Irony of the story is that when Lencho got money(70 pesos ) from the letter which he had sent he thought that he wanted all those 100 pesos but instead he got 70 so he thought that either the colleagues or the postman would have taken all 30 pesos but the reality was the postmaster have helped him to get those 70 pesos. And meaning of irony- The thing which is opposite of reality

On receiving this letter , the Postman and the Postmaster broke out laughing. However , the latter became serious and fascinated by the firm belief lencho has in God and in order to not shake his belief , he decided to answer the letter . The Postmaster gave some money and the other employees were also obliged to give a part of their salary for the 'act of charity'. However they could collect only 70 pesos. As lencho received the letter , he counted the money in envelope but they were less. This made lencho furious and he accused the post office employees for taking the rest of the money for God could neither have made a mistake nor denied lencho what he asked. Hence , this is the irony in this situation that the people who should be praised and thanked are being called a bunch of crooks.
