These are my (further) thoughts on the Bishop Strickland removal, in response to Michael Lofton's rebuttal of my earlier thoughts, and how I think good Catholics should understand this history we are living through in the Catholic Church.

Just to clarify my comments regarding the Dodgers controversy...
I said Bishop Strickland was the only one who stood there in protest among the people. Notice I specifically spoke about his physical presence. Yes, others did speak up, but they did so remotely. My analogy was with Christ's suffering on the cross. Most apostles hid. They may have protested from hiding, but they weren't willing to suffer in person at the cross. Lay people were protesting in person and their shepherds were not among them. I have a lot of respect for Bishop Barron and others who spoke out and I'm not trying to criticize them, but I am trying to help people understand what it would be like to be a lay person standing up for your faith and putting your physical life in the way of those who hate and persecute the Church and the only shepherd among them was Strickland. That's why he won their admiration - and many others along with it.

only a sitting pope can judge another pope not a bishop priest or layman if they tried to they will excommunicated immediately to judge the pope is schism its a mortal sin and its protestantism and Jesus promised hell will never corrupt a sitting pope forever so we catholics believe Jesus words not a bishop or layperson to say pope teaches heresy is a mortal sin schism They assert that no one can judge the pope (Proposition 19) and that "the Roman church has never erred; nor will it err to all eternity, the Scripture bearing witness" (Proposition 22). Catechism says about you who judges the pope its clear in
2482 "A lie consists in speaking a falsehood with the intention of deceiving." The Lord denounces lying as the work of the devil: "You are of your father the devil, . . . there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies."luke 10:16.

@josephfossa8 You may be in error for much of what you say. The organization of the Roman church has historically had other corrupt popes. As the "human beings" that we are -- we DO make mistakes. All of us. Including popes. Good popes or bad popes. Whether by accident or malicious intent.
Francis Bergoglio just may be the manifestation of the "schism" that you fear, dear heart.
The Vatican could disappear from the face of the earth, and Christianity will never cease.
GOD is Eternal, Jesus Christ has redeemed the world, and each of us is born to know, love, and serve God -- by following in the footsteps of Our Lord and Savior.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Do not kill, steal, lie, or cheat.
      Basically, just be GOOD.
AND it is not being "good" to humor those who act in insane, sexually disordered, or demonic ways! (Such as those self-proclaimed "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence." Or those clerics who allow and promote all manner of sacrilege within the walls of Catholic churches.)
To encourage and protect grievous sinfulness within the Church or "out in society" and call it "inclusiveness" is ERROR.
Read holy scripture, as you do. But put God first. Bring love and peace to all men. PRAY for Discernment in all things, and know that God's blessings are always present in the world. Pray.

“…but they weren’t willing to suffer in person at the cross.”
Twice prior to Our Lord’s suffering on the cross Peter protested. The first time; Our Lord and Savior said, “Get behind me Satan.” The second time, Our Lord and Savior said, “Put your sword into its sheath.” Sounds more like they were willing; but under orders by Our Lord and Savior not to intervene. Perhaps Bishop Emeritus Strickland needs to learn how to obey.

A few months back, Cincinnati Right to Life hosted a rosary rally. We were praying for an amendment to be passed so parents could keep rights over their children and abortion on demand could be outlawed.
Plenty of faithful Catholics and other Christians showed up.
Bishop Strickland flew up and lead the rosary. He did a beautiful job. He not only announced each mystery, he provided meaningful meditation with each.
Who knows where the Cincinnati bishop was. But bishop Strickland came and it was wonderful

3 years I’ve been a Catholic. I fell in love with Jesus’ church after 30 years as an evangelical born again Christian. Your channel is one of the first I subscribed to but not the last one. I listened to Taylor Marshall and Timothy Gordon but they confuse me. I do not like SSPX or eastern orthodoxy. I took everyone’s advice and studied the early church fathers and what I got out of all this that’s been happening over the last year?is to follow Father Ripperger’s advice and focusing on becoming holy and pray for everyone. I am a soldier for Christ and will be built up by Jesus, not the church. The church has been evil many times throughout history and Satan is using this situation to divide us and a Laity that is called to be holy has to NOT ALLOW themselves to be divided. My background as an evangelical Protestant? I went through so many church divisions and they never end good, and we as laity of the Catholic Church have to trust in the Holy Spirit now for us to build back the faith and strength of the church. If we act like emotional angry children publicly over this?, and put our trust in catholic news and UA-cam influencers over Jesus?, We are going to not succeed. I personally have been praying for discernment and waiting on the Lord and not getting caught up in all the drama. I am proud and happy to be Catholic and trust that God will take care of the Laity from the corruption 🙏♥️🙏 I am absolutely disgusted about what’s happening but I will never leave the church.

Brian, so glad youre taking this with grace. Lofton isnt worth losing your joy over.
Fr Ripperger has been making some good points about these situations - God may be using this to make us more holy, if times are too good we get weak, hard times make good men, and hard enough times make saints.
I am sad what happened to Strickland, and others who got cancelled, but our focus should be on God, we should be working on our interior lives and detaching ourselves from "the stuff" going on in the world.
With that being said, Lofton needs to show some charity and not act the way he does, blocking people and not letting themselves defend themselves is low, constantly attacking other catholics is low, not showing compassion to the confused catholics and addressing them gracefully is low. Its just low.

Also, I think that's a psychological problem. I am not acquainted with Michael personally, but there seems to be the battle for defending the once-personally-lost Church whatever happens. True Christian shouldn't live by these simple worldly standards like "always defend the Pope" or "always be charitable" or whatevs. True Christian should live by God only. And in different situations, God wants us to behave differently. And sometimes He tests us with challenging decisions. So, I, personally, don't see any improperness in even calling Pope and the most of higher clergy the heretics. It became too obvious, and to deny it either intellectually or publicly would both be a lie. In the first case, to oneself, and in the latter, to your brethren.

    • @killianmiller6107
      @killianmiller6107 6 місяців тому +7

You had me in the first half, not gonna lie, but when you allude to the idea that it’s not improper to call the pope a heretic, I think that is over the line. Perhaps that depends on whether you mean the pope is a heretic privately or a heretic in his public magisterium. The latter case is a major red flag, because to say so seriously casts doubt on the indefectibility of the church (just imagine a sitting pope binding your soul to an error in dogma), and to do so typically shows an evil suspicion regarding the Pope’s words, but I’m willing to understand if you think the pope privately holds to an error in doctrine since that’s happened before.

I have lived in the Diocese Of Tyler during the whole of Bishop Strickland’s tenure. I have attended numerous liturgies, masses, conferences, and celebrations where the Bishop presided. I personally attest that his aura of holiness is unmistakable. That is the primary reason why , I suspect, the unholy oppose him. The unholy always despise the Holy. (Think of how Padre Pio was treated.) I have never experienced a consecration performed with such reverence as those performed by Bishop Strickland. I say “experienced” rather than “seen” because being present was always an unforgettable experience. There is a priest speaking against Bishop Strickland now who was unfortunately briefly assigned to my parish. He criticizes the Bishop for speaking against the Pope. Well…while he was Pastor he regularly lambasted Bishop Strickland , and he did it from the pulpit. So his criticism seems a little hypocritical. This priest’s lack of reverence was shocking. He was disgusted with people who wanted to receive the Eucharist kneeling and on the tongue. In fact, on his first day at my parish, he removed the kneelers from the church and from his sacristy. The Sacristan is my best friend and so I know this and I also saw it and saw her tears. This is the man that is criticizing Bishop Strickland!!! The faithfull are heartbroken in the Diocese of Tyler.

In all honesty, some of the “terrible optics” is due to American political and cultural expectations about democracy, and a deep anti-authority attitude. It’s very Protestant in nature, and I’ve seen it deep into a lot of Catholics. The church is NOT a democracy. It’s organized along military lines. Strickland is not owed a hearing. I believe the Magisterium certainly gave him due process in accordance with canon law, but many American Catholics don’t understand that canon law is not US civil law. And that’s a good thing. I really think is American Catholics need to work on the ways we allow American legal and political culture to shape our expectations and assessments of the church, rather than the other way around.

PWA had kid gloves on for most of that interview, but there was one hilarious sequence. ML did his spiel claiming that Pachamama is really called Our Lady of the Amazon and is just a representation of Mary, not an idol, so the rad trads were wrong to use the term Pachamama for it. Then the interviewer reminded him that Francis himself called the thing "Pachamama" during the ceremony, and Lofton paused for a second before saying that Francis was just being pastoral and using the same name the locals did. The guy doesn't know what he's saying from one moment to the next. If you're going to be successful as a shill you should have a good memory.

It's way simpler than all this. The current pope has bishops and priests teaching heresies left and right, and hasn't removed them. On the other hand he removes a bishop who faithfully teaches the doctrine of the Church, who has a diocese flourishing with vocations and a flock inside the United States and abroad, who feels inspired by him and who loves him, and he's the one being removed from his ministry. Something like this would have never happened during either Pope John Paul II or Pope Benedict XVI's pontificates.

If you weren’t already aware, Strickland had an interview with EWTN yesterday where he shared some of the reasons he was removed. Most notable to me was the bishop’s refusal to uphold traditionis custodes and restrict the Latin mass in his diocese. I believe the bishop had already been privately and publicly warned to correct course… I remember reading or hearing something about it over the summer.
While the pope does have the authority for such changes and enforcement, it never seemed prudent to restrict TLM as he did. It has always felt harsh and cold, uncharitable, and divisive. I personally attend a very reverent Novis Ordo, but would never demand the body of Christ in its entirety do so as well. I have also attended problematic Novis Ordo parishes that fall utterly short and have not been corrected. Ultimately the heart of the matter is still traditionis custodes. THAT is where the holy father failed to listen, and now Francis is making it clear that deaf ears will still be obeyed.

The Pope would sooner have the authority to demand you to wash his dishes than to forbid or restrict the Roman Rite for favor of new rites of the sacraments. It's not only a matter of discipline- It's a matter of dogma ABOUT discipline:
"If any one shall say, that the received and approved rites of the Catholic Church, wont to be used in the solemn administration of the sacraments, may be condemned, or without sin omitted at pleasure by the ministers, or be changed by any pastor of the churches into other new ones; let him be anathema."

I agree with your assessment and your heart felt thoughts and expressions of them. Bcoz truly when the Vatican has NOT yet given ANY reason or cited any canonical reasons for removing a bishop who though imperfect as a regular human being is, but who has tremendous love of Christ, His church and His flock, is outright cruel and smells rotten of a personal vendetta by some of the highest powers in the Vatican. So how does Michael Lofton and his followers or platform friends know to ridicule and criticize bishop Strickland so quickly? Do they have access or private revelation from the Vatican about the exact reasons? Even the letter Michael cites, is not what the Vatican has cited even once publicly as one of the many reasons they have on their list for their decision. So please Brian, do not apologize to Michael Lofton. He’s clearly shown himself to be a pope Francis spokesman. NO ONE judges pope Francis’ soul. Historically we have always judged a pope by their PUBLIC actions and words and actions and choices. Never their souls or hearts! So why can’t we judge this one the same way? After all, he’s surely given us (with the internet and fast and instant news available these days,) PLENTY of such public outright reasons to say he is the worst pope in most of our lifetime! At least during my lifetime. No, we could just ignore the likes of Michael Lofton. No more apologies needed. We’ve done enough. Thank you for all your good work Brian. We are living in the times when good is called evil and evil is called good. This pope’s words seldom match his actions. Heck, it doesn’t even match his own words of few years or months ago! How’s that for a pope that calls for “mercy”??? And God open the eyes of the likes of ML. The Church is now being eclipsed in a very clear manner, by the false shepherds of high powers and positions who have grasped the structure of the Church. This is permitted by Christ who is the Bridegroom and is the cleansing of His Bride, through these evils being exposed. As Jesus said, evil will always be there, but woe to the one through whom it comes. So we pray for our pope and for all those false shepherds around him and advising him or who knows even controlling him? We pray bcoz we acknowledge he IS the pope, albeit a terrible one. But then, we have got the leaders we deserve, and. THAT IS our chastisement. 🙏🏼

He is quite young compared to the old homo bishops and so has much time to convert and save souls and is busy with this mission. Many unknown reasons to me may be added.

I was here for the whole arc, and the best point you made is “your arguments were better than the ones the people involved actually gave.”
There is a hypothetical case to be made, in the abstract, but is that really what is motivating those making the decisions? You have insight, that others have corroborated, that this is NOT the case. On the weight of evidence I would have to agree.
We concede you CAN make a valid argument to remove Bishop Strickland, we do not concede that those involved DID make a valid argument in coming to this decision.

The most lingering effect of removing Strickland, for me, is that bad bishops are still in power while good ones are being summarily removed - with impunity. I'm forced to acknowledge that our Pope's moral compass is off, which is horrifying. If this continues it can only trickle down to good priests then good laity. Maybe I'm more worried than I should be?

      I'm sad too.
Just as it has seemed inconceivable that our wonderful Father Frank Pavone, "Champion for the Unborn" and untiring leader of countless "Walks for Life" was ALSO unjustly attacked by the evil forces within the current Catholic Church "administration."
Know that wicked politicians who call themselves "Catholic" and yet support MURDER of Children in their mothers' wombs are NOT "Catholic" and not CHRISTIANS of any kind. But they ARE the very ones who ally with, and INFLUENCE the "so called Catholic" influencers who conspire against GOOD Catholics. And they especially target the holiest of true Catholic clerics. And dear wonderful Pastors and Bishops like Archbishop Strickland.

mtg5004 I am worried too. But we can only do what we can. And that is to PROMOTE the Truth, as we know it to be. Support the true Shepherds who guide their flock. And just be willing to bravely be like that child in the old fable - and say: "But the Emporer isn't wearing any clothes!" We may indeed be witness to the destruction of the Catholic Church from within, as well as from outside forces. Prayer is our greatest tool. Christianity will never die. God is always with us. Try to protect our traditional conservative church and our good faith. 🙏 ♥

I truly appreciate your perspective. I've been troubled by comments in the media and some of the personalities behind those comments. But here you're logical yet charitable. If the desire is to have a synod or listening Church, then why not listen equally to all. Selectively here shows a choice, and action confirms. I pray for our Church and fellow Catholics that we may weather this storm and become the better for it.

Could be because he’s going against the mainstream American Catholic media that the Pope is at best very wrong at worst a heretic. If he toed their line he’d be bashing the Pope. His little channel causes a stir because he doesn’t. He actually brings out the primary sources & reads them online, the Pope’s writings & council documents.

Brian, thank you for this clarification. That makes a lot more sense explaining why even if Bishop Strickland is in the wrong, he deserves a chance to repent and/or share his concerns directly with Pope Francis. Not be booted and ignored. I agree, and if conversations between Pope Francis and Bishop Strickland occurred beforehand behind the scenes, we all should know. If not that is cold and not "synodal".

    • @kimfleury
      @kimfleury 6 місяців тому

It's more than that, because it's not a private matter between the Pope and his Bishop. It's a public matter, and as such is to be addressed according to Canon Law, which means holding a trial where Bishop Strickland can defend himself from accusations.

We all appreciate Lofton's content to a degree but more often than not his animas comes out with when he comes across those of us who are just trying to use common sense and may not have degrees in theology.
