Robin, thank you for the heart. I want you to know that I always make my shawls big and comfy. I am only 4 foot eight or nine, and weigh about 100 pounds. I turned 81 on September 11. I love wrapping myself, in a big, warm shawl. The solid granny will, I think, always be my favorite because it does. What a show is meant to do. A proper jaw is meant to keep one warm and comfy. This shawl it’s Seville.❤ I apologize for any typos or misspellings. I am legally blind, and I like to use the speaker function of my iPad Pro. It’s a big help, but sometimes it seems to have a mind of your own.
Oh! Finally! One that makes sense to me… you wear a shawl for warmth… while all the other shawl patterns are very pretty… they are extremely holey… not sure how that will keep you warm! Thank you! Definitely starting one tonight and I have the perfect yarn for that too! ❤
Robin, thank you so much for this tutorial. I have used this pattern many times, and I have to say that it is my favorite show. It creates a nice soft wrap to cuddle up in. I have one that I made out ofPuzzle yarn that I use nearly every day. I absolutely love it, and I am getting ready to make another one in a different colorway. This show works up quickly, and always looks great. No wonder you have had so many request for it. Sandy, from Cincinnati
I followed you stich for stich on my trial ball that i keep for this purpose , that's a lot it looked beautifully. I will now make sevral for Christmas as this is very easy. At 81 and just recovering from hand surgery due to carpal tunnel syndrome. My physio therapist said I should be using the hand more. Many that for this easy pattern
I have tried to do this all weekend and I turned your tutorial on. I have finally found success .. you seemed to be patient and didn’t rush along thank you.. 🙏
I must have watched 15-20 videos on how to make this particular item. Finally I stumbled upon yours. Beyond simple but so beautiful. Thank you!! You got a subscriber for life.
Well, here I am crocheting yet another one of your beautiful shawls. I am working this one up in "Feels like Butta" in the color way of Dusty Blue. This is going to be the softest and coziest of all of them. I think I have made about 10 of your granny and solid granny shawls. I love them all. I made one HUGE one with 3 large skeins and it is almost like a blanket. I can't wait for cooler weather to sit by the fire wrapped up in my shawls. Thank you so much, your granny shawl was the very first thing I learned to crochet and there is no stopping me now.
Thank you Robin:) I have used this pattern several times and it is so lovely and easy to follow. I use this pattern to makes ponchos:) I make two and then sew together and put a picot on the edging. Thanks again for both a great tutorial and a great pattern:)
This is beautiful and perfect for beginners! Before I watched this video I literally only knew the single crochet stitch, I went and watched your magic loop one and a double crochet one and came back to follow along and its mind bogglingly easy!! Thank you for a wonderful video for something cozy and simple!💕
Robin , you are the best! I already started making this shawl for my daughter. I watched endless videos looking for one which is not complicated and still pretty. This video of yours is like my dream come true. Cannot thank you enough.
I just picked up a beautiful, soft colourway yarn today, at at a discount store of all places. So I decided to try this shawl with it and so far it, wonderful. You have so many wonderful projects and tutorials on your page, it's become my go to for anything crochet. Thanks so much.
This has been added to my favorites. I already made one with a different yarn. Got the Caron Cloud Cakes & was looking for a pattern to use & decided to try this one. So far, so good. I'll try to remember to let you know how it turned out. Thanks.
I made this shawl and love it, but the sport weight yarn made it a bit of a challenge to keep it on while wearing it, when the shawl was a bit shorter. So, for my second shawl I modified it a bit and I am thrilled with the results. What I did was to do a second increase at the start and end of each of the first ten rows, in the second and next to the last stitch of each of these rows. After ten rows, I only made the increase in the first and last stitches (as well as at the center back, of course). These additional few stitches made it so that the middle of the top of the shawl curves slightly in the area that falls at the neck, so it wraps more naturally around the neck and shoulders. For Christmas I am making shawls out of Red Heart Heat Saver yarn, which has a great deal of body to it, I would say it is almost stiff, really. But by modifying the neck, it wraps beautifully around the neck and shoulders in a more natural way, so the shawl fits better and stays in place without trying to fall down the wearer’s back. With softer yarns, it would not be needed, but with yarns that have more weight, it is a small change that makes a big difference. Hope this helps!
So grateful for this pattern! I have been trying many different patterns using boho spirit and nothing was working well. This one is working beautifully😊 You are a brilliant teacher - I have taught myself to crochet watching your videos and I’m obsessed. My late sister was a very good crocheter and I wish I could show her how I am progressing. Thank you for your excellent videos x
I LOVE this shawl, Robin! It's so pretty & easy to do. I'm in a rehab center for my hip & making one to wrap myself in. Thank you for such a nice pattern/project. ☺😉🤗
Hello from the Great Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. I've had a picture in my mind for days of a shawl/scarf and have been looking for a tutorial and thanks to you I found it! I'm so happy!! Thank you! Your nails are the bomb! 🐾❤
I know this video is old now, but I just want to thank you for this simple pattern. Without people like you, people like me would never think of something so simple yet so pretty. And the link you have to the magic circle/loop is the only one that I have actually understood...so again thank you very much :)
That is super easy. I just started crocheting around this time last year and haven't made a shawl yet . I am so making this my first crochet shawl. Thank you for the video and your fingernails are pretty.
Thank you so much this was by far the easiest granny Shar I watched several UA-cam videos and messed up on every single one I followed your step-by-step and it was the most easiest want to do thank you so much for sharing very interesting looks beautiful I’m gonna start mines thanks again keep up the good work
Great tutorial. I started making this as soon as I watched the video and am working on it and loving it. I have a lot if small single skeins, so it's a mix and match sort of project.
Yes I love this pattern very much .I make this shawl in golden honey colour because I love this colour very much. All the best for your future vedios. God always blessed your talent.💋💋
This shawl is absolutely gorgeous and SO easy to work up! Thank you so much for such an amazing tutorial. Now I have a great pattern for all of my Caron Cakes! Your nails are amazing, BTW!!! 💙
I really like this pattern for a shawl. This pattern is easy to follow. I have watched some that a complicated to follow. I am making one now with a variegated blue yarn. Thanks for sharing your video with all of us. ❤
Later: The hardest part was getting the magic ring right! I always have trouble with it.. but it works.. The pattern is so easy.. The best part is that I think the pattern will work well with the Ice Cream Parfait yarn I am using.. The whole point is to not have to knit the shawl... Knitting takes way too long, snd I make too many mistakes. Thank you again, for solving my problem,, Added.. I am nearly done with my pretty shawl. And I am already planning another one...i want to use a warmer yarn next time. The Lion Brand Ice Cream Parfait produced a very pretty fabric... all warm, well saturated pastels, with no white. I’m very happy with the shawl, and I hope my friend likes it.
Thank you! This will be perfect for the Prayer Shawl I am making for a friend. My yarn is a 3, so a solid fabric will make up for the thinness.. I want to make one with a heavier yarn... I see you are using a Clover H-8 hook. I love my Clover hooks. They are so comfortable in my hand. The best part is that each size has it’s very own color. Thus us a huge help for those of us who are visually impaired. A tip... Rsje a picture if your project, with the hook you are using right on top of it.. That way, you will never have to worry about forgetting what size you are using...
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I started working this as a "how to" for the technique and have loved it so much I've used 2 balls and have ordered 2 more to finish up a decent size snuggly shawl (Boho Spirit in Eden.) I will be using your tassel tutorial to finish the project.
Thank you for this easy tutorial I have never crochet to Shaw and found it very easy I will get right at it so I will have it in the fall God bless you
Thanks very much. I am more of a reader so thanks for written instr7ctions as well. This is so easy and fast, use the pattern for our church club where we knit and crochet shawls and scarfs for those in need. With this easy pattern i can make a lot in no time at all.
Hi, Robin. I have probably made about 10 of your shawls, both open and closed granny. It's getting chilly here in Arkansas, in the states and I am making this up in Bernat Crushed Velvet in colorway Cranberry Cider. Love, Love, Love your tutorials. Stay warm and mind how you go. I almost forgot, I am adding tiny little bells with clear thread, so you can't see them but you can sure hear them, though they are ever so tiny.
Hi Robin!!! I enjoyed this tutorial very much!!! Your manicure is so beautiful and not a distraction as some said. I focused more on the pattern instead of your nails.
Thank you again Robin for another excellent tutorial. I appreciate the link to the magic ring. You explained it very well and I was able to accomplish it with ease. I am working this up in a lovely gray tweedy type yarn. It is going to be so pretty and so snug. I followed your advice on previous tutorials and make all of my shawls huge. I can basically cover up in them whilst sitting and this shall be no exception.
i'm working on one of these using hobbii yarn. specifically, the twister halloween limited edition one. can't remember the name of the color but it's making such a beautiful shawl. it's my first time making one, so i hope it comes out alright. but since i'm watching your tutorial, it should be simple because you explain things so well. (: anyway, have a wonderful day (or night, depending on when you read this) & thank you for being so good at teaching me new things even though i've been crocheting for around three years, i'm still learning. much love to you & yours, miss. dos
My newest project is coming along nicely, although, I fudged it be increasing at both ends instead of just the beginning. Not taking it apart to fix though, I still like how it's turning out.
Thank you so much for simplifying this process and making it easy to follow. I'm trying to understand why you're able to make it work this way when other patterns take a more complicated approach to achieve the same result. For example, why would anyone do a ch3 and count it as a stitch when there's just no need?

Perfect! Was looking for something to work up for my mom and can I just say I love how you hold your working yarn.. I'm still trying to find a comfortable way to hold mine 😫
I don't really hold it at all - I can't do the fancy shmancy wrapping around my finger like most do 🤔 It just kind of dangles through my fingers and does it's own thing! Don't worry too much about how you hold it, it'll sort itself out 😊

Your awesome for having the written instructions on the description. I was having a hard time watching it and trying to do it at the same time.
