  • Shrimp and grits is a dish with so many renditions, the only thing you can really count on is that it contains shrimp...and grits. Often there's pork, sometimes mushrooms, and the amount of gravy can range from none to tons. This recipe features plump shrimp, seared mushrooms, crispy bacon, and rich cheese grits infused with layers and layers of flavor. Culinary Director Daniel Gritzer shows you how to make it.

    I was planning doing absolutely nothing on my day off, but here you are, making me all inspired to cook a southern dish I know nothing about. Does this pair well with white wine? Is it too extra to deglaze the shrimpy pan with white wine?

    • @debradowling800

      A little wine never hurt anyone. It isn't necessary though, pretty flavorful without.

    Yeah, I've never understood why the label directions are always so short on liquid. They need more. With the coarse ground ones, I sometimes approach 6 cups to 1 cup of grits.

    • @angellover02171
      @angellover02171 4 роки тому +2

      @@moldypizza using stock instead of water is just wrong. Personally I like shrimp and grits or sausage grits and egg. Bacon is a bit strong for shrimp, adding chicken stock and cheese will also drown out the shrimp flavor that's why you're eating shrimp grits.
      Shrimp and grits is very simple. The shrimp is seasoned with pepper, salt, and onion powder. add flour to the seasoned shrimp cook half way then add water(or shrimp stock) to your frying pan let it cook down to sauce. Grits is also really easy to cook as well but time consuming if you want them really creamy. Water, grits, and salt. I use a slow cooker on low. Every 10-15 min during the two hour cook time, I give the grits a good stir. My grits always turn out great. Don't use easy cook grits for this.
