The whole thing with the New Generation Reploids was that they could go Maverick at will. Using the DNA of Sigma they are pretty much immune to the Sigma/Zero/whatthefuckitgetscallednow Virus along with having a very sturdy body as the opening cutscene shows. Also the music is great, I love the Japanese opening Wild Fang so much.
Exactly. Infected Reploids rebel because the virus makes them crazy with a couple of exceptions (Storm Eagle by subjugation, Vile due to faulty circuits), while NGR simply agree with Sigma without anything in between. Sigma claiming they were his children was only a half-right truth. NGR planned to carry his ideals on evolution... but that doesn't mean they needed him around for that. He was just a convenience to them.
Can’t believe is been 16 years since X8 now. After Mega Man 9 and 10 going back to the original look, I was really hoping they’d do an X9 with the art style of the first 3 X games. Maybe someday.
X8 is definitely my favorite in the series. Each level is unique with its own gimmick, and all of them are SO GOOD! The metals are a great addition as well, being super satisfying to collect. Also, the Neutral Armor is definitely one of, if not, THE BEST armor in the series. The R&D lab is awesome for upgrades that feel useful, the special weapons are solid, the Maverick boss patterns are actually competent, the duo character mechanic is awesome, and Lumine is an AWESOME final boss (not to mention his music is just beautiful). I know I gushed a lot about this game, but I can't help it. It's one of my favorite platformers that tends to be overlooked.
I've only played X8 once, but after playing X6 and seeing X7, this felt like a good refresh for the series. I appreciate the changes it made while going back to what works. It was the last X game, but not because it was a bad game.
I sorta wonder if/when they finally make X9, are they actually going to follow up on any of the dangling plot-things left in X8? You got that ominous warning from Lumine because of the loads of next-gen reploids still running around, with an end message talking about how they are *still* being produced despite what happened. And of course there's the whole "what did Lumine do to Axl" cliffhanger that was teased with his ending after the credits, and his Ultimate Armor being Lumine's colors. Or... will X9 just ignore all this because it's been 15 years and they'll just do something different? Will Axl even be playable outside of DLC? Hell, will *Zero* even be playable outside of DLC? I don't know. At the very least I just hope X9 isn't some kind of nostalgia cashgrab with 16bit/32bit graphics.
I feel like very few people know about that cliffhanger ending and didn't even bother finishing the game with Axl. I really do hope they continue where X8 left off since 2004.
I feel like they'll definitely add in Zero, it's been so long and there are so many Zero fans. But they could be like Sonic team where despite Shadow being the 2nd most popular character behind Sonic they haven't given him a proper lead role in 10+ years.
Starscream91 I sure hope so. Proto Man and Bass weren’t playable in Mega Man 11 though, so I have a reason to be skeptical. Although Proto Man and Bass were always considered extras and were never core parts of the gameplay unlike Zero and Axl, so I do think it’s fairly likely that both will come back in a potential X9.
The Legacy Collections should have been 1-5 and 6-8+Command Mission between the two. Also, rookie hunter mode is unique to each game, and it tells you what they are, I think in the manual
My favorite part of X8 was how they made Axel unique. I loved the idea of him getting different weapons entirely. The Shotgun was my personal favorite.
I am a Spanish native speaker, and it's really hard to find a guy that has such a good and dynamic way to talk and express things that I can totally enjoy a video without even understand every word that he is pronouncing. I think that, like music, gaming is a language itself. New sub!
Watched the entire marathon and never have I been interested in mega man, but you my good sir have made me so interested that I got the x collection, going to play through them and rewatch the marathon to see how I feel about it. Thank you Johnny
I like this game, but I always found the villains reasoning to be pretty stupid. Bad guy: was sigma REALLY crazy? Me:YES!!! We know for a fact he was infected!!! And SO!!! ARE!!! YOU!!!
The Maverick stigma was explored deeper in Megaman Zero and ZX and it turns out that Mavericks don't have to be infected to be considered Mavericks they just have to not obey humans or intentionally/unintentionally hurt/kill humans so if a reploid accidentally hit/killed a human they would be considered a Maverick and murdered on the spot, Sigma made a case for this fact in a couple of game although he does indeed get corrupted by a Virus so he's an extreme example of a Maverick one which actually tries his hardest to murder humans and their protectors, however most other "mavericks" are just Reploids that: disobeyed their human masters, hurt/killed a human in self defense or accidentally hurt/killed a human. In the Megaman Zero games you are actively fighting against humans because of the amount of atrocities they committed or forced their reploid subordinates to commit under the guise of maverick hunting. And in ZX we see a conclusion of Zero's sacrifice with everyone human and reploid being essentially the same with humans getting cybernetic implants at birth to match Reploids and Reploids being more human by their bodies being built in such a way that they age, grow and die like humans.(The humans getting cybernetic implants however is unclear how it works since it only started getting explored the second game but the series was cancelled before the third game)
Brian Rodriguez I am aware of this. But as you said, sigma was in fact infected. So he isn't exactly the best example lumine could use for his ritousness
I mean, all the next-gen reploids are Sigma's "children", they have a part of Sigma in them, and depending on how you interpret things, they *are* Sigma. So it's basically someone asking "am I really crazy though?" which... yeah, generally insane people don't see themselves as being insane, so there's that :p
Kisaru1000 True but the story keeps going on about how the new reploids can choose to go maveric. Meanwhile they have the code of the big daddy of all maverics in them. So how can they even choose. It is especially obvious that all that nonsense about choosing to go maveric is nonsense considering so many of them who happened to be part sigma "chose" to go maveric
Well that's mostly just the series fault with "Maverick" being... kind of a poorly defined term really? Sometimes it's explicit to be a virus that's doing this to reploids, sometimes it's an error in their programing, sometimes they just do things that other people don't like and thus get labeled a Maverick because that. It's kinda weird.
For clarification, lumine was using sigma as a pawn to create sigma clones, then wait for the maverick hunters to destroy sigma so that he could commence the Jakob project.
I find it simultaneously hilarious and absolutely infuriating that X Challenge Volume 1 and Volume 2 are EXACTLY the same thing. They could have very easily fixed this, with X being the playable character in volume 1 and Zero for volume 2, or just not lie in calling them "volumes" in the first place.
Mega Man X8 was truly a return to form, but it was too little, too late, as the overflow of Mega Man games in the early-mid 2000's lead to an eventual burnout for the franchise.
X8 is my favorite out of them all due to the vast variety. It was a huge step in the right direction and I'm glad it finally got re-released for everyone to enjoy. I hope X9 doesn't take leaps backwards though. Keep innovating and expanding the series, not take away from it
@@CountOfMonteCristo_ It is very addictive lol. My go-to team is usually Zero and Axl. And there's quite a bit of unlockables too. Best of luck on hard mode XD.
These videos are what gave me the nudge to get into X1, X4, and X8. And because of this marathon; I have games I am absolutely ecstatic to have in my library.
to fair Maverick Hunter X is remake of X1 so I can see why that not part of the collection. As for Command Mission maybe cause they wanted keep keep X-X-collection to just action-platform and adding turn-base RPG would be out of place
I'm surprised Johnny didn't mention the Sigma Saber. You get it in NG+ for Zero. It's as long as the glaive but does damage all along its length, rather than just at the end. It also one-hit kills damn near everything. Bosses only take 2-5 hits from it.
TheNCSmaster or is it? Why does everyone ignore Zero and ZX series, which are actually good games, whereas X series was basically garbage after the first game.
"[Zero 's] been playable for years, and he doesn't get a spot here." *Laughs in Megaman Zero/ZX Collection* Yeah, not the same thing I know, but maybe it was subtle foreshadowing to his collection.
I really hope they can make a Mega Man X9,because I firmly believe that the franchise is capable of making great titles. I love X1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Yes I said X3, don't judge me.
There were actually a couple of exploits in X8 where you can get a bunch of metals for the shop. One being the good old rubberband trick with an upgrade that gives you metals per step, and the other straight up maxes out the metal count at once. Basically try to refill a nearly half-filled subtank while you have less than 50 metals in the shop then pick up a metal in any level and there you go. An all expenses paid shopping spree with none of the grinding. The Navigators being playable is pretty neat as you can essentially have two of the same character in a team. Only stipulations is that Alia can't use armors, Palette can't use Copy Shot, and Layer can't equip the Sigma Blade but is perfectly fine with all the other weapons Zero can equip.
A better money exploit for the Legacy Collection version (as the second does not work) is to do that giant robot stage and get to the part where you're near a cliff and he can't actually shoot you; from here, just hold down the fire button with Axel somehow (my favorite way is mapping it to R2 and setting the controller upside down; this, of course, only works on PS4) and come back a few hours later to all the money you'll ever need. This is better than the walking around one because it requires no set-up and can be done as soon as you beat the intro stage; I think it's also faster.
4:05 since the day this review was made to now, I had realized the following: Sigma and Lumine were working in cahoots. Lumine did what Sigman told him to do and it was only last minute that he decided to betray Sigma, or rather see him fall and go along with his plan. Plus Reploids are given the ability of free will so Lumine clearly just sued it for his schemes
The series' plot could have been made much better just by one change: in X4, when X or Zero tells Colonel that he and the rest of Repliforce will be branded as mavericks, you could make the plot so much more interesting with one line from Colonel "And you assume that they haven't already?" Boom. Instantly fleshes out so much more.
Glad to see you enjoyed the game. X8 is easily one of my favorite games in the series. A shame it didn't sell very well, but with how Capcom has been releasing the X legacy collection and with Mega Man 11 coming out, I have hope that we will get an X9 soon.
If you have a decent PC i would recommend buying the legacy collection 2 version to support the game but downloading a pirated copy because the Legacy collection version on PC is a fucking mess it crashes a lot for no good reason and patches don't completely fix the problems on lower end PCs. I say PC version because it's the only one that you can cheat by using Cheat Engine because farming for metals is a pain in the asshole especially on higher difficulties.
I know this is many years later, but I watched the whole Megaman X series videos and I really want to actually try to clear X1. I'm glad you mentioned that the legacy collection has a easy mode. Might make beating X doable. Thanks Johnny.
I'll be completely honest: I jive to the opening theme every time I watch a new ScmJ video. I'd totally dance to a full-length version. Also, I love how well balanced, funny, and informative your videos are. Keep it up!
Johnny you discussed at the start asking where are the humans...and in the animated clip while your asking that there is literally six humans running from the mechanoid.

The moment at 3:36 used to blow me away as a kid. It still looks great tbh.
JOHNNY, DID YOU KNEW YOU CAN FIGHT CUTMAN ON X8???????????
Can’t believe is been 16 years since X8 now. After Mega Man 9 and 10 going back to the original look, I was really hoping they’d do an X9 with the art style of the first 3 X games. Maybe someday.
Classic Game, Man.
I hope they do go 2D. But not 16 bit, maybe high quality sprites akin to the Zero series.
I think if Mega Man 11 is anything to go by, X9 will probably be an independent story but with everyone playable
Ah yes, the one with better voice acting.
Alex James thank god for that, mega man x7's voice acting pissed me off with how bad it was
Especially compared to 9:44.
And better story, MUCH better gameplay, etc.
The one that was just better in everything.
Alex James *with 5% less shitty murican dub
The Legacy Collections should have been 1-5 and 6-8+Command Mission between the two. Also, rookie hunter mode is unique to each game, and it tells you what they are, I think in the manual
9:42
Cheesy anime cut scene
My favorite part of X8 was how they made Axel unique. I loved the idea of him getting different weapons entirely. The Shotgun was my personal favorite.
Oh boy! Time for a game that doesn't suck!
*happy mario sunshine music*

16:25 - The eclipse cannon? You're thinking of Sonic Adventure 2, good sir XD
Either way, great review!
I am a Spanish native speaker, and it's really hard to find a guy that has such a good and dynamic way to talk and express things that I can totally enjoy a video without even understand every word that he is pronouncing. I think that, like music, gaming is a language itself. New sub!
Bueno!
Watched the entire marathon and never have I been interested in mega man, but you my good sir have made me so interested that I got the x collection, going to play through them and rewatch the marathon to see how I feel about it. Thank you Johnny
Coming back here after watching his round 2 on Sonic Frontiers, guess he got the other emeralds
I kinda took it that Lumine evolved past Sigma to become the 'new' big bad.
Also, I kinda like that Axl's special weapons are guns.
Yeah. I didn't like how Johnny wrote it off as bad writing.
At the same time, doesn't the Mother Elf kill Sigma?
IS LUMINE THE MOTHER ELF?
Brian Rodriguez
I am aware of this.
Kisaru1000
True but the story keeps going on about how the new reploids can choose to go maveric.
9:42 holy fucking shit lmao! That’s easily the best clip in you Megaman X marathon
For clarification, lumine was using sigma as a pawn to create sigma clones, then wait for the maverick hunters to destroy sigma so that he could commence the Jakob project.
Imagine if the Chaos Emerald Johnny got was an actual Chaos Emerald, and suddenly Johnny got dragged into an Infinity War-like conflict.
SomeCallMeThanos: Infinity Gaming
Saw the notification, jaw dropped like Sigma's in the cutscenes here.
The 3rd set of enemies is different depending on the volume
I never though that I could click on a vid so fast

Me too
Same.
Open UA-cam app and saw this immediately clicked
9:44 Shine get! "What am I fighting foooooooooooooooooooooooooor!?!"
Ah a Johnny Vs video. Just what I needed to end my weekend.
My favorite thing to do is play this game and its entirety while listening to System of a Down mezmerize album front to back over and over
I love the “Johnny Vs” series 💯
3:21 it was pretty easy to see that Lumine was a bad _girl._
Lumine is a guy. Just because he's voiced by women, doesn't mean he is one. Also he's got no titties.
@@teoq8917 That's the joke.

9:44 - I literally started choking from laughing!
Stop what I was doing to watch when my notification went up!
Brave Lady Lyn
Lady Lyndis, how are you able to access the internet?
Mega Man X8 was truly a return to form, but it was too little, too late, as the overflow of Mega Man games in the early-mid 2000's lead to an eventual burnout for the franchise.
X8 is my favorite out of them all due to the vast variety. It was a huge step in the right direction and I'm glad it finally got re-released for everyone to enjoy. I hope X9 doesn't take leaps backwards though. Keep innovating and expanding the series, not take away from it
😠Yeah, Like The Classic 9 Did.😆
@@setsers1 9 wasnt innovative but was extremely polished tho
And we all know how 8 ended up after they tried too much
I’ve actually been playing the crap out of X8 recently due to quarantine, it’s super fun and I’m addicted!
19:17 X: I forgot to take my E pill last night.
Man this video really felt like the classic Johnny vs vids from back in the day, I loved it!
It's a shame Maverick Hunter X and Command Mission were not part of the collection.
to fair Maverick Hunter X is remake of X1 so I can see why that not part of the collection.
I can't believe this marathon is almost over already
TheNCSmaster or is it? Why does everyone ignore Zero and ZX series, which are actually good games, whereas X series was basically garbage after the first game.
Everybody gangsta till Johnny starts treating the Chaos Emeralds like they're Dragon Balls.
"[Zero 's] been playable for years, and he doesn't get a spot here."
*Laughs in Megaman Zero/ZX Collection*
Yeah, not the same thing I know, but maybe it was subtle foreshadowing to his collection.
Actually Layer can equip the Sigma Blade.
She actually could? Neat.
This is better than the walking around one because it requires no set-up and can be done as soon as you beat the intro stage; I think it's also faster.
dude my day instantly gets like a million times better everytime johnny uploads
love you man ❤
5:32 let's make a meme out of this
oh! guys! i think i've left my charger back home.
Me: oh shit I forgot to save my game file before closing it
Before we know it, X and Zero are gonna be collecting Blue Coins while fighting shadow X and Zero
A review, for my birthday? You’re too kind! (And a lucky coincidence!)
Alkali Galactic
Happy birthday dude! Hope you’ve had a nice day so far :)
Megaman X8...... I haven't played this one at all due to X6 and X7, but I'll give it another chance one day
Same. I barely got through X6 and after touching X7 I lost all hope in the series.
SwordgunnerM92 you should play it it’s much better than X7
If you have a decent PC i would recommend buying the legacy collection 2 version to support the game but downloading a pirated copy because the Legacy collection version on PC is a fucking mess it crashes a lot for no good reason and patches don't completely fix the problems on lower end PCs. I say PC version because it's the only one that you can cheat by using Cheat Engine because farming for metals is a pain in the asshole especially on higher difficulties.
This game is much better than X6 and X7. Personally I like it more than X5 and X3.
X8 is a really good game, it's behind X1 and X4 as my favorite MMX game. It does justice to the series after what X6 and X7 did.
WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOR?? good one Johnny. 9:44
It’s Cutman, guys! It’s...Its Cutman! Yeah...Cutman....please drop the hammer, John
Guess Johnny found the other 6 emeralds.
Nice.
Nicer.
Nicest.

*Ice is noice*
Mikael Fernandes Nice profile pic. I love Blaze.
I never finished command mission.... you definitely got me hyped for next time
16:24 Johnny, the Eclipse Cannon is from Sonic Adventure 2. That’s the Enigma Cannon.
I know this is many years later, but I watched the whole Megaman X series videos and I really want to actually try to clear X1. I'm glad you mentioned that the legacy collection has a easy mode. Might make beating X doable. Thanks Johnny.
Did you know you can fight cutman?
I'll be completely honest: I jive to the opening theme every time I watch a new ScmJ video. I'd totally dance to a full-length version.
Also, I love how well balanced, funny, and informative your videos are. Keep it up!
Johnny you discussed at the start asking where are the humans...and in the animated clip while your asking that there is literally six humans running from the mechanoid.
This is my favorite game in the series. I love the soundtrack, the style, the final levels, the tone, and especially the armor system.
(3:15-3:18) Meaningless religious references that were only added because they thought they would look cool? I see.....just like Evangelion. *HEYOOOOOOO*
Evangelion had a reason. You just weren't paying attention lol
i love megaman x8!!! it's my 2nd favorite x game(with 1 being 1st and x4 3rd.)i love it's characters(especially love layer who i like way more than iris for her better handled relationship with zero, pallete and alia who's designs i love and i would really love to be playable again in x9 as it's my favorite thing about x8.:3),story(the only thing i felt was it could've had a midpoint of lumine taking control since the implication is that with the new generation reploids they basically "outdated" sigma by being brought back to the original definition of "maverick" being a flaw in programming diagnostics instead of being controlled by the wily/sigma virus so they were effectively immune and given the option to use it leaving sigma with nothing to posses on the moon unless if the cliffhanger leads to his/lumines return or the events of zero.),presentation(the ocean group dub is my favorite voice work for capcom and i hope it sticks for future capcom games as i enjoy it for x8,powered up & maverick hunter x.) & replayability that to me made up for the failings of x6 and x7.
i do think the legacy collection could've had a few different extras between versions( like the cutscenes in the ps version, the scrapped navigator mode for the alia, layer and pallete and some of the figurines for x8.) and i'd love to see a fleshed out x challenge with a story connecting them(maybe similar to extreme 1 and 2.).
