What I love is I can use it on my head for work, and then take it off and clip it in my pocket when. It at work for an EDC light. That’s super cool in my opinion.
I use it for helicopter flying at night and the red light feature not being mixed with white light is super important. Also the fact that you can rotate it down to the ideal position makes this perfect. Light weight, rechargeable,... - the perfect aviation headlamp in my opinion.
My current go-to headlamp is the Sofirn HS10, which I like, but the way it attaches to the headband is really annoying. Between the much more elegant headband solution on this and the addition of the red light, I might consider getting this or the HM51R as an upgrade.
For those interested in this HM50R V2.0 you might find the HM51R Ruby V2.0 even better. Warmer light, more red modes, "firefly" mode, constant brightness regulation on some settings and a magnet. If 18350 it would have been almost perfect... Unfortunately I will have to import it...
@@cheule How many levels will work with the CR123A? It appeared you only showed one. Is that it? The Fenix webpage you linked suggested it might only run on Low, but is not clear about it. Even if so 30 lumens is great to have in an emergency or after long term storage. Thanks for the review!
Nice review! You probably wont reply after a year but is it still worth buying or should I buy another one that is a flashlight and a headband (under 100€)
I have this light and I was a bit dissappointed. The high mode (400 lumen) stays on for 15mins and then drops down to 120 lumen for the rest of 3 hours. So the stated lumen output is correct and 3 hour runtime also, but those will not happen at the same time. Even with the most efficient leds you get only 150 lumens/W and it means that the rated values are not possible in theory. 400 lumens would mean 2,6W led power and with 700mAh battery you have about 2,6WAh of energy so in theory 1 hour runtime is possible - not 3 hours.
This is a really important point and when checking out 1lumen's review I noticed that as well. If you want the light to stay at high, you have to select Turbo and then it drops to 200 after 5 minutes and then zigzags slowly between 300 and 400 for an hour before dying. Even the medium drops to 41 lumens after just half an hour. I keep coming back to this light from time to time because it's small but the runtime is too short and I'm looking at NiteCore UT32 as a result. Not as nice but has the runtime.
Yes, this is what I learned recently while searching for my light. The stupid FL1 Standard only requires 10% of the brightness for the run-time. What I do is to switch to a higher mode when the light becomes too dim. BTW, I just tested a Walmart Kodiak Kub and it ran for 3 hours on medium (250) on a Coast 650mAh. One more hour than claimed, never believable for something from Walmart and for 20 bucks. At first it was warm, then cooled down for the most period. I'll get this Fenix as well for the 90 angle.
KoOnce I bought a headlamp with a power of 320lm and in the technical data it was written that it was supposed to work for 5.5 hours ... the problem is that the power source is a 1200mAh battery🤣. In practice, the power fell in 15 minutes to 70 lm and that's how she got these 5.5 hours 🤣.
How far will the light rotate with that clip to mount system? It looked limited at around the 9:50 minute mark in your video. Thanks for the video. I am also curious as to whether the Olight Perun Mini will mount on the headband and the Fenix clip to the Perun mini tube. An interesting system, but overall I like the Olight Perun 2 Mini system better and watched your video on it. I also like the Perun Mini and Perun 2 Mini in neutral white. Although 30 lumens is a very useful level, I love a multi-day 2 lumen moonlight mode as it is enough to read by and do a lot of tasks...although I admit I cranked it up to high to finish mowing the lawn on the last day of 2022..
No red light on the HS10, and a bunch of goofy strobe, SOS, and Beacon modes. Well, goofy and useless for my usage, others may want those modes, so I shouldn't judge ;-) I think the UI on the HM50R is nice and straightforward, which is what I want from a flashlight.
Totally normal. Turbo draws so many amps that when the battery is partially charged, turbo will be disabled. This is true of a lot of flashlights, even huge ones like the AceBeam X75.
@@cheule thank you. If you're going to actually take it apart, just be careful while removing the press fit bezel. It takes a good amount of force while manipulating the knife or razor blade.

Great review, no wasted, unnecessary chatter in the review; straight, to the point!
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I was concerned I didn’t have enough “fluff” for some.
Brilliant review, thank you!
FYI: The instructions state, "High mode can't be entered when using the CR123A battery"
Thanks for really going over the light modes. I think that UI is perfect my uses.
Thanks for the amazing review, i just bought one and it has everything i was looking for, super happy. Your guidance truly helped.
bro I never saw such a technical review. Thumbs up man
Thank you! Subscribe for more of course, I’m releasing content all the time.
You did a great job with this review- thank you for your time and expertise- I learned a lot!
The runtime is very good i think, nice smal EDC better than most other in my opinion

More modes, yes. But it is a limited edition. And the runtime is considerable shorter.
Excellent. Thank you. 🙏🏼
Excellent review, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
U should have shown how bright the red is. Anyway I prefer plastic and not usb-c because I like ultralight and small. Every gram counts!
Hi, what do you think against the petzl actik core 600. Thanks
This review is top quality. Thanks for your time. Subbed (and bought the headlamp). It is made in my country Czechia cheers
Thank you so much for your subscription!
Another great review!
thanks for the tip with the CR123 !
You’re welcomed!

@@donaldstrader7241 I have the same question, the website says it only works on low and mid mode, not sure if red light modes works with a cr123

Comfy Fenix headband 😊
Well said!

That is definitely the trade off for a small small batter like the HM50R has (16340).

good review, thanks
What's with the medium high..medium low . Confusing.

I don't understand why they are not using a simple cap with oring to cover the USB. These rubber lids are way fragile and they open easily.

I’m on the road, I’ll try to remember when I’m back home in a few days to test this out.
It’s good for outdoor activities. But not low enough for indoor/close up.
I’ve been using it on low inside and find it a good level. Only issue is it’s green at low levels, but I love the lightweight headlamp.
Take a look at the HM51R RUBY V2.0
I'd prefer a 18350, a tad thicker and heavier but the power gain outweighs (!) that. Nice lamp though.
HM06R in the thumbnail, HM04R in the description but HM50 mentioned in the video?
It's HM50R, sorry for the typo! One man show here. Thanks for the heads up.
I would like to see a head to head of this vs Sofirn HS10

What happens if you try to charge with a cr123 installed?
Do not attempt that. Charging a non-rechargeable battery can result in battery rupture.
Just got the lamp. Is it normal that the turbo mode only works with almost full battery? With Battery around 50 % there is no turbo mode :/
Totally normal. Turbo draws so many amps that when the battery is partially charged, turbo will be disabled. This is true of a lot of flashlights, even huge ones like the AceBeam X75.
@@cheule thanks a lot :)
im buying it. thx
Sadly its shining into my nose. I have to wear it as a necklace.
I was remotely thinking of geting one of these and trying to replace a 519a on it, but not sure of how difficult it is. Maybe someone could check 😇
I’ll look into it. Give me a bit
@@cheule thank you. If you're going to actually take it apart, just be careful while removing the press fit bezel. It takes a good amount of force while manipulating the knife or razor blade.
The bezel looks to be pressed and glued. Might not be easy.
@@cheule just like I expected. It required a huge amount of force to remove the pressed bezel from my E28R.
No way you get 400 lumens for 3h with a 700mAh battery.
