Thanks! At the far end of the pit there is a sort of funnel which the trash is pushed into, and it falls into open top transfer trucks which access the site through a tunnel. After they're loaded, the trash is then sent to the landfill. Its quite a bit of fun to see it in person. If you ever get the chance to do the same, I'd encourage it.

Almost looks like an indoor landfill with the CAT running over all that garbage, kind of like a play area for a big toy haha Love the tailgate design on those satellite trucks in the beginning, two different models as well, reckon the Heil one is pretty sick with how the bottom half sort of folds inwards at the bottom. Even managed to get a street sweeper unloading a heap of dirt, didn't look like there was a hint of garbage or leaves in there. No doubt this is the best unloading POV you can get, right from behind and up high. Definitely would love to do something like this at a transfer station watching the trucks roll in one after the other.

Having a cousin who worked as a garbage truck driver I always thought the back opened up by pushing up and out 90 degrees. Never knew that they could go straight up.
Only those smaller model trucks have a vertically opening door. Most swing open like you assumed. The reason for the vertical opening door is so that the little trucks, if needed, can actually unload into the back of a larger rear loading garbage truck instead of driving all the way to a dump and back. Its pretty clever really.

Once it’s all sorted they’ll end up with bales of different products, plastic bottle bales, tin cans, etc..this video is specifically garbage going into the pit which then goes to landfill
