  • Roman Empire Stop #3 takes us to Iraq, ancient Mesopotamia! From Kuwait to Basra we explore the streets and the corniche and make some friends along the way! The Romans were never in Basra per se, in fact the city wasn't even established until 636 CE, so we will get to the Roman bits further north in Provincia Mesopotamia :)
First impressions of Iraq were amazing, and my nerves about the security situation calmed with every hour of being in the country and with every friendly and curious local I met.
I did not record the overland border crossing as I was semi-crapping myself but it was actually easy. If leaving Kuwait by land like I did, through, you will need this additional green slip of paper acquired from the Ports Management building in Kuwait City near the airport. Easy to get and most people spoke English but its opening hours are a bitch (whatever they even are).

    Welcome to basra
Next time text a local guy in basra so he can show you the rest of the city , you really toured like 10% of it . ( you can find them on google maps and they be more then happy to show you around for free )
And The Hotels you can find cheap 4 star hotels for like 70$ but u gotta ask the locals because they are not on any website on the internet lol
I know in other places asking the locals might be difficult but in iraq it’s way deferent !
They will be smiling from ear to ear just to help out a tourist because the country and the locals hasn’t seen any tourists from 1980 since the iran war ..

Thank you! I was actually with a friend from Basra who showed me a lot but I didn’t record all of it as I was enjoying time with them, but it was great to see and eat lots of the food! The locals are indeed incredible in the whole country!
