Great video. You can store stuff in zip bags in you bottle when not in use. You may also need cash, a slim 5000 mah powerbank, a pen, extra pair of socks, some extra zip bags and zip ties, a map and a list of important phone numbers and data in case your phone dies. And put in some candy or snack to keep the mood up if it's a bad day and a long hike. Cheers
I think the Mylar sleeping bags are a good upgrade to the Mylar blankets and only a few bucks more, I also find that it might be good to add one of those mylar emergency tents they cost around $8-10 and just does a better job as a shelter I feel compared to using just the blankets. Dave Canterbury always recommends adding a 55 gallon black contractor bag or 2, can be used as a ground sheet or part of your shelter as well.
Your flashlight is great. I have one in each vehicle, wife and daughter carry one in their purse. My suggestion about water, you need a container to carry water. If you keep the life straw, I’d recommend a Kleenex canteen stainless steel water bottle. You can boil water if needed. How can someone reach out to you on a pastoral level?
I enjoy looking at kits like this. They are a great mental exercise! I would leave the bottle in since it is a good way of carrying water. Add a nesting cup so that you can boil and make hot Ramen. A few years ago I got a couple 5X7 tarps from Walmart. They fold up to about the size of 3 space blankets. It is small, lightweight, has grommets, and is strong. Best of all they were $10. It makes a much better and tougher shelter. Use the space blanket as a moisture barrier or to wrap up in.
Thanks for sharing. And thanks for actually trying it out like you said. Many folks comment without trying- and hide behind a keyboard. Kudos for that! Subbed
Just found you and enjoyed the video!! Personal experience with butane, it doesn't like the extreme cold. I was fire training in a Canadian winter and ironically they couldn't get the butane torch lit to start the training fire. 😂. As long as you have other options or just keep that little torch in an inside pocket so your body heat warms it up, it is all workable. That headlight is pretty cool, the one thing I'd like it to have is a red light option, or other colour to help eyes stay adjusted at night. 🤷 Again I really enjoyed the video and it makes me think I should revisit my bag sooner than later. Cheers 🤠🥃
Here's some options to replace at least one of those cheap mylar blankets. The Pathfinder Survival Blanket ($23) is basically a 7x5 foot tarp with one mylar/reflective side and is much more durable than the chap mylar blankets. Another option for shelter is the Pathfinder Tarp ($52). Its dimensions are 7'8"x7'8" and it makes a good small shelter that's not very heavy and packs into a small space. The last option is the SOL Escape Bivvy in either regular size or XL ($70 for regular size, $80 for XL). It's not only waterproof but it's also breathable which helps regulate condensation on the inside of the bag (and also onto your clothing). It's very light and packs into a small space. I recently got one so I haven't used it overnight yet but I tested it out for a few hours in 45-50 degree temps and it worked great. I wore a sweatshirt and sweatpants and put a REI microfiber/microfleece towel (REI Multi Towel Deluxe) around my head because I couldn't find a beanie anywhere in my home. I was also barefoot, btw. They worked so well that I think I'll use them as my main sleep system in temps down to freezing or a bit below freezing from now on. BTW, I'm not affiliated with Pathfinder or SOL. I've bought several of their products and they've all worked very well so far.
Middle/West Tn Neighbor here. Sir I work nights and just came across your channel tonight while in some downtime. Enjoyed your video and if you ever in the Land Between the Lakes area give us a shout. Can’t wait to tune in to your priors and upcoming vids. Take care boss and keep getting outdoors !
A proper poncho like the Onewind, and a better blanket of some sorts. Maybe the Helikon Tex Swagman basic or something similar. Oh and a change of socks. Always pack spare socks.
I'll second that. I carry a poncho and liner for summer in winter I add a bivy sack and a ozark trail backpacking sleeping bag it's $17 and weights a pound. Personally first aid kit are useless weight. Ducktape and alcohol wipes aspirin, Imodium are all I need. I'd switch sunscreen to a small tube and bug repellent. Also coat your stuff with permethrin. I 💯% respect anyone that tries their gear.
I have two rechargeable headlamps. But they don't last long. I have a couple others to take three AAA batteries they last a long time I just buy up some batteries
Just put a tourniquet in the kit, DO NOT PLAN TO IMPROVISE ONE! Also tampons do not work for a GSW, make a good trauma kit and use that because these improvised items claimed to work DO NOT! Granted most may never need stuff like that, but I have before in regular everyday life more than once. Anything intended for saving your life SHOULD NOT be the bottom of the barrel cheapest stuff you can find. You don't want your family to put "he saved $70 by not getting a trauma kit, and planned to improvise" on your tombstone......

Great video. I am a smaller channel myself and only watch small channels because they have better content. Just subbed. Keep it up

Add batteries for your Streamlight, carry a extra loaded magazine, spork,
You missed the 10 c’s of survival. And exactly how do you plan on boiling water?
Here in Georgia, summer months, Mosquito netting! 👍
They are BRUTAL here in TN too! Hopefully the fire will keep them away!
Don’t forget your Gloves.
Thats a bright light
Did you say the head lamp is rechargeable? How long will the light last? I like the fact that I wouldn’t have to feed it batteries
The batteries are each bigger than AA's. Can't speak yet to longevity :)
I have two rechargeable headlamps. But they don't last long. I have a couple others to take three AAA batteries they last a long time I just buy up some batteries
Something small to cook in !
Finally, you listen to your father. Compass
You forgot your gloves!!

How can you here with ear plugs? What if somthing happens when your asleep
Mentions the beauty of Streamlight then experiments with a Chinesium light.
Your life could depend on the reliability of your headlamp. Hard Pass.
