My first synth was a korg 770. Everything about this is very similar, but what makes it really appealing is the midi input and arp which my old synth does not have. The best it could do was assign LFO to note trigger, but that could not sync to anything else. I have a 90 minute cassette somewhere of my old drones I made using the effect. I have zero need for more synths, but it holds a lot of sentimental value as a classic design I am very familiar with. This newer one seems to have a sharper attack that is found in newer analogs. The old 770 is slightly mushy on the attack. The poly800 is similar. The huge selling point for the 770 was its manual which provided an easy overview on what waves are found in what sounds and how to use the various sections in the synth. I think it may even have had some sample patch settings for common instrument types. If this one has a similar manual it seems like a great starter synth due to the simplicity of its architecture. The price on this is what will make it or break it.
Gotta hand it to Korg, they led the analog charge with the minilogue and led the vintage reissue charge with the ms20 mini. This is even better. Yamaha and Roland should definitely take notes. They probably don't have anyone on payroll right now that can design/build analog circuits, but they can always hire and I'm sure they keep good documentation of the old hardware.
Not sure if it really came across in this vid but when you get those Traveler sliders just right, these things have ROOM SHAKING BASS the likes of which very few synths classic or modern can match. Seriously!! I have the Mini700FS and an original Mini700S and the bass was always nuts even back in '74. Great vid. Great synth. MIDI, inputs, spring reverb! Worth the price for me...
Cool little box! The mini korg suits well to let this attenuator shine - set the basic tone and make it always sound better by pushing it over the edge.. thanks!
Over 1K and... mini keys with no velocity sensitivity? Um.. No thanks. It seems like much of this sale is about the looks. Will probably satisfy some rich guy's GAS fine. Now, if they made it say 2 octaves but full size keys + velocity sensitivity + Kaoss Pad (or additional spring-less joystick), - that would open up an additional market niche for sure. Portability with next to zero expressiveness (and lack of MIDI OUT to add insult to injury) is a tough sell especially for that price.
Maybe try one, the sound on the 700fs is one of the most organic sounds from a synth I’ve heard in years! The reissue is a ball tearer, nothing to do with looks if your chasing a vibey, alive sounding synth
Awesome! Nice review, as always, thank you. Loving this synth, I'll need one, unfortunately. That is written now. Still in my Drumlogue honeymoon phase though. O yeah, and also can't afford a 700Sm currently. I hadn't even heard of it's bigger brother that you mention, the 700Fs. Interesting
Thanks! I use MOscilloscope and MAnalyzer by a company called Melda - they’re free with some limitations in the MFreeFXBundle. Occasionally I’ll use scopes by VCV
I have a 700s and 700fs so i love it but we all know this is way to expensive… you can buy a FS for the money atm. Now do a 800dv, I know it s on the list, Korg 😄
Cheers Ziv, it is beautiful from outside but to your knowledge is the circuitry inside through hole like the original vintage 700 or is it just surface mount like all Behringers etc ?
I didn't open it... why does it matter BTW? There are plenty of reasons not to like Behringers but I personally don't believe surface mount is one of them. What am I missing? Unless you mean discrete components (not that that's necessarily a recipe for good or bad sound IMHO)
Beautiful, if i was a keyboard player i would want one. As the average "sound design" tinkerer of course not. At that price. I mean its a vintage remake, like those 50s guitar amps and guitars.
i understand that before there were no saving presets on previous versions, but idea to give only 14 slots is really strange nowadays. but maybe i dont understand technical magic beside changing presets which limits it, but if it controlled by computer changing presets why they wouldnt let have some bigger number of them?
Honestly, I'd rather there be more feature limited but unique sounding synths on the market. Too many options put me in a state of option paralysis. I'd rather turn it on and know what I can expect to create.
Initially when Korg released the 700FS, the first few production/demo units had the triangle wave wrong and didn’t sound like the original 700S. Glad that when I received my unit, it sounded to like the original 700S
Preach brother preach, they made shit like the moss engine, now they make bullshit like this, like all the other legacy companies... but they don't have to...it's just the hardware market now I guess...you want innovation invest in older hardware while it's still cheap
@@inthefade I respect that. For me, they could've done something around ms-20 voice and filter. Or make it more crazy with FM synthesis. This product seems very boring to me
I always wanted to get the the 700FS but it was too big and expensive for what it is, even though it sounds so good. This is a great solution. I'll get it.
One of my favourites from back in the day. Wish I kept it but it had some issues. Wouldn’t be interested in this mini version. I like the big chunky original.

It was designed about half a century ago. Quite literally looks nothing like a synth "designed by AI". Also AI designs are stolen directly from things humans have made. Everything AI makes was original something made by people
good job on Korg for this one, looks very well done! super classy
Very cool! I can afford one now! Thanks loopop!

Korg 770 is a far way better synth by itself sounds better and way more possibilities. (Owner of 700, 700s, 770)

To be fair they started the analog reawakening with the Monotribe, and then the Volcas.
@@leftmono1016 Good call, and the Monotrons... Not sure if it's mentioned in the video, but the Volca Bass even had this 700s filter circuit

I think the reverb on the smaller one sounds better. Sounds less springy than the big one. In a good way
I love the reverb on the big one, I love that it sounds like an old metallic tank, bringing very interesting and alive tones 🙂
Thanks for the great review!
Excellent! Hope it’s priced well
lol it’s not
Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. A shift to Korg of old and away from their recent VST with button iterations.
I do not know if it sounds any special, but... the aesthetics. I would probably buy this to just put it nicely on the shelf :)
Respect to korg for putting this out

I didn’t realise it was a baby version until you took it out of the case!
thats actually really pretty. sounds good too
Great for early Human Luegue covers. 😀
i had one of these sweet babies for awhile. Such a cool little quirky machine. I may need to get my hands on the rerelease!

Whoa!!! So wild!
£1200.... nostalgia can go fish at that price
Second hand 700 FS for 650 sounds better 😂
Great Demo! Cool reissue, hope its priced right
No MIDI out is hard to understand...and no velocity .. ..wtf Korg ?
This will do well, just based on the aesthetics. Sounds nice too

Where can we get this wonderful PLUS 3 box ?
Thanks.
Thanks! At many retailers or directly from Endorphin.es on their site
Awesome
Korg out here chasing ghosts of the past and taking my money
It will sit nicely in front of ARP2600m and them playing together can be phunn!
FINALLY! A new synth with some character. Most synths play it safe and sound the same, these days. This is a nice bit o spice.
You are being sarcastic, right?
My matriarch can do anything this can do and more
@ yes and no. My moog grandmother does a lot of this.
sounds the same as any analog synth to me
New?!
1:25 i would like korg to send me free synths. i would like that so much that i would say good things about them so they would keep sending.
Retromania! Sounds good though :) thank you lou

Inmho, a Jarreish type of synth
It has exactly that Korg Sound that I don’t like. Beautiful machine thou.
close to buying a Plus 3.... just don't know how useful it would be with a 4-elektron device setup
It depends which ones - they need a sustain or expression jack (unless you want to risk a feedback loop!)
Was there a price?
We'll know the price when it hits stores (in a month or so) - I think it will be around $1,300 but don't hold me to it...
