I loved this documentary. I saw it tonight. It warmed my heart how this city cares so much for these kitties. They have a lot of love to give them. This paints them in a nice light. So much so I would like to visit just to see them interact with the kitties and enjoy their beautiful city.
I fed one of these cuties when I was in Istanbul. Of course, that's when I heard some snobbish Americans (aka. the dog country people) sneered at them saying that they are dangerous because they weren't artificially bred as much as dogs. Of course, that's an argument that fell flat on its own. Artificially bred animals can arguably be more dangerous. After all, dogs were bred to be door watchers and hunters. Cats? well they are just like wild animals: don't bother them, they won't bother you.
I'm American and I love cats to death, yet 95% of the people are pretty much exactly how you described. It makes me just as sick. But still, there are a select few people I know who aren't like that.
cats are like rats with fancy fuhr, they kill birds everywhere , their urine is toxic to humans, there is nothing good about them other than the fact that they look cute and they puhr. You all a bunch of hypocrite when you think about it, birds lives matter too and people just let their cats outside and the worst of all is usually cat owners dont get them sterilized and they let them reproduce outside creating real problems in some citys. You need to put vinegar everywhere so those stupid cats dont come in my back yard pissing and shiting everywhere otherwise i cant even open my windows cus of the smell. People should'nt let their cats outside like this, if you like your pets your protect them, my neighbor is lucky im not a cat hater and put traps or something. some people might hurt your pet, or a car can run it over, i've seen it happen. Cat owners need to wake up and keep their pets inside or get them sterilized at least so they dont wander around looking for mates. this way they usually stay near their home even if they go outside

I'm Indonesian and although I'm a dog person but I'm also an animal lover so I feed a few of stray cats around my house. But I have a highly respect to these generous people, I never though Turk man are very lovable people. I'm so ashamed that most of our people doesn't have a heart despite our poor economically reason. But they so selfish. I don't know why they have changed? In South Sulawesi they even eat these cats. Some of the city if they caught a criminals in action, they beat this criminals to dead or burn them. They are so mean to others imagine what about animals here, not mention in Java there are monkeys that forced and got abused and died sometime, just to use them as a tour show for making money for them. Stray cat in here often get abused, or accidentally hit by motor cycles and cars and baby kitten were dumped to dead. No one cares. They just busy digging up for money but never gave back to the nature. And when they pet cats, they just pet a breeding cat only. I'm so sad. I wish My people can be like Turk people. It's a paradise for animals in Turkey. God Bless Them..
Dont feed stray cats in places its Not] poplar in,unless your willing to take responsibility for that cat/s. You put them in danger if you acclimatise cats to peoplr,some people hate cats and are hideously cruel to them.

It's a beautiful film. You do get to know several of the cats, they become the film's "characters." Many of the humans express deep understanding of the nature of cats. It's a spiritual connection, and they grasp the power. Istanbul is obviously a beautiful, feeling city.

Istanbul is one of my favorite cities, I've been there twice and fell in love instantly! Of course, cats add a lot to its atmosphere and the movie does a good job of capturing that. However, I would never idealize the life of a street cat, even if they are fed and caressed by people... There are so many dangers for them - heavy traffic, evil people, dogs etc... Why aren't these cats at least neutralized? That would diminish their population in future perspective... I felt so sorry for these orphaned kittens that were shown in the movie. Nothing good is awaiting them, I suppose.
In Istanbul most vets will neuter a street cat for free. They can't just chase around for them all the time but if someone takes a cat to a vet and says it's a stray cat, the vet will do it for free. Most Turks are nice people.
But why diminsh their population? If you neuter all stray cats, there won't be cats left in the future. Cats befriended the human population for a reason, not to get their sacks nipped by us.
This is a turkish proverb, If you do not love animals, you cannot love humans. An old Turkish proverb dating all the way back to the beginning of us all. What an amazing culture I have to be apart of. Alhamdulillah

Citizens of Istanbul interpreted this disaster as the punishment of Allah because of what the Young Turks did to dogs. For centuries, people of Istanbul knows that dogs, cats, birds etc. are entrusted by Allah to them. Lots of people aware of hurting those animals won't be forgotten by Allah. At the judgment day, even animals will have their justice.
Not only İstanbul all of my country is like this and we also take care dogs and birds too. We have tons of volunteers and trying to spay them as much as we can. We feed them like everyday. Of course we have some shitty persons in here but don't worry dealing with them very strongly.😏 In Turkey if you hurt strays probably people will beat you so be careful.😘

I am Turkish. Turkish people has no problems with the cats, but especially outside Istanbul, Turkey is not a haven for animals.
I just watched this documentary and loved it! The score was beautiful, the shots were well framed, and the people were all fantastic.

One of the first things you notice as a visitor to Istanbul. It's a great city but the cats make it just that little bit extra special.
