How We Detail The ICONIC Ferrari F40 - First Dry Ice Clean

- Ask pretty much any car-person what their favorite car of all time is.. and you're likely to get this answer 95% of the time: Ferrari F40, of course! We had the pleasure of detailing this 1992 F40 to perfection before it makes it way to sale in Arizona next week at RM. We had our work cut out for us as we needed this thing to be darn near perfect.
We started with a deep paint correction, and every inch of the car was touched to make sure it was detailed, looking great. Then we did some interior detailing, polishing the steering wheel & shift knob, cleaning the leather, and scrubbing down all the air vents.
Before we did that, we performed a light dry ice cleaning on the car to make sure that everything was tip top shape.
This is one of those cars that just doesn't disappoint. They say don't meet your heroes.. well I did and it's still my hero car.
Have a great weekend everyone, thanks a ton!

I just watched 24 minutes of somebody polishing a car and loved every second of it.
I was about to leave the same exact comment but you beat me to it. Cheers from Boston.
Thanks for making me feel normal 😆
This video is beautiful. On behalf of every car enthusiast I thank you for creating this masterpiece
Thank you! Love to hear it
After watching your channel for some time, I used the techniques I learned to clean my own F40. A 1/8 scale car cleans a lot quicker but shines just as beautifully. ✨️
Same same, just different scale ;)
Looking brand new again... better in fact! Bravo!
Enzo is smiling from above 😎
That’s my hope too :)
I wonder if he spins in his grave seeing those cars locked away and
stared at.
1987 Ferrari F40 one of the most beautiful cars ever made 🤤
There are very few examples of the concept of perfection and the F40 is a prime example of that, fantastic work as always!
Totally agree. It's truly perfect and timeless
I can’t believe how great the clear Lexan parts came out too!Beautiful
Consistency is the key! And you guys always deliver. Your work level and quality from your videos to the every nuts and bolts is top notch. Amazing job guys!
Thank you Oliver!! Hyped you liked this one. We spent a lot of time on it and I'm glad it shows
The amount of 'fresh' air directed to this engine & the open plexi-glass piece above is over the top & so well thought out ,NACA air scoops & side vents ,air filters...the key to a reliable performance engine is cooling & heat extraction..!!...some F40's have an extra plate size extractor fan (manual) to the small rear oil radiator (gear box) ,it does have a tendency to over heat...
So it appears Ryan Gosling is a master detailer in between films! ;)
He’s been moonlighting as a detailer since Drive
Legendary car and brilliant work That red tho...Wowwowwewah!
Unreal huh!
Amazing work. Great to see the detail of the F40 up close too.
This is one of tbe best detailing I've seen..not because of the extent of the damage, simply because of the fact that whenever you see these types of cars paint corrected. It usually hardly ever needs it except to correct the last 1%. This needed a full correction like a 10 year old odyssey would and seeing the transformation on such a special car is amazing
It's actually one of the worst jobs I've seen. All beginner mistakes were made here. This car will never be able to be polished again as no nm measurements were taken by laser of the paint thickness. The steering wheel will start to crack because the top oil layer has been removed and leather nutrients and conditioner has not been used. Plastic component oil sealants and conditioner have not been used. It hurts to watch this being done to this car. I guess it's good work if you think anything shiny must be good, regardless of the fact that the car will never be able to be polished again in its lifetime. Kill any car, but not an F40.
@gold333 everything you said there was retarded. They measure paint depth in almost every video. You honestly believe they measure paint depth on a $50,000 car but not a $5,000,000 car?..you can't film every part of a 4 day detail. You just look dumb. You think anyone on earth would bring their f40 to a shop that didn't have incredibly high reputation? You think people who are restoring paint on one of the rarest cars on earth don't know how to condition an interior?
I notice you put your best man/employee on this job;) Superb work !! When you are detailing a car for RM auctions, you've arrived !! Congratulations for your hard work.
a refresher to the queen .. congratulations
Very beautiful job with a lot of time and work great video, love how you also cleaned the toolkit inside and out and the underneath of the car TOP JOB
Enjoyed every minute of it.
Work fascinate me... I could watch it all day 😝... Obviously, you have worked your way to the top!
The most iconic Ferrari 😍 the F40 🔥❤️, awesome détailing work 👍 thank you for this pure moment of wonder and share 🙏
thanks buddy! Glad you liked it
Looks awesome❤
what a beauty !
No way! You're #1 ❤
L’auto più bella del mondo! 😍🥇
*Absolute icon*
Amazing work done on an amazing car !!
Mother flipping fantastic execution here friends. That red is stunning before, but as always… epic after.
Thanks so much bud 🙌🏽🫡
It is now ready to rip on tarmac!!! This car is meant to be driven!!! I don’t know how you guys haven’t gotten a million views on this yet.
Soon 😉
Man, build quality was never super high at Ferrari but this thing is constructed like a kit car. Awesome video anyways!
Amazing restoration 👌🏻
Absolutely magnificent ❤️
The owner probably had second thoughts on selling the F40 once he saw the shine and glimmer of this Italian Beauty.
We try to not let them see the car until its up for sale because seller’s remorse is real 🤣
This is more relaxing than yoga
That's what I keep telling my girlfriend but she doesn't believe me
Amazing
she is perfect! well done.
🙌🏽
Reflecting with my Sunday morning cup o' joe. I guess John Wick is not the only man with a singular focus..."I once saw Jake finish an F40 in a garage with a single red clay bar! Who does that?" The more I watch, the more I think what kind of training do you do to keep your health and strength up? Not kidding (well, maybe a little). Happy Sunday Jake & Co.
I can assure you, Peter, the strength comes from within, and from working hard hours almost every single day. The man, the myth, the legend, Jakub himself
You’re like the Ryan Gosling of the Detailing World 😅
Beautiful work lads. F40 in non metallic red.....just sublime. I'd like to think Enzo and Dino would be looking down most satisfied.
That’s our hope too :)
I'm here before it makes 1 mil views. :)
That’s my hope too 😄
paint correcting an f40 has to be one of the most stressful jobs on the planet lol. For those that dont know, the paint is unbelievably thin ... to save weight lol. Its unbelievably thin, and burning through this paint with mechanical tools is a very very real possibility. Expert hands and knowledge required
Holy disassemble, I want to learn how to detail like this. 👍
Muy genial 😀
At 16.11 , you can still observe the finger prints of the guy who applied the green 'bath-room' silicone joint on the cockpit kevlar body parts 30 years ago..!!!😂
Cool very cool
amazing craftsmanship! and im not talking about the car (of course the car has it too!). These guys know what they are doing!
I'm sure they forgot something...😉
Bella machina !!!! Another great team work !!😎🤘
Thanks much!
Well now I understand Jakub why you said the car on Sunday would be the one to add to your collection! WOW the ULTIMATE boy toy!!!! I just love the F40 as I'm sure everyone watching does. I got to sit in one once and it was amazing. Leno needs to add one of these to his collection I can't believe he doesn't have one yet. I REALLY wish you would MC these videos yourself it's not that hard or time consuming and I think you should be the face of your own company. Please reconsider and give one a try!!!! You did an awesome job at Christmas when you did the car give away....Gord
Leno doesn't buy Ferraris.
@@curtiswiseman5207 Ya I know Curtis but I thought in this instance because F40's are so special he might make an exception. people are always asking him why he doesn't own any Ferraris. His answer is always because he hates the dealerships!!
I’ll see if i can convince him but as I asked him in the first two seconds.. he doesnt want to lol - Evan
Thanks for the support Gord!!
I bet the young man still pinches himself every time he gets in that
Mercedes, still having a hard time believing it's his. I would.
That car came in incredibly water spotted and swirl marked to s***....
You brought it back to Ferrari standard.
👍 Always top-notch work, worth watching 🏁
🫡🙌🏽
One detailer said you have to be very careful with power buffers. Ferrari was so obsessed with saving weight that they used less paint than they normally would. That's why you can see the carbon fiber through it in some places. It is not a defect in the manufacturing process.
Yes but in late models like this one they actually add more paint because many people complained about the quality in first few hundred cars 😉 so here you can’t see the texture as much like in early cars
the job on the bonnet in the glass area is incredibly good
The team is very happy to hear that!
The whole video should have been ASMR. Awesome detail btw! 😉
So happy to hear you liked those little sections! It’s hard to do when we dont have a special car we decide to do it for because the shop needs to be really quiet and only one person working really but we’re going to try and do it more
@@IAMDetailing Sure, I can completely understand it. Try to do it more often, or dedicate a whole video if possible for the ASMR community. Keep up the great work guys! 😊
the only ferrari I adore
Well great job 👏
Thank you!
Pristine beauty!
I'm a fan, exceptionally amazing work!!
How long working out Dry Ice Cleaning ?
This channel is seriously underrated.
Let’s figure out how we can make it properly rated ;)
Beautiful work guys. Ever thought about doing these videos with no music? Just the sound of the work being done.
We’ve definitely considered it. The issue is we would have to do the car after hours in order for it to work. We’re usually working on more than one car at a time, and it’s a lot of work to film and record each piece really slowly with just one audio going. We might try a few ASMR sound only videos in the future on some really special cars. Some of the tools also sound SO annoying lol
Me encanta el f 40 y f40 lm... Los mejores tiempos de Ferrari.
Cool
best supercar all of time
I'm really impressed by the finish of the cars and also how you explain the what and the why. Plus the camera work is excellent. Best detailing/restoration channel on UA-cam!
That means a ton for us to hear Paul. This is the comments that keep us goin!
@@IAMDetailing Annot the ammony?
Guys!!! This is inkredible!!!
That’s what we like to hear!
so simple from an exterior look..,but when put on a lift and observing the way this chassis is built & put together..the care for every single bolt and parts makes you understand why this marvel is still so well planted on the road...everything has a purpose for performance..actually at 20.56..,I"m wondering about the orientation & positioning and the purpose of the 2 tubing (grey) parts oriented and close to the the rims...??
Super
Just discovered your channel…fantastic work bringing a performance phenomenon back to A1 condition. Subscribed!! 😎👍
I love to hear that Steve! Thanks for joining our community! We have about 250 videos for you to catch up on 😉 and two new ones every week!
F16 yes
Hi what polisher and pad did you use for the lexan engine bay cover?
Forget a Lamborghini this is way better
R17! R17!!!
Show de profissionalismo.
🙌
wow
What wool pads do you prefer/brand ??Rupes??
Hi I watching your polishing process not to bad if you cut single stage paint more aggressive with Rupes Rotory compound and extra cut wool pad rupes 3 and 5 inch you can open clear coat 85,90 % make more sharp and take more deep scratches.and second steps try use Sonax perfect finish with yellow rupes foam pad. You can see different results. And Respect for your hard and nice work!
God bless engineer Materazzi.
Euro f40 front end ❤
Nailed the detail. Nailed the video. You have really stepped up the video production. Excellent. 😎👊🏻🔨
Stoked to hear that Joe!!
Enjoyed the video. The age and thickness of the paint was this a preservation detail leaving some deep defects?
Early cars had very thin paint for saving weight. Buyers started complaining about quality of the paint / visible carbon fiber texture, so Ferrari decided to put more paint on later models and hide some of the carbon-fiber texture.
We didn't cut anything crazy off it. Even though you can’t really see on the video, but are still some light scuff marks as we wanted to be quite careful… the paint is not 100% but it’s really nice and very presentable… new buyer will be happy. And we're quite happy too!
Easy 15k detail 👌
always joy to watch your masterpiece!! by the way, I wonder which dryicecleaning machine you use. coldjet pcs 60??
Yep! We typically are using the Coldjet PCS60. We have been trying out a few other machines lately as well though
@@IAMDetailing pcs60 worth 50,000 dollars? I mean Is it way much better than old models like aero40?
@@user-ec7wh3rd4r We haven't found a machine that works as well as our PCS and we've tried several. We actually own two PCS60s specifically for this reason
3:06 At first glance, I believe you are Ryan Gosling!!.
MEGA🥰😎
A mais icônica machina da casa de Maranelo
Amazing work 🙏 and a legend of a car. What happened to the PCS60?
We still have TWO of them :) We've been trying out a couple new machines for some companies and providing feedback. We'll dive in to it soon enough!
@@IAMDetailing Sounds interesting. Good work 👌
Would be nice to get rid of the orange peel, but the paint is so thin on these just not worth the risk.
Great job!!
How many hours there are in that detailing job?
The first thing to wear out on these type of cars is the paint job.
Dear Liberty Walk, this is how you treat an F40.
No truer comment has ever been spoken 🫡🙌🏽 thanks Jeff!
Both are very good works . You dont treat like that
To each their own. Both cars are works of art.
Calm down old man. No one tells you what to do with your money. Quit pocket watching
@@decline1129
Exactly
What is your preferred headlamp for use when doing paint correction?
These are the headlamps we're using in the shop! amzn.to/32oBZgn
Theyre so stinking bright, it's wild!
Nice, do they stay cool? I’m not a hat guy so the heat would really be noticeable for me.
good example of a pristine f40. japanese car guys are nuts to bolt some wide body kits onto their f40s.
Absolutely insane. Honestly can’t believe Liberty Walk made a kit. Nothing is sacred in 2023
I need to test drive that car.
You and me both buddy
I would love to see Ferrari (or a Restomod top guy) decide to re-build this exact car based on a 488 GTB chassis..(first gen)..same carbon fiber & kevlar body as the original ,6 speed manual (gated) ,same exact look with a simplified black interior...No doubt it would sale like hot cakes even if they priced them 2 M$ each of 40 units...!!
Did the owner wash with steel-wool? Nice transformation!
😅
No idea what the whole process cost?
But I bet it added 3x the cost to the cars selling price/ desirability.
It looks stunning, but I noticed that the internal backwindow hasn't been touched at all? Lots of scratches visible!?
You’re right about that 👍🏽 good eye… there were two problems (time and access) if it’s on me and we have more time I would even remove the doors and polish properly under… as same as few other details. We polished both side windows from outside but scratches you see are from inside and there is really bad access, which will take us few hours to get it.
@@IAMDetailing I can imagine that time is a big player here! Nonetheless the car looks amazing after you guys touched it! Love the video! Hope to see more red cars :)
Impressive. The paint is so thin on F40's
Beautiful work as always. That is the first time I have ever seen a red clay
bar used. Was under the impression they could be harmful.
Not if you know how to use them properly. Theyre still one of the best tools you can have in your arsenal. Thanks for watching Geoff!
😉😉😉💯💯💯
i may have missed it. what was the remaining paint thickness after this? its already abysmal to begin with no?
This is a 92, so these had a thicker paint applied to the car than the original f40s
There’s still some light scratches and scuffs in places where we were concerned about paint thickness being an issue, so it’s not 100% but it’s quite beautiful and its new owner will be very happy with it
@@IAMDetailing for sure. Looks amazing. Just wish the car had more life left on the paint. Single stage like this won't be able to be cut and buffed more than a few times over the next 100 years. Luckily they shouldn't require it a bunch between now and then
03:06 for 1 sec i thought its ryan gosling
Why Ryan Gosling cleans f40?
