Vibraphone improvisation on Secret of the Forest from Chrono Trigger! Originally composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. MP3 on my Soundcloud here! / chrono-trigger-secret-...
Hello, Mr. Perry. I would just like to take the time to thank you. You have been a huge inspiration for me, as a percussionist, to continue my studies at the collegiate level, and your work at OCRemix is some of my favorite. You helped me to realize what I wanted to do with my life, and for that I thank you. Keep calm and drum on, good sir.
thank you for posting this Doug! I love the way it sounds and to see how passionate you play the instrument, a true inspiration! Please do more covers!! We could even back you on things like patreon and could become a nice side project :), just saying... Anyways keep up the amazing work and cant wait to hear more!!
Thanks so much! Unfortunately, I don't have sheet music to this one, since I improvised it and learned it by ear. Maybe someone will want to transcribe it...?
not sure if you guys cares but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can watch pretty much all the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my girlfriend for the last days =)
Great tone on that Vibraphone! Very clean and lucid. Excellent performance too. What Mic's are you using for your spaced pair, if you don't mind me asking?
I recorded this at my school's tech center, so I don't remember exactly what these mics were... I think they were by Galaxy? Something space like! I'll try to remember what they were...
nice :) this is definitely different in its own unique and distinct manner. Possibly do crystal caves from DK 64? I think some parts of it have a similar tone to the vibraphone.
have you considered collaborating with david erick ramos? i think your styles would compliment each other very well, and you share a love of video games.
Awesome vid! Please check out my ambient remix of this song if you get a chance! Chrono Trigger - 'Secret of the Forest' Ambient Remix - by Zack Sottolano
From now on every time I rewatch this (not in an automated mix) I'll add another thumbs up: 👍👍
Stumbled across this gem 9 years later. Great work. Cheers from the future!

this deserves more views.
Can't believe Yasunori Mitsuda composed Chrono game music at age 22.
Fuuuck my life
This is so jazzy and smooth! When it's played in this style it's almost like you could riff off into Fragrance of Dark Coffee at any moment.
that was mind blowing to watch the xylophone actually being played.
Wow this sounds so different, i really love the soul it has!
I know this was only just uploaded today, but you need 100,000's of views on this video. Very very well done. Thank you for the video!

That was... something... so inspiring! Thx for that! I'm a better human beeing after watching your video!
This is sublime, a simply lovely interpretation of the tune! And the instrument enhances that rather mystical sound of the original. :-)
Damn I love this instrument, wish I could have one at home! This is excellent!
