When Flea mentions Aeroplane and John's like "oh, really? you're gonna bring that up now?"
+nonnanevrotica I think John said "Really?" not out of spite but out of curiosity. He's stated a few times that he's never listened to the album and never will, so I think he didn't know that Flea's daughter and her friends sang at the end of Aeroplane.
That's just my take though. I'm pretty sure john's still a little salty they made an album without him, but whatever.
Didn't know that he had never listened to the album. Since he was deep in depression and heroin when the album came out, I can understand the frustration. But I still wonder what Aeroplane would sound like with John
I got that too 😀 John does have an ego on him, bless...
I got that too
im guessing that the idea of the planets was johns idea
omfg listening to john in this interview, i feels so fucking elevated. rather than having to listen to him when he was all dishevelled back in the days. i love john!
thanks for the 2nd installment. *patiently waits for the rest* :)
After watching the Funky Monks documentary its cleary obvious how drugs have affected john, even to this day. He was so clear headed and had a clear line of thoughts when speaking, in more recent interviews after he cleaned up, he is a little bit slower. Don't get me wrong, I love all of his solo material and think he is a genius, but I can only imagine how much greater he would be had his body not have been tainted by crack cocaine and heroin
I know, it's sad.
I hope you’ve changed.
That’s ridiculous. People tend to talk slower as they age
Just as a side note: I noticed that Chad was listening intently to John when he explained the concept of Jupiter and Mars. Love that because the interview as such conveys an unusual awkwardness
He said he feels the same way with how the kids sang on Aeroplane
Which is funny because John wasn't in the band at that point in time so you could definitely see some tension throughout this interview between Flea and John. Not to mention Flea wasn't happy with the record and they argued over where to go with the songs a lot.
Your confusing flea not being happy with “by the way”. And I don’t sense tension cause he made a comment on a song when he wasn’t in the band, I sense general tension which is why they took hiatus after this.
i love strip my mind and hard to concentrate. great songs.
Aw when flea mentions aeroplane you can see he’s trying hard with that smile not to poke at Johns ego (we all have ego I’m not faulting him for it) and John takes it pretty well. I’m glad flea found it in him to share that sentiment, because he felt a real connection with what John was describing, and wanted to tell him without bringing up a difficult topic. John always felt like chili peppers with Dave was like his girlfriend being with one of his idols. Because janes addiction was huge for John.
love how john couldn't give a shit about aeroplane :')
they were so creative during this time, this will never happen again unfortunately without John.
will roc he’s back :)
You are still correct. They would never do it without John. But now they have John, so they absolutely will.
I think the favourite songs bit says a lot musically about the band. John and Flea are easily the two most spiritually connected to music and the reason the chilis songs are so good. When John names 'We Believe' Anthony and Chad can't believe it but Flea just sits quiet acknowledgedly - Chad's favourite songs are 'Dani Cali' and 'Tell me Baby', he is just a no nonsense hard hitting drummer but that's why we love him and the reason the Chili's rock and swing so well...
thanks
@pfmrokman All of them are amazing. Flea was voted the number two bassist in the world; Chad is always on point, while there are better singers than Anthony, he's got an amazing presence, and John...well he's JOHN.
Its great to hear from Rick (a guy with massive musical knowledge and who knows and produced tons of bands) that they are one of of the best musicians out there, he knew them very well (specially with John in the band)
I think i will miss Rubin in this new record, i wish im wrong and Josh blow my mind just like he did with Im with you
i own 131 and i cant wait for the next album too
lol, when I first got this album I listened to the whole thing. I mean one track after another, Jupiter then Mars non-stop.
Oh Lord, I can't get enough of John at 4:50 ... I just can't help laughing every time I see his facial expressions :D :D God, I love this man :)))
Flea seemed strange in this interview. I found it odd he didn't have a favorite song. Is this the album that he and John had creative differences over how it was supposed to sound?
“We weren’t trying to replicate any specific artist in the video it was more of a general look and vibe from the time.”
They literally did nirvana unplugged and the Beatles EXACTLY
I love when John says the kids who sang on We Believe were really cute! he is the only one without kids so I think that is sweet. I don't love the fact that Flea brought up Areoplane , especially knowing that John and Flea didn't always see eye to eye while recording this album. But I do love John laughing at Chad's fave songs!
he says "i would like to throw -Snow- some love"
"i cant think of any rock band better than them"
Rick Rubin
It's true.
I like when Flea mentions Aeroplane while looking at John.
yeah the way i think of it is like music is johns first love so when the chilis recorded OHM with dave navarro it was like his girlfriend seeing another guy, and now they're back together he can get over it but doesnt really wanna be reminded of it
For those who don't understand, Flea means 'I like all of them.'
All three of the albums they made with him were number one in multiple countries. He stayed as long as he wanted to.
The three he made upon returning.
sacred democratic pow wow, damn anthony is the man, i wish he would come out with another book talking about his experiences writing by the way and stadium. yeah!
FER NUTHIN!!
I agree with Rick Rubin's comment at the very end of the presentation... And he knows...
@dockaiser When did he mention Aeroplane?
I like Chad's purple socks and Anthony's eyes..and John's soul and Flea's talent...of course Chad's talent too!!
Flea at 4:50 and johns response... Thought John never listened OHM?
@hojima Yeah thats true, BSSM is a great album, but he would have only just started to have influence on them at that point wouldn't you say? One Hot Minute was good with Dave Navarro who produced that?
@hojima Mother's Milk shit!? One of their greatest albums along with BSSM seriously!
what song does anthony talk about?the one with the kids?is it on the album?
@Toady24
I thought the same thing about "Aeroplane," but it surely wasn't meant to be a diss, and I really don't think John was offended by it... I mean, "Aeroplane" was the first time Flea worked with kids and they felt the same feeling at different times.
4:50 woowoowooah...
I figured one of Chad's top 2 would've been Hump de Bump because of his awesome percussion solo in it.
1:20 holy shit i thought that was karl marx for a second
I wish my Santa was a producer!
Hahahaha 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@gabbs3101 they all except anthony are on the top hundred lists off all time in their category. few bands can say that
@DieByTheDrop Check out 4:52. He says sth. with "... Aeroplane"
si lo conseguis con subtitulos por favor avisame!!!!!
anthonys tat on his back is so raw
@ILoveFrankWoodley yep
@vizcacha5 i think is some song of one hot minute so he can say it or something like that
Lol. I like that album.
He does...He's like the Jesus of producing in more ways than one.
I love how they always talk about "energy" and how their chemistry as a band is being 'beautiful", "magical" and "spiritual".It's probably funny because of the absolute sincerity in which they say it..
Which is favorites song from John, i don't hear them :/?
Why John, why did you leave?
😭💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
He's back
what was flea's favorite??? 5:04
i think he said he doesnt have one, but i'm not sure
I kinda like Rick Rubin's style but he did contribute greatly to the loudness war. Like three albums he executively produce have this issue!
im trying to be as good as john. but ya know thats like almost impossible. hes so influential to me. i get so much inspiration from his solo albums from when he was on herion.
am I the only one on this earth that appreciates Chad?
Seems like he's always pushed in the back seat,
if you know what I mean
LOL at how they got on Chad about his "favorites."
is it just me, or did Flea strike one of John's nerves or something when he mentioned Aeroplane? probably brought up bad memories. And it seemed like Flea was like "oh crap" right after he said it.
@okamasphere I actually disagree as to how it affected him as a musician and artist. I think his experience of delving deep deep into the darkest abyss of the human experience and managing to lift himself out of there has allowed him now to be able to channel much more light to his music and has made him a much more profound human being which is also reflected in his music.
Where is part one?
"god is always there, but you need to do the footwork" it means something when an artist like flea from the rhcp says that.
mmm looks like the same place they recorded BSSM not sure tho ;O
@tochbu Not really. Rick did great things with them on blood sex sugar magic. It was their first album that didnt have shitty "80s" production (you know what im talking about). Its just that he pushed them away from what they wanted to do, after californication, john wanted to go a bit back towards punk, but ruben was like "no, make californication the second"
is that the BSSM house?
Those are the only Red Hot Chili Pepper albums but Marron 5 has recorded there. Slipknot recorded there,. and I believe System of a Down recorded Mezmerize and Hypnotize there.
What does Flea say at 4:50 ?
06:55 THIS!
if any of hte chili peppers left, i think the band will still be brill!!!
oh yeah...better fu%$in believe it son.
Does someone know what happened to the other 10 songs from the album because Anthony said they recorded 38 songs but at the end they choose 28 songs to be in the album??
They are available on youtube as a B-side. By the way, it's 11 songs.
1. "Million Miles of Water"
2. "Whatever We Want"
3. "Lately"
4. "A Certain Someone"
5. "Mercy Mercy"
6. "Funny Face"
7. "I'll Be Your Domino"
8. "Joe"
9. "Save This Lady"
10. "Permutation"
This is the first time I have seen how Rick Rubin looks like-HOLY SHIT!!!
at the end, i agree with rick ruben
min 4:29 "these kids walked into the Center for the Cultivation of the Invisible"
WTF? Is that John´s version of a studio?
John didn't want to hear Flea's comment on "Aeroplane"
@pfmrokman yes...really
@fl00ki he say something about "aeroplane"
agree with Mr. Rick, the RHCP is a band that is nothing to do with the others band, they put a funky/rock/punk/sychodelic/beautiful sound, i dont know, the only I know that they are one of the reason why I live for music, Thanks Flea, Chad, John, Anthony!
I never considered them a "novelty" band, though novelty is one aspect of what they do.
i think he said that he has no favorites (about 1 second before 5:04 though)
@Fabian050680
I know what you mean, but you can't say you shouldn't play one RHCP song on your way to your job or school. Everyone like one song more than an other
RHCP rock!
😍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😚😗
HAHHAHAHHAHA
im sorry
im sorry..
but that rick rubin guy looks funny as shit
LOL.
Can somebody tell me the second favourite song Anthony talks about, please? :)
Snow. track 2 on Jupiter
I get the feeling Chad's always bored while doing interviews
@popomczowzow that's what you call a sarcastic "yeah?", i mean, it nearly sounded like "oh, yeah?!" xD
mmm. I think it shows that Flea liked the time with navarro and would like to play this songs but John obviously does not want to mention these few years when he left the band, maybe not because of Navarro and One Hot Minute, but maybe just because of his drug addiction
i agree.....there's no better band than the red hot chili peppers......
Christ, Flea looks so pissed off.
quiero subtitulos :S me interesa saber que estan diciendo :(
yeah, he needs more attention from the fans, they wouldnt be The Red Hot Chili Peppers without him or any other band mamber
yea. i feel bad for chad cuz in all the full band interviews he never says anything, and he's so amazing and i feel he should say more. I guess its just his personality or something.
I GO POOP IN PANTS
@oaxaca911 he says "i don't have any"
well, he does...
oh i have something in common we are Hard to Concentrate fan
tell me baby
@DAVIDWRIGHTY it's not that he couldn;t give a shit, it just wasn't his work, so he might've felt out of place to have an opinion on the song.
Is Rick Rubin saying Red Hot Chilli Peppers is the best rock band/musicians ever at the end?
i wish my producer was santa
