Technivorm specifically says not to put the glass carafe or the plastic parts in the dishwasher. It will make plastic parts brittle over time. And the glass will eventually shatter. It's all right there in the users guide. It's on their website.
I have the KBGT thermal and after using 100 filters, I run Descal through the system and after washing the carafe and plastic parts in the sink, I use plain 10oz of water 3 times through the coffee maker. BUT, here's a trick to make sure your first pot of coffee after this won't be bitter. The last of the 3 runs of plain water, I use a filter and 1 scoop of coffee! It sure eliminates that butter Descal taste! I have Cleancaf oackets but I don't use it often.
Thanks for the tips! I've been descaling my Moccamaster regularly for 4 years, but recently I forgot for some reason for like six months or more. Then I descaled it again a couple of days ago, and now it tastes much better again. Am I imagining or does it have an impact on taste?
Hi Tomas, You are 100% correct! It makes a major major major difference in taste!! We called Techniform direct and they advised us that if we wanted the best possible tasting coffee to follow the following procedure. We've been doing this process for years and it just works every time. We use our KBT741 every morning to make a full 1.25L of coffee. We use the moccamaster filters...they come 100 filters per box. After using half (50) of the 100 filters we "clean" the brewer and thermal carafe using a product made by Urnex called "Coffee Machine Cleaning Powder". Then when the filter box is empty, we "Descale" the brewer using Dezcal made by Urnex. We have tried several other cleaning products as well as vinegar and the citric acid and we like the Urnex best because it leaves no funny or lingering taste. The most important part of all this is that the coffee tastes amazing and fresh every morning!
I scrub the plastic basket with warm water and soap nearly everyday, but there appear to be oils and coffee stains stuck on the ridges. How would you recommend cleaning out the basket?
I got the packets of Dezcal, I think there were 4 packets in a box. I think it says put the entire bag in & mix with water. I can't imagine it's different then yours, it's just in a bottle lol. Do I only need to put 1 tablespoon in like u said or I do need to put the entire 1oz bag in w/ water? Thanks
My filter basket sometimes fills to the top without filtering because the switch did not release the water. It gets stuck in the closed position. Do I need to buy a new basket or can it be taken apart and cleaned?
You have to have the plastic piece that goes under the carafe. If you've lost that piece, you have to raise the carafe in relation to the machine enough to open the valve.
@@JacksonCountyKayakFishing Moccamaster sent me a free switch that I easily replaced that fixed the problem. Their customer service out of Seattle is marvelous!
I descaled my moccamaster for the first time in a few years (oops!). I actually did it twice because the reservoir looked so gross. But afterward, the reservoir is still really cloudy and kind of gross looking! Is there another way to clean the water reservoir to have it shiny and new again?? I considered putting cafiza in it and then just dumping it out into the sink (not running it through) but I didn't want to hurt it! Anyone have tips?
No no no. You have to mix the product in warm water and stir it and not put it in the machine until it's fully dissolved. It should be warm water, not hot water.
Jordon, Moccamaster says to NOT use anything citric acid-based due to the potential for damaging the copper heating element. They specifically recommend Durgol, and Whole Latte Love recommends Cleancaf, another Urnex Product. I didn't realize until recently that Dezcal could be hamful to my MM KBG.
Max, you are incorrect. I am currently reading the MM owners manual- On page 10 it plainly says "We recommend the use of Dezcal by Urnex for descaling your brewer"
@@maxwellgriffith hmm..we must be reading different manuals- the one I'm referencing doesn't mention Durgol. It seems to be an official TechniVorm manual.

Nonsense. The owners manual says no such thing. support.moccamaster.com/hc/en-us/article_attachments/1500014615561/Moccamaster_Instruction_Manual_10-2021_ENG.pdf
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894Yes, but Cafiza should never go into the reservoir, even if it's dissolved in water. Only into the filter holder and carafe. Dezcal solution can go into the reservoir, but not Cafiza.

Coffee Machine Cleaning powder from Urnex
My boss gave me this machine. It was hers. I have no manual. My termic pot is gross and do built up. What can i use? Help!
If coffee machine cleaning powder doesn't work, use a tablet of dishwasher detergent. Mix with hot water and let it sit overnight.
Next video when?

Do what the owners manual states. Easy.

This video could really use a clearer disclaimer not to put Cafiza powder into the machine itself.
As a rule of thumb, mix powders with water, BEFORE adding to the reservoir.

Why not just use white vinegar?
It can damage the copper heating element
Because it's gonna take you a lot of time to get rid of the smell and it might affect the taste.
