Paid $500 for my VPI 16.5 several years ago. Cleans one side at a time in about the same amount of time as the machine took in this video. It's a workhorse and does a remarkable job cleaning records with a variety of cleaning solutions! When you're finished cleaning records you can close the dust cover and everything stays clean on the inside! It's also less complex and more intuitive to use. Solid advice on record sleeves! All my records, new and used, get cleaned. Then they get their own antistatic sleeve. No exceptions.

I've owned my nitty gritty 1.5 for about 30 years. It works ok as a vacuum record cleaner, but I've found a better use for it. I recently bought a Vevor ultrasonic cleaner. My process is to first dust off visible particles. Then clean with a tergitol solution and brush both sides. Then place 2 lps in the us cleaner for about 8 or 9 minutes. Then vacuum the lp on the nitty gritty about 4 or 5 rotations. Let the 2 lps dry on the supplied rack. Then lightly polish with soft microfiber. Extremely happy with the results.

I've cleaned over 5000 records with mine. Pad replacement isn't super fun but it did exactly what I wanted

I'm on my second Nitty Gritty, the spindle on my first one having been snapped off in transit when moving house, though I should have held on to it and sent it back to Nitty Gritty for repair. My second machine I bought second-hand but it was leaking, possibly because the previous owner had been using Vodka to clean his records! I replaced the pump and tubing, which was easy and resolved the leaking problem. These are excellent machines for cleaning records, though I would advise wearing headphones when operating the vacuum. After-sales support is superb!

I bought a second machine a Mini Pro 1 very old and used and it's leaking like yours when you pump the pumper the solution fills up the tray to the top and then you pull out the tray and all the solution like a wave spills all over my pants ...

Hi! Nice video. Recently I inherited from dad the Nitty Gritty mini pro 1 and today tried to use it for the first time. It works, but there is no liquid on brushes. I pushed the plunger button. Could you help me, please, do you know any reason why cleaning fluid doesn't flow till the brushes?

@@mikehirsh1896 Yes, I did. The tank is leaking inside. I opened the machine's bottom and find out it was wet from one side. Everything is glued there and it's unreal carefully disassemble and reassemble.....

I owned my nitty-gritty 1.5 since 1989. I returned it to nitty-gritty two years ago for modification and update. The vacuum motor did not need to be changed and was still running well. I just got an upgrade because the older unit used to have a wand to hold a brush applicator as it turned. Now the new modification holds the brush and the 12-ounce bottle. My only criticism about the Pro unit is that I would not allow liquids to be in the tank for too long. Personally, I would empty it after use. There may be no harm with distilled water being left in the tank and maybe you can trust pure two left in the tank but, I would still empty it.

The Nitty Gritty is a piece of junk that overheated and did not clean or vacuum anything. I sent it back the day I bought it. I really wanted to support this company and personally corresponded with the new owner who was very supportive. So, said I bought a VPI Cyclone with the big cleaning package of products for $200 less and love this machine. It is truly the greatest audio purchase I ever made.

Can we all take up a collection and buy you a microphone? Honestly, your products are great but your audio stinks.....and your products are all about sound!

I second the motion. Really, a good lavalier (clip-on mic) is well under a hundred bucks on Amazon. Some of you videos sound like you're in a closet. Good demos, but please spring for a new mic, OK?

From what I see, compared to my Audio Desk or my old VPI 16.5, this thing is a horror to work with. It's efficiency is negated by the inability to get into the grooves by particle activation (the Audio Desk) or by scrubbing (the VPI). Next.

I've had mine for a year and have had no issues. Everything desirable is great when working properly and is shit when not. The weakness of vacuum machines that use pads is that the pad pushes dirt back into the groove defeating the purpose, no matter how clean you keep the pad. Moreover, the vacuum process creates static which immediately pulls dust back into the grooves. Great on the cheap, but ineffective in the long run.

Another issue with vacuum machines is that records need to be scrubbed like a floor. Even in a perfect world where the pads don't push dirt back into the grooves, the dirt baked into the bottom of the grooves through friction can't be vacuumed out without scrubbing the record. The Nitty Gritty doesn't allow for that scrubbing whereas a cheap 16.5 does. Of course the pads pushing the dirt back in and static electricity still applies making this all an exercise in futility.

but the Audio Desk is 3K, very expensive! but yes I dont see than that N G. do a good job... looks like a piece of wood shoes...

As I've said the two major problems with vacuum cleaners such as this is 1) The felt pads actually push dirt deeper into the grooves and 2) The felt pads create static electricity. Once the record is removed from the spindle the static quickly attracts dirt back onto the surface. Also alcohol is ruinous to vinyl if left on for too long, and all of these solvents leave a film which can get baked into the grooves by the cartridge. After cleaning records need to be rinsed (cleaned again) with distilled or triple filtered water.
The Audio Desk has none of these problems. Yes, it is expensive, but If you have an extensive record collection consider a good ultrasonic cleaner as an essential component. My advice? Save your money a little at a time. They're worth every penny.

Hel Gar I understand your points well, first of course with all my respect for this Sir on the video, that is an amateur clean, (yes I know for selling propouses the video is ok) but yes!!! real cleaning needs more steps and rinse! at the end, is like use shampoo and many liquids colors in your hair and DONT rinse at the end, so yes records need the same thing with distrilled water, I agree.
but come on after a lot rinse with distrilled water for remove cleaning solutions, you still think that get backed into grooves by the cartbridge?? maybe that happens for people that just use one step liquid with no water etc... but I dont think after a proper rinse still liquids stay in the grooves, or Im wrong?
about Ultrasonic cleaning, yes is great, no fluids or anything, BUT again extremely expensive! 3K (I cant pay that, even my turntable dont have that value) also you can make on DYI for around $600 but REMEMBER!!! even ultrasonic can damage the records!!!! if you use a lot times or if do a DYI and doing bad, you can damage the record.
my question to you a ultrasonic audio desk machine is, you clean one record one time! and never clean again for the rest of his life? why? becuase again, a lot ultrasonic can damage the record.
good talk ;) we talk, thanks

I just bought another Nitty Gritty Mini Pro because I cant afford a 6,000 dollar Nessie or Clearaudio.... This Mini Pro 1 or 2 is the biggest pain in the ass I ever dealt with in my life more then any product I had to deal with ... 1,800 dollars to glue a capstan that is for making the LP go around which I added too much glue and when that happens you have a diamond shiny rock on your hands.... I thought I ruined the machine but nope that's not what happened I need pillars so I panicked and bought a used 400 dollar Mini Pro 1 that works I don't care about the money I care about my sanity.. and then you see how smooth that LP goes around nope I can't explain how mine turns and further more THE GOD DAMN WHITE STRIPS WITH THE MATCHING HOLES A DOUBLE ADHESIVE STRIP SO YOU CAN STICK DOWN A PENCIL LIKE VAC SWEEP ON THE ADHESIVE WHITE STRIP .................... Why ? Why can the capstan somehow without glue just fit into the whatever it is and why can one make a vac sweep with adhesive backing that can just put on not but the arm that's 4 .. 4 strips one without holes one with holes .... He's not showing any of this ... The vacuum is loud like that yes and the only part that doesn't give me trouble maybe in the hearing department... But SIGH why me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And for 115.00 bucks you can send the whole thing to Georgia where everything is dealt with a free bottle of their cleaner that I would never use... I use DM-8 FREMER TOLD ME TOO... Here I'll write what you get ... MINI-PRO 1 & 2
    REPLACE SUPPORT PLATTER PAD, VAC-SWEEPS
SERVICE DRIVE MOTOR, REPLACE CAPSTAN RUBBER
    FLUSH VACUUM,* REPLACE INTAKE FILTER/COLLAR
COMPLETE SYSTEM CHECK; LIGHTLY REFURBISH UNIT
    FREE 16OZ PURE 2 ($18.50 VALUE)
    $115.00 & shipping both ways.

So every 6 months I can send this to them for 100 dollars and I won't have to deal with any of this ... I think 6 months is long enough... I think they would allow me..

I bought another one for 500 dollars was the Mini Pro 1 this was because I had a panic attack about the glue that was on the plastic piece that spins the record ... There was so much glue on there I thought it was hopeless then after spending 500 dollars I called Nitty and he told me to keep working on it getting the glue off and ... I felt like a schmuck it was flaking off and I saw that middle piece and I after getting all that gunk glue off that someone over did it to the max I put another one on and less glue and now it's wobbling all over the place but I learned not to care because I been buying lots of GZ Media LP's and part of me just doesn't care about vinyl anymore ... I'm disgusting with the industry the current young musicians the shit they're trying to get you to listen to which is like Placebo music .. Plus if you look around at all these sites with like 100 records and movies and TV shows coming out per week... I just want to find a gorgeous girl and make homemade porn films ...

Well I had a new experience it's called The UPS Store they put in a new box nothing but the machine no bubble rap or anything that would of held the machine together from NJ to GA and wow the clain I put in for UPS and they're horrific employees 50 million dollars ... With a note I asked for as a claim price ... So I'm waiting for a check for 50 million dollars from UPS ... I'm sure UPS makes 50 million in one day ... I went to school with Beth Stavola .... She has 1 billion dollars from growing cannabis plants ... Made me very sad ,,,, And in her new interviews she still has that arrogance driving back seat in a limo convertible ... And she has 5 daughters and one son .. Made me want to find her bank locations ....
