It shows how far the brand has come, and all power to them for that. I bought my first of there kit in 2010 and they have kept developing and innovating to get to this standard. Top drills👍
Got mine today, it has some nice design features. Have to see how I go on with those pit-zips, I've tested mesh-lined pit-zips in the past, and they didn't allow adequate air-flow. Of course, the mesh also stops you reaching pit-zips on garments underneath. I'm hoping the chest pockets get easier to open, because currently they're a struggle.
Don't own one yet but really looking forward to getting one but the only feature I might dislike about this jacket is the velcro/mesh on the back of the hood. I leads me to believe that water will leak through it. I understand the intentions but I feel like it's not a necessary feature.
Looks like a really useful lightweight jacket. Look forward to seeing how it performs in the wild. Helikon Tex make quality gear, I've got their poncho which is awesome. Thanks for filming guys, Andy
Cheers for the review, will prob get one. Have been using a swagman roll for a year. Tried sleeping in its sleeping bag mode at 5c and was too cold. Will be good for summer nights tho and useful as a liner. Minor issue, the head poncho hole is a little tight so have to remove hats / goggles before wearing. Awesome tho and very flexible. Def recommend it.
@Mater Disciplina Hey, I have an Observer Plus from eBay. Very expensive and quite heavy but really like it for stealth camping. Has more space than other similar bivys like the Alpkit version and better made. The side zip is great too. Downside is it weighs as much as a ultralight tent (esp if you use a tarp too) so wouldn't use for normal lightweight backpacking trips.
Yep, fancy one of these! A few questions though - is the fabric 'noisy' or low rustle like a typical canvas? Plus the jacket seems roomy, so is it still comfortable over a fleece? Cheers mate!
Hi I have the woodsman anorak and generally really like it. I find the one let down is that it isn't windproof, I'm guessing the Pilgrim is pretty much the same being the same fabric?
what sort of wax do you need for these jackets, Fjalraven wax is very pricey, so is there something else i can use, or does it need to be a specialist wax for polycotton?.
check out the nikwax cotton wash repellent av been using that on ma fjallraven g1000 gear and its sound... saves the faffin about rubbing the wax n melting into fabric shit.... wash ur gear a cple a times with the nikwax cotton proof swag and if u really want you can rub wax into it aswell..
“Rainy - Scotland “- wee piss from heaven......... I have some Helikon stuff in my wee opinion they are not desig at all for Scotland outdoor conditions and waxing them is a just stupid idea. They should laminate gore Tex and made one option available if you need jacket for wet areas. Good review lad
abazdarhon - gore-tex is a scam. I like the idea of adding wax to the places I need it, shoulders, hood, pocket flaps. It will be a lot lighter without Gore-Tex, and actually be breathable.
Tactical Ant I have few arcteryx jackets with gore- Tex as well motorbike gloves and motorbike suit from Klim with Gore-Tex and never been wet in pissing down day both in outdoor exploring or driving motorbike. Another plus from gore-Tex - it is breathable so no only you are dry from rain but while walking your body moisture is kick out. I don’t know what experience you had with gore-Tex laminate but I presume Non. Wax is good for females for they body wax not to put on jacket....
abazdarhon - it is physically impossible for vapor created by the body to exit out the pores of Gore-Tex membrane when the outer part of garment is wet. Your experience may have been due to your body not producing much vapor or it was all vented out the openings of the glove or jacket. My experience has been with Gore-Tex boots, and my feet getting wet from sweat because it wont breathe. Also with Gore-Tex jackets in the rain while working/ physically exerting myself and getting soaking wet inside from sweat, its no different than wearing a plastic bag. I think it’s especially noticeable with boots because the salts from your feet will quickly clog any of the membranes ability to breathe. Also, the boots are the first thing to get wet. Again, If the leather is wet, there is no possible way for the vapor to move through the membrane (due to 2nd law of thermodynamics), at minimum it would require a pressurized system.
@@tacticalant3841 YES! Gore Tex is someting for the Major City ... but those marketing storys will fail everywhere else - in Shoes, in the Woods and so on :-)
I’ve had mine for a year and have been very happy with it. I’m slowly switching out my Fjallraven kit for Helikon-Tex.

@Mater Disciplina Hi Mater, TBH never tried it. I prefer breathable waterproof bivy bags made from event or goretex.

I was hoping the Pilgrim is wind proof.

you can make Fjalraven wax out of beeswax and paraffin wax for a fraction of the price
Sorry if you told it yet, but what size is yours? Me 178cm / 110kg. Would XL fit me?
great review!!! thx
I'm about to order one but I need to know how it performs in regards to raining. Is it waterproof ? Or at least does it dry fast?
Not waterproof but can be waxed and does dry out very fast
