      @@gendor5199 I mean if you are blackmailing a girl into dating you then you deserve it. Also I don't think women who just string guys along for free dinner are too common an occurrence. 90% of the time a girl is 'stringing a guy along' she was just polite, he thinks she's flirting and will act like a knight and insist on paying for her lunch, etc.

    I think fairy tales get retold and thus various version crop up. Do you recall how much the "Juniper Tree" story had resemblance to Snow White? I bet the two stories came from the same source.
    But instead of being about a bitchy and jealous a goddess can be, this story is one of how the Psyche-expy is intelligent in dodging the suitors trying to blackmail her into their beds without totally destroying them (she didn't just Death Note them, just embarrassed them and did eventually pay them back the money she got out of them) and still being able to remain loyal to her bird-husband. It's the usual morality tale fairy tales are, yet it does it in a smart way, depicting a woman being a "Good Woman" and also being a smart woman.

      @MonarchsFactory  7 років тому +1

    4 self entitled jerks treat a woman like crap. Well I guess Bird boy did give her the feathers, but that's seven years of her life down the drain over a spot of curiosity. The only man in this story who is remotely likeable is the master of the house, and he apparently BEATS HIS SERVENTS!

    • @Madhattersinjeans
      @Madhattersinjeans 6 років тому

      Beating bad servants was kinda the norm back in ye olden day.
      In fact I would bet it was still the norm not more than a couple of decades ago. The servants are reliant on their master for income so there's an inherent power the master has over them.

    "Oh, that's a nice gig you've got there. Laying around while the magic does the work.
    Magic, that's witchcraft right? I'd be a shame if someone snitched on you. A real shame. It's the honest thing to do, and I'm an honest guy.
    Of course, nobody snitches on _family_ you know what I mean? Like say you were my wife, I'd keep my mouth shut. "

    Like a lot of of these stories, no one in the story is a good person. The girl basically betrayed her man for no good reason and is forgiven for doing literally nothing. Quick question. Is the story implying that the bird-man did the laundry in their relationship prior because if so this is the most feminist fairy tale I've ever heard. Love the video! And I think we're all giving James some side eye.

      She doesn't take the money, she does give it back. But really those guys were jerks so I wouldn't have minded if she didn't give the money back. And maybe James is considered more honest because he's giving the option of having a life after the sex. Because virginity was pretty important back then. The other two would basically be compromising her as she was seen as "unmarried".
      Also 10/10 best pun/wordplay.

    • @ms.verepaine6914
      @ms.verepaine6914 7 років тому +5

      I was just trying to joke around. I think if you read to deep into a story that isnt meant for it ruins the story.
      But okay lets do this. She gave it back years later, so in that time they thought they had lost their life savings. Yes they probably harassed her a bit, learned their lesson and left her alone.
      And with the powerful magic she was given, all she did was pretend to do work and lounge around all day. (of and get revenge on aspiring suitors). So I am not sure how this really proved her love and/or worthiness to her supposed love (of whom couldnt trust her very much to begin with).
      So my conclusion is Dael is an awesome storyteller and I think I would listen to her read VCR instruction!
