    I miss my 92 mr2 I also had this exact widebody on mine. Same color and everything. It was possibly the best car I've ever owned.

      ive rarely met anyone whos was glad to get rid of their MR2, its always "I miss it" "I had one and regret selling it" I believe it too, the guy I bought mine from actually called me back to see if he can buy it back, sadly for him I said no.

    Just to update this car came to Larsen Autoworks on Longisland, we installed a upgraded side mount intercooler with metal piping, tune up, catless downpipe and shifter boot trim. Was a really cool car and fun to drive!

    IMO, the TRD MR2 kit, whether its for a stock MR2 or a MR2 that already has the kit equipped just makes the MR2 look a heck of a lot nicer. 😆🤩

    10 Real TRD kits were shipped to USA in 1998. I have one of those. They did not include the metal firewall plaque but I was able to buy a unmarked one from Japan.

      Would love to know more about your 2000GT! Without the plaque my understanding is that it is the kit, but not installed by Toyota Technocraft, is that correct? In those cases how do you verify the panels to be authentic? I have read to look for Toyota on the underside of the panels but I have no idea if they actually say Toyota anywhere, can you confirm that?

    toyota really knew how to make fun compact sports cars back in the day, really the only recent one is the 86 but that has a silly boxer engine

      Why Toyota ever thought to take an amazing design like the 86 and put a boxer engine in it let alone A NATURALLY ASPIRATED one blows my mind.... I know they couldn't go crazy and put the new supra motor in it or the Camry's v6 but they could have put a turbo version of the last celica gts 4 cylinder, the 2ZZ-GE which already made 190hp N/A. they could have done some amazing things with it but their partnership with subaru is what forced them into using the boxer SHITE. lol.

      @@SupraRy This is just plain disrespectful to how good the engine is and how perfectly balanced the 86 is. A true Toyota fan wouldn't dare to spew such ignorance, upon the 86

    • @Kacpa2
      @Kacpa2 3 роки тому +1

      Fuck off with mocking the engine especial FA24 in the new one is just pure perfection and closest thing to replace the void left by 3S-GE. Subie done great on it wtih Toyota. I only which they made it a liftback coupe like Celica then it would be pure perfection and be practical af just like Celicas were while keeping everything else intact

    I don't believe that black-painted intercooler will work better. Mine non-painted cools the air to +1C warmer than atmosphere at 1.5bar of boost.
    But adding a film of paint will improve the thermal isolation of cooler and it won't give bigger flow of heat through itself.
    The Omori gauges - just awesome!

    All TRD kits have issues fitting them, some more than others, your fuel flap ... It at least fits into the gap, not very well it does appear.... but at least yours fits in, it took me 3 days to redesign the fuel flap on the TRD kit I'm building, ..but my hat goes off to anyone who gets this kit on and it doesn't look like a complete bag of spanners, ...

    Hi Derek. Thanks for this video! You mentioned that you don't believe that this is an authentic TRD2000GT conversion (#3). Do you have any information on how to determine their authenticity? I was not aware of "knock-off" TRD plates, so I am beginning to question the authenticity of several TRD2000GTs that I'm aware of. (Including #5 that the international MR2 community is buzzing about)
    I also made a video about #5 and I don't want to spread misinformation.
    Thanks so much!

    mid engined means it will brake terribly. all the weight is over the rear tires. itll corner like hell though

    • @PacificCoastAuto
      @PacificCoastAuto  7 років тому +2

      Mid engines have more weight behind the centre point of the vehicle. By braking, it shifts the weight distribution forward. Compared to a front engined car, you get better weight distribution between the front and rear tires, thus giving you more grip. You also get better acceleration because more of the weight is on the rear tires.

    • @airtec87
      @airtec87 7 років тому

      ^this, I never understood why people think mid engine brakes, or handles poorly, yeah well formula F1 cars brake the best and corner sharply and they aren't front engine front wheel drive like buukro's civic, just saying.

    • @AlexPerez-mb9sp
      @AlexPerez-mb9sp 6 років тому

      Ki - Free Beats not entirely true, the fact is when these cars were made Toyota made around 20,000 of them vs the very little thousands Honda made, you also gotta remember that in 93 this was Ferrari/supra/NSX killer on a drag strip and on the track. I hope this helped on why they’re cheap and really worth it today!

    • @bonifacijus11
      @bonifacijus11 7 років тому

      mhm, or a dead driver..more often;p..they say it has a tendency to snap/lift off oversteer and you'd better choose the right speed while cornering without braking (or especially hard braking and then excessively accelerating), otherwise you might end somewhere off the road luckily dead;..and i don't think you know all the corners..unless you're on a track..so as a track car it's a good car with a good weight distribution, but in real life (wet, dirty, sandy roads and unknown corners) it's a killer car/a black widow or smth..but i guess it's alike most Porsches and other rear/mid engine cars (with an exception of NSX which was probably the most friendly one from mid-engined cars, maybe due to longer wheel base, or being NA, or smth else, later generation mr2 w30 also were low-powered NA and had slightly longer wheel base, so they weren't so frightening like turboed w20)..so it's either you drive it like a pussy, or brave..and dead:D..so you have to be a good driver to drive a car like this on its' limits, cause mistakes are unappreciated and unforgivable..though i've never driven a rear/mid-engined car, so i have none experience..only what i've seen or heard:/..as for looks - if i were up to 25yo (remembering myself), i'd say this one looks better/cooler than a stock one, but now when i'm 35 i'd choose a stock one..only..without a single doubt..this has too much of plastic..eeww;)

      I also prefer the stock look, however; the TRD2000GT "kit" was designed by Toyota Technocraft to celebrate a record-breaking JGTC series of wins in 1998. Here is more info, if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/5BVhLE-JlQk/v-deo.html
