    One feature you overlooked on the Rhapsodo is the club recognition. Granted it works mainly for the irons, you just hold the club in front of it and it automatically detects what club you’re hitting.

    A very happy owner of Swing Caddie sc300i, cannot believe you took hours to set it up, I’m not tech savvy but had it working within minutes. Also no mention of the video component which gives a 5 second film clip of your swing from any angle with minimal set up with an iPhone.

    Very good review. I have a Swingcaddie 200 and I’m considering replacing it. I do like that it will audibly tell you distances. I wish SwingCaddie devices were Bluetooth enabled so that I could use my AirPods to hear my swing results without announcing to the world that my drive went “185 yards!”

    I have both the Mevo as well as the SC300i. Ease of use is hands down the SC300i. Accuracy is equal on good shots but the Mevo needs to be lined up very close to the target line while the SC300i has a much wider view of your hitting area. My son started his college golf experience this fall and I sent him off with the Mevo. While I was down visiting him he fell in love with the SC300i and now I have the Mevo again. Very good unit BUT I want my Swing Caddie back! 😇

    The SC300i is a no-brainer for me. The remote is a really nice touch, very accurate, love the audible carry distance but also being able to glance at the data, and the practice mode is a great tool. I don’t like having to use my phone in conjunction with the device. Great video - thank you!

    It looks like in order to get swing path stats, an area that I've been working to improve, the Garmin R10 is the only unit reviewed which includes this. I recently purchased a Rapsodo before seeing this review. (Haven't used it yet)

  • @rdj3video
    @rdj3video 2 роки тому +5

    Nice honest and practical review.
    I have the Rapsodo as it came out before the Garmin R10. Would love to have the simulator function of the R10 to play local courses in the backyard or at the range. Anyway, YES, the Rapsodo is visually appealing with the data points and an analysis update they made a few months ago, BUT while I like that it utilizes my phone (the whole reason I bought it) I also hate that it utilizes my phone. Any amount of sunshine mixed with concrete surface at a range is iPhone overheat after about a dozen swings. I have better results with it recording swings into a net on my backyard porch where I can control direct sunlight. ALSO the Rapsodo battery life may be 8 hours, but your iPhone is going to die well before that. In the first few months I got the data I needed to give me an idea of my carry distances, but now I will only pull it out to spot check a club or two. My guess is it will work well during morning range session before work, but then my phone battery will be treading water the rest of the day unless I have my portal charger handy.

  • @PFI1957
    @PFI1957 Рік тому +5

    Great summary. Thanks. The one flaw in your analysis is not weighting the features measured. For example accuracy should have a higher weighting than ease of setting up (within reason). Would be interesting to see how the rankings changed with some level of weighting for each feature measured by level of importance.

    • @carlr2837
      @carlr2837 Рік тому +1

      There is no one "right" way to weight the features, and each person should consider how they plan to use it, and determine the weights that apply to them. For example, I'll be using a launch monitor on the range only, meaning I will have to set it up each time, and also that I will be hitting range balls, which means that and accurate distance still won't tell me much, whereas portability, battery life, and ease of setup will be very important. For someone who plans to use it indoors, with good balls, ease of setup and portability are not important at all, while accuracy will matter more.

  • @jeffg4479
    @jeffg4479 2 роки тому +4

    Had a Rapsodo MLM and it was a mess. Wouldn't read shots and it killed battery on your phone. When it worked it was very accurate though. I was able to sell it and got a Garmin R10. It is much better. Shot shape can be off at times but distances seem good and all the other features work well too. For whatever reason it doesn't pick up my PW though. It keeps recording it as 30 yards short. It just doesn't like that one club. I only use it at the range. I know some people say it isn't that great indoors into a net.

    A few points... G80 should be put on a golf ball to watch your shots from an angle, it has a special dimple at back.
    As an R10 user, I must say that it is NOT that friendly. Sometimes it is not obvious it is "on" when you start it, sometimes it disconnects from the app when you smbd calls you and it goes into standby, and waking it up needs restarting the app (stop/start a session and so on).
    Also, an app is terribly programmed, it needs REALLY powerful phone to work properly. Like top models. And still, it sometimes stalls.
    But is the closest to a simulator you can get for this money.
    IF you can get it. If you will see this in a shop, get it, you can easily make some money by selling it on a ebay ;-) Shops in my location say that it won't be available till next year...

    I own a couple of these...i would say i bought the g80 as a gps (and it's brilliant at that)- you can input all the scores for 4 players (most gps do 1or2 players) the use of it against the others as a launch monitor is a little unfair as that's not its primary function....to me the launch monitor use of it is mostly for fun rather than accurate club data...for me the garmin r10 is garmins launch monitor so i would recommend r10 of these launch monitors and g80 as a great gps with some fun features to take the range.

The r10s only issue is the spin but overall it has no match because you get a good idea of shot shape into a net.

      David I tested my R10 against a 15k Flightscope at an outdoor range and like you found all numbers very good except spin. After the latest software update I tested indoors against a Trackman hitting into a net about 15 feet away and everything thing was really accurate including the spin. I couldn’t believe the improvement in spin accuracy. I did wonder was it also because indoors the net was further away than probably most people can have in a garage or in a backyard.

    The iPhone is prone to shutting down because of overheating when using the Rapsodo. I bought a Rapsodo about two years ago, and I ran it using an iPhone 7. In sixty to seventy degree Fahrenheit weather everything was fine, but any hotter and the phone would display the heat warning message and the Rapsodo app would stop working. I just updated to the iPhone 13 because support will end shortly for the iPhone 7. The iPhone 13 runs cooler, and I go to the range early in the morning before it gets too hot. Today, I hit a large bucket and recorded every shot using the iPhone 13 without the system shutting down. I couldn’t do this with the older phone - it would stop working after about twenty minutes. I’m now getting more use out of the Rapsodo, and I hope this info helps anyone experiencing the same problem.

    Good video, I tried the Rapsodo and it absolutely awful. When my iPhone wasn’t overheating, or losing connection I found the app and user interface to be clunky and counterintuitive.
    Picked up the Garmin G80 and it has been great. I wasn’t sure about the numbers but I took it to PGA Superstore and it was pretty accurate (+/- 4-5 yards) when compared to what I was getting in their hitting bay which was pretty impressive and the best part is it’s also a full functioning GPS unit.
    Also you can play any of the preloaded courses on the unit which is an awesome feature! I played Pebble Beach the other day lol. You can also compete with others and there is a great target training option as well.

    I like the point system but......You dinged the the Rapsodo because of a some inconsequential items..1. Battery life-your not gonna be out there at each session for more than a couple of hours anyway and your phone will be an issue before the unit is. 2. Durability-you dinged it because your iPhone overheats...thats not on the unit itself but the phones. Durability should be on how long do you think the unit will hold up quality wise. 3. no Android use-I get it but its not really measuring its value against the other units. ...I do not have a unit YET so I appreciate the analysis. Thanks for the video I follow all of them.

    I had an SC300 and found it terrible for accuracy. It consistently gave me an exaggerated carry distance. Not only do I know my carry distances pretty well (I’m a scratch handicap) but I compared this device to a Trackman and again, carry distance was WAY off with the SC300. I presently have a Mevo which I found to be much more accurate. I have never tried the R10. I might have to try one. Thanks for the thorough review.

    the reason why Rapsodo MLM only supports iOS (and not even all iOS models for that matter) is because the device is camera dependent and the software engineers cannot develop for all cameras out there--it is simply too cost inhibitive. granted, because it even uses the camera it is the only model here which has sensor fusion (use of camera+doppler radar in its flight modelling), which is unheard of in this price bracket. because of this it is the one of two in this roundup that has horizontal launch angle (the other being the R10) which is again, a BIG BIG feature in this price bracket--you need the $2000 launch monitors for this. that said the 8hour battery life is a red herring because your session time is limited by your phone battery which is definitely not going to last 8hours with the camera on the entire time. you are lucky to get a few hours, and worse than that if the phone overheats you lose half the data features from the loss of camera. and it also does not give you apex height unless you pay the monthly pro subscription. i agree with your penalizing Rapsodo for failing to cater to the 60-70% market share of android users.
    i disagree with your portability ranking though as the G80, Mevo and Rapsodo are all equally good. and the R10 should be the second worst considering the size of the pouch.
    the SC300i was overpenalized on ease of use considering you scored it zero because of the app --it does not even require an app to work. this feature is not something you can say for more than half of the contenders in this roundup. SC300i also gives spin but this is an app feature. the app i agree is garbage--it is extremely buggy: fails to delete data correctly, sometimes stores data into the wrong club, and does not pull data from the device if you sync it midway through a session instead of at the beginning. there is zero support as well. i am a former owner of the SC300i and sold it because of the shitty app and am now using the R10. i agree with the accuracy and battery life score--it is excellent.

    Now for people that do not have an at-home golf range/sim, how's the g80 stack up? I absolutely love the feature you use often in your videos of tracking real distances on your shots. It's actually more expensive than I thought it'd be though

      Yes I wish they dropped the price a bit. It’s getting a little long in the tooth. Unfortunately it really doesn’t work as a home simulator. It’s a good launch monitor outdoors and also has the GPS functions I like.

    I purchased the R10 but not had much time to use it yet. I am going to an indoor dome today that has Toptracer so I can do some comparisons against it. Planing to go there twice a week during the winter to practice my new single plane swing. So I have a somewhat related question for viewers. What is the coldest weather you golf in that is comfortable enough to enjoy a round. I live in Michigan and the season is about over, but a lot of course are still open. With the weather in the 50s it seems decent enough to golf maybe nine. Just wondering. Great job again with the comparison. Seemed very fair to me and not just because I have an R10 !!

      42’ish and up is still manageable but anything below 40 and certainly in the 30s requires a golf cart cover and heater, UA undershirt and jacket, and 2 layers of pants, etc. I’m in my 40s now and I don’t care for it but my Dad is in his late 60s and still goes out there with his regulars!

    R10 accuracy is good outdoors but indoors it's not good. Distance is off by 10-20 yards. Stay away from Rapsodo they had the R Motion which was a good sim but dropped all support for it left users in the wind when this device came out.

      I tested my r10 indoors against a Trackman and it was very accurate. I was hitting into a net about 15 feet away which I think helps. I would say you need at least 10 feet from ball to net, and you need 6 to 8 feet from device to ball, possibly more than the length of an average garage.

    Intersteing that the Rapsodo finished so low. My Golf Spy had it #1 over these same units. I guess to each his own. I would have liked to see the accuracy tested against a GC Quad so the results would have been tangible in lieu of feel. Great video though. Keep it coming!! I forgot that Rapsodo has the coach connect which allows you to send videos directly to coaches for advice.

    Lots of good points made - thanks for the review. You dinged the SC300i a little for portability’s due to size, but when considering the case, it fits in a bag more easily than the R10, which is uber-thick. You also don’t need a phone or any other device - just turn it on, place it on the ground and start hitting. Hard to beat that for portability. I’d still prefer the R10, though. Now, if I could only find one…

    • @drewgwins6073
      @drewgwins6073 2 роки тому

      Prgr is really good for swing speed and ball speed. Overall distance isn't as good. But for swing speed (where you don't even need to hit a ball) is really good for the price.
      Just don't lose it.

      Outdoor net where I can find shade for the Rapsodo helps the device work better than when the device and iPhone gets fried on the range when the sun is beating down. Now if you hit balls at sunrise and sunset no overheat issues I guess.

  • @cjpaul8571
    @cjpaul8571 2 роки тому

    Overall good video, don’t get me wrong. But for anyone scouring the comments for feedback I have some thoughts. I don’t own any of these so I have no bias. But I am in the market based on tons of research I’ve done your results seem way way off. You might be the only person on UA-cam who doesn’t have the Rapsodo as the most accurate or at least tied. I’ll trust the videos which compare it with GC Quad or Trackman. The Garmin which you have in first has tons of features but accuracy seems like a big problem from dozens of videos I’ve watched. It’s consistently short, likely because launch angle seems to be consistently wrong. The spin numbers, especially, side spin are not reliably accurate. When its wrong, its not just a little wrong. I’ve seen multiple reviewers show it pick up a hook as a slice and vice versa, on camera. Finally, the Rapsodo losing 2 points is kind of silly. That’s not relevant if you have an iPhone. If you have an iPhone you should simply add those points back and if you have Android you can’t use it. It should have been a “caveat” not a score deduction IMO. My personal ranking after hours of research would probably be a tie between Rapsodo and SC300i for 1st. Tie for Mevo and Garmin R10 for 2nd. Pick between those 4 based on features and form factor and I wouldn’t consider any of the others as a launch monitor personally. The little Garmin G80 could be a consideration if you want a GPS primarily but it isn’t half the launch monitor of the others. The Ernest Sports just isn’t competitive IMO.

    Watching now, just throwing out that I sold my Rapsodo due to inconsistent (and usually 10-20% short) distances. Also, since you have use the iPhone with it, and the phone overheats after 15min in the sun, you’re sessions will be short. If they could fix the accuracy it would be great, because the interface is awesome.

    You can see if the ball has gone left or right… you can feel why it’s gone left or right but if you really need something to tell you.. if you leave the face way open your smash will be down and your distance will be down.. if you come over the top and pull it then you’re smash will go up and your distance will go up
