    Pure class! I am Irish and love proper country music from the fantastic American singers of 1950s-1980s. There IS no country music now. Artists like Faron Young will never be forgotten and their likes may never be seen or heard again. THANK GOD we still have recordings of these wonderful people.

    This is a perfect example of a sound that has been lacking in country music for a long time. Faron Young = a class act. Thanks for posting this.

    This was a time when there was NOT a need for machines to help blend the voices. This is an example that nothing was used to make Faron's voice sound better. He carried this song!!!

    Long live "The Sheriff" Faron Young!!! I remember hearing this awesome performer on the radio growing up & on the Osborne Brothers & Jimmy Dean Shows growing up. He's one of the greatest country performers ever. He was as big as George Jones in his time, before the Outlaw movement came along.

    I really miss those days when the Grand Ole Opry had shows like this (That Good Ole Nashville Music 1965-1978) and people really loved to see these shows. And when you would look at the band, you would see a ShoBud, twin fiddles, a string bass, a piano, etc. These days at the Grand Ole Opry, you would see those wannabees dressed up like bikers and hobos that can't sing country.

    Everybody posting here is RIGHT ON! Faron - one of the greatest. And that band! Tommy Jackson & Red Hayes on fiddles; Hal Rugg on steel; the great Spider Wilson on gtr (and band leader an' smilin' ), Jerry Whitehurst on piano & Billy Linneman on bass(?). Anyway - lovin' it BIG TIME!

    I'll take Faron Young singing in goofy 70's attire over any modern hat acts.
    Tommy Jackson was the greatest fiddler of his time.

    There is a remarkable difference between the facial expressions of the musicians in this video forty years ago and today's often very glum-looking players. Everyone in the band is enjoying himself and shows it. The steel player is concentrating of course, but most excellent steel players do.
    Tim.

    Faron was my favorite country singer back in the '60's, when I was coming of age. Love a lot of the singers and songs nowadays, but personally think those years long gone had some of the best singers.

  • @starboydc
    @starboydc 13 років тому +1

    Yes, guitar player & band leader is the great Jimmy "Spider" Wilson, who quit the Opry house band some years ago after being treated badly - Spider and Howard Rhoton: awesome "twin guitar" men with Little Jimmy Dickens' band (inc. Buddy Emmons on steel) back in the 50's. Yeah, the band is sharing some kinda joke with Faron or else laughing cause maybe Faron's had a couple of drinks(!), although he certainly doesn't seem to show it here. Once again, great clip w/ Faron & great musicians.

    @b0blee Yeah he certainly does play some fabulous licks. Here in the UK in the 60s 70s we knew you guys over the Atlantic had country music on TV and radio but I didnt realise until youtube came along just HOW much you had, and Im even more envious now than I was.
    How come the copyright owners dont put these videos out on DVD ? they must surely make money on them from all of us outside the US who want to buy it but never saw it on TV. FRUSTRATING! its out there but we cant buy it.

    Looking at these performers reminds me of how much respect they had for their listeners. They dressed up, now days they tend to dress like homeless people.

    @8h6ed i would really like to know what the inside joke was that night between faron and his band.if you watch close,they can all barely keep from bursting out into laughter...starting with his guitar player and continuing right through all of them....including faron!
