@History Quest, Thanks for this video. In 1976 I was 24. For people of my generation. disagreeing with the Soviet regime, Viktor Belenko was and remains a hero. In those years it was dangerous to express our admiration explicitly, so we often sang a song from a movie (1972). ua-cam.com/video/BfAdLm4xKxw/v-deo.html This song contains a pun: in some Slavic languages the name of the plane "MIG" is consonant with the word "a moment, an instant". “. . .Let this world fly into the distance through the centuries, But not always on the way to me with this world. What do I value, what do I risk in the world? One *MiG* , only in one *MiG* . Happiness or trouble is given to meet me, There is only *MiG* , and hold on to it. There is only a *MiG* between the past and the future, This *MiG* is called a LIFE!. . ."
No matter you western media downplay the superb Soviet airpower, which made thise powerful fighter jets like that of the mig 25 scared and astonished the u.s-nato evils. Yes the Mig 25 Foxbat was indeed a formidable badass to the nato rascals.
When the American pilots learned from Belenko the real, but not fake, characteristics of the aircraft, they laughed: “Foxbat is just a donkey that can run fast.”
Until Belenko defected and the USAF got a close look at the aircraft. After that the mystique disappeared, and we knew the F-15 and F-16 could beat the pants off of the MiG-25 in every possible metric.
It was not that great. Could not dogfight, short range, poor visibility for the pilot, no internal gun. Just an interceptor. The Mig-25 has been retired for some time.
It's a substitute professor today for our history lesson. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching Betty! Hope you enjoyed the video :)

One US Airforce F/A 18 Hornet was shoot down by a Soviet era MIG25 Foxbat supplied for the Iraqi Airforce during the Iraqi Freedom in 2003 .
I thought that happened in 1991 during Desert Storm.
Its intriguing as to how the kgb let him go and did not hunt down the traitor victor belenko at the u.s.
He was tired of the Soviet lies and propaganda. Read the book, "Mig Pilot "

@@berko9608So right you are.
Not a fighter. It was an interceptor.

Was this the basis of the movie Firefox?
Not even a little bit.
Um, December? Try September. You’re wrong in the very first sentence of your script, so the rest of it is suspect.
