Tony wanted to keep him last year but it was a conflict interest between him and Gene who wanted to promote Custer because his dad is an important part of the haas company. Same reason DiBenedetto was rumoured to lose his ride to Cindric. Logano spent 4 years at Gibbs being a P18-20 runner. Is Suárez a championship caliber driver? Probably not, but he's consistent in a very very underfunded team like Gaunt and keeps the car out of trouble, which is perfect for any team, his only 2 DNFs were at Daytona and Dega, none were fault of his own. His new team, Trackhouse, claims they have the resources to get into the playoffs, with a driver like him, they'll safely get there if the car lives up to the expectations. Is Suárez an undeserving champion? Neither Is Suárez garbage? Not close
I'm not a huge fan of Joe Gibbs but to see Daniel Suarez make history as the first ever International Champion he's definitely earned my respect now
I remember watching this race. I was a huge Suárez fan in his trucks/xfinity seasons. I remember bawling my eyes out because I was so freakin happy.
