There's a wonderful moment when the two main characters have a moment of self actualization and realize they are the leads in a cheap b-move. And it all comes about when they point out how ridiculous their names are. "What kind of name is Harley Stone?" "What kind of name is Dick Durkin?" And they start pissing themselves laughing. It's wonderful!
The creature does have a 2000AD vibe, specifically, Judge Death, attempting to recreate his costume from contemporary junk, as illustrated by Simon Bisley in 1991's Dredd/Batman crossover Judgement On Gotham, even has the sunglasses like visor.
Watched it VHS as a kid and loved it. There's something about the London setting and how seriously Rutger takes his role that makes it really unique and enjoyable.
This movie is great. I am glad that other people remember it. I remember it was released the same weekend or close to the same weekend as Lethal Weapon 3 and nobody saw it. It has the same feel as Dredd with Karl Urban or John Wick. All great movies.
I went to see this at the cinema when it came out (I was 18 at the time) and absolutely loved it, so much so that i bought the VHS! I rewatched it recently, and it really hasn't aged well at all, and parts of it don't make a lot of sense. A very unique and unusual movie.
I remember videoworld and a couple of other British magazines complaining that they wanted to enjoy SS more because it's British but they thought it was crap. Personally I love it, proper beer and crisps with your mates film. Still gets put on from time to time all these years later. The bloke dressed identically to Rutger Hauer in the club scene always amuses me.
My buddy and I wore out the VHS copy I had of this when were kids. It obviously has some real cheese at certain points, but the actors do pretty good jobs, and I thought the folks were brilliant who were responsible for making this look like a London in the near future headed towards dystopia and torrential flooding.
I expected the commentary to be amusing, but I am shocked that I actually learned a couple of things. Pointless things, to be sure, but things none the less. Also, I unapologetically love Split Second. I absolutely would have loved a Dick Durkin (named by Stan Lee?) sequel.
Both commentators are great but I saw this for the first time as a 12 yo in 1992 on vhs. From the get go and still today I find the title Split Second dead on
I'm quite a fan of Rutger Hauer saw Blade Runner and The Hitcher young and follow his career with Wanted: Dead or Alive and in the early nineties Wedlock, Past Midnight, Blind Side, Artic Blue and Surviving the Game, I dropped off about 1996. Oliver don't know if you have seen it but I recommended the movie Voyage with Rutger, Eric Roberts and Karen Allen, it is a kind of B Movie Dead Calm But it works.
God I love this film. I would have had Rutger sign this at a con by me before he had to cancel. I think he was filming Batman Begins. I love how 15 years after seeing this I would hear Alastair Duncan again but I wouldnt know it, as the Turian Councillor in Mass Effect. And now, of course, Mimir in God of War.
Funny this should pop up.. I rewatched this two nights ago. It has an odd tone, kind of misses the mark on it's humour, action and dialogue, but it grew on me as it went along. Even ol' Dick Dirkin gave me a few laughs eventually. There are some redeeming things, looked quite cool, Rutger is always a classic dude to watch, good semi dystopian future London, some solid supporting actors etc... I was more entertained by this than most of the new stuff I'm watching lately.
I watched this at 11 years old. Mum an dad were out during the day. The back of the VHS the monster looked like Venom from The Amazing Spider-Man comics. And I was like I need watch it. Got about 10 mins to the end then mum an dad came home an lost their minds. Never knew the ending until a few years later. I also watched Hellraiser when I was young. And was really disappointed they didn't show how he got pins in his head.
I bloody love Rutger Hauer. Devastated when he died. A very unique special, handsome and intelligent man.
All hail the king of pattern

I love that you're doing a commentary with the bad movie Bible. I just started watching his channel.
This was a VERY Cyyberpunk movie when that was all the rage. Love it

This makes me very happy

Oh, cool! I’m very excited for this one. This is a movie that I am very fond of and I don’t know many people who are aware of it.
I had this on VHS and watched it alot i now have it on digital because its the Rifftrax version

Actually the channel 4 show the word actually had a on set report and one of the presenters has a cameo in the police station
One of my favorite movies.
Kim catrall so hot in this film! ❤️
Very humorous all the way through l😂😂
Rutger hauer is always good.
Good evening to you
I really liked the atmosphere in this film. I need to give it a rewatch. Real oddity, that creature is.
I hope someday you are knighted. Sir Harper has a nice ring to it!
I think the one thing everybody missed about this movie that wasn't really spelled out very well is that the creature can turn into a rat.

Y'all so right this movie didn't make sense but Rutger and Neil was great
2 of my favorite channels together! Hope one day I can do a commentary with the both of ya
I'm dead
ah a new commentary and its Split Second andddd its with Rob Hill!!
My day is made.
Why is the guy's pronunciation of Rutger Hauer's name so weird?
Oliver you should review Who Dares Wins which was directed by Ian Sharp starring Lewis Collins. It has got a cult following in the UK.
Both commentators are great but I saw this for the first time as a 12 yo in 1992 on vhs. From the get go and still today I find the title Split Second dead on
I still love this movie. It's pretty terrible but I don't care. I too am living on coffee, anxiety and chocolate (also booze) 💪
"You quit drinking, good for you."
Huzzah! More Bad Movie Bible is more than the welcome. The guy is a legend.

I saw this on the big screen in the UK, mainly because Rutger was in it and....yeah... it was the cinema's smallest screen.

Blind Fury next 😆

Excuse me Oliver, but how have you not done Point Break yet?!
This film is a classic and I always see the game shadow run in this film
I watched this film for the first time about a month ago... It is... A bizarre film, at the very least.
Good film..!
Good movie
I actually like this movie a lot. But then again, I tend to like a lot of movies people hate. Lucky me, eh?
I enjoyed the movie.
This is such a fun flick! I would give this movie a 7/10.
I always conflated this movie with Blind Fury
Truly an awful film, and all the more enjoyable for it.
Anyone actually own this movie? lol
Yeah! Everyone should
Yeah, 2 copies. Both the 101 Films releases.
So weird I watched this first time just a few weeks ago.
