videos are amazing. Although I would prefer a demo playing in the background at the same time, with your voice over.
Not me. Voice is all we need without the often-distracting music.

I would try a solid blue or green then. Good luck!
Great advice, thanks!

@@scottlawrencephoto Thank you so much for responding back, your help, your time, and information.
What is a great lens for headshot photos? I have a Nikon 7200 camera. What color would you do for background?
Something in the 50 to 85 mm range should be good. Or 70-300.
Thank you 😊
I regret my first headshot so much😂
I looked back at it and was like 😖
Sorry to hear that, I'm sure your next session will be better!
