People need to understand that just because a game has a few less players and is a little bit less fun a few weeks after you first played it, it's not dead. The amount of people I've seen/heard saying a game is dead when it still has a lot of players just because they find it boring is unbelievably high.

John has been a TDS youtuber that has been going with the community and requesting stuff, he also sometimes complains in TDS when a good tower is nerfed he should know what people want but yet still changes map ratings and other things to "balance" the game, the map classification is also extremly scuffed as he only nerfs fan favorite maps.

I think mostly everyone is getting tired of the general tower defense games. TDS and TDX have a near similar player count at the time of typing this but both are gradually less than what they were before. I took a short break from TDX and only returned this week, maybe everyone else is too?
And to support NoL’s theory even more, the same exact thing happened to tds a few years ago. If u go back to summer 2022 u can see a video uploaded from elite about “tds dying” and it caused an entire trend of that to happen. Trends will happen of a game “dying” every single time it gets boring for people

I think that TDX isn’t dying, but I think that there’s one underlying criticism that I don’t really see people mentioning, which may be one of the largest reasons for people leaving the game, and that’s that TDX isn’t unique. The whole, “Only in TDX” thing was the main advertisement campaign for the game, and it personally hyped me up (and likely many others) to expect something revolutionary in the tower defense genre. Instead, we got an ordinary tower defense games with little quirks from other games meshed into it. In fact, I find that every “unique” thing about TDX (most of which are just from other TD games mind you), are some of the most minor changes they could’ve made. The two path upgrade system, which is likely the “biggest” of the changes, doesn’t exactly change much in how you play. For the most part, I don’t find myself asking “which path is better for the current situation?”, I find myself asking “which path gives me more DPS?”, which tends to be more important especially in the later game.
Now yes, I am accusing TDX of being creatively lacking, but I don’t think it’s necessarily their fault. The tower defense genre is a very limited one, and there’s only so much you can change while it still being a tower defense game, and ensuring it won’t deter players due to it being too complicated. Unfortunately, I do think that, with how loyal of a fan base John has, he and his development team could’ve tried to take more risks, do something more innovative. For example, we have Aether Rush. The game allows you to move your towers, which completely changes how you approach the game.
You could just defend the main base by crowding your units around it, but that leaves little room to let enemies by, leaves them vulnerable to stuns, and you won’t be able to collect the “loot drops” around the map, which can give you extra money that may be valuable to your survival. Or, you can break off some units from your “impenetrable” defense at the base to collect the loot drops, but risk weakening your defense. You can make your towers dodge the attacks of bosses, and even have them move with enemies to constantly damage them. There is no real “meta spots” or “meta strategies”, you form your best defense with your own skills and technique (atleast that have been created as far as I know, since the game is dead currently)l
Placing units next to a set path is placing units next to a set path, there’s little room for creativity and there’s a reason we have so many “win game guaranteed” strategies in tower defense game.
Overall, I think that TDX should try to be more different, they have yet to do anything unique in my opinion, and unless they try to do something different, it’s just going to be another tower defense game.
TLDR for those of you who don’t want to read my rant: tdx ordinary, not very unique (everything it does has been done)
k i saw alot of people saying like tdx is not creative all the features existed in other games not putting in mind that they were never combined to one game and if you think tdx is uncreative then sadly all td games are uncreative tdx tried to be new as an example the naval tower tower death 2 path aiming system even the upcoming attack helo tower was confirmed not to move in circles all these things are really nice and adds alot to the creativity of the game and in my opinion its one in a million ive never seen a td game with such features with high quality there is alot of td games who did some of the features yes but it was never combined to one game let alone that makes balancing and coding in the game much harder with all these features but they did a good job in my opinion so if tdx isnt unique no other td game is unique then and the way tdx is played is whole different than aether rush so you cant have tdx with some features of aether rush

TDX isnt creative in the sense that it did something no one else did...literally alot of crap from TDX can be seen in World Tower Defense.From alternate units being upgraded on the field in a two path upgrade system to health quite literally being seen in WTD first cause ur towers can die to MINIONS not bosses.TDX isnt that creative my guy...and so is most of the td games.

@DerpHut Truly, WTD is a gem, although it's hard to get into with the obscure community and depressing player count. However, TDX is NOT creative at all. In my opinion, TDX is just a straight-up combination of TDS and Tower Blitz. Tower Blitz had the 2 path system way before TDX even released, (which, if you want to get into specifics, comes from BTD5). Naval towers are not new in the TD genre, like, at all. "Heli" towers, as you mentioned, are literally in most Roblox TD games, for example Ace Pilot and Pursuit in TDX. Dying to Bosses/Units isn't new either, being present in Evolution Evade, IIRC. And yes WTD has all of those features and more (other than the naval and heli ones).
tldr; TDX is NOT unique in the slightest. You could call it a more refined version of TDS, maybe. TDS 2.
Though to me it is sad because if the lack of players, but with your other points about how people arguing about it being too complicated or whatever, that is the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard and I totally agree with u
about the 2 upgrade path statement, btd 6 has 3 upgrade paths and it is harder to understand because of the t5 and paragons but nobody talks about that

You know something I find to be such a coincidence is the fact that I’ve been into like 6 of the same game this guy has been in (TDS, arcane odyssey, doors, TDX, and last but not least tower galactica) it’s just kind of crazy honestly.
It's far from dead, but it is kinda hard to actively want to come back after getting juggernaut since expert does feel a bit too easy once you get it (not counting xmas nightmare since it's actually challenging). So I'm hoping they'll soon add stuff to keep replays fresh which definitely seems likely as john seems very passionate about this game

OH THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was being driven insane by those "TDX is dying" videos. It was awful seeing people make videos so confidently about something that seemed extremely obvious to me.
Newly released Roblox games lose 30-40% of their players after a few weeks. Other games like Blackout lost like 60-80% of their players.
oh yeah blackout literally fumbled on the first month, now it’s literally impossible to play with barely any server to hop to and zergs everywhere, that’s pretty much all that’s left of the playercount there.
I have to be honest. Tdx is mid. I’m sorry, I love John but there’s been so many mistakes made like the promise of no gambling, promise of no gold skins, etc. and those have all been added. TDS is better, disappointment is what you’ll get, only in TDX.
I agree with NoL with this whole video, but what I agree the most is 6:35 when people say a 2 path upgrade is confusing, like that’s not even new, we have balloons tower defense with 2 and now 3 paths now and has been there for a very long time, we have tower blitz that also has the same setup, and now Tower defense X,but not only that but John literally showcases ever tower when he updates the game and shows them their pros and cons for both paths, something you don’t see for a defense game. And it’s even better if they have paths as it allows you to think what tower you want it to be. The ranger for an example can be a damage dealer with a M60 on top path while the bottom path can be a crowd control for weaker zombies to not swarm you with cheap zombies that the stronger zombies can punch though. Even farm lets you choose if you want to get more income or have a tower which heals your health path every supply drop. Like come on, you can’t possibly just say it’s confusing

Ayy man in my video I concluded the low player count was just because of the lack of long term content in the game (like a battle pass) which is something that TDS provides that TDX doesn’t. Roblox TD in general is dead. Objectively. Other than TDS, all of the new, actual tower defense games (i don't count toilet td) have died soon after release or their big surge in players. An example would be Tower Blitz, which did have other factors controlling its downfall such as 0ster handing it off to a worse dev team, but in general, tower defense in Roblox has been declining as of late.
Project tower defense for revenaunt Krampus or windigo for the Christmas even also killed towers
