I remember when Ships were loaded by the Longshoremen AKA Stevedores. After the shipping container revolution of the 1960s, the number of dockworkers required declined by over 90%.
Worked at the Crane Fruehauf container manufacturing plant at North Walsham Norfolk England back in the 60s. About 600 employees at that time, all gone now, to China.
It could be done... but it is a tall ask. It is not as easy to maintain that automation as you think. The weld sequence alone is critical on materials of that size. Regardless China has all the technology and ability to automate should they want to. They are the absolute king of price. Even if some of that price is state sponsored.
They are cheap because they are used when containers are made they put dates on them They are only allowed to use the container for so long before it stops bringing used on ships. So they can sell them cheap as they already got their money's worth moving millions of items across the sea.
Nice way to assemble the containers. I worked for a place up in SLC, UT. assembling shipping containers and some were made into mobile offices Got the job cause they said they were 9 months behind, After I started working there they had no more work within 3 weeks I not only caught them up but seemed I worked myself out of a job. But they kept telling me to come back every day to see if they had any work which was a 2 hour drive there and 2 hours back home. After another week of no pay and the long drive I told them just call me if they had work as paying for gas and not getting any pay don't work. I went and found another job a week later since they never called.

I used to work for a company in Aberdeen who used A60 container to make cabins for the oil industry. At first they produced them themselves in a factory across the road until they discovered they could get them cheaper from Poland for the same unit.
Around 2018 I worked for a steel structure company in Norway. We did the design and installation ourself, but the steel structures themselves where manufatured in Estonia, Lativa, at about 1/4-1/3 of the cost in Norway. All the loal competition did the same, so there was no question. But it did not only had to do with cost, also delivery time, not enough enough prodution capacatiy locally

Shipping containers have been around for longer than 50 years😂 On 17 May 1917, Louisville, Kentucky native[7] Benjamin Franklin "B. F." Fitch (1877-1956)launched commercial use of "demountable bodies" in Cincinnati, Ohio, which he had designed as transferable containers. In 1919, his system was extended to over 200 containers serving 21 railway stations with 14 freight trucks.
When the fellow had his hand on the piece of metal and pushed that into the press and kept the hand there, I realized why the USA cannot compete. OSHA would have had a conniption fit. It is no wonder China can manufacture these so cheaply. Ah well, Africa will eventually take over these operations where there is even less feeling for workers. I feel this way and I'm not even a pro-union man. How many violations did you see?
the lack of any ventilation over that welding would be a major one on the violations card. Also I dont think all those presses had whatever you call that system where both hands have to do something to make it work. Interlock sounds too non technical for that to be the answer. The west really cannot compete with China, Even the USA we have safety regulations and attempt to have clean air and desire rivers that do not self ignite or cause chemical burns if someone falls in. China, not so much. also their government sponsors a lot of these factories. I guess silver lining is there is no IP for them to steal in shipping containers, They are a big steel box not really any technology there.
It's costly to ship such containers empty from China. Possible better deal is lightly used containers, that have been used for transport of goods and arrived to Europe, Americas or wherever, 'for free', and sold on by some local shipping agent
$2700 USD brand new in china for 20 GP , I think its even a double door one , I just bought , in china to import stuff in , but beware shipping companies don't like you doing this , wasted a week finding a ship to import it ...
Over educated American Government regulations took my job, just saw the people building them. Wow Inspection using a tape measure and not solid fixtured calibration
Interesting - I see a lot of "Mainland China" subtitles. Which of course is a narrative completely directed against the sovereignty of Taiwan. It that just being naive, plain stupidity or just doing Peking's bidding?
You earned our thumbs down. Get rid of the STUPID music. It doesnt make our viewing experience any better than if having got to hear the actual sounds of the machinery, tooling, processes, etc
as it's china. i don't think that qc is really looking hard. almost the lowest wage earners on the planet. i bet that most of this is fluff for the camera. suprised that the workers weren't all smiling real big, and waving a flag as they worked happily along.
China has the highest population so no they're not accepting foreign labor if you do they always want you to have less pay then their own Chinese people.
I rather listen to the sound of the machines instead of disco music.
You must admit, it’s pretty funky 🙌

Lol 6:07 , everybody new clothes, special for the filming day.
I noticed that too. Some had creases in their shirts.
Same thing in every company :D
Please make your typed font bigger and last longer.
Other wise great vid.
Very impressive assembly line. I was surprised they don’t use robotic welders.
Who needs robotic welders when prisoners work for pennies on the dollar
Easy to have cheap labor when safety standards cam be ignored. How many of these workers are going to pass on because of lung issues and cancer?
Worked at the Crane Fruehauf container manufacturing plant at North Walsham Norfolk England back in the 60s. About 600 employees at that time, all gone now, to China.
All the non vented welding gases.. Great video! Thank you :).
Only the Veritas inspectors were wearing proper respirators.
Try that getting away with that in USA
It's nice to see people doing the technical work to produce the containers, even though it's hard, manual labor.
That's a lot of manual labor. One would think the frame assembly would be fully automated by now
Agree
Agreed but with little they are paid it’s less expensive to burn through people than invest in newer automated systems.

This is Chinese automation, when you 1.8 billion people they become your robots!

I bought a 40' for $2,000.00. Very good condition at the port of Los Angeles. They are super cheap.
We pay triple in the Midwest because of transport, Sux but they are awesome for storage
can you please tell me who did you bought it from in LAX port ? much thks.

If you appreciate a well-manufactured item, you'll know that shipping containers are literally a work of art.
Great video! For my eyes, the font size of your captions could have been much larger.
Would like to see a black rectangle with white font for contrast and not obscured by the background and its movements.

Amazing ship container manufacturers
Did the guy with the tape measure come up with those dimensions?
Very Interesting clip, thanks for sharing.

Im not sure the qc team is doing much when using a non-steel tape measure......
Very cool video. Interesting to watch.
Not very impressive. It should be automated with a high speed assembly line and robotics /
its cheaper this way, and puts food on all those people's tables
How I manufacture the container to the business
Great video! Thank you :)
Alguem saber dizer o tipo de tinta usada.??
Qualidade da tinta?? Usada na pintura
please get rid of the crappy lame music so we can hear the video
looks like a health and safety disaster, no guards on press machine, poor ventilation for the welders etc.

Safety at Jiashan Xinhuachang seems to be better than in most UA-cam videos.
Muito bom😂
All the non vented welding gases.
Looked like they had drop vents just for looks that didn’t work
Made in China does not provide visions of quality. They have and continue to earn a bad reputation. Keep up the "good" work!
its amazing what a FORCED and EXPLOITED labor force can achieve

2 container manufacturers units setup to bullet train concept
Containers just for transporting natural gas are made in Lincoln, NE, USA. TMCO.
Ive seen some beautiful woven bamboo plywood in the floors of some containers.
Looks like this video was shot in 2013 from the plate in 8:11 , probably is mostly automated now as even Chinese labor rates have gone up
Would love to discuss a partnership deal to buy containers directly.
It's costly to ship such containers empty from China. Possible better deal is lightly used containers, that have been used for transport of goods and arrived to Europe, Americas or wherever, 'for free', and sold on by some local shipping agent
This is how/why the world is cheap. Things cost 300% less and we have 300% more because of low cost shipping.
I have a question: why don’t they use robots?
so badass
Why didn't you show the fully automated container line building these in China instead of this one

3:57 I can hear the noise from here. That has to be deafening even with hearing protection.
100%sure they never do quality control. Just for this video
Inspector guys in there with the breathers on to cope with the metal particulates and welding fumes - the workforce, not so much,
What an archaic production process. Tape measures ffs!! Unbelievable.
Yeah I would expect them to use lasers across that 40ft distance, or use a fixture jig while welding and be done with qualifying that dimension.
Chinese Factoey?
Over educated American Government regulations took my job, just saw the people building them. Wow Inspection using a tape measure and not solid fixtured calibration
