Thanks for showing us you're beautiful garden. It must be nice to live near the water seeing all that wildlife. Here in N.Y i haven't seen that many butterflies in the past two years now. Only one black swallowtail and just now a few monarchs. I thought maybe it had to do with the smoke coming down from Canada on account of the wildfires last year. But this year hardly any either. We've been getting alot of hot and humid weather here but also rain in-between which is great for the gardens. Looking forward to fall. This has really been the hottest summer. But for two years we've also had mild winters.

Sorry to hear you also haven't seen many butterflies this summer. This has been a mild summer here with lots of rain. Yet, still not many butterflies. I think the lack of snow and warm temperatures this past winter hurt the butterflies that overwinter.

Your garden has really blossomed this year!!! Wow… beautiful. Rain has been good to you as well as central Louisiana, where I live I got many pointers from your utube videos and my butterfly garden is doing great!! Thanks for all the knowledge you share with so many.

Very few butterflies at my house in Oakdale, MN. I usually have 7 butterfly enclosures filled with eggs/caterpillars from black swallowtail and monarchs that I find on my flowers. This summer only 2 swallowtail cats and one monarch. My butterfly bushes should be filled with all types of butterflies and there are none to be found. My meadow blazing star is blooming, and so far just a couple of monarchs when they usually are covered in them. Hoping next year is a better butterfly year.

Sue, Thanks for sharing. Isn't is sad! The flowers are in full bloom and hardly any butterflies?

Everything looks beautiful. I was a little sad to see butterfly bush. Anise hyssop is a great replacement and it attracts a TON of butterflies and bees!

Brandy, I also love hyssop! I have 4 hyssop plants, but they haven't bloomed yet. Were you sad to see the butterfly bush because it is know to be invasive? I have grown a few of these plants. In the north they seem to die out after a couple of cold winters? Thanks for sharing.

@@davethebutterflyguy9841 my hyssop was half the size it normally is this year and bloomed a little later than normal. I hope yours bloom soon for you! Yes, the invasive tendencies of butterfly bush but everything else in your gardens look absolutely beautiful and thriving!! The rain this summer in the midwest has been much appreciated.

I’m in Bellevue NE. I’ve got 7 monarch caterpillars in my house and 3 black swallowtail cats. Friday and again today, I found some weird beetle with a single sword like fang in the milkweed outside sucking the life out of a monarch caterpillar. It was so sad.

That is depressing to hear your monarch cats are getting destroyed. I struggle with the swallowtail caterpillars as the birds and wasps seem to decimate these caterpillars.

@@davethebutterflyguy9841Yes wasps are the absolute worst for the swallowtail 😢

Was that really an otter? Seemed kind of small, I was thinking mink, or some other relative, I'm not anything near an expert 😎🤔

The video of the otter was from a distance so it looked small. I am pretty sure it is an otter as we have seen a family of otters playing and foraging down in the lake behind our house this summer. Otters are also know to eat small mammals if they are able to catch them. It is so black which also leads me to think it is an otter. Although, mink and weasels have similar body shapes, so you may be right that it is something other than an otter. Thanks for watching!

I don't think it's an otter. I think its a North American Mink.

I did some research on line and I agree with you. It is most likely a Mink! Thanks for pointing this out.

Yea... forget the marigold fence, if you can keep that Mink in your yard, the rabbits will go somewheres else.
I realy like your property, what lovely backdrop for your butterfly videos.
I live in Brooksvilke, Fl. and I'm looking at my small garden right now, and I see a Black Swallowtail, a Zebra Swallowtail, and Sulfors flying flower to flower and a Queen Butterfly laying eggs. A good day. 😁
