I know this is an old video but just thought I'd mention that several times you're saying 'this one' but the video is showing b-roll of other things and we don't know which one 'this' one is :)
@The Sacrosanct I spent months looking at everything rtr and trx4 was better in everything turning ratio no flex in chassis best rtr shocks in the business decent tires bullet proof gears and drivetrain parts available everywhere
Excellent review. Covered all of the important details, gave careful consideration each time, conducted real-world tests when appropriate, very thorough and detailed, and thankfully no annoying music (which ruins so many videos). Well done sir! Well done indeed.
Redcat got me into rock crawling...back when the only real options were the $300 axial ax10, I bought the redcat RS10. It wasn't a scale truck, but had a simple frame, very trick 4 wheel steering and MOA axles. It could out-crawl any $300+ scale truck, especially after a few free mods. The RS10xt is still under $200 today and is a good option for anyone wanted to rock crawl on a budget.
Absolutely superb video. I am just about to buy my first crawler kit, and this video has everything I wanted to know in one place. Traxxas it is then. Thanks for the effort in doing this. it's people like you that make youtube brilliant. Not the corporate crap. I hope they are good to you!
Same here I've been following the Scale RC game for a while and I'm ready to buy my first crawler without breaking the bank lol I narrowed it down to these 2 and this video broke it down really good, I'm goin with the TRX 4 sport
Thanks for the comparison review for a returning beginner. I was considering both of these for a hardbody trail truck project that will probably make both pretty heavy. The Traxxas is the better climber but the Redcat is close. I consider the Scout body and mounting a bonus. Redcat for my project.
Awesome video. I was in the market for my first scaler recently and it was between these two. Ultimately the silver bits on the gen 8 started to bug me and that was the MAIN reason I leaned towards the TRX4. Silly reason but it is what is. Glad to see I picked the more capable rig out of the box.
I fixed the steering radius issue and the jerky throttle modulation of the Gen 8!!! I have a video to be released later. Anybody know what it is? The great news is the Gen 8 is capable of very tight radius turns. Also, it can throttle modulate very well with that motor and esc stock.
Hope it wasn't the trims, don't know how many times that has bitten us in my group. But I could guess maybe a longer servo horn to get more throw and for the throttle, maybe pinion spur mesh.
@@TerraQuestRC Nope, but related. Out of the box, the steering exponential adjust was absolutely maxed out and that was a clue. Putting a longer servo horn would have put that steering arm even farther away with a steeper angle.
Just after a month of use, my trx4 broke the front diff locking servo, then the rear one, a few days later the damn esc was fried so i sell the car and purchased the sport version. Guess what? two weeks and the esc died... Purchasde a gen 8 several months ago: Not a single failure since then and i'm not gentle with it. Bad luck? Maybe but i will not have any other traxxas crawler, never again. Thanks for those vids, sir, i love them.
Went with the Gen 8 because of the body. Modded to the gills now.... very happy with it! Next truck will be a TRX4 Bronco or Blazer to bash a bit with the 2 speeds.
Redcat has really stepped up their game these past few years, I used to be a Traxxas guy but now all I run is Redcat RC's , Repair costs on Redcat is so much lower
@Wubu Mini Farm The few rc friends i had owned redcats. They no longer rc because it was non stop breakage and upgrades were just not there. The gen 8 broke input gears non stop,Trans gears,ESC cooked in 6 inches of water and they probably sent him 20 replacement parts before the warranty ran out.I kind of wish they would have went with traxxas or axial then i wouldn't be rc'ing solo
@@Fiaudiodude I don't know what your friends were doing with their Gen 8s. Ive have mine since it came out , and in over a year with heavy use, Ive only had to replace 3 things. One of the 3 things were totally my fault btw. In addition , Ive done many opitional upgrades and love it! my Gen 8 has been good to me. Ive talked to a coupe other gen 8 owner and they both love it. maybe your friends were bashng the crap out of it. Who knows.
I have two Redcat Gen 8s a TRX4 Bronco a TRX6, and my most recent purchase for myself was the TRX4 Sport. My Traxxas trucks break far less parts, have a higher build quality, larger after market for parts, and outperform my Redcats. Started with a Gen 8 Axe edition and have had a lot of downtime with it. Some things like having to Dremel out cross-threaded drive shaft grub screws, poor steering geometry, and clattery drivetrain and vulnerable servo steering arm and servo made me look elsewhere. The less stuff they break the more time we get to spend on the trail together. And that's what I value most at the end of the day.
ChraftShaft I managed to get the pack on sale b4 Christmas and overall I have around 260$ in my gen8 plus all the piece mail electronics. Haven’t put it together yet but I have a 35t motor I’m gonna throw in it. The stock 17t motor is too fast for my taste. Plus I got to choose my own body which is always nice.
@@RCReviewChannel Great suggestion, I always love vintage looking truck! This is why I suddenly interested in Gen8, but the center underneath bump... (facepalm)... TRX-4 Sport with changed body way to go!
Thought for the day? I do wonder how many people knocking the redcat have driven both? Or even seen the redcat gen 8 in the flesh? I'll give it a fair test before modifying it, my trial run around the yard in the wet? Tires seemed to slip a lot more than I'd like, but that's an easy change. One thing to note about climbing performance, the redcat has a 17T motor and the Traxxas a 21T motor so the Traxxas will have more torque. I've a spare axial 35T motor on the side? Should I put that in guys? With better tires and motor I can see the redcats weight distribution coming in to play.
I am still waiting for my Redcat Gen8 to be delivered. But I have 2 Traxxas TRX-4s and upgraded those to a Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 27T motor. That sure helped with the performance. I think if you change the motor of the Redcat Gen8 for a 550 motor, something like 21T or 27T that will be a very good upgrade. And get it engine and specs wise to the same level as the TRX-4.
Great video, very interesting, though I think a more fair comparison would be against other budget brand entry level crawlers. The trx4 sport is only down to near-budget price because of its throwaway body, stripped features and zero extras. The gen 8 is basically a 200 dollar rtr with a 100 dollar body. The tr4 is a 300+ dollar rtr with a cheap body.
Seems a fair comparison supported with real world runs. On the one hand the Redcat Gen8 does look so much more especially for the money but the Traxxas has had a substantial headstart that Redcat will have to put the time in to prove it's worth. All in all a win for us the consumers!
Like your comparison, spot on. I trust your judgement because you crawl with the guys and gals in the Bay Area😉. Both have their strong points but I like the challengers style. Don't sleep on the Underdog👊
😃👍Nice comparison. I have both and been running the gen 8 in the same spots as I do my TRX4 and I found the only thing better on the gen 8 is the body looks better and the servo is a bit more powerful and that's it everything else about the trx4 is better. no faults about the trx4 it's made right and goes anyplace better than the gen 8, the gen 8 is a cool rig though but not in the same category as the trx4. A trx4 is a Swiss watch and the gen 8 is just a normal watch.
I thing the Gen 8 is more aimed at entry level beginners. It also is aimed some what more to the "scale" detail oriented guys at a bargin price. With the divorced transfer case and front mount motor you can easily get a full scale interior in to the truck without amputating your driver figures. Also the scale exterior details really are top notch. On the steering angle issue it is improved with a better servo. My buddies TRX4 Denfender and my new Gen 8 both using the same 20kg all metal servo (both upgraded $18 USD on Amazon) with aluminum horn have nearly identical turning radius. Both trucks benefited from the better servo, but I have not measured the actual Gen 8 steering angle degree but my guess is still not a full 47*. The memory foam is great in spring/summer/fall Phoenix AZ (Home office of Redcat) but I always switch to 2 stage foams. To protect my front steering horn on the Gen 8 I added an aftermarket TRX4 front skid (looks good too!). The Gen 8 receiver is water proof so the box does not need to be. Bottom line for competition or all performance the TRX4 is the way to go. For details, looks, bargin, and performance better than anything you could get 3 or more years ago (RTR) the Gen 8 is what the doctor ordered. In these types of reviews I don't think people remember just how far scale crawlers have come in the time from when the first Axial SCX10 came out. The Gen 7 is close relative to the SCX10 (design wise) and is blast to drive, and these 2 newer trucks are miles ahead design wise over the Gen 7. It really is a great time to be in RC crawling and I think it will still get a lot better in the next 5 years.
nice review. I still feel that redcat just isn't on that level yet. Traxxas or Axial for me but no redcat. but that's just my opinion and what i feel comfortable with when spending my cash
I agree to a point. Traxxas bashers all day. Axial crawlers all day. Traxxas crawlers not as solid as axial to me and scale. Redcat is in the right direction if they keep the price down . if redcat brings a 400$ crawler after this gen 8 I'm gonna lose my mind .
@@stinky3shoes491 lol.. I mentioned the $400 in another channel. Think that will be right there stepping on Vanquish's toes. btw, for my group.. maybe driving style or the areas we go, the Axial's need upgrades to keep up with the TRX's in the durability department. Sometimes that flexy Axial plastic don't cut it when in a bind and just flex flex flex without progression. Don't get me wrong, after spending $2k on my Wraith.. none of my group can keep up with it. But you can't win if you can't cross the finish line, which the Wraith has failed to do twice out of about 12 runs.
@@stinky3shoes491 lol.. didn't run the bill till I was done. Never would have thought you could spend that much into a rig.. check the video description for the parts. ua-cam.com/video/l7L5_K0Ivwk/v-deo.html
I have to tell ya I have a gen 8 scout 2 I run all factory and I have a way smaller turning radius then your video shows my throttle is a lot smoother then you described and I personally would put mine against a traxxas 4 sport any day. That is the reason. I did not get a traxxas I have friends who run them and personally drove them etc. Now mine is also brand new so I suppose there is a possibility that redcat changed a lot since the video was made but
taking into consideration the redcat comes out the box with a battery and charger and the Traxxas does not, do you think the choice would be best for my 1st crawler? Also, witch one goes faster on flat terrain?
The Redcat Gen 7 comes with battery and charger and is no a good purchase. The TRX4 is a little faster on flat terrain and is the best purchase. Make sure you get an 11.1 volt lipo battery for the best speed.
Hi,, is it possible to just add some of those weights sold at tire shops to the chassis. Isn't this will lower the whole chassis which is not good for crawling? it would be cool if you make a video about easy ways of adding weights to the chassis or wheels without removing the tires.
Absolutely. Those are the best bang for the buck. Put them on as low and as forward as possible. We like putting those inside the tires a wheel, taped to the inside of the wheel.
I know its not scale but i have owned my redcat everest 10. And have not replaced or broken a thing. I crawl it everyday too. I do know alot of people replace parts with the scx10 for a more scale crawler. Great review!
The TRX4 is a lot more robust and dependable right out of the box. The drivetrain can withstand a lot of abuse and overpowering. The Redcat Gen8 can not at this point.
Why don't you compare the AXE Edition to the trx4 range? Or maybe upgrade the gen8 basic to be similar price to the trx4 and then compare? Don't spend 200 less on something and expect it to perform the same on the same level.
Without knowing any of this, I was fortunate enough to receive a Sport as a gift from one Rc guy to the next. This review was thorough and enjoyable. Appreciate you taking the time to do such a great comparison overview. Thx alot✌
I know my previous comments about the Redcat Scout II may make it seem like I believe its the better between the TRX-4 (pick your version) and that I don't like the TRX-4. But I will point out that I have 5 TRX-4's, and don't consider myself a Traxxas fanboy. Just give me a rig that can perform nearly or better for less money, without having to do a bunch of upgrades and aesthetic add ons, then count me in. I don't have a single rig out of my 21, and the Scout will make 22, that I haven't had to modify to make it stronger (durability), faster or better performing. Thus far, it is the Axial Wraith, Yeti, and SCX10 II that have cost me the most to get to the performance and looks that I am happy with. I am sure my wallet is going to open for the Redcat Scout II as well. I found your current comparison to be fair and of no surprise. There is a small flaw to your turning test, very small, but the Scout II does have a slightly longer wheelbase, so even if the steering angles were identical with the same tires and foams, the Scout will still have the larger turning radius. As for recommending one over the other it is still going to come down to what it will be used for (terrain and speed), what is the degree of modification your willing to do with current and future parts. So far I can't say that you can go wrong with a Scout II for beginning in the hobby or just letting your own creativity rule in making it a top performer and looking good in the process.
Very good insight as I thought the same thing. So the TRX4 Sport is 12.3" and the Gen 8 is 12.5" wheelbase. Wheelbase matters a little bit with these differences but not that much. Maybe an inch or two in diameter? I have a TRX4 Defender which is 12.8", fully locked diffs. The steering radius is quite a bit smaller than the Gen 8 as well.
Terra Quest RC bro I do go out very regularly for crawling and all of us are always so engrossed in crawling that. I one bothers to make the video. The only video I have up on my so called channel is just a random day when one of the guy broke his car before we even started so he decided to film us and then I edited 😂 thanks a lot for your support. I’m really looking forward to making videos and getting stuff on UA-cam. Thank you for your support 🙏🏻👍🏻
Coming from someone who has owned a Gen 7 and a Gen 8 PACK and now a TRX4. The TRX4 is hands down the best. It's does everything very well not perfect at anything and not horrible at anything. It's a very neutral yet solid truck for the price.
The Redcat is completely waterproof including the receiver. The electronics are the same as the Gen 7 and we float em down the creek all the time. The box is probably a dust/mud kind of thing, but I'd pull it or put a drain hole or two in the bottom. Nice job on the review! ;)
Good to know. This receiver will probably upgraded though since this radio is holding back steering and making throttle response hard to modulate Would have been good to get a sealed box
Huh, It's the Flysky GT2B with EPAs and trim adjustments. While not great as far as radios go, one of the better RTR setups out there and more than adequate for a 2 channel crawler and much better than the TQi in the experience of most.
The stock tires were not that good on low traction stuff. 0 for 7 on the steepest loose climbs. With the TRX4 Canyon trail tires, the Redcat cleared 2 more of these tough ones. With the body off, maybe 4?
I watched this video a couple of times, along with many others, prior to making my choice and eventually went with the Redcat Gen 8. The primary reason being the scale looks of the Scout II. The issues with the Redcat are fairly negligible compared to the toyish/plastic look of the TRX4 Sport - plus the body posts - yuck! I would have to have invested another $100 to get to the level of aesthetics of the Gen 8, I wanted something that is fun to watch crawl around because it looks scale. I also like the metal parts of the Redcat, they look nice, are functional enough for my needs, and thus far have proven to be reliable. Thank you for the outstanding videos man - fun stuff.
Great decision man. I think that is exactly why we would recommend the Gen8. It just looks better and folks who value that will have a greater experience. Both are two of the market leaders right now.
@@RCReviewChannel Thanks man, I really enjoyed your videos on upgrades and setting up the Gen 8 with an interior/scale features - those were the videos that put me over the fence and into a Redcat. I appreciate your work.
Great review. Gen 8 upgrades are available now and more coming soon. All upgrades are listed on their site. I think the first thing people do is upgrades, servo, tires, portel covers, c hubs, axle housings and so forth. The link mounts and transfer case hump is an easy fix. I feel end result is that Redcat has a great start and I am excited to build on something different than the norm. Also, I would like to see you do a review on the RGT 86100 Jeep. It comes out of the box at around $270.00 fully waterproofed and from what I have seen appears to climb with the best of them.
That's very encouraging. The key is to get upgrades from the established third-party companies. We love that they're releasing 3d print files for free! 4 different authentic scale grills that can be 3d printed by anyone for example. Perfect fit.
RCReview agreed, third party companies are key but the aluminum upgrades now available and the soon coming additional aluminum upgrades are a great step to get the ball rolling. I feel the Gen 8 will breath a much needed light to a mostly stagnant base of parts that really haven’t changed for some time due to these trucks that have been out for awhile now. I see all of the third party companies jumping aboard due to the fact they have a chance to capitalize on the Gen 8 and its ability to increase their product line. I am excited to see crawling grow and it can not if we only stick with the same old same old. I believe Redcat has done a great job by pushing the bar. This is good especially from a company that has basically been crap for a long time.
I felt the review was very honest given that Traxxas TRX4 Sport has been around much longer along wit the loads of aftermarket upgrades, it’s a much more reliable rig but with that Said I love the Gen 8 platform, it can be a really cool project for the avid hobbyist to find solutions to the downsides you’ve pointed out. It could be a trail truck as is or it can serve as a rock machine with some minor improvements one suggestion is to maybe equip it with a stinger style bumper, add a front skid plate to kinda help with climbing steep inclines and probably put some 2.2’s on it to give it a little more ground clearance but I’m not sure if it can accept bigger tires due to the fixed wheel wells or maybe trying some longer shocks to help raise the chassis but all and all it can work out if you just give it a little TLC. If outfitted properly it can be a cool trail truck or maybe a camper with roof rack LED light bar and whatever the avid hobbyist chooses to do with it. I’d love to see one dressed up and out on the trail. Thanks for the vid and in-depth analyst for both trucks as always good job man.
Right on, you get exactly what we are saying. These are two of the best vehicles now. Great for project cars too. Did you see our fabulous Topless Gen 8? ua-cam.com/video/Bt4THQEnpfI/v-deo.html
I definitely consider the TRX4 as a trail rig. The Gen 7 was straight away a rock crawler. The battery location directly over the front axle keeping weight low and up front made climbing steep walls and rocks amazing! No belly bump either!
Maybe Redcat didn't waterproof the receiver box, because Traxxas would sue them if they did. Yes, somehow Traxxas patented a waterproof receiver box... Anyway, great video!
so what if Traxxas did patent "their receiver box".. its amazing how many never checked out the full details of what the lawsuit was about. I say go ahead and patent your design, it doesn't hurt the community. It forces other companies to come up with better designs in the end.
@@TerraQuestRC I actually don't have much of a problem with Traxxas. (I own 2 TRX-4s) The patent office on the other hand... (mostly a software rant in this case...)
My kids old hpi wheely king has a waterproof hpi receiver box. It's actually better design than many traxxas boxes. You can see if the gasket is correctly placed. I sometimes find sand grains in my traxxas boxes. Not in the hpi one. Cable intake is on the underside on the hpi box. I use traxxas reciver box on rustler, slash and scx10.
Thanks for this comparison video. i would also like to thank you for not being bias during the testing. I could not tell if you liked one over the other. Great job. TRX-4 is very hard to beat. 👍🏻👍🏻
That is our point. There too many reviewers around that just love one brand or love everything. Or say everything is personal preference. Objective knowledge and testing first, then preference kicks in at the end to decide. :)
Hey maybe you could please answer a question for me, I have 2 TRX 4s but not the sport. Is the sport geared and just as fast as as the others when in high gear or is it somewhere in the middle between high and low? Thanks Love your vids!
Traxxas geared the Sport in the middle between the high and low gear. Easy to overcome the difference with pinion/spur change and 2s to 3s. Of course if you put 3s in the 2 speed it will outrun the Sport again. But if going against a stock TRX 4 Defender, Bronco, Tactical, or Kit.. a modified Sport will outrun them.
I love your videos. Very thought out and technical. Exactly the kind of RC channel I have been looking for. Amazing work, keep it up. I just subscribed.
I did find the only thing i didnt like about my redcat was the steering, i turns very hard right but it’s noticeably wider on a left turn waitin to get a new servo when this one goes to try an upgrade!
For the waterproofing the redcat has a conformal coating on the receiver so water won’t damage it. It is better to drill a hole in the bottom to let the water flow freely and just take it out and let it dry later.
I noticed the TRX4 has better low gearing for rock crawling and locking diff for extra assistance. It's also way quieter. Sharper steering as well. The body choices are all my choices. Land Rover Defender, Classic Ford Bronco. That generic looking pickup is nothing I would even look at.
Darn! I was sooo rooting for the Scout for the win. I LOVE the looks but yeah looks don't get ya home. BUT, there's always upgrades and McGivering to be done! lol I love McGivering!! Love your channel btw. great info and a joy to watch.
The Scout II in my opinion is way far better.... The reason why I say that is because it is 😂 so cool looking..... So legit .....looks like the real thing...
After watching your videos I decided to get an Axe Edition Gen 8 and love it. But now my oldest son wants his own big boy RC and I'm finding myself torn between the TRX4 Sport or the normal Gen 8
@@RCReviewChannel too late. I got a TRX4 Bronco for him 🤣 He loves the transmission and selectable lockers. He is so excited he made his own "UA-cam video" and told me all about the features of it. Well worth the extra scratch and now I'm jealous because it'd much more fun than my Gen 8 Axe Edition
Should have listened. Got the Axe, another Gen 8, a TRX Bronco and the TRX6. I recommend the Sport to my friends because it's the best bang for the buck.
Ya my buddy has the gen 8 I have the trx4 and he's only had it a month or two and put a 12 turn traxxas motor in it when the stock burned up but it was too much for the plastic transfer case gears=[ otherwise it's an awesome truck and the suspension is nice and the tires grip dam good that it yanked my trx4 all around in mud lol. Love the vids!! Ur always dead on brother! =] love the passion love the hobbie always have and always will!=] try to keep all four on the floor brother!!
I think Axial and Valerra need to up their game, it seems portals axles are the new in thing although not very scale, but front mounted motors and transfer case add more scale realism and allow for full interiors and these vehicles are sold as scale trail trucks, Traxxas, Hpi, Redcat and even Gmade all do front motors.
Thanks for breaking it down for us man. It's so freaking annoying that they have Zero foresight and put that HUGE hump in the skid... and a guys gotta spend 30-40 more bucks on the Bowhouse skid just to be on par with Any other Manufacturer.... Shame on Redcat for fibbing on the Specs too - Steering Degrees dont count if it it cant move maxed out... All the extras don't make up for inadequacy. Gotta Love that Body though!
SOO HAPPY I WENT WITH THE (TRAXXAS TRX4 SPORT!) INSTED OF GETTING ****ANOUTHER* AXIAL SCX10,,,,,, BUT IM SOOO HAPPY WITH THE TRX4,,,,(CRAWLS LIKE IT ALREADY HAS UPGRADES,,,THE PARTS ARE VERY DECENT QUALITY,,,,,I LOVE IT!!!!! JUST NEED THE LIFTKIT;) AND ILL BE GOOD;)

Great video. I got bored with my Sport. Now I'm in the market for a new trail/crawler. Not sure what to get. I've been looking at the Gen 8, the HPI Venture Scale Builders Kit and the Vaterra Ascender. Although, my Tamiya CC01 has been seeing more trail time. I forgot how fun it was to drive.
KodeKraft RC just got a hpi and I’m super happy with it I’ve also had a scx10 honcho and scx10 Jeep Wrangler and overall if I had to pick just one of them it would be the hpi. Very clean looking and smooth with all tough parts and gears. Only changed tires to 1.9 fuel grippers and aluminum wheels and a high torque servo and its awesome
I have the trx bronco and the vanterra bronco both great i do like that scott might have to get one traxxas and redcat are the best i have alot of both love the detail
Thanks for helping me confirn my deccision! Trx4 it is . I have the redcat everest 10 its very capable . Im just looking for a more scale car . Traxxas seems to be better out of the box
I am both trucks and one thing I do disagree with is the tires. The stock Gen 8 tires Are much better in my opinion. They work better in dirt they work better on rocks most importantly they look better and they are bead locks. While Traxxas has a glue on wheel which is not very impressive. And the memory foam works well just got a break it in.
@@RCReviewChannel I'm flabbergasted, It's a few dollars to produce at most. Just like the overpriced metal wheels, and 1.55s are even more expensive than 1.9s! I mean, for what they cost to make, they should be $20 a set for the cast/stamped steel, and maybe up to $40 for the CNC'd anodized alloys with lots of screws. I don't know what's more ridiculous; that 1.55 steelies are more than 1.9 or 2.2 alloys (even straight from china), or that people are actually paying that much (if they weren't the chinese lower their prices, and paint and lead weights are much cheaper). A set of wheels and tires can easily cost you half a truck, or as much as a real wheel or tire. This hobby is getting as expensive as a real life cheap ol' trail rig, and not as much is available used for cheap. I get that us 90s kids are at an age now where we can afford these things, and some companies are right to offer high-end items to cater to us, but this aftermarket is just taking advantage, and I'd hate to be a kid trying to save up for hop-ups. Thanks to brands like Redcat, ECX, and WPL for keeping the entry to the hobby affordable at least.

@@RCReviewChannel good that it wasn't a servo horn swap, figured that would not have been preferential.
Thanks for the video! I changed my mind from getting a Gen8 and just purchased a lightly used TRX-4 Sport.
You will not be disappointed.
I run Traxxas and Redcat, but I like how Redcats are newer and not everyone has one.....yet lol.
Yeah but redcat sucks ass it break faster and are pure garbage
I just bought the Redcat Gen 8 for $259 free shipping on Amazon. Great bang for my buck! I like being the underdog, especially when I save $$$. Haha.
@panzer Ken and if you spend some on upgrades you may have the winner.

@Bill Perri you still haven't contacted me over the 12k subs prize you won!!!!
I have a red cat gen 8 it is really good
Same
Great video, very interesting, though I think a more fair comparison would be against other budget brand entry level crawlers. The trx4 sport is only down to near-budget price because of its throwaway body, stripped features and zero extras. The gen 8 is basically a 200 dollar rtr with a 100 dollar body. The tr4 is a 300+ dollar rtr with a cheap body.
How I see it - the TRX4 sport is the benchmark and that's obviously who redcat is going after.
Have you reviewed any 1/18th scale crawlers?
Would love to see some of those comparisons as they're not as popular.
So fit the gen 8 shell to a TRX 4 sport, job done.
Seems a fair comparison supported with real world runs. On the one hand the Redcat Gen8 does look so much more especially for the money but the Traxxas has had a substantial headstart that Redcat will have to put the time in to prove it's worth. All in all a win for us the consumers!
Exactly our takeaway. We now have a contender that is a noticeably better value. Good for us consumers and will change the category for the better.
A trx4 is a Swiss watch and the gen 8 is just a normal watch.
absoluely agreed.
Hey Shen, both watches do the same thing....they keep time.
What should I get trx4 Bronco or the sport
I think the Gen8 is better for the price ,, pluss I can 3D print parts free from Redcat
nice review.
But you can't win if you can't cross the finish line, which the Wraith has failed to do twice out of about 12 runs.

hello i wanna ask this redcat gen8 is good crawler for rocks and for snow and mud ?
RC Review oh! I was sure the gen 8 also came with a battery!
Thanks for the info!!
Why don't you compare the trx-4 blazer or bronco with the scout ? They are the same size .
I have both of these and they are both awesome at crawling.
RC Review Thanks alot.
So top speed for the TRX4 is only 8MPH?
Yes, for the Sport which has no 2-speed transmission. It's around there with stock gearing
@@RCReviewChannel I need something faster than that.
Very good information. Why is the speech audio in your videos so quiet??
I know its not scale but i have owned my redcat everest 10. And have not replaced or broken a thing. I crawl it everyday too. I do know alot of people replace parts with the scx10 for a more scale crawler. Great review!
can you make a comparison between absima sherpa and traxxas trx4. I would be very interesstet.
I’ve been watching a lot of your trx4 videos! I enjoy all the details you throw in! Your funny too! Thank You! Building a sport right now!
Really appreciate it.
I don't know which one to buy which one is more dependable and less maintenance love your Channel and all your information thank you
The TRX4 is a lot more robust and dependable right out of the box. The drivetrain can withstand a lot of abuse and overpowering. The Redcat Gen8 can not at this point.
Where is this parking lot that you crawl at located?
My Redcat Racing Gen 8 came with grease in all the gears I checked to portals gears and the diff gears they looked good to me
Why don't you compare the AXE Edition to the trx4 range?
Or maybe upgrade the gen8 basic to be similar price to the trx4 and then compare?
Don't spend 200 less on something and expect it to perform the same on the same level.
200 less? They're 40 bux apart.
Really in-depth review. The steering! Man I’m going to share this on our group page

Hi, what group page do you have?
Without knowing any of this, I was fortunate enough to receive a Sport as a gift from one Rc guy to the next. This review was thorough and enjoyable. Appreciate you taking the time to do such a great comparison overview. Thx alot✌
Congrats on your views as well that's a feat in itself
Right on bud. The Sport is a gem. Usually the lowest cost model in the line is the entry level. In this case, it is the best performer as well.
Jahmen RC Building a One I think I need some new friends Ike you lol
Why is the blue one leaning to the passenger side? Nice video! Thanks
Right on. The Gen 8 Scout II gets our seal of approval for price, performance and oh so attractive!!
Terra Quest RC subscribed to you for your smart brain!!
@@adnanbaigmirza thanks, and back to you.. now quit watching everyone else and go make an adventure, been awhile since you posted a vid.
This receiver will probably upgraded though since this radio is holding back steering and making throttle response hard to modulate
Good to know. This receiver will probably upgraded though since this radio is holding back steering and making throttle response hard to modulate
Would have been good to get a sealed box
Huh, It's the Flysky GT2B with EPAs and trim adjustments. While not great as far as radios go, one of the better RTR setups out there and more than adequate for a 2 channel crawler and much better than the TQi in the experience of most.
Which of these 2 would be the best start to build to run on wetlands as I have 3/4 ac of wetlands
TRX4 for sure. So bulletproof and waterproof.
One of the best reviews i've ever seen 👍👍
Thank you!,,
I noticed you have TRX4 tires on the Redcat….How much closer was the performace with the matching tires??
The stock tires were not that good on low traction stuff. 0 for 7 on the steepest loose climbs. With the TRX4 Canyon trail tires, the Redcat cleared 2 more of these tough ones. With the body off, maybe 4?
Where can I find the Traxxas at that price?
Loved the honest and thorough review so much, I subscribed. Thanks for the unbiased review..😊
TRX-4 “the gold standard”! Can’t wait to unbox my sport! Great video!
By the way I have neither of these trucks. Just want to see which is best really with same tires.
Why all the fuss over these new 1.9 thingys? My wraith with rear steer would destroy all of them. They do look cool, though...maybe I'll get one
they look good scaling walls :)
Do you recommend redcat Gen8?
Reaction hobbies center has aluminum upgrades in stock with more being added soon for the Gen 8
It’s funny how they have a patent on waterproof servos and didn’t put one in.
donald ellis ahh yes traxxas did out one in it mostly All their rcs are waterproof .
@@TerraQuestRC I figured they did that thanks man!

A little bit. It's best done after hours and be discrete.

Both are great , comes down to which one you think looks better
Scout definitely looks better. But the TRX-4 performs better and is much more durable.
How do these not roll over easy, are they weighted in the center
Good center of gravity balance and very slow driving. :)
@@RCReviewChannel here i am six months later watching your video again, still havnt decided what to get lol. Almost, life just got too busy.
The TRX4’s light pickup body and simplified engineering is the secret sauce over the Bronco, Blazer and Defender. Gives up looks for performance.
Don’t forget, your review was a winner! Thanks! 👍

Most definitely. If a new platform was introduced today and it didn't have portals, it would be rough going.

really nice truck😍, I hope you send me one of them even the used one no problem✌😀, you are generous and I deserve😉 I really like your channel and the way you review things, and of course your personality🙂, very well review & info that you give us solves a lot of questions that came or not yet in mind, useful things that helps with the rc hobby👍
I really like your reviews, your are "no bullshit" type of fellow that I appreciate. Thanks for your work and blunt honesty.
There's good and bad in every product so we try to find a balance. Blind loyalty, common in this industry is not good.
Great vid bro, love my sport, getting ready to scale her out. Your content is great, good work, take care ,out 😎😁👍
really appreciate it.
Cc01 is a great challenging rig depending on how you have it set up, would be amazing if tamiya made a slightly larger and updated cc01ii
@@JK-qv8sv Yeah I'd buy one
Was seel the sport?
@@paulcherry1520 What?
Since when is a plain lexan body $40? Paint and stickers?
That's before paint! They charge too much indeed. traxxas.com/products/parts/8111
Very awesome comprehensive review! Great job!
This was a hard one. So much we wanted to say and hard to package it. Glad it turned out ok
