I don’t think anyone has ever summarized how doom and ultrakill are different and should be treated so well. I am neither a doom guy or an ultrakill guy, I am a doom and ultrakill guy.
ULTRAKILL is a DOOM of this day. Because Hakita recreated not DOOM exactly but the meaning of DOOM. DOOM gave depth to shooters, DOOM tried to take everything good from other games but not to be like other games. Mix everything games ever had and also become unique because of the way you mix mechanics in the game. DOOM has music, this music is inspired by many albums but despite taking ideas from those albums music is unique. Gameplay- the same thing done with music. Artstyle? It's literally Christian lore mixed with sci-fi in game's own way. Doom is not a ""copy->paste"" thing but DOOM is the ""inspire->improve->mix->win"" thing. Likely ULTRAKILL devs went the same way, they repeated not the DOOM but the process of creating DOOM with different result. And succeeded.

DOOM added something from another genre that players haven't tried and definitely will like(shooter+3d+bullet hell+management), it was it's key to success, and ultrakill(shooter+ hack-n-slashers+platformers) does the same thing- it brings something other that players haven't seen in shooters and definitely will like. It's not about just having similar mechanics, it's about the idea
My comparison of modern Doom and Ultrakill is that while Doom is kinda like Quake meets God of War, Ultrakill is more like Quake meets DMC. The weapons being moves rather than full toolsets is true in both, but that idea is more extreme in Ultrakill. In Doom, you have to think about resources more but Ultrakill is more about taking your small arsenal of extremely powerful tools and just pushing them as far as they’ll go and be as fast as possible with the beatdown
the first time i fought The Corpse of King Minos in ULTRAKILL, it was so cool. The insane amount of build up to this fight as you steadily make your way through the tunnel, and you reach the end, picking up a red skull and putting it on the pedistal, only for the ceiling to collapse and a giant 20 story tall zombie was suddenly lumbering over me, and then when it tried to punch me, i met its punch with my own, sending his flying, like it was an anime. peak.
Personally, the best feeling shotgun ive ever used is the punisher from Helldivers 2. It kills most fodder bugs in one shot at close to mid range, the stagger of it absolutley shuts down stalkers and brood commanders, and it reloads one shell at a time, so you never feel like you wasted a shot.
Hey! Amazing video as always! If you're looking for bad shit insane weapons, have you heard of Killing Floor? Especially Killing Floor 2. It gives you a large sandbox of weapons that are as powerful as they are insane. For example, there's a rocket launcher that heals your teammates by exploding them, a weapon that allows you to shoot big-ass syringes at enemies literally turning them into a blood fountain, and a weapon that sucks enemies insides out of them, allowing you to throw them back at the enemies. And that's just a few weapons for 1 out of 10 classes. Anyhow, your videos are peak, can't wait to see you in another 6 to 8 months ;)
in Nightmare Reaper I had a minigun that shot shurikens that bounced off walls and also had a freezing effect. Sometimes in that game you get a weapon with the Random Projectile trait which can lead to some really goofy bad weapons, but sometimes you get an insane combo like rapid fire shurikens. Because of the sheer variety of stuff in that game I could probably play several times over and never see this combo again.
I find it incredibly clever that sisyphus prime was actually intentionally designed with parrying in mind. His attacks force you to dodge, and they are absolutely RELENTLESS, so you use up all your dashes really fast and are left with no I-frames. The terminal basically tell you that Sisyphus will kill you if you don't parry, because parrying refreshes your dashes. Idk I just find it really cool that they centered the fight around a mechanic that is usually only useful in perfecting your gameplay, and just said "screw you, do it or else". (yes you can do it without parrying, but its incredibly tough since the fight has the mechanic at the forefront)
As someone who also played ultrakill before titanfall2 i can confirm i had the same feeling of the movement being slow and unfun but after playing for a bit more holyyyyyyyy its so fun istg, thought i was the only one who had that feeling when first playing good too know im not
Honestly, speaking of shotgun, I believe the game that make them the best (imo) is hellsinger. Just the way you vaporise demon in rythm with this sing is incredible, and I've never seen something like it.
I'm kinda sad that you didn't talk about Katana Zero, the game where parrying is mandatory and you can deflect bullets WITH YOUR SWORD. If you haven't played it, please, PLEASE give it a shot.

Hear me out, the og fortnite pump shotgun is so good, is a risk reward weapon in the sense that if you aim it corretcly at your oponent can get an one tap but if you don't the shitgun pumps really slow, meaning your oponent gets an oportunity to hit you instead, and also it just feels powerful
Dark souls parrying is fine, the reason its not as effective as parrying is on other games is because it’s supposed to be emergency use only (imo), as you still take damage when parrying and thus should only use it when absolutely necessary.

I recommend Zenless Zone Zero for making nearly every weapon feel like you can 1v1 the sun. But of all weapons, the best ones have been from Terraria Calamity. The crafting trees are larger and the weapons are cinematic. My favorites have been Seraphim and Supernova from the rogue class
you need to check out the melee weapons (and check out the shotguns too) of THE FINALS they are insanely fun and actually viable and balanced one of the light classes melees is a sword that does a lunge and a normal attack, the lunge you can combo with the dash specialisation to just style on shit another light one is a dagger than can insta kill any class with a backstab, you can abuse the dash with the dagger too the hitbox is forgiving one medium one is a riot shield & baton, this one is just boring but good another medium one is dual swords that REFLECT bullets coming at you with its secondary, and has a normal swing heavy just has a comically op sledgehammer lol, the secondary one shots light and destroys walls and buildings, you got good options of combos; there is a goo gun that can make your enemy stuck in place so you can sledge and there is a grapple that pulls them to you (you can charge secondary while pulling them in, doing 200 damage) for context light - 150hp - specialisations: dash, invis cloak, grapple hook medium 250hp - specialisations: medigun, turret, dematerializer (creates temporary holes in walls) heavy 350 - winch hook, shield, demoknight like charge
FUN FACT ABOUT THE MARKSMAN when you use the core eject and launch it with the jackhammer... its a hitscan... you know what that means? COINS!!!!! YOU CAN JACKHAMMER A FUCKING CORE EJECT INTO A GOD DAMN COIN
