I feel like TD games should always have good replayability, simply adding something like an endless/pvp mode or daily quests instantly makes the game alot more fun to play and grind and players will stay on the game longer and rejoin more frequently.
also if you want players to stay on ur game. make it grindy but not too grindy otherwise will go bye bye. but also has to be a bit grindy otherwise if there the grind is easy and takes only a little time. then ppl will be bored and leave the game
TDX is warding off new players via game padding. Many commenters here don't seem to know what that is,so I'll explain: Basically,game padding is any feature or update that is designed to make the game artificially longer (e.g making requirements harder,removing or nerfing efficient grinring strategies.) by making it harder without actually adding anything of substance. John has done just that with this most recent update and this has even impacted more advanced players like myself. It's inevitable that a developer is going to have to use game padding (especially with a new game) but John is doing this excessively. (Aside from this,him adding gambling when he said he wouldn't just hurts me so much and it's a big reason why some of my friends refuse to engage with the game.)
Grinding in this game is especially hard because every grind strat is either nerfed by John or it needs the tower that your grinding for whichs just absurd how John could basically nerf every grinding strat and the community will just be like "ahaha look at John back at it again" absolutely absurd
I think tdx requires a lot of grinding for new players and when they just want to invest this game they need to invest a few hours to get slightly decent towers like operator and missile trooper while after you play molten mode in tds you can get soldier and demoman
The problem with TDX is that there has only been updates made for high level players. Railgunner, nightmare xmas, warship, all made for high level players. If you are a new player, the only thing you can do is grind for new towers.
They really exagerrated on xmas nightmare u need artillery juggernaut laser railgunner and more but think it the xmas was made to beat it 6 times so it should be easy because if it was hard it would be hell to beat it 6 times
The problem is that John just shuts down any relatively easy way to grind. He made ancient sky islands and oil rig simple difficulty and removed cow annoyance, and the awards just aren’t great and it’s really hard to grind levels unless you grind deserted island which is level 35+
very true, john also doesn’t implement any new content that are specifically for new/intermediate players. Everything new for the past month has been locked behind intense grinding and high level requirements.
Not going to lie but I like that. The money reward should be more though. If the game is harder, equals more strategy. More strategy, equals more fun. It makes the victory part way more fulfilling rather than TDS' braindead molten grind.
Being a new player in tdx was hell. Whenever I join a public match they would immediately leave as soon as they see me place down Shotgunner or Ranger. Luckily I motivated myself and managed to grind myself up to level 72, and the reason was simply out of spite for the level 25s that kept leaving me.
I think that tdx issue is what u said but also bad release times of updates because when new updates came out fridays or saturdays they did so much better. Like christmas update was late, the new warship update was also late and posted at not best time so the hype cant spread the right way imo

Thing is, they already did(Christmas event) however the reason why it’s still not as high as tds is probably because how easy the event was(yes Ik there’s nightmare mode but I’ll get to that later) while both Christmas events were really easy, tds simply had a higher player count mainly because after beating the event you still need to play it multiple times to complete the Christmas quest whereas tdx Christmas event only required you to beat the event 6 times to get the skins and cryo ranger as I’m pretty sure only 1 time for nightmare mode to get the artillery skin so overall you just needed to win the event 7 times for tdx while there was more grinding for the quest for tds
There's one thing that's really unique that some games do really well but more tower defense games do not that well in and if tdx can do it they may stand a chance of beating tds in playercount Endless Mode

Bloons is good bc it has like 5000 different gamemodes, ranging from easy (easy mode) to extreme sweat (ranked elite bosses) and you can also play community maps and challenges, as well as do most of the modes in co op. Those add replay ability, bc there are many semi limited modes too Bloons is both easy and hard Bloons also has the freeplay endless mode which is great You also can get towers quite easily, while still unlocking a couple overtime (heros, paragons, beast handler, dartling)
The problem with a lot of TD games is that they get boring very fast and just get super grindy, and there always needs to be something new or interesting to keep the player playing. This is why Bloons Tower Defense is so successful and why there are people who are willing to do the most outrageous shit, because there is always something new/interesting. The problem in TDX is not that its a bad game, its the same reason why i stopped playing TDS, too much grinding with little interesting new stuff. However once again, this isnt me saying both games suck, this is me just saying that in the future TD games should focus more on having lots of interesting content rather than gambling, and updates that change very little.
Another problem with tdx is that the players are toxic to new players, my teammate who didn’t upgrade barracks to m203 trooper to counter super heavy zombie made us lose and blamed me instead of herself
It was fun at the beginning until I realized how hard it was to grind for towers. It has its creativity but there should have been easy-going features especially for beginners. Also you can really tell that most players of TDX are probably from TDS and TB

I had the idea of a tower defense mode that is like a Roguelike, let me explain, so you start it with ranger, and you start on easy mode, but then... every ten waves you get to select and upgrade or power up, like a global encore, an A-10 strike, call in the AC-130, or bonus cash. but then every boss you beat you get to pick a new tower, but its random and the next mode will have a special perm modifier that you choose, and based of the difficulty of the modifier, it gives more rewards. this is prob not perfect but I believe that it could be amazing.
The only problem is that it doesn't appeal to the majority of roblox players, tds is a casual experience when you just play the basic modes. There is the hc and golden towers specifically for the experienced players to keep them hooked and give them a reason to grind the game but other than that it's a casual game all throughout
One reason is because the new update does not appeal to many new players adding the hardest mode and warship which takes a while along with tds dropping the best update they have had all year

I think the problem is the updates currently. The winter update is great, but just not replay-able enough. Your supposed to be keep playing and trying throughout a while, but the event seems to be quite too easy, that even if your a complete newbie you can win by getting good teammates. Then eventually you would stop playing the event once you beat it. I think the play count problem is gonna be solved when there are more updates released and makes the game way better. Hope there is a bright future for TDX!
They added nightmare they wanted to release it at the same time as easy but they made the event in 1 week. So they could definitely make a much better event given more time

with tdx, its like a game i will just come back to for the updates because the grinding is a bit overwhelming. i myself am a busy person so i dont get time to really grind to get good
The thing with TDX, is that it’s hella grindy. To get juggernaut, you need ~13,000 gold to get it. And keep in mind, you get less than 500 gold in an intermediate match. To make things even worse, juggernaut might be outright useless in nightmare mode, considering it struggles in expert. So not only do I & many players have to grind for something hella expensive, there’s no guarantee it’ll be good for long.
The main reason for its descent is that when starting out, it is very difficult to get new towers, because the coins they give you in easy mode are very few, compared to the prices of other things, the fact of passing several times on easy gets boring, to have something decent (Main reason for the coins, lack of cheap towers or for beginners)

one thing is also I enjoy playing TDS for the nostalgia, in 2020 me and my friends used to play and I still like tds for that but also it’s easier to unlock towers whereas in TDX as a new player it takes along time to get the starter towers
I think John needs to release like 3-5 towers in one update to get some play base back and at a little bit more of a grind, and needs to add more skins beside recolors
TDX is a great game, but what I think John and the devs need to do is to make grinding much easier to get the towers you need, so you can beat the modes and keep playing the game. just about couple weeks in after release, i started to lose more interest because the grind was extremely too much causing me to immediately give up. whenever im doing easy or intermediate mode, there are times where i feel like i want to leave the game since the gameplay is very slow-paced, which is something that discourages new players like me. also, none of the recent updates they've released didn't feature any changes that helped improved the grinding for newer players. the recent updates have always been catered to higher rank players like the addition of the new warship and railgunner towers, which I'm not willing to grind for.
I got railgunner. I’ve had to dump nearly 50 hours of total time to get the majority of towers (INCLUDING times when cow annoyance barracks and sniper nest elite was a prominent strategy) but now it feels way too slow. I bought 1.5x for a reason but it isn’t satisfying to really play the game. I could play tds without 1.5x and finish it in the same time and feel satisfied in the end. The railgunner tower is cool and all but it really only having a niche purpose, like warship, doesn’t feel like a great tower to own. And the insane gacha cosmetic gimmick is really annoying considering i haven’t played any other game which essentially hard locks skins behind a randomizer. At least TDS guarantees the whole set of skins when you open enough crates.
Really what TDX is lacking rn is endgame content. Pretty sure John said they’re working on it, but rn it’s just grind a bit, have fun, beat Expert, have very fun, grind for all the towers, have a lot less fun, and then there’s nothing left to do but skins, which is just grinding. An event that requires grinding on top of that. What we’re lacking is really just harder, more interesting difficulties. Beating Expert is by far my best experience with TDX, and if they can start replicating that feeling with future gamemodes that would help the game in my opinion.

If I had remembered correctly, TDX was an passion project in the first place, even before release. And plus it had been out for few months now, so it's still somewhat new.

TDX is in a strange spot where the recent updates were more focused on the high level players, which is obviously bad for newer players or even intermediate level players. The barracks update was good for example because it gave something for all level players. The recent updates that added towers like warship or rail-gunner are great but just a bit too grindy for a majority of the player base to get. In a short time frame. The next update will probably be nightmare mode which just continues the problem. They need to find something that will be helpful to keep newer and experienced players invested in the game for them to keep playing it.
john basically adds stuff that takes a ton of grinding to get and then kills every good method of actually grinding those things he's clearly very shit at running a game, hopefully he can actually do an acceptable job soon
I don’t think that the reason why it died fast is because of how repetitive the style is but more of how you progress through the game. The hardest stage of the game is probably the beginning since grinding is extremely hard. I really try to grind this game but I get bored extremely quickly. It won’t be long before it dies even more and the remaining players will be only the ones who are already advanced a lot in the game which is the only fun part about it.
If you combine tdx and tds player count you come to the normal ccu of tds before tdx released. Which means the community split like i and some others predicted, i honestly plan to play tds event and stuff after i unlocked everything in tdx cuz tds is just pain with christmas quests but since i want to complete em i need to play it too u know
tds just added quests and therefore has an endless replay ability in theory. and because you can get paid crates in weekly quests there's a reason to do it. tdx will give tds some rivalry, tds pretty much wiped out tower battles so it'll be interesting to see who gain more players. essentially mad city vs jailbreak if anyone remembers that
I expected this to happen because how many other popular td games before like zombie madness, tower blitz, pgtd, tower galactica, toy soldierz or tds legacy has died. I have some theories about why this happens but if I would be honest tdx is extremely flawed in many things and people don't see them. Tdx had potential to be second great popular td game but it failed because how it was handled which killed game in my eyes. It's posible for it to become big again but john need to care more than money for that. After tdx i honestly think popular td games what aren't tds will either die out or hold to trends to be popular.
No, TDX is NOT dying, let me explain. On release, most games get a certain amount of players, which always starts to smooth out to an average daily player base. It started at 30k, and slowly went to 15k, to now around 7-5k, which is still GREAT! The thing other games do that TDX doesn't is that, 1. Most games revolve around a similar popular theme (Anime, trends, celebrities, etc.). 2. Of COURSE TDX wont keep a certain amount of players, as they come and go, they don't want to play Roblox 24/7. 3. This platform mostly consists of children that want to play the things they love, and most people at a younger age don't have the desire to strategize or think more than they need to. Tower Defense is only a semi-genre, and is not that well known! Even 2K players is a blessing!
the main problem IMO is the massive dificulty spike after getting laser gunner. you need to save up a ridiculous amount for juggernaut. or railgunner. and if you dont do strategies or get carried by friends. your not winning elite or expert. making you hardstuck on intermediate for a whole 13k. which is around 26 intermediate games.
wdym elite doesn't need you to get that good towers. Just get some random and place piercing/aoe towers like patrol boat or barracks. Plating with other people isn't a bad thing it's just part of the game
Very good tower defense game, but the problem players need grind like a day for the best towers(Not the warship) and winning all this goes much boring and I think TDX needs to rebalance their farm tower because of very uncomfortable cash earnings
And you need more exp to lvl up in tdx, I'm lvl300 in tds and I need 700+ exp to lvl up to the next lvl, but in tdx you need a couple thousand exp to get from lvl0 to lvl1
I personally think tds has the edge over tdx through their difficulty catering The majority of content in tds is mostly for beginners to mid-game players with enough content for the few definite minority of endgame players Meanwhile in tdx HALF of the current gamemodes require you to be high-level if you want to have a decent chance of beating them Tower variety would also help tdx alot with there only being like 4 gimmick towers which makes me sad since im not a meta slave
you can legit beat elite with sniper a very beginner friendly tower, even Expert mode can be beaten with sniper tdx is beginner friendly its just you have to be not retarded
There is literally no meta in tdx, john himself said and also the game currently shows that there is literally 5 different win cons and ways to beat expert: jugg, rail, mine, warship, john. You literally cannot complain about them being expensive because John and mine layer literally aren't. Also you can beat expert by just using snipers and mine layers if you play well enough. Plus they are still trying to add more towers, its still in beta. Tds is more more of a meta slave, everything is just Accelerator, accelerator, accelerator and you can win, it doesn't even take skill to use it and they are still not NERFING it because people will complain haha, if they buff other towers instead of nerfing accelerator, its just going to worsen power creep if it isn't already prominent enough.
@@sleet22 for now yes but in the long run there will be none, the amount of win condition that tdx is 4 which already almost the same compared to tds's 5, but in tds there isn't a real reason to not use accelerator. Accelerator's useage rates as polled and collected by tom suggested that it has the highest useage rate in all modes and none other win conditions have even come close to the level accelerator has, tdx is very balanced that each of the win condition has their own niche and is actually balanced(not sure about warship yet, haven't tested or studied enough of it to give a good opinion), like mine layer being cheap and affordable by newer players, jugg being a good all rounder, rail being the most reliable and consistent at killing the boss, warship is expensive and only useable in certain maps but can do everything good. In tds, accelerator does the most dps at their placement limit and is the most versatile, offering hidden detect very early on with decent range, very good cost efficiency and decent against hoards, it doesn't really have a true weakness either, only having to charge up, cooldown and the lock on, the charging and cooling doesn't really make an impact to it especially in max level, the devs have buffed his early levels too much so its not really a huge weakness anymore, the lock on is only bad when they locked on the boss and some enemies got pass, but other than that they should kill the other enemies so fast anyways where they basically mitigated it. engineer is not far off but just because she doesn't take much advantage from commander and dj immediately makes her a less valuable pick even if she can do early(actually if you are level 380 in solo fallen you can just place an accelerator at wave 8 with proper farming lmao)mini and gmini requires you to spam them in order to work which is really restricted on maps with layouts that don't allow for concentrated spams especially smaller ones, plus they have a harder time taking down enemies with high defence values as they lose quite a lot of damage due to tds not supporting decimal damage values(tdx does so thats nice), pursuit although having built in stun immunity does not having hidden detect and has a targeting system which makes it sometimes annoying and inconsistent to use especially when they are targeting enemies behind the boss and never moves up to retarget it. Ranger simply takes too long to fire at max level, it really struggles against hoards as the splash only hits 3 enemies max and it doesn't even do that high damage, the placement limit also quite hinders them, they do have stun immunity and the largest range already at base level but its expensive cost really hinders its use, especially when its the least cost effective in all the win conditions. Tds needs to nerf accelerator, but theu just keep refusing or never do it even when the balancers themselves know that it is overpowered. The way tdx has 2 paths justify the weakness of the other path such as jug having way more range on one path if you think that the other path has too little range, rail shooting too slow but the other path has a way better firerate for high hp hoards, john having crowd control and instant high damage on one path while the other is mote single dps and supporting based, warship has one path for more single target with hidden detect and the other for more crowd control, although mine layer's top path doesn't really have a use other than for hidden detect, its cheap coin cost is the main reason you would use it as a win condition.
You should try Zombie Invasion Tower Defense, it has the boss gamemode inspired in the BTD 6 one, it also has heroes, perks and modifiers, it's a really fun game and it's not grindy

the devs of td games got to realise that adding more towers doesnt make the game more replayable, they need to add more game modes or a whole different system to make the game unique in order to keep the flow going
Tdx needs replayability, something challenging I think if they add challenges that requires something like: pass elite mode on a hard map without artillery and laser gunner Or something like: pass expert on a map that you never passes before And actually give some good ammounts of money and also make you play the game more, since you will need to learn to play in diferent ways
i got a better idea how about something new like revisit events or even like level towers or even special modes like horde defense where instead of the tower not being place on path but something like where alot of enemies come out and have to reach or destroy the core and instead of them attacking on the path the zombie will attack your towers so maybe a new section called survival towers with (barrier,turrets,landmines)(survivalist and rioter that is from the barracks or even a story mode i mean it has to have lore
I feel like tdx needs to maybe make it easier to grind. i feel like an economy buff to elite and expert just to make it slightly easier, in my opinion the farming is just too complicated sometimes and that making all gamemodes beatable without farming just feels more natural.

I think it's hard for them because they haven't learned the maps and how each towers functions and what they're best at. They just wanna no brain everything. Also farming isn't really that good unless you're going for RG or warship because you can beat all the modes without it. I've been decently challenged trying to come up with strategies that work. Just because I didn't upgrade a tower soon enough or place more down, I've lost games. It's fun because it makes me actually think about what I'm doing. And doing funny strats too like just spamming cryos everywhere. That's where the fun is in these tower defense games.
TDX was a very awaited game, obiviously on the first time everyone wanted to play it, even people that don't like tower defense games. So of course first time it had a lot of players and its pretty good for now to stay on the count it is right now, its not dying.

I think the main reason is because it was the start of school for a big amount of the player base. Not to mention since school is starting, alot of the player base will have other things they need to focus on. I don’t think that tdx is not doing good enough, its mainly because other poeple have to focus on other things
One problem with tdx is that it’s already so modern unlike tds which went from extremely simple models to high quality stuff which means tdx has barely any more room to grow
I don't really think that could be a problem, TDS and the likes of such were released much earlier in the times of Roblox where standards for models were much lower, nowadays it's a much higher standard to attract more players.

i'm quite divisive on your video yes, the dificulty and gameplay changes are significant, especially on expert with some enemies being the absolute worst if not properly dealth, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun with it (though i honestly can't blame anyone for not playing expert or the new christmas nightmare mode, they're thoroughly unenjoyable) the main gap and difference in my opinion, is the content and fun scale, i know that tds has been here way longer and that tdx just released, but the thing is with tds, it grew rapidly because of it's constant stream of newer content, and whilst it's early days are really overrated in my opinion, it was still seen as the superior compared to tower battles, it was clearly deemed funner to an extent because of the fact it had brand new fresh things tdx on the other hand, doesn't they take away some fun and useful aspects of each tower, wether it be nerfing the placement limit, buffing a boss or enemy so that the game feels more like the military instead of an actual tower defense game in terms of dificulty, making it the only tower defense game that has the absolute WORST beginner friendlyness i've ever seen in terms of everything, with the only safety pad being small achievements that give money along with a couple of codes, it's way less enjoyable because it's all about the endless grind to get another tower to move onto the other things than having fun, and also no, i don't think the newer gameplay changes are dificult to learn, especially when one of those main features was done before, what i do agree is with what you said about it basically being just a rehearsal of previous tower defense games with like, two new features compared to the rest combined, made worse with how HARD john tried to ram in the message "only in tdx" which like i don't mind having repeated features from other games, but if you're gonna have a game advertise itself as something you've never played before while having all of these repeated things, you better give me something that isn't just dificulty to make up for originality point is, there was alot more you could've said and/or pointed out, the reason tdx is slowly falling off is because of what you've said that you haven't realized yet, The Originality, of it lots of people in tds said that it was just a generic tower defense game at it's core, with barely anything to break a mold, tds was basically the start of fresh new tower defense content, tdx will always be just another page in an endless book that's about it, cya

I think tdx should make it so if they add a tower that's for pro players they should also add in a tower for newbs to help them progress to be better at the game and the amount of the towers above op is very high for newbs they should make a tower thats in between the price of op and cryo

The problem is that the grinding in this game is ridiculously long and boring.Since most of the fun comes from elite or expert mode.The grinding is just you beating inter so easily that it becomes boring after 4 games.Also even if you win the rewards isn't that much.Inter is reasonable but easy,elite,and expert rewards are pretty low for how hard and long it takes.
Elite takes just about as long as intermediate. People try to focus on grinding efficiently instead of enjoying the game which is what makes grinding boring to many people I think.
i think tdx is pretty great, i actually like the grinding, like playing expert solo and dying every single time, but getting further the more i play, i think that's fun. The early game is kinda bad yeah but the grinding pays off imo
I want tds ot tdx to have a boss like lych or. Vortext like it comes every 20 round becids the first 30 or 40 and have multiple versions so the boss is not only on yhe last wave and new strats be made

Yes, its true that tdx is dying but john has said in their discord server that he tok a lil break but now he has insane stuff planned for the game, so he probably has a plan to revive the game again
i say the main thing about tdx is the tower paths really good as both paths have their uses in situations. but i say the main negtive about TDX is really early game grind heavy for even the most basic of towers thats the main turn off for it toward new players is the grind. i can play TDS and grind for a bit and get some decent towers pretty fast while tdx i have to grind for hours for lower towers. tbh i bought my towers since i had extra money ( most of them not all ) but i shouldnt have to do that if the grind was more bareable hell some TDS's you can get the first couble of starter towers after like 3 or 4 games

It's probably just because compared to TDS, TDX has much less content as of right now, but once they have more for the newer players to get hooked into and more things to do for higher levels, I think it'll go back to it's original player count.
I feel like Tdx is a repeat of something we’ve already had aswell, but I believe that if they add UNIQUE towers like tbz’s bof, they can get a higher player count because it would be something “only in tdx” one of my ideas I’ve been cooking would be a skill tree, where you can upgrade your player, for example, you can increase starting cash by up to 300, or maybe exp gain, or cash per dmg, with every 5 levels you get one skill point to put on any tree path you would like. That would be super unique and cool imo
I thought that you wouldn't have to pay to speed up or slow down the game or pause it, and also a big reason is that (in my opinion) some td games have a sandbox mode which I find very fun

Mostly cuz school started. Look at the player count on TDS. Last night, it was 6k and TDX was 5.9k. That doesn’t mean it’s dying, there’s people who have gone back to school or have to work and either got homework or can’t play. The weekends are probably what brings the player count up a bit. This happened when tdx player count was at 8k before Christmas update, and increased to 32k then brought to 10-15k. Then it dropped when school started, which is why it’s so low, not every person is starting to play at the same time, so it’s possible that people are playing, just not at the same time. Also, the game isn’t that Grindy bro. TDS has you to buy 6 golden crates for 6 golden towers for 300,000 coins, while in TDX, you can spend about 100k and get every good tower that is WAY better than TDS towers.
I think tdx definitely needs better, more creative maps that have more influence on the gameplay... in pvz2, for example, there are dinosaurs that can boost zombies in different ways in the jurrasic marsh area, water in which any plant can be placed on water using a lily pad, plants that can freeze in the frostbite caves area(and plants that warm those frozen plants up), portals in modern day... tdx could take some inspiration from this to make gameplay different from any other td game on Roblox

I think the game don’t have its own feature.Unlike other td games, I can feel that tdx wants to make a difference by military artillery. However it didn’t use its advantages but to add towers like rail gunner which is completely the same from other towers. Towers like rail gunner should have its own feature like a brand new attack pattern that you choose a direction so the tower only shoot that way and pierce all the enemy etc. Model is a problem,too. They should stylize their model into military.

Eh it was fun but the grind even after getting railgunner and my friend with the minigunner, it felt like... tedious sure we grinded for it already. but the constant nerfs to maps and towers makes me and my friend less interested in making up ways to win elite, then John nerfed Barracks and Sniper which is our starter sometimes besides the laser. And my problem with the event is I got interested in the possibility to solo events or at least duo them like TDS did but since the sniper has been nerfed me and my friend find it tedious to do All in all TDX still needs some work even when they had examples to work on the path is fine I guess, but simple things like seeing someone's towers in the lobby to confirm they have what they really do etc.
This is also coupled with the fact that John Roblox keeps nerfing everything. I don't understand why. He's also pulling a TDS with Exo Santa by buffing it.
It's funny seeing a lot of people complaining about "having to grind" in tdx, as if almost every other td game known to humanity hasn't had some form of grinding. (To everyone complaining in the replies, I have 14/18 of all the towers in tdx (and that's without doing an efficient gold grinding strategy once), and I've only played for 45 hours, meanwhile, in tds, I'm level 160+ and I still don't have all the golden towers, engineer, and a few event towers after days maybe even weeks of playtime. You can't be out here complaining that grinding in tdx is "difficult" when grinding coins/gems in tds requires some of the best towers in the game just to do it somewhat efficiently. Which is literally my entire point.) You can defend tds all you want, but you have got to accept the fact that it's just as repetitive as any other Roblox game.

TDX is warding off new players via game padding. Many commenters here don't seem to know what that is,so I'll explain: Basically,game padding is any feature or update that is designed to make the game artificially longer (e.g making requirements harder,removing or nerfing efficient grinring strategies.) by making it harder without actually adding anything of substance.
John has done just that with this most recent update and this has even impacted more advanced players like myself.
It's inevitable that a developer is going to have to use game padding (especially with a new game) but John is doing this excessively.
(Aside from this,him adding gambling when he said he wouldn't just hurts me so much and it's a big reason why some of my friends refuse to engage with the game.)

The problem with TDX is that there has only been updates made for high level players. Railgunner, nightmare xmas, warship, all made for high level players. If you are a new player, the only thing you can do is grind for new towers.

The problem is that John just shuts down any relatively easy way to grind. He made ancient sky islands and oil rig simple difficulty and removed cow annoyance, and the awards just aren’t great and it’s really hard to grind levels unless you grind deserted island which is level 35+

Whenever I join a public match they would immediately leave as soon as they see me place down Shotgunner or Ranger.
Luckily I motivated myself and managed to grind myself up to level 72, and the reason was simply out of spite for the level 25s that kept leaving me.

Thing is, they already did(Christmas event) however the reason why it’s still not as high as tds is probably because how easy the event was(yes Ik there’s nightmare mode but I’ll get to that later) while both Christmas events were really easy, tds simply had a higher player count mainly because after beating the event you still need to play it multiple times to complete the Christmas quest whereas tdx Christmas event only required you to beat the event 6 times to get the skins and cryo ranger as I’m pretty sure only 1 time for nightmare mode to get the artillery skin so overall you just needed to win the event 7 times for tdx while there was more grinding for the quest for tds

Bloons is good bc it has like 5000 different gamemodes, ranging from easy (easy mode) to extreme sweat (ranked elite bosses) and you can also play community maps and challenges, as well as do most of the modes in co op.
Those add replay ability, bc there are many semi limited modes too

The problem with a lot of TD games is that they get boring very fast and just get super grindy, and there always needs to be something new or interesting to keep the player playing. This is why Bloons Tower Defense is so successful and why there are people who are willing to do the most outrageous shit, because there is always something new/interesting. The problem in TDX is not that its a bad game, its the same reason why i stopped playing TDS, too much grinding with little interesting new stuff. However once again, this isnt me saying both games suck, this is me just saying that in the future TD games should focus more on having lots of interesting content rather than gambling, and updates that change very little.

I had the idea of a tower defense mode that is like a Roguelike, let me explain, so you start it with ranger, and you start on easy mode, but then... every ten waves you get to select and upgrade or power up, like a global encore, an A-10 strike, call in the AC-130, or bonus cash. but then every boss you beat you get to pick a new tower, but its random and the next mode will have a special perm modifier that you choose, and based of the difficulty of the modifier, it gives more rewards. this is prob not perfect but I believe that it could be amazing.
The only problem is that it doesn't appeal to the majority of roblox players, tds is a casual experience when you just play the basic modes. There is the hc and golden towers specifically for the experienced players to keep them hooked and give them a reason to grind the game but other than that it's a casual game all throughout

I think the problem is the updates currently. The winter update is great, but just not replay-able enough. Your supposed to be keep playing and trying throughout a while, but the event seems to be quite too easy, that even if your a complete newbie you can win by getting good teammates. Then eventually you would stop playing the event once you beat it. I think the play count problem is gonna be solved when there are more updates released and makes the game way better. Hope there is a bright future for TDX!

The thing with TDX, is that it’s hella grindy. To get juggernaut, you need ~13,000 gold to get it. And keep in mind, you get less than 500 gold in an intermediate match.
To make things even worse, juggernaut might be outright useless in nightmare mode, considering it struggles in expert. So not only do I & many players have to grind for something hella expensive, there’s no guarantee it’ll be good for long.

The main reason for its descent is that when starting out, it is very difficult to get new towers, because the coins they give you in easy mode are very few, compared to the prices of other things, the fact of passing several times on easy gets boring, to have something decent (Main reason for the coins, lack of cheap towers or for beginners)

one thing is also I enjoy playing TDS for the nostalgia, in 2020 me and my friends used to play and I still like tds for that but also it’s easier to unlock towers whereas in TDX as a new player it takes along time to get the starter towers
I think John needs to release like 3-5 towers in one update to get some play base back and at a little bit more of a grind, and needs to add more skins beside recolors
TDX is a great game, but what I think John and the devs need to do is to make grinding much easier to get the towers you need, so you can beat the modes and keep playing the game. just about couple weeks in after release, i started to lose more interest because the grind was extremely too much causing me to immediately give up. whenever im doing easy or intermediate mode, there are times where i feel like i want to leave the game since the gameplay is very slow-paced, which is something that discourages new players like me. also, none of the recent updates they've released didn't feature any changes that helped improved the grinding for newer players. the recent updates have always been catered to higher rank players like the addition of the new warship and railgunner towers, which I'm not willing to grind for.

I got railgunner. I’ve had to dump nearly 50 hours of total time to get the majority of towers (INCLUDING times when cow annoyance barracks and sniper nest elite was a prominent strategy) but now it feels way too slow. I bought 1.5x for a reason but it isn’t satisfying to really play the game. I could play tds without 1.5x and finish it in the same time and feel satisfied in the end. The railgunner tower is cool and all but it really only having a niche purpose, like warship, doesn’t feel like a great tower to own. And the insane gacha cosmetic gimmick is really annoying considering i haven’t played any other game which essentially hard locks skins behind a randomizer. At least TDS guarantees the whole set of skins when you open enough crates.

Really what TDX is lacking rn is endgame content. Pretty sure John said they’re working on it, but rn it’s just grind a bit, have fun, beat Expert, have very fun, grind for all the towers, have a lot less fun, and then there’s nothing left to do but skins, which is just grinding. An event that requires grinding on top of that. What we’re lacking is really just harder, more interesting difficulties. Beating Expert is by far my best experience with TDX, and if they can start replicating that feeling with future gamemodes that would help the game in my opinion.

TDX is in a strange spot where the recent updates were more focused on the high level players, which is obviously bad for newer players or even intermediate level players.
The barracks update was good for example because it gave something for all level players.
The recent updates that added towers like warship or rail-gunner are great but just a bit too grindy for a majority of the player base to get.

The next update will probably be nightmare mode which just continues the problem.
They need to find something that will be helpful to keep newer and experienced players invested in the game for them to keep playing it.

I don’t think that the reason why it died fast is because of how repetitive the style is but more of how you progress through the game. The hardest stage of the game is probably the beginning since grinding is extremely hard. I really try to grind this game but I get bored extremely quickly. It won’t be long before it dies even more and the remaining players will be only the ones who are already advanced a lot in the game which is the only fun part about it.
If you combine tdx and tds player count you come to the normal ccu of tds before tdx released. Which means the community split like i and some others predicted, i honestly plan to play tds event and stuff after i unlocked everything in tdx cuz tds is just pain with christmas quests but since i want to complete em i need to play it too u know

I expected this to happen because how many other popular td games before like zombie madness, tower blitz, pgtd, tower galactica, toy soldierz or tds legacy has died. I have some theories about why this happens but if I would be honest tdx is extremely flawed in many things and people don't see them. Tdx had potential to be second great popular td game but it failed because how it was handled which killed game in my eyes. It's posible for it to become big again but john need to care more than money for that. After tdx i honestly think popular td games what aren't tds will either die out or hold to trends to be popular.

No, TDX is NOT dying, let me explain. On release, most games get a certain amount of players, which always starts to smooth out to an average daily player base. It started at 30k, and slowly went to 15k, to now around 7-5k, which is still GREAT! The thing other games do that TDX doesn't is that, 1. Most games revolve around a similar popular theme (Anime, trends, celebrities, etc.). 2. Of COURSE TDX wont keep a certain amount of players, as they come and go, they don't want to play Roblox 24/7. 3. This platform mostly consists of children that want to play the things they love, and most people at a younger age don't have the desire to strategize or think more than they need to. Tower Defense is only a semi-genre, and is not that well known! Even 2K players is a blessing!
the main problem IMO is the massive dificulty spike after getting laser gunner. you need to save up a ridiculous amount for juggernaut. or railgunner. and if you dont do strategies or get carried by friends. your not winning elite or expert. making you hardstuck on intermediate for a whole 13k. which is around 26 intermediate games.
wdym elite doesn't need you to get that good towers. Just get some random and place piercing/aoe towers like patrol boat or barracks. Plating with other people isn't a bad thing it's just part of the game

Very good tower defense game, but the problem players need grind like a day for the best towers(Not the warship) and winning all this goes much boring and I think TDX needs to rebalance their farm tower because of very uncomfortable cash earnings
It took me over 5 months to get to lvl 80 in tds because of school But tdx only took 6-7 weeks cause tdx gives more xp
And you need more exp to lvl up in tdx, I'm lvl300 in tds and I need 700+ exp to lvl up to the next lvl, but in tdx you need a couple thousand exp to get from lvl0 to lvl1
I personally think tds has the edge over tdx through their difficulty catering
The majority of content in tds is mostly for beginners to mid-game players with enough content for the few definite minority of endgame players
Meanwhile in tdx HALF of the current gamemodes require you to be high-level if you want to have a decent chance of beating them
Tower variety would also help tdx alot with there only being like 4 gimmick towers which makes me sad since im not a meta slave
tdx was mainly made for long time tower defense fans who got bored of other games like tds being too easy imo
you can legit beat elite with sniper a very beginner friendly tower, even Expert mode can be beaten with sniper tdx is beginner friendly its just you have to be not retarded
There is literally no meta in tdx, john himself said and also the game currently shows that there is literally 5 different win cons and ways to beat expert: jugg, rail, mine, warship, john.
You literally cannot complain about them being expensive because John and mine layer literally aren't.
Also you can beat expert by just using snipers and mine layers if you play well enough.
Plus they are still trying to add more towers, its still in beta.
Tds is more more of a meta slave, everything is just Accelerator, accelerator, accelerator and you can win, it doesn't even take skill to use it and they are still not NERFING it because people will complain haha, if they buff other towers instead of nerfing accelerator, its just going to worsen power creep if it isn't already prominent enough.

@@sleet22 for now yes but in the long run there will be none, the amount of win condition that tdx is 4 which already almost the same compared to tds's 5, but in tds there isn't a real reason to not use accelerator.
Accelerator's useage rates as polled and collected by tom suggested that it has the highest useage rate in all modes and none other win conditions have even come close to the level accelerator has, tdx is very balanced that each of the win condition has their own niche and is actually balanced(not sure about warship yet, haven't tested or studied enough of it to give a good opinion), like mine layer being cheap and affordable by newer players, jugg being a good all rounder, rail being the most reliable and consistent at killing the boss, warship is expensive and only useable in certain maps but can do everything good.
In tds, accelerator does the most dps at their placement limit and is the most versatile, offering hidden detect very early on with decent range, very good cost efficiency and decent against hoards, it doesn't really have a true weakness either, only having to charge up, cooldown and the lock on, the charging and cooling doesn't really make an impact to it especially in max level, the devs have buffed his early levels too much so its not really a huge weakness anymore, the lock on is only bad when they locked on the boss and some enemies got pass, but other than that they should kill the other enemies so fast anyways where they basically mitigated it. engineer is not far off but just because she doesn't take much advantage from commander and dj immediately makes her a less valuable pick even if she can do early(actually if you are level 380 in solo fallen you can just place an accelerator at wave 8 with proper farming lmao)mini and gmini requires you to spam them in order to work which is really restricted on maps with layouts that don't allow for concentrated spams especially smaller ones, plus they have a harder time taking down enemies with high defence values as they lose quite a lot of damage due to tds not supporting decimal damage values(tdx does so thats nice), pursuit although having built in stun immunity does not having hidden detect and has a targeting system which makes it sometimes annoying and inconsistent to use especially when they are targeting enemies behind the boss and never moves up to retarget it. Ranger simply takes too long to fire at max level, it really struggles against hoards as the splash only hits 3 enemies max and it doesn't even do that high damage, the placement limit also quite hinders them, they do have stun immunity and the largest range already at base level but its expensive cost really hinders its use, especially when its the least cost effective in all the win conditions.
Tds needs to nerf accelerator, but theu just keep refusing or never do it even when the balancers themselves know that it is overpowered.
The way tdx has 2 paths justify the weakness of the other path such as jug having way more range on one path if you think that the other path has too little range, rail shooting too slow but the other path has a way better firerate for high hp hoards, john having crowd control and instant high damage on one path while the other is mote single dps and supporting based, warship has one path for more single target with hidden detect and the other for more crowd control, although mine layer's top path doesn't really have a use other than for hidden detect, its cheap coin cost is the main reason you would use it as a win condition.

You should try Zombie Invasion Tower Defense, it has the boss gamemode inspired in the BTD 6 one, it also has heroes, perks and modifiers, it's a really fun game and it's not grindy

i got a better idea how about something new like revisit events or even like level towers or even special modes like horde defense where instead of the tower not being place on path but something like where alot of enemies come out and have to reach or destroy the core and instead of them attacking on the path the zombie will attack your towers so maybe a new section called survival towers with (barrier,turrets,landmines)(survivalist and rioter that is from the barracks or even a story mode i mean it has to have lore
I feel like tdx needs to maybe make it easier to grind. i feel like an economy buff to elite and expert just to make it slightly easier, in my opinion the farming is just too complicated sometimes and that making all gamemodes beatable without farming just feels more natural.

I think it's hard for them because they haven't learned the maps and how each towers functions and what they're best at. They just wanna no brain everything. Also farming isn't really that good unless you're going for RG or warship because you can beat all the modes without it. I've been decently challenged trying to come up with strategies that work. Just because I didn't upgrade a tower soon enough or place more down, I've lost games. It's fun because it makes me actually think about what I'm doing. And doing funny strats too like just spamming cryos everywhere. That's where the fun is in these tower defense games.

I think the main reason is because it was the start of school for a big amount of the player base. Not to mention since school is starting, alot of the player base will have other things they need to focus on. I don’t think that tdx is not doing good enough, its mainly because other poeple have to focus on other things

One problem with tdx is that it’s already so modern unlike tds which went from extremely simple models to high quality stuff which means tdx has barely any more room to grow
I don't really think that could be a problem, TDS and the likes of such were released much earlier in the times of Roblox where standards for models were much lower, nowadays it's a much higher standard to attract more players.
On the contrary, TDX has a lot more room to grow. It is still in beta so there are going to be improvements.

yes, the dificulty and gameplay changes are significant, especially on expert with some enemies being the absolute worst if not properly dealth, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun with it (though i honestly can't blame anyone for not playing expert or the new christmas nightmare mode, they're thoroughly unenjoyable)
the main gap and difference in my opinion, is the content and fun scale, i know that tds has been here way longer and that tdx just released, but the thing is with tds, it grew rapidly because of it's constant stream of newer content, and whilst it's early days are really overrated in my opinion, it was still seen as the superior compared to tower battles, it was clearly deemed funner to an extent because of the fact it had brand new fresh things

they take away some fun and useful aspects of each tower, wether it be nerfing the placement limit, buffing a boss or enemy so that the game feels more like the military instead of an actual tower defense game in terms of dificulty, making it the only tower defense game that has the absolute WORST beginner friendlyness i've ever seen in terms of everything, with the only safety pad being small achievements that give money along with a couple of codes, it's way less enjoyable because it's all about the endless grind to get another tower to move onto the other things than having fun, and also no, i don't think the newer gameplay changes are dificult to learn, especially when one of those main features was done before, what i do agree is with what you said about it basically being just a rehearsal of previous tower defense games with like, two new features compared to the rest combined, made worse with how HARD john tried to ram in the message "only in tdx" which like

The problem is that the grinding in this game is ridiculously long and boring.Since most of the fun comes from elite or expert mode.The grinding is just you beating inter so easily that it becomes boring after 4 games.Also even if you win the rewards isn't that much.Inter is reasonable but easy,elite,and expert rewards are pretty low for how hard and long it takes.
Elite takes just about as long as intermediate. People try to focus on grinding efficiently instead of enjoying the game which is what makes grinding boring to many people I think.

i say the main thing about tdx is the tower paths really good as both paths have their uses in situations.
but i say the main negtive about TDX is really early game grind heavy for even the most basic of towers thats the main turn off for it toward new players is the grind. i can play TDS and grind for a bit and get some decent towers pretty fast while tdx i have to grind for hours for lower towers. tbh i bought my towers since i had extra money ( most of them not all ) but i shouldnt have to do that if the grind was more bareable hell some TDS's you can get the first couble of starter towers after like 3 or 4 games

It's probably just because compared to TDS, TDX has much less content as of right now, but once they have more for the newer players to get hooked into and more things to do for higher levels, I think it'll go back to it's original player count.
I feel like Tdx is a repeat of something we’ve already had aswell, but I believe that if they add UNIQUE towers like tbz’s bof, they can get a higher player count because it would be something “only in tdx” one of my ideas I’ve been cooking would be a skill tree, where you can upgrade your player, for example, you can increase starting cash by up to 300, or maybe exp gain, or cash per dmg, with every 5 levels you get one skill point to put on any tree path you would like. That would be super unique and cool imo

Mostly cuz school started. Look at the player count on TDS. Last night, it was 6k and TDX was 5.9k. That doesn’t mean it’s dying, there’s people who have gone back to school or have to work and either got homework or can’t play. The weekends are probably what brings the player count up a bit. This happened when tdx player count was at 8k before Christmas update, and increased to 32k then brought to 10-15k. Then it dropped when school started, which is why it’s so low, not every person is starting to play at the same time, so it’s possible that people are playing, just not at the same time.
Also, the game isn’t that Grindy bro. TDS has you to buy 6 golden crates for 6 golden towers for 300,000 coins, while in TDX, you can spend about 100k and get every good tower that is WAY better than TDS towers.
Finally, why did it take so long to see someone mention people going back to school?
Honestly, all that TDX needs to revive is for Devs to release towers between the price of 4k-7k
I think tdx definitely needs better, more creative maps that have more influence on the gameplay...
in pvz2, for example, there are dinosaurs that can boost zombies in different ways in the jurrasic marsh area, water in which any plant can be placed on water using a lily pad, plants that can freeze in the frostbite caves area(and plants that warm those frozen plants up), portals in modern day...
tdx could take some inspiration from this to make gameplay different from any other td game on Roblox

I think the game don’t have its own feature.Unlike other td games, I can feel that tdx wants to make a difference by military artillery. However it didn’t use its advantages but to add towers like rail gunner which is completely the same from other towers. Towers like rail gunner should have its own feature like a brand new attack pattern that you choose a direction so the tower only shoot that way and pierce all the enemy etc. Model is a problem,too. They should stylize their model into military.

Eh it was fun but the grind even after getting railgunner and my friend with the minigunner, it felt like... tedious sure we grinded for it already. but the constant nerfs to maps and towers makes me and my friend less interested in making up ways to win elite, then John nerfed Barracks and Sniper which is our starter sometimes besides the laser.
And my problem with the event is I got interested in the possibility to solo events or at least duo them like TDS did but since the sniper has been nerfed me and my friend find it tedious to do
All in all TDX still needs some work even when they had examples to work on the path is fine I guess, but simple things like seeing someone's towers in the lobby to confirm they have what they really do etc.

It's funny seeing a lot of people complaining about "having to grind" in tdx, as if almost every other td game known to humanity hasn't had some form of grinding.
(To everyone complaining in the replies, I have 14/18 of all the towers in tdx (and that's without doing an efficient gold grinding strategy once), and I've only played for 45 hours, meanwhile, in tds, I'm level 160+ and I still don't have all the golden towers, engineer, and a few event towers after days maybe even weeks of playtime. You can't be out here complaining that grinding in tdx is "difficult" when grinding coins/gems in tds requires some of the best towers in the game just to do it somewhat efficiently. Which is literally my entire point.)
You can defend tds all you want, but you have got to accept the fact that it's just as repetitive as any other Roblox game.
The problem is that grinding in this game is very repetitive, even the 50% speed boost gamepass is not worth it because it's even more repetitive to solo.
