- After historic hurricane Beryl tracked across the western MDR into the Caribbean, then into the Gulf and made landfall near Housten, TX. The season is not over yet and will likely be much busier one. But when will it get active in the tropics again?

David, my first bad storm was Betsy in 1965. Look that up. My dad and I got stranded in New Orleans. We took shelter in a hotel but all the windows blew out and we lost our truck. Most of the others I`ve been in were cat 1 & 2 and those are still very very bad to be trapped in. I have nowhere to go and have to just ride them out and it`s so frightening.
My first storm was Hurricane David in 1979 I was only 11 years old when David eye wall went over my hometown of Savannah. I’ll never forget as a kid watching people fight over ice because our lights were out for a week. When David went over Savannah it was only a Cat I and Savannah looked like a bomb hit it. Good thing my dad was close friends with a guy who owned a disco, because we snuck behind “Uptown Nightclub” and he gave us some ice. Several people got killed because they were robbed of ice, that’s how bad it was. Then years later, I was a member of New Orleans Saints when Hurricane Katrina hit. We left for San Antonio and played the rest of the year between San Antonio and San Jose, California
@@gregd4633 Some of the Saints and LSU players used our boat dock when we lived on the north end of Toledo Bend Lake so their stuff would be safe. Bobby Herbert was supposed to come but never did. I think I had a heat stroke after hurricane Laura. No power for three weeks and not even a breeze for several days. Mosquitoes were so bad but it was 120 degrees in the house until around 11pm at night. I`ve grown to fear these things and I worry every year. I`m building a solar setup for a window AC and having to learn electronics but I should have it working the right way by August. And I`m really afraid of electricity. I`ve been getting parts for over 3 years.
@@gregd4633 I got portable solar power stations for my freezers and a little dorm fridge...two for each so I can charge one while the other runs it. It`s very hard to get ice or anything else after these storms. I used over 100 dollars in batteries trying to power little fans after Laura so I started learning solar and getting parts to build a larger system so I can get relief from the heat.
That would be a great show to do David. All about various priced generators, solar systems for power outages after storms. What to but to hook up your phone, small frig & some lights for people who cannot afford a expensive generator.
@@windingroad9678 A 600w portable solar power station can run a small dorm fridge. But the best thing to do is get a 100ah LiFeP04 battery, Victron 100/30 solar charge controller, around 400 to 500 watts of panels, and a 1000 watt pure sine wave inverter. You have to learn a lot though to build a safe system. I`m doing it and it isn`t easy. I`ve been getting parts for years. You can charge various batteries and devices with a 60 to 100 watt portable folding solar panel with USB charging ports or rig up a 12v USB car charger to a cheaper 100w glass solar panel to charge devices and power a USB fan.
Oh man this news is so terrible. I live in Louisiana. I`ve been in way too many of these storms and we lose power for weeks and sometimes longer. Nobody here can afford fuel for generators and often there simply is none available for many days, no communications, and trees blocking roads.
It’s not going to be as bad as they want you to believe. I live jeanerette Louisiana and the last real storm we had was Andrew.
How can you say that when Jeanette has never had no real bad storms so u can that for y'all that it won't be as bad as what they say. But she must live in other parts of Louisiana because other parts of Louisiana like New Orleans baton rouge Slidell lake Charles because what does storm do come we do have lights that be off for weeks at a time and trees in the middle of the street but of course you from Jeanette.you ain't never experienced it

@@AriesBloodstoneno y'all have not if u do your history on hurricanes for Louisiana. You're not even on the list of hurricanes to hit your area new Orleans yes lake Charles yes Jeanette no . Andrew did hit y'all it hit by Morgan City not jeanette.so maybe in your area all lights don't be out for days and trees don't be in the middle of the street for y'all but I know in other populated areas like where I live in New Orleans and other places they do

A lot of the isolated ground level wind gusts/mini twisters aren`t recorded. Stand outside between the bands of a cat 1 storm and you`ll see these pockets of rotation and focused gusts and how powerful they are. They can do a lot of damage.

David, you have to warn people to prepare. Before Laura hit I tried to warn my relatives to prepare and they called me a paranoid fearmonger and refused to prepare at all. We got very lucky because we came very close to getting seriously injured from trees falling and the roof nearly came off when a mini twister hit us. We could see light through the cracks in the living room ceiling.
I went thu it with Hurricane Irene coming north as a Cat 3. They said the windows of the NYC skyscrapers could blow out, the County Executive quietly ordered cadaver dogs to find the bodies that would be under debris. Then they said it will just brush the island as a cat 2. I packed up and headed north. I ended up in Pennsylvania and that's where the storm came. 12.69 inches of rain. My can wouldn't go any further. God stopped me. Devastation 5 miles away from me. God protected me. Trust your instinct, stand your ground and pray.
When I got home and had the car checked they could not find out why it would not move when I was driving days earlier.
It’s a good thing where protected in Connecticut we’re always protected thank goodness
Although beryl didn't hit us directly in Jamaica we still lost 3 lives and the western parishes still are without electricity. If the season keeps on doing this the Caribbean and US are DOOOOMED. 😢

CSU has upped its outlook for the season with 25 named storms, 12 hurricanes, 6 major hurricanes
Personally, I predict 25 named storms, 14 hurricanes, and 7 major hurricanes for 2024. I do feel this season will be unlike any other. I would not be surprised to see a 200 mph hurricane in August or September. Maybe the Atlantic could see a storm similar to Hurricane Patricia (2015) with 215 mph winds?
I am concerned that could happen. I would not be surprised to see a 200mph storm over the eastern Gulf. 25 total storms? Probably not. I am more concerned about extremely intense storms with extreme impacts.
I just found your channel and found it too late. I live in Houston and was completely unprepared for Beryl. Massive flooding and loss of power.
Currently being baked alive inside my home with no AC and a heat index of 105 degrees Fahrenheit lol

My prediction: 20-26NS 11-17H 6-10MH.
The reason for the large amount of hurricanes and major hurricanes is that i feel a lot of the systems that move through the mdr, gulf, and Caribbean will be able to explode due to the record SST's and OHC much more than they wiuld in a normal year, leaving a higher ratio of NS:H:MH than other seasons

Heck even hurricanes don't like high pressure systems. Perhaps in the future reading high pressure and low pressure can make forecasting super accurate.
Here in Houston power still out from Beryl there was no way in the world that was a c1 the damage in my neighborhood is devastating
There were higher gusts. That’s why. Also, Houston is the greenest major city in America.
Well, the only good news I can bring as they decreased the landfall probability in my sttate of New York from 41% down to 37%. We could still have seven major hurricane eve if we end up with 17 name storms. It could be a quite a busy 7-10 weeks of a peak. Coastal residents are reminded that only takes one regardless of the activity forecast to change your lives for a very long time.
Wonder if it's NC year? Been awhile, yes Florence but actually we been blessed, that year we got Bertha and Fran, was rough, wonder if that high pressure setup this year is unfavorable for us? Any smart ones out there who may be more in tune? I'm in Wilmington NC by the way

It’s an Country off the West Coast of Africa made up of several islands
Cabo Verde are islands off Africa where the storms exit Africa before coming across the ocean.
The new generation of meteorologists and weather enthusiast refers to storms coming off the continent of Africa as MDR or main development region. But the original name for these storms was called “Cape Verde Hurricanes” and Cape Verde season. Cabo Verde is one of several barrier islands off of Africa
There was a music group when I was growing up in the late 70’s nickname was “The Boys From The Mighty Cape Verde”named Tavares. Even though the brothers were born and raised in Boston, but their family origin is Cape Verde

Did you see Beryl it became a C5 this early this hurricane season will be on another level if not the doesn’t matter how many storms we get it is how strong and potentially damaging they are
@@Eastsidet03 And immedaitely hit a wall of wind shear which is common in that part of the Carribean this time of year and quickly fell apart
@@junkiexl86 Okay? So? The historic SST's and OHC allowed it to become a category 5 system in the eastern Caribbean. It doesn't matter that later on in it's life it encountered wind shear. It was still able to become a category 5 in the first few days on July, showing that this season will be one for the record books as SST's and OHC is already high enough to support category 5 hurricanes during early July.
@@caba.vrc1 I get what he's saying. We have definitely heard this before. It's midway through July and we've had 2 named storms lol this is underwhelming compared to what was advertised
