All Weapons including the Knife I had are all sources of higher level enemies for example Joker, the Unknowable, High Leveled Visigels in the giant sphere where Pharsis is located in and more so you'll learn better where to find it so ask Abarax who is another Xenoblade player like me.
the knife I use only has potential up and I got it by killing many sphinxes, I guess I've just been unlucky. My other pieces of equipment are how I want them and I feel comfortable but that 25% extra potential would be nice
