All the test is for is to check to make sure it's water tight. You can vacuum test it or pressure test it. Both ways work. You can do a pressure test with a bicycle pump, pressure gauge, and the correct threaded fittings made from bits and bobs laying around.

If I'm seeing this correctly you are using vacuum not pressure to test the seals?
Its pressure, the hand pump built up 10psi.

Pressure is pressure. sucking or blowing will still indicate a leak.
