The Troll movie was great.
This was a super awesome video! my newest world building project is a kaiju world! I’m now adding a Norwegian troll.
@Joshua 1992 absolutely! They come from Norse and Scandinavian mythology! Same mythology as Thor and Loki.
Proboscis monkeys are probably the closest thing we will get to a troll
From a Norse myth perspective this troll is most likely Bergakungen the Mountain King who was the king of the trolls, he much like a lot of trolls was killed by Thor, in fact in myth trolls where scared of the sound of thunder cause they knew who comes with the thunder
Yes, but trolls were actually giants, or anunaki. Some of the Giants were so filthy and ugly that they appear like trolls. But being turned to stone due to day light is a myth, they were more nocturnal creatures.
These things really did exist before the flood, the smaller ones came after the flood.

Trolls and giants are two different Things and Trolls are not in Norse mythology
The Giants of Norse Mythology were actually called Jötnar and not all of them were massive in size.
people believe trolls are actually Neanderthals
Really enjoyed the troll movie my favorite aspect of the movie is how the troll was portrayed it kinda reminded me of Kong in terms of a misunderstood animal that is lonely and looking for what happened to his kind at least that's what I got from the troll.
The Troll being able to disguise itself as a mountainous area reminds me of Methuselah, which is literally a living mountain! I could imagine the Troll disguising itself on a huge mountain, not knowing he’s latched himself onto the back of Methuselah.

There are a a lot of similarities between the troll and Kong . They do kinda resemble each other . Both only attack when provoked and are kind to children . Both are the ''last'' of their kind and both long for family . If the Troll lived in the Monsterverse , he and Kong would probably over time become pals or at least allies .

In some ways, I felt it made the Troll a wee bit out of character. Unlike Kong, who thrived on an island and was worshipped by a native tribe, the Troll was presecuted and hunted. He spent hundreds of years locked in a mountain. If I was the Troll, I'd be pretty cranky and not really feel guilty about trampling those that wronged me.
It was nice that he saved the kid from the chopper. But at the same time, I question why he would.
I loved how the troll understood the concept of family and that was his 1st priority
I got a feeling the Troll will follow the traditional trend of the Godzilla and Gamera movies. In their first films, it was those monsters alone against humans, but in the following sequels, Godzilla and Gamera were pitched against other gigantic monsters, giving them an anti-hero role. So I believe in the next Troll sequel, we’ll see the Troll fight against another giant monster, another mythological Norse creature or from another region.

I really enjoyed the new troll movie on Netflix I'm a HUGE monster fan and I didn't even know about it until dangerville mentioned something about it thank you dangerville I love how it has a Godzilla and King Kong vibe to it I love the story you definitely have to watch it and it's foreign language to feel the emotion of the people in a situation like that definitely a good addition to the world of kaiju's I loved it I want more
Hope this movie gets a sequel. Norway has their own Godzilla and I wanna see more of him. I mean if Gorgo can make a comeback why not troll
It is a pretty good film. It kept pretty focused, didn't get too ambitious. Effects were excellent. The humans actually drove the story and were not unwelcome. Even the English dub was good (though I do recommend the original Norwegian). Lots of references and easter eggs for fans of monster movies. And of course the troll was the real star.
If my knowledge of Spiderwick Chronicles is anything to go by, Trolls are descendants of Giants which explains why some Trolls get as big as fricking mountains.
Trolls and Jotnar are actually the same thing in Norse Mythology. There is no clear difference between the two.

I heard the movie was inspired by Kong: Skull Island from 2017. The Troll himself kinda resembles Kong with the canine like teeth and body build hell they even make a joke about it in the movie XD!
Fun Fact: Some of the soldier's screams you hear after Tidemann calls Captain Holm on his mobile are sound effects from Command & Conquer (1995)

SPOILER: My theory is that the troll in the movie was actually the son that the humans used to lure the Troll King into a trap. He's been trapped and growing for the last thousand years. I think that what we see at the end of the movie is the actual king awakening.
If they did a sequel they should come up with a backstory to how new trolls are "made". Instead of one troll just repeating the same idea of fighting they could have the actual King having created more children which complicates everything in terms of just having the military come in and shoot bombs.
Maybe they can resolve the situation after some tense confrontations more like the scientist tried at the end and get them to go back to their home where the humans would leave them alone.
now you guys should go back and look at Trollhunter from 2010, another norwegian troll film that is a much different take with the “found footage” style and a smaller scale. It is less of a kaiju film but still a really fun watch and some great troll lore building
Funny thing is, many people think that Norwegians or Europeans in general, are finally getting into the Kaiju realm of movies. But this movie isn’t the first “Kaiju” film from Europe. There was another a few years ago called “Troll Hunter”, which is another Norwegian film among a few others (and actually pretty good, if I may add). That said, it also had a good story to it and was in a “documentary” style film and supposedly based on true events. I actually enjoyed this movie as well, although it was pretty sad in some parts, especially in the end. Troll just wanted to be left alone and main character actually tried to lure him away, but it was too little too late.

The troll wasn’t the villain in this film. Humans were. My heart broke a lil upon its death. I was wanting the Troll to live and recover its kingdom/palace

I’ll admit, didn’t quite know what to expect with this movie, like a lot of Netflix originals, but was pleasantly surprised with a fun film. My favorite part has to be VFX on the Troll itself. Not sure what the budget was, US dollar wise, but just the texture work on it alone and when he interacts with the environment is top notch, and you can tell care was put into it. If anyone is more interested in Norway and trolls cause of this film, there’s a found footage movie called Troll Hunter that covers more of the lore and shows a a variety of trolls. One of my favorite of that genre, and only one of 2 movies from the found footage perspective showcasing giant monsters, along with Cloverfield.

This movie felt like an almost scene by scene and character copy of the US Godzilla 98 movie.

I know too much information can ruin a good story but I really wish they could have gotten a little further into if this is an actual magic being or some kind of natural force that grows the rock around it's spirit. It would make a big difference in understanding why missiles wouldn't hurt it because if it's just rock then you obviously can break it into a thousand pieces with a big enough bomb.
But if there's some kind of magic behind it that we don't understand, that can explain a lot. And what's with the bells???
Trolls or jotners which is the original name are pre-Christian mythological figures. The saga describes their appearance. After we became Christians, these pre-Christian figures continued to "live on" in our fairytale. With a little twist..they can't stand Christianity. The sound of church bells makes them shrink, become powerless.

So the movie was good, to an extent. While watching you could not think that it took many, but many scenes from other kaiju movies. Jurassic Park, so much from Kong Skull Island, Godzilla both Legendary and 98. Not a bad thing but..not too original either. A descent attempt on the genre but wanted a bit more.

I live in norway and there is pretty much good stuff in this movie and in norway i would definitly recommend traveling to norway
One other thing this also reminded me of my favorite episode of the 60s LOST IN SPACE titled THERE WERE GIANTS IN THE EARTH no CGI in those days how ever the one eyed giant looked great for a man in a suit best monster on the TV show, scared me when it was after John Robinson and Major West who were tripped in a cave and when it attacked the Robinsons with huge boulders. 📽📽📽🎬🎬🎬📽📽📽📽📽
i have a fetish for troll mythology at this point and this movie was like an early Christmas present. it reminded me a lot of the Jotnar from troll hunter which is my favorite found footage film of all time.
