I purchased mine in 2005 new, still have, never selling it. Makes me smile every drive. 4.9 to 100 is still pretty handy and blows off most cars nearly 20 years it's junior. Had a few minor repairs done, it's now 120k KM and just about to it's refit aka plugs, belts, cover gaskits etc, all the normal m113 stuff. I drive top down unless it's raining, cold is no issue with airscarf. Never use the stereo, the exhaust note is the best sound track around.
@@nobleoxx The engine & transmission are well known to be robust and my car followed the usual, timing cover gaskets, a few other minor items needed replacing at 120,000km. I've not done the 16 spark plugs yet, supposed be done at 120,000km but it runs fine, that will be expensive when required @$12 each. I downgraded the front brakes from floating to solid discs so thats now cheap to maintain and to be frank the brakes work just as well. Only fault I have had was again a common one, a few capacitors in the aircon control $3 for parts to DIY fix. All in all I've probably spent US$1,000 on these extra items and the balance is routine tyres (they wear really well as the car is balanced well, I run Pzeros and like them a lot), oil, pads and thats been pretty much it. Not bad for 17 years motoring. Here in NZ the car is now going up in value as they are seldom available. Hope this helps. BTW: I selected this car as I could see the technology for emissions control becoming an unwanted overhead on newer models. I'd consider this car 'basic" on electronics and therefore uber easy, low risk, low cost to maintain and this has proven the case.

My 55 will eat any boxster..... ive owned several, ive even had two 911s and they were not much closer in a straight line. Fact... this has everything including a proper roof.
Just bought an Slk55 after years of yearning for one and rewatching this video over and over. I absolutely love it. Its the first luxury car I've ever owned. If you're someone who comes from driving hondas and toyotas, the interior is not gonna feel cheap. There are lots of plastics, but its all pretty nice soft touch stuff. When I first got in the SLK I was honestly shocked that it felt as solid inside as it did.
Just bought one 1 month ago & I’m telling you it’s the most underrated beautiful little car I’ve ever driven it’s just so smooth it gaps everything on the road. I’ve got 64000 miles on mine I’m trying to keep it low as possible.
I have the slk350 with the sports suspension, and it's a great touring car for the hills I live in. 305hp V6, NA, small, good gas mileage, reliable, quick, hardtop, handles...I love it!
I lived with this car for a few years and honestly, it's one of the best coupes/convertibles of all time... mine was black and in exceptional condition. The head turning factor, the engine and the b-road destruction component all added to the appeal and enjoyment.
What a lovely thing all these years later. In fact, time has only made its appeal more irresistable than ever. I'll have this over a Boxter of any generation any day of the week. Thank you Jayemm as always, you make the best content on YT for enthusiasts.
@@yoshi555king The 2012 on 172 has the AMG SPEEDSHIFT plus 7G-TRONIC with a wet clutch rather than a torque converter is an improvement. It also has auto blip
I ran a 55 for a while but didn't enjoy it due to the auto box: it just felt too disconnected. As a manual it would have been amazing and still in my garage. Sledgehammer of an engine and loved to rev for such a large displacement.
Even the V6 cars are great and an absolute bargain to boot. Great fuel consumption, comfortable and a lovely sound plus the ability to transform a convertible to a coupe in a mere 22 seconds! The V6 M272 engine is after all the SKK55 V8 engine with 2 cylinders lopped off.
CiderGuy Not quite- the M272 engine is the M273 V8 with two cylinders cutoff, the SLK55 uses the older (and much more durable) three valve single cam M113 V8. Agree with you though, the V6 SLK's are also a nice drive.
CiderGuy 22 seconds that’s 2 seconds slower than a Vauxhall Tigra B (when it’s working of course) I almost bought one of these SLK’s but interior was a rubbish plastic affair
I saw a video of the Japanese racing a SLK55 against a Boxster of the same era and the SLK55 utterly destroyed it, I know it's heavy, I know it doesn't handle as sharp, but it's just Mercedes brute force, which kinda works.
The SLK55 is unrivalled as an all round package. Bulletproof engine, coupe/convertible at the touch of a button, quick/civilised when you want, with an awesome sounding V8 in the size of shoe, to coin a clarkson’s phrase when reviewing this motor. He bought one afterwards, so that tells you everything. I have the face lifted R171 (2010) as a weekend driver and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
Lol, you are just getting left behind. Yes the newer ones have smaller engine, but all of them are better. Better HP, better fuel efficiency, and faster. You are just wasting money paying the extra road tax and fuel for it. I was the same too before. But more then 10 years back, I tried the newer cars and learned that large engine displacement isn't the only thing to look at.
@@m.d.f3797 better fuel economy yes , more hp that's just a blatant lie What little 4 banger 2 seater convertible has 380hp? Aside from the point, nothing like the v8 sound and feel in a small car

@@johntaeb99 which part of my comment was a blatant lie? Where did I say there is a 4 cylinder with 380hp? Not only you are putting words in my mouth, you are just shooting yourself in the foot there. Do you even understand my original comment? I said newer ones have smaller engines. Most of the newer engine, regardless of displacement s, are better then the older engine because it is more efficient in the sense of engine displacement over HP. Older 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 or however many cylinders cannot compete with the newer same type of engine. BTW if you think no 4 pots can get 380hp here is a real example for you to swallow. Look at the new Koenigsegg Gemera. That thing have a 3 cylinder 2.0L twin turbo engine that produce 600hp. That is 200hp per cylinder. This is the future.
@Crooked Skate Supply Co Are you talking about the roadster or the coupe. Not driven these but from what I remember reading the roadster was awful but the coupe was a lot better. I do love the coupe but is in the £30,000 category not in the £10,000 category the Merc is in.
I think the SLK is a more practical car than the Boxster because of its roof. I have a 2015 SLK55 AMG (R172) with optional LSD, stiffer/lower springs raised speed limiter etc (P30). It has a more powerful engine (421hp 398 ft lbs) and a better interior than this reviewed R171. In town I use C mode (controlled efficiency) for its smother gear changes and on the open road always S mode never M. I love it to bits! 😍 Please do a review on the R172 AMG too! 🙏
I have the SLK 350, yes i agree about the interior, its not refined enough for a Merc, but after owning it a few months, you realize its a very special car and you start to fall in love with it, i very rarely see another SLK on the road, i see plenty of boxsters about.
I have an '05 Firemist Red SLK55 * I added the full Kleemann blower, ECU, LSD, Headers (no cats) and its pretty sprite with 489 rwhp. The car will not hold traction until ~ 75 mph under full throttle and you can hear it coming 1/4 mile away (literally, you can hear the low rumble when my wife enters our neighborhood ;o) It's a fun car, very reliable, and a great convertible for the Florida coast.
Last year I was on my way to view a Gen 2 Boxster S and spotted an ad for a 2005 55 the location of which was on my way, so I thought I’d stop by to have a look. When the owner started the car from cold - that V8! I was hooked. I still went to see the Boxster, but I bought the 55. It’s the noise and speed of the thing. Yes the gearbox can be a nightmare upshifting when you don’t want it to, but the trick is to limit it to 3rd or 4th gear using the paddles and it’s a revelation.
Oh wow you covered a car I actually own! I find mine to be an amazing car, 30mpg on a run, ridiculously fast in a straight line, the best sound any car can make but the gearbox sucks (especially when cold) and it just refuses to go round corners in the wet due to that heavy engine up front.
I’m right there with you. I have the same car only in dark blue. I never drive it in the rain or when it’s cold, it’s always driven topless, hard, and fast…
30 mpg?!? I find that impossible! I’m thinking about getting one of these, but the only reason I wouldn’t is because of fuel consumption and the gearbox.
@@dylanja It will do 30mpg if you really want it to. But yeah day to day you'll get 24mpg - 27mpg. Mine is currently for sale on AutoTrader if you're in the UK. Video of it here: ua-cam.com/video/wMH2cWbbo0Q/v-deo.html
Fantastic J really pleased you did this one,had my slk55 for 7yrs now, much faster than both my 911s (not turbo) and sat on a boxster really no comparisons. best car I've owned, never had a car for more than 2 years. Just don't go out in the wet !!!!!!!!!
I have a friend with a 997 Carrera gen 1. He loves my SLK 55 AMG and agrees that it is more accelerative than the 997. I'm sure that his car would be faster on the bends though.
Hi Julian thanks for the reply, yes the 911 would be stiffer in the bends nice to hear from another 55 owner. Have you tried shell v power ? omg it changes the cars performance from rapid to insane,16plugs with extra spark makes so much difference. I've used this in other cars and really couldn't tell the difference e.g. my wife's clc 200 .....no change. It's a must but only shell the others have little advantage. Cheers pete.
Peter SIMPSON Hey Peter, Thanks for the reply to my message. To answer your question, I’ve only ever run the car on Tesco Ultimate 99 Ron. I will be sure to try our the Shell fuel to see if there is a discernible difference. Is your car standard? I gather many of the AMG’s have had an X pipe fitted.
Hi Julian my car is totally stock, no modifications at all. It's a 2006 in red with 30k from new, dry use only makes it completely pristine, also no nasty black alloys.Took the car for service last year at Merc specialist in cornwall, both mechanics chins hit the floor. I've been told never ever purchase supermarket fuel from several people far more qualified than myself. I have been using normal 95ron until three years ago, got a real bollocking from previous mechanic, switched to v power shell and couldn't believe the instant power up. Like a different car after twenty miles. I was told ...... run the tank empty as you dare. fill with v power then high speed motorway run for twenty miles if poss. what's your car? Cheers pete
Peter SIMPSON Hey Peter, Thanks for the message. Cornwall must be a great place to own this car. Beautiful countryside and all. Up here in Kent come the dryer months a evening run to the pub with the roof down is a think of pleasure. I will definitely try out V-Power as you suggest. To answer your question my car is the one featured in the Video.
You know I'm thinking of getting one and this video is exactly what I think is perfect and explains everything that is needed for a perspective buyer. Well done guys!!!
As the owner of the car featured in this video I wholeheartedly recommend the SLK55 as a fun car purchase. I've had mine for over 3 years and still enjoy it immensely. Just watch out for corrosion on the arches and the rear subframe can also be vulnerable to rot. The air conditioning compressor is under the front bumper and therefore very well positioned to pick up grime and stones, if it has failed it is awkward to get to (bumper off) and expensive. I would recommend a pre- purchase inspection on a ramp by either a specialist or Mercedes Benz. Good Luck.
For experiencing AMG's best mastery of the SL/SLK classes, drive the end of the generation: the SL63 AMG. Thanks to AMG's visceral direct steer update truly fluid road feel can be felt with the ABC chassis. Even more than brand new electronically assisted steering models. Indeed the end of the R230 generation was peak SL and the best of the generation for a multitude of reasons. SLK55's improved dramatically in 2010 as well. However 2009-2012 SL63's and especially SL65's are exceedingly rare. However they are exceedingly dominant road weaponry at speed. Very insightful Mr. Jay.
You can get paddle shifts fitted to replace the standard steering column buttons. I believe this was an option not many people chose. They're the same paddles that are fitted to the SLS, so they're aluminium and have a great feel to them. Much more fun on a mountain road! Highly recommended. Also, an X-pipe (straight-through) exhaust adds a LOT more drama. But, with more noise come more responsibility. If you live in a quiet street, your neighbours will hate you. And, if you're a yob, so will everyone else.
This generation of SLK is beautiful. I have the SLK 350 2007 and I love it. You can press these cars harder than you think without losing grip. With that said, I need new rear tires :-)
As an owner of an 05 SLK55 and a rabid owner of AMG’s, I can say this one has been the most reliable so far, and if you do get one, get an X-pipe and a cat delete and you’ll sound very close to an SLS
i own an 05 55 too david can you actually get a x pipe and still keep the cats? garages around my way are so pro cats so imagine could be difficult MOT time dont want to spend up to £700 for this then have problems, if you get what i mean.
I honestly don’t know, down in Florida I don’t have that so you absolutely can’t have asked pipes and have the secondary cats because I had it on my E 55 but it will not sound nearly as nice.
Top class review. Love these cars and are on my radar for the potential next purchase. I've currently got the SLK 350, and there's about 10 grand difference to get a similar mileage and year to trade up to the SLK 55. I would be very interested in your review of my car comparing this to one of these to see if it's worth spending the extra money. Happy for you to feature my car on your channel one day. Cheers, Jon.
I’ve never driven the SLK350 but I’m aware that it was very well reviewed back in period. As for the 55, I’ve owned mine (the feature car) for 3 years and absolutely love it. If you are tempted then my advice is, go for it. Just don’t buy a scruffy one and watch out for rust on the arches and lower extremities.
@@julianadams2206 Thanks for this. I am considering one of these as they are not only fun but they are still reasonably priced and also likely to be a potential investment. The guy that previously owned my 350 traded this is for a 55 with this idea in mind. Cheers, Jon.
The R171 is seriously undervalued in the UK, not the case in Europe. The post-facelift car is especially good value with the manual providing a solid and accurate shift as opposed to the snick-snak of the Boxster. Your drive the two cars differently and both are excellent. Horses for courses.
Really balanced suspension, the shocks rate is not stiff , because oposit to a BMW , the front suspension have more control arms, and the cars trajectory dose not impose for sport springs or shocks. You can have a lot of fun in it to, the rear suspension have a looot of grip and hugs the road, but also you can drift it without the BMWs well felt rubbery feeling.
I have an SLK350 & I can press on fairly briskly on some pretty fun roads (the South Island of NZ) Id love a 55 but my budget doesnt stretch to that over here. Cheap interior plastics (which break far too easily) quickly fade from view because my stupid grin always gets in the way. Its easily the driving favourite of my three cars (the others being a 2.0 Golf daily driver & a 5.4l Ford Falcon Boss 260kW V8)
My brother has the SLK 200Kompressor, I have the Boxster 987. I was impressed by the interior of the SLK...but you cannot beat Porsche on anything else. Faster, better handling, more boot space...and a more special badge

The roads around Thaxted and Great Sampford are some of my favourites! Looking at a R172 55AMG this summer. The same but with a better interior and more POWER!
Another one of my favourite drives is the route from the fox in bulmer (Sudbury) all the way through to finchingfield. And of course if I’m that way I’ll do the steeple bumpstead road.
I’ve watched this video three times. I was considering a Mx5 and this car. I know they’re not comparable outside of both being roadsters. I’m now on the hunt for the SLK55.
Good luck with your hunt for an SLK 55. There is a very low mileage on currently for sale on the Collecting Cars Auction current bid £11444 and 3 days to go.
I owned one and i can tell you, its one of the best sleepers you can get stock from mercedes. I smashed so many porsches, audis, bmw, jags.. etc.. with it on the autobahn. It was just a pleasure :) lovely car and very durable.
Had both, an slk32 and still own an ‘07 Slk55. The 32, I agree, is the ultimate sleeper and wouldn’t hesitate to own another but the 55 with the visceral V8 soundtrack and better looks (not that the 32 isn’t good looking in its own right) won me over. My 55 also has the p30 Nurburgring pkg. so would be curious how the handling would compare to the Boxsters.
I bought one of these 11 years ago.....a beast to drive fantastic for over taking, but this one definitely has exhaust work done x-pipe cats deleted.gives u that lions ROAR..Mine has the standard exhaust.....Use it once a week as a scenic summer drive.Fantastic PACKAGE.
Hey Peter, Glad that you liked the review of my SLK 55. Since shooting the video in early 2020 I have had the centre resonator box removed and a Stainless steel X pipe installed to hear more of that lovely V 8 noise. Glad to hear that you are still loving yours after 11 years. In my opinion they are an almost unique package and still generally under appreciated.
It’s the hard top convertible that make me want this over the Porsche. The fact that this doesn’t have the abc suspension like the SL500 is another major selling note. I bit more room like the SL would be nice but there are things you gotta give to get.
I was surprised by one of these recently on the A27. STi was fully loaded up including boards on the roof rack following week in Cornwall, but even so I didn't expect it to put up as much of a challenge as it did.
Ryan Mccormick Clarksons SLK 55 was Black. There is an interesting article obtainable via Google in which he wrote for The Times back in 05 about what made him choose this car after owning its big brother the SL55.
I've got the red, trust me it looks fantastic on this car pristeen with 30k from new. It really gets lots of attention getting very sort after now. High octane fuel is a must with 16 platinum spark plugs, not to be used with 95ron trust me 7 years of ownership.
James this was the first car I bought myself! Hilarious little car that I will always love... But that gearbox was absolutely horrific... I would love to drive one of these again later on in my life to see if that love could be rekindled.
I own a BMW M4 and an E89 Z4. Both great cars but my SLK 300 handles like the MINI Roadster I once had. Very fun car. The SLK is super underrated. I bought it over a Boxster because most Porsche models look like VW Beetles. I would rather arrive at every destination in a Benz than a VW. 😀
Wrong. The V6 offered a manual which obeyed and performed. V6 offers strong low-end torque vs Porsche flat sixes. This isn't simply about the V8. Being a jerk has no reward. Porsche and Jaguar myself so I have no dog in the fight.
my husband has had his amg 55 for about 18 months now cant ever see him getting shot of it he still grins like a cheshire cat when ever he gets what he calls pencil necks coming up beside him goading him to stick his foot down in their little roller skates lmao bless him he does love that thing
Can’t blame him for the big grin. I love driving mine too. Has he joined the. Just SLK 55 AMG Facebook owners club forum yet? If not get him to sign-up.
Interesting review personally, I found this popular car, to be very confused, massive engine in a small body which was horribly let down by its transmission and then a total lack of ability to deliver its power through the rear because it does have a lot of torque, so in summary, neither a good sports car or cruiser. Personally I think it's better compared to the E89 Z4 and for me that's a much nicer car in every aspect, but also just a cruiser in 35is guise.
Mr Kruger Agree with your comment. This car was never built as a GT 3 competitor. In the real world for most owners the blend of practicality with the faster than human shifts in sport (speed shift) mode will be enjoyment enough.
I don't know why people consider the SLK 55 a sportscar? Sure its a convertible but it wasn't even meant to be that type of car. It's a full on muscle car so the 5G and 7G tronic fit quite well with the theme of the SL and SLK. And also they shift very smoothly as expected from a torque converter automatic. Just don't try to shift up and down the gears too much (manual enthusiasts might cringe at this but this is an automatic not a stick shift).
I own a red one, only three made in 06 in this colour, looks fantastic. I also own a 997 turbo tip so happy with both auto boxes as not a boy racer! Buy one now before prices rocket.
I have a Mercedes document the previous owner gave me that listed the number of cars made and in what colour for each year. It states 3 for 2006 but you could be right. Even 7 in the U.K. Makes it very rare so happy days!
Both the 2006 slk280 and 2006 slk55 amg are underrated and under appreciated, to me. I've owned both and be it fuel milage or speed, thsee cars have it. The two things I don't like are either are 1) what's with the cup holder placement?? and 2) I would not suggest taking these cars on long road trips if you don't have much travel time. Denver to Deadwood, it's a fun drive. Denver to Dallas, NOT a fun drive. I'm considering putting a RenTec Supercharger in my 55 amg. Any thoughts???

kleemann or Rennech supercharger? Do it. It’s it turns a phenomenal engine into vastly superior with more usable torque curve and throttle response for sport driving. Just make sure you get a limited slip
@@julianadams2206 I have a limited slip (westek or westech can't remember the spelling). I want to get the kleemann supercharger. Working on it. There's a few people with videos on UA-cam about both products the Renntech and the kleeman. Might want to take a look at one of those or the company's literature. Pretty exciting product
I had a 2010 Slk 350 with 306 hp That restyled version with the mclaren nose looks much better. Also the interior from 2008 on was much better quality. I owned it from new and drove it 7 years. Fast enough anyway.
Having had a 2013 C63 AMG with the DCT and Performance package as well as a couple of cars with the 7G trans the two are so different animals. Having said the 5G in my SLK320 is a better IMHO than the 7G. I say that because downshifts in the 7G were almost unnoticeable. Only when you got into 5th could you get to work. From there it was as good as the 5G. Having had at least 5G cars that trans is pretty smooth and reliable. My only complaint was the ratio between 1 and 2 on a down shift would put you through the windshield if you did not pay attention to speed and revs. Looking at a 2006 SLK55 AMG with 40000 km on it next week so this was helpful.

It looks and sounds absolutely beautiful, not flashy but classy. The steering is great, and given how bulbous cars have gotten, it is rather narrow and can actually be enjoyed on (more sweeping) B roads. 'Only' 284 hp are sufficient for my taste but picking up a 4.2 XKR certainly does not go amiss either. Especially since this will save you from the dreaded plastic chain tensioner issue (which we, and many others, have not experienced). You may want to pick up one with the three center gauges rather than the outdated sat nav for an extra special feel (don't be scared by the 'oil pressure' gauge, it is fake and able to scare anybody with the knowledge of what an oil pressure gauge ought to do). As with any classic car, invest in rust proofing it further (we had bad experiences with our S-Type) and seek out a truly good mechanic (they are incredibly hard to come by in Germany), the car will thank you for it. @@X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X Yea I wanted to avoide the 4.0 because of the plastic tensioners. I didn't think it would be a big issue but I figured if I could avoide it I would. For German standards this car is too cheap to be any good. I suspect this is very much different in the UK, however. IF it has full service history (the most important thing!) and few, preferrably one, owner and no short-term owner, it seems like a good deal. Interior wear seems to fit the mileage.

Agree entirely. Next model not nearly as good looking

Does it really have 305hp? The 3.5 V6 was always rated at 268, I'd be surprised if they stroked it out just for the SLK

Agreed - except the SLK55 uses the older generation M113, to which the M112 V6 is related.
CiderGuy Not quite- the M272 engine is the M273 V8 with two cylinders cutoff, the SLK55 uses the older (and much more durable) three valve single cam M113 V8. Agree with you though, the V6 SLK's are also a nice drive.
Sasha the Slasher - Thanks for the correction, my mistake.

22 seconds that’s 2 seconds slower than a Vauxhall Tigra B (when it’s working of course) I almost bought one of these SLK’s but interior was a rubbish plastic affair
Agreed i have the 350, its only slightly slower 0-60 time, but a lot cheaper to run, and that V6 still makes a lovely sound.
I saw a video of the Japanese racing a SLK55 against a Boxster of the same era and the SLK55 utterly destroyed it, I know it's heavy, I know it doesn't handle as sharp, but it's just Mercedes brute force, which kinda works.
I saw the same or similar race and the SLK 55 handles better as well as has more power. I have the Boxster but would love to have both
@@papatorr3669 Yup same old crap being spouted about Porsche Boxster superiority.

I had exactly the same car when I lived in England , and enjoyed it driving through the countryside!
I've had mine 8 years and will never sell it..we'll never see large capacity engined small cars again.

Shout out to the SLK55 that used to play with me in Cambridge 06-07 in my Red R34. Hanging with the Ferraris you were definitely fun to spar with!

Depends on you want in a car. The Boxter is the more fun car to drive but I guess you'd always have the Ims at the back of your mind!!!
@Crooked Skate Supply Co Are you talking about the roadster or the coupe. Not driven these but from what I remember reading the roadster was awful but the coupe was a lot better. I do love the coupe but is in the £30,000 category not in the £10,000 category the Merc is in.
Lov your reviews you get all the right cars on and give an real honest everyday mans view
Thanks, that is my aim
I think the SLK is a more practical car than the Boxster because of its roof.
I have a 2015 SLK55 AMG (R172) with optional LSD, stiffer/lower springs raised speed limiter etc (P30). It has a more powerful engine (421hp 398 ft lbs) and a better interior than this reviewed R171. In town I use C mode (controlled efficiency) for its smother gear changes and on the open road always S mode never M. I love it to bits! 😍
Please do a review on the R172 AMG too! 🙏
Never thought I'd ever hear anyone call the SLK "more practical"
I like these. Must be powerful in that size car. I had an e55 which was quick for a barge
Haircuts good Jay knocked about 20 years off you :) 👍
It’s much heavier than a boxster for example though
Simmo TVR well it's naturally aspirated so about 100 less hp. Still plenty of power tho
The aural presence of this car is unbelievable. Deep cultured rumble at low revs, baritone V8 hammer higher up...
I absolutely love my 07 AMG 55! Still rocking after 13 years! Just hate the lazy shifting.
Still absolutely love the look of these. My friend had one in 2006 and I recall it sounding superb 😎
precisely especially with the legendary SLR nose hmm delicious.
Oh wow you covered a car I actually own! I find mine to be an amazing car, 30mpg on a run, ridiculously fast in a straight line, the best sound any car can make but the gearbox sucks (especially when cold) and it just refuses to go round corners in the wet due to that heavy engine up front.
PutSomeDsonThatBlink best sound any car can make? It’s decent but far from best

I've been told never ever purchase supermarket fuel from several people far more qualified than myself. I have been using normal 95ron until three years ago, got a real bollocking from previous mechanic, switched to v power shell and couldn't believe the instant power up. Hey Peter,
Thanks for the message.
Good Luck.
Here's how I'd compare the Boxster, Z4, and SLK55. The Boxster, is a ballerina. The Z4, is a boxer. The SLK55, is the god of thunder.

Having driven all 3, I totally agree. 👍
Jay.
I feel like your following my car searches lol
Listening to the V8 is what I’m here for, the other highlight of this video......Jays haircut, nice job. 👍
This car looks epic in red. The airscarf is so beneficial for top down motoring.

I like the last shot with the camera on the ground.
Had one for couple of years before my C63 great car watch out for rear subframe cracking though !

Great video again with great opinion. Cheers.
debating between this or the slk 350 manual. this one definitely sounds better , but no manual :(
Wonder if people moaning bout the gearbox realize that it's one of the most bulletproof gearboxes ever built. 722.6 for the win.

Agree with your comment.
I'd buy it just for the engine!
Would pick the SLK 32 AMG over both. Especially with a smaller pulley.
I own a red one, only three made in 06 in this colour, looks fantastic. I also own a 997 turbo tip so happy with both auto boxes as not a boy racer! Buy one now before prices rocket.
They made 7 in red. I own a red one too!
I have a Mercedes document the previous owner gave me that listed the number of cars made and in what colour for each year. It states 3 for 2006 but you could be right. Even 7 in the U.K. Makes it very rare so happy days!
Kevin Gardiner for sure. The likelihood of you ever seeing another red one is ultra rare 😎
Love the sound around 9:20 :-D
I have the forgotten Peugeot. A 106 diesel. Cost me £500. What golden oldie have you got? And can you remember what you paid for it?
I have a Citroen Xantia V6, 3.0L Petrol. paid £700 for it and wouldn't sell it for ten times that now.
@@BibtheBoulder Excellent choice!! I used to have a green one. Loved and missed....A true wolf in sheep's clothing
Thanks for bringing us yet another vibe 🥂 enjoyed
Both the 2006 slk280 and 2006 slk55 amg are underrated and under appreciated, to me. I've owned both and be it fuel milage or speed, thsee cars have it. The two things I don't like are either are 1) what's with the cup holder placement?? and 2) I would not suggest taking these cars on long road trips if you don't have much travel time. Denver to Deadwood, it's a fun drive. Denver to Dallas, NOT a fun drive. I'm considering putting a RenTec Supercharger in my 55 amg. Any thoughts???

I drove my SLK 55 to Spa Francorchamps and back to the UK (600 Miles) to watch the SPA Classic racing event. I think my buddy and I must have used every millimetre of storage including around the spare wheel but if all went-in, just. 😆
kleemann or Rennech supercharger? Do it. It’s it turns a phenomenal engine into vastly superior with more usable torque curve and throttle response for sport driving. Just make sure you get a limited slip
Cloid Hammers
Sounds like a pretty exciting idea. Have you done this yourself?
With the supercharger and LSD it would definitely be a mini SLR.
@@julianadams2206 I have a limited slip (westek or westech can't remember the spelling). I want to get the kleemann supercharger. Working on it. I think the package with the intercooler, of course not including installation installing it yourself is about 8,000.00 US. There's a few people with videos on UA-cam about both products the Renntech and the kleeman. Might want to take a look at one of those or the company's literature. Pretty exciting product

As a fellow SLK 55 owner have you joined the: Just SLK 55 owners club group on Facebook yet?
Would you say this example is better than a modern SLK?
Interesting Merc, and that engine note👌
Love these so much
I had a 2010 Slk 350 with 306 hp
That restyled version with the mclaren nose looks much better.
Did you buy the SLK 55 AMG?
@@julianadams2206 The local one was ridiculously priced with issues so no deal there. There was one over in Vancouver but he sold it in the last hour of business last Monday before I could get over Tuesday morning so no SLK55 AMG in my garage and none around at the moment. New tires, new battery and new headliner in the SLK320 with new ball joints delivered today so I think I will keep it a while.

Good luck with your journey to track down and acquire an SLK 55.
I’m sure that the SLK 320 is a fun car too.
I’ve had my SLK 55 (the one featured in JayEmm’s video) for 3 years and enjoy it immensely.
Can you do a review on a 4.2 XKR? Pre 2007 the X100 models?
XK8s are some of the most beautiful machines I have ever laid my eyes on.
@@X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X I'm planning on picking up an XKR 4.2 this year. Just wanted someone who has tried more cars to drive it so I can get some input into them a little more. There aren't many indepth reviews out there.
@@Punisher9419
We own a 1998 XK8 (the original 4.0 model, even before the supercharged XKR came out for the 1999 model year), bought it in mint condition in 2013.
Feel free to ask me any further questions, if you think I may be able to help you out.
@@X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X Yea I wanted to avoide the 4.0 because of the plastic tensioners. I didn't think it would be a big issue but I figured if I could avoide it I would. Same with the power I figured if I could get the XKR I might as well. I didn't want the satnav version it doesn't look as nice and I doubt it would work that well today. Didn't know about the fake oil gauge though, not that I mind as it still looks much nicer then the sat nav version.
We have the same problem in the UK, most mechanics are really bad and will either not work on a car because it's too much work or will just rush it entirely. Would you have the underside treated with waxoyl or something?
I'm looking at this one at the moment, is there anything about it that looks wrong? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GORGEOUS-SUPER-CHARGED-2003-JAGUAR-XKR-XK-XK8-4-2-S-C-400-BHP-COUPE-PX/153850631238?hash=item23d2365446:g:bz8AAOSwzwxd-RuR

Good call. Might as well get the best version you can get.
I have to say I am surprised. I figured one should be able to find proper Jaguar mechanics in their own country at the very least. I would: we had all the cavities sealed (I cannot remember with what unfortunately), the X- and S-Type we had before both succumbed to rust in Southern Germany's salted roads.
For German standards this car is too cheap to be any good. I suspect this is very much different in the UK, however. IF it has full service history (the most important thing!) and few, preferrably one, owner and no short-term owner, it seems like a good deal.
Interior wear seems to fit the mileage. Foglamps are fogged up (ironically). The left rear mudguard looks a bit dull in one picture, it may have been repainted.
Great video. Very informative
Correction, only the facelifted 204 C63 have the MCT gearbox, older ones are still torque converter
Yeah my mistake. All of the 63s I have driven are facelifts
