I’m scratch, and I can tell you that the difference in a 3-5 hc, and scratch is basically controlling nerves, and making more one-putts. I highly recommend all of you single digit hc guys to start playing from the front tee boxes more often. You’ll get a lot of mid-range looks at birdie, and you’ll also get more comfortable being under par coming down the stretch. This is VERY important. How many times have you been under par, and blew it on the last few holes? Playing the front tees makes this feel more “comfortable”, and gets you used to going low. It also gives you a lot of practice on those half wedge shots(scoring shots). Also I keep 2 stats…. I need to hit 12/18 GIR, and have less than 30 putts, to shoot par, or under. No doubles, no 3-putts, no chunks or skulls, and no balls out of play. If you struggle with an occasional chunk, or skull then you’re not quite there yet. Practice your “strike”, until it becomes a non-factor.
Wow what a thoughtful recommendation. I am a 4.2 and have battled to get below a 4 hc. I hit 65% GIR and 62% fairways and avg 34.2 putts a round, so it’s all my putting and scrambling. But, I always play from the blue tees when possible thinking I’m cheating when I play from the white tees. Your advice to play from the whites tees challenges me and is a bit unsettling. I usually hit GIR but have 30-50’ putts which is why I have over 34 putts a round. If I was closer on my approach shots maybe I’d be closer to the pin for makeable putts, but that just seems like cheating. I am 61 yrs old hit my drives 250 and 3-metal 235-240 so I think I should hit from the blues. Okay bottom line I’m a head case and need counseling and golf therapy…
@@LakeStevensPete I normally play at 6,500 yards in the summer months. However, I move up to the 6,100 during the winter. It sounds like you’re playing too far back. You should have a wedge, or 9 iron on short par 4’s, and be able to barely reach the shorter par 5’s in two, if you’re at the correct tee boxes. The short par 3’s should have you hitting a short iron(7i or less). The longer par 4’s should never leave you over 200 in. The longer par 5’s should have you about 100 out, after second shot. And on the longer par 3’s, you should have 200, or less from the tee. I never play the tips at my home course. They’re just too long for me(7,100). Play the holes how they’re meant to be played. Don’t punish yourself from making the course longer than it’s designed for you. The red tees at my course are only 5,055. Some of the par 4’s are drivable, but very narrow around the greens. I do play them sometimes, just for the reasons that I mentioned above.
Really insightful comment. I’m currently a 3.1 - I’ve never thought through getting practice at more reasonable birdie opportunities by playing up front. Also, interesting idea to get used to the mentality of low numbers by taking advantage of front tee position. I’ll definitely utilize that this year. Most consistent issue I have when reviewing the results is I’m putting 31-33 times per round.
@@StevieDahlen As far as your putts per round being above 30…. I’m guessing it’s proximity to the hole after a chip, to save pars. Ya gotta get those chip shots inside of a 4’ circle. If it isn’t that, then try taking one more stat. Estimate how many feet of putts you “make” per round. A pretty solid putting round is 75’ of putts made. Just walk off the distance from every putt that you hole(8 footer for birdie, or a 4 footer for par, whatever it is), and just write down 2’ for gimmes. You need to pinpoint why you’re 3-4 putts short of your

It's always funny hearing 10 and up handicappers talking about distance and such with there clubs. Golf is about consistently being able to hit a certain distance over and over again. Not the one time you swung out of your shoes and hit your 9 iron 170 yards straight lol. Once I slowed my swing down to hit a constant shot my handicap has dropped into a low single digit. That being said I will still go out and have a bad score here and there with massive mental breakdowns.
You are the goat. You are hard on yourself, but I strike the ball way better than you and struggle to break 90. Your game is my golf goals man. Keep it up!
I've found always take the time to get the right club, but most of the time if its cart path only its better just to push a buggy the round goes much faster.
Crazy good reflexes to catch the club out of mid air on 8 Adam. Great video like always. Watching Nash hitting bombs and throwing in lasers is a lot of fun.
After watching your golf swing, I feel a whole lot better about mine. I normally shoot around 10-12 over on 18 holes, normally I get most of my Bogeys from random wayward tee shots that do not Draw like my normal drives, or missed putts.
Great video! Glad I found the channel. Shame to see Nash so nervous playing in front of the camera. It really affected his play didn't it🤣Fantastic golf on a great looking course👏I really enjoyed the commentary throughout. That's a great way to do it. Have you ever thought about filming a coaching series Adam where you're getting lessons? It seems a shame to waste a good short game when there's definitely some low hanging fruit to improve ball flight/ball striking and move your game up a level. Subscribe and bell icon hit👍
Great course vlog once again! Love the commentary regarding leaving the ego at home! Golf has unfortunately become all about power and hitting “bombs” with every club.
I broke 80 for the first time Sunday for a 76 +4 with 4 3 Putts and today came down from cloud 9 shooting a 45 on 9 for league night after 1+ thru 4 could not putt to save my life tonight. I’m a 9 trying to consistently break 80. Hope I can shoot level par someday!
Ya, i agree, i shoulda been more careful. I think was just a but frustrated i missed the eagle and had an average 9 instead of what felt like coulda been a real good one!
@@nashkassam5632 It was an extreme example of „Don‘t overthink too much“ 😂 But it worked out well 🤷🏼♂️ Great golf btw - Enjoyed watching the video and your talk through process, thanks 👍🏻
It’s apparent in Nash’s swing that he is lead hand dominant (even if it’s not his dominant hand). When I learned that, it transformed my game drastically. Great swing 👌🏽
@@NotAScratchGolfer gladly my friend! Generally speaking, when a golfer tries to use their Trail hand to create power/hit the ball, it results in weak, slappy shots that usually end up right. But, when you learn to use your lead hand as much as, if not more than your trail hand (starting with feeling like the lead hand is doing 90% of the work would be my advice), you start getting more lag, more compression, more distance - and a nice draw 👌🏽 I’m no pro, but I went from a 12hdcp to a 4hdcp in just a few months with this change, WITH a newborn (now 5 months old). I honestly feel like I could be much lower if I had the time to practice like I used to. So many years wasted not knowing that the lead hand is the key hand for the avg golfer - the pros already know this. It makes sense though - there’s a reason there’s a glove on your lead hand instead of your trail hand lol 🤷🏽♂️🤯 Here’s a link to a great short by Clay Ballard that conveys what I’m saying for the most part! ua-cam.com/users/shortsjO3WW7Qzr0c?feature=share
Nash is almost certainly the best/most consistent ball striker I've ever seen, and that includes a handful of mini tour guys I've played with. He doesn't quite hammer it as far as some guys do these days + he says he is prone to the yips with the putter from time to time. Still, he's had some very impressive tournament performances and I'm sure he will continue to!
I like how he said check your ego about power and distances my driver swing is the only swing that gets full power but focusing more on control, 3 and 5 wood down only get 80% swings, that way I can consistently make it through 18 holes, you go taking 100% power swing on everything, we’ll eventually you’ll get tired and now your not at 100% power anymore, you may hit your pw 150 a couple times then towards the end of the round u run into the same shot and only hit your pw 135 and come up short, just my theory that’s why I only play 75-80% power helps me with consistency as well which I believe is the most important aspect to golf
Hey adam i would love to join you and Adam for the trip but I'm only 16 and I live in Seattle Washington. I'm assuming I won't be able to go on the golf trip because of my age but I just wanted to make sure.
Hey Ryan! We’re still very much in the exploratory stage of seeing whether there’s interest in doing a big trip. Even if you can’t make it, I’d love to hook up for a round the next time I’m in Seattle (which is only a 2.5hr drive from me in Vancouver)!
A big difference is that im a flag hunter and nearly always try the Seve shot, why cos im an amateur playing 2-3 times a week and enjoy a cpl of birdies and pulling off some great Seve shots, they are the ones i remember! and i quickly forget the 1 dbl a round or the rushed 4ftr average pros break par playing percentage golf, how boring is that! tho i want 1 sub par round this year so capt sensible will have to make an appearance!Yes i do chunk or fat a chip or pitch in the winter but i hole a lot as well!
if you want to get to scratch you should focus on getting your reps in above anything else. it's not really productive to think strategically until your game from outside 30 yds is well below scratch IMO
Basically scratch golfers try to make the next shot easy, whilst we are gluttons for punishment! They get a kick from the score for the round whilst we remember the birdies and great recovery shot and forget the odd dble.
There was a great ongoing discussion about Nash's swing that I unfortunately had to delete because the OP evoked f-bombs and political attacks. Suffice to say, I generally LOVE the discussion in the comments. There are two odd types of comments, though, that I wish I saw less of: armchair coaching from non-certified pros and "handicap deniers." One commenter said, "calling BS on this guy being a +3 with that swing." This comment under literal empirical video evidence of that swing producing 9/9 GIRs, one bogey, multiple missed putts inside 6 feet, and a 3-under thru 9 score. What bothers me about these comments is that they promote the false notion that we play "golf swing" instead of "golf." So swing your swing, golfers. See a professional for coaching, and don't fret if your swing doesn't look like Adam Scott's.
This actually magnifies the importance of thinking well. If i dont swing, putt, or chip like a +3 (which i agree, i dont) it shows how important thinking well and course management are. Also, there’s something to be said about consistently getting to the same impact position. It doesn’t really matter how you get there (insert jim furyk, matt wolfe, or anyone unconventional), but it matters that you can repeat your swing and that path, club face, angle of attack etc match up to produce a predictable outcome.
Do you want to get better than a scratch or happy with where you are at? For me, i love the challenge of improving even though i may have reached my individual potential. I’ve found that working on all aspects of my game, including my course management and mental toughness has helped me shoot lower scores when i am playing well and less bad scores when i am playing poorly. In my opinion there is no better feeling then chasing a tournament win or personal low score, you should give strategic course management a try!
The humble brag- “ what do you guys think about as plus handicap golfers?” Idk bro what did you think about when you use to be a plus handicap golfer? Prob the same things we do .
Yeah Nash would typically play one tee back. Kept it simple and played the same tees so as to maintain pace (we were already a foursome playing two separate boxes with a tripod and a drone :p).
NASH plays nice but I wonder.... are you always playing short putts like that? Friendly game and all okay.... but even when I play a friendly game, I never stand on the line of play... adding 4 general penalties so +8 to Nash's score for a +6.... this habit is going to cost you at some point...
Was I standing on my own line or someone else’s? Can you tell me the time stamp so I can see what you are referring to? 8 penalty strokes seems a bit steep?! 😜
Understand what you are referring to now. Definitely do not do this normally or in competition, just in friendly matches when the putt has been given to me.
@@NotAScratchGolfer that’s exactly my point… building the habit and at some point in a competition you will slip, a costly slip… which probably not only will get you the penalty but will also lay on you mentally for a hole or two…
I had to take a jab at the commenters who only turn up to say how much farther they hit the golf ball. Nash said it best, "golf isn't a long drive competition." ;)

You are the goat. You are hard on yourself, but I strike the ball way better than you and struggle to break 90. Your game is my golf goals man. Keep it up!
Thanks, man! It's all in the short game :p
@@NotAScratchGolfer I cracked up when Nash called your up and down game “annoying” 😂
@@bigtimepartytim I've been told that so, so, so many times lolll
I love watching Nash’s tempo…very smooth
Inspiring, for sure!
Great format nice rounds
Thanks!
Quality vlog! Good commentary from Nash
Sounds like we need more Nash on the channel :p
"This hole is quite forgiving" proceeds to be one of their worst holes of the day.. Love the content.
I've found always take the time to get the right club, but most of the time if its cart path only its better just to push a buggy the round goes much faster.
Unfortunately i have a chronic foot injury that inhibits me from walking a full round! 🤕
Crazy good reflexes to catch the club out of mid air on 8 Adam. Great video like always. Watching Nash hitting bombs and throwing in lasers is a lot of fun.
Lol! Yeah, Nash is a stick, for sure. It's always fun getting out with him.
After watching your golf swing, I feel a whole lot better about mine. I normally shoot around 10-12 over on 18 holes, normally I get most of my Bogeys from random wayward tee shots that do not Draw like my normal drives, or missed putts.
Nash looks good in this one!
Yeah, guy makes it look so easy.
I’ve been telling adam that he should document the process trying to get to scratch!
That sounds like a great plan!
Sign Nash up for some collaborations with some of the other scratch YT golfers, seriously good score and play for -3 on 9
Nash is a new father and his schedule is hectic and I'm definitely going to try to get him (+some other low cappers) out this season!
What’s the exact name of the shoes you wear? Are those air max’s? Gotta get me a pair.
These are Nike Air Zoom Infinity Tour NXT Spiked shoes in white/blue/pink. Where’s my kickback, Nike? 😛
No way he is a scratch golfer with THAT swing! Even a blind squirrel finds and acorn!!!!! I shot 86 yesterday and I’m better than this guy
Yeah, he's a 10hc at best.
Most underrated comment on the most underrated UA-cam golf channel
Nash vs Pro Mo match play, with you two legends on commentary could break the internet.. 👍🏻
@@jeremyhill3837 Playa, are we making this happen?
I dont understand why his swing is issue here..
It's 6600 from blues, shouldn't you be playing from sub 6300? That would certainly provide a competitive balance.
This course tends to play shorter than the number on the card. But yes, generally I choose tees a bit shorter than these.
I play in Nova Scotia. One day I'll get out west and get to play those nice mountainy courses.
And likewise I need to get out there to play!!
Great course vlog once again! Love the commentary regarding leaving the ego at home! Golf has unfortunately become all about power and hitting “bombs” with every club.
Yeah, there's a time and a place to watch jocks hit bombs. The rest of the time i prefer real golf, myself.
I can relate in that I scratch my head while I play the game
Adam: “relatively straightforward 2 putt” when the clean up is a 5 footer 😮 7:50
Great idea to grow the game.
Thanks!
Beautiful course!
13:50 I would've never tapped that ball in if I would line myself up properly. This man got some ballz lol!
Ya, i agree, i shoulda been more careful. I think was just a but frustrated i missed the eagle and had an average 9 instead of what felt like coulda been a real good one!
@@nashkassam5632 It was an extreme example of „Don‘t overthink too much“ 😂 But it worked out well 🤷🏼♂️
Great golf btw - Enjoyed watching the video and your talk through process, thanks 👍🏻
It’s apparent in Nash’s swing that he is lead hand dominant (even if it’s not his dominant hand). When I learned that, it transformed my game drastically. Great swing 👌🏽
Can you expand on this?
@@NotAScratchGolfer gladly my friend!
Generally speaking, when a golfer tries to use their Trail hand to create power/hit the ball, it results in weak, slappy shots that usually end up right.
But, when you learn to use your lead hand as much as, if not more than your trail hand (starting with feeling like the lead hand is doing 90% of the work would be my advice), you start getting more lag, more compression, more distance - and a nice draw 👌🏽
I’m no pro, but I went from a 12hdcp to a 4hdcp in just a few months with this change, WITH a newborn (now 5 months old). I honestly feel like I could be much lower if I had the time to practice like I used to. So many years wasted not knowing that the lead hand is the key hand for the avg golfer - the pros already know this.
It makes sense though - there’s a reason there’s a glove on your lead hand instead of your trail hand lol 🤷🏽♂️🤯
Here’s a link to a great short by Clay Ballard that conveys what I’m saying for the most part!

It’s back up now! Servers had a small outage!
wow Nash is a baller. Impressive consistency. Would be curious to see what he'd shoot on a pro layout.
I think he's actually better than Garrett/Grant/Micah (but worse than George Bryan)
Howdy! Thanks dude! Honestly if it was for fun or a practice round i’d be fun, i start playing poorly with pressure…
@@nashkassam5632 I understand I have that effect on people
I like how he said check your ego about power and distances my driver swing is the only swing that gets full power but focusing more on control, 3 and 5 wood down only get 80% swings, that way I can consistently make it through 18 holes, you go taking 100% power swing on everything, we’ll eventually you’ll get tired and now your not at 100% power anymore, you may hit your pw 150 a couple times then towards the end of the round u run into the same shot and only hit your pw 135 and come up short, just my theory that’s why I only play 75-80% power helps me with consistency as well which I believe is the most important aspect to golf
Nash has a good looking swing 😮
Hey adam i would love to join you and Adam for the trip but I'm only 16 and I live in Seattle Washington. I'm assuming I won't be able to go on the golf trip because of my age but I just wanted to make sure.
Hey Ryan! We’re still very much in the exploratory stage of seeing whether there’s interest in doing a big trip. Even if you can’t make it, I’d love to hook up for a round the next time I’m in Seattle (which is only a 2.5hr drive from me in Vancouver)!

Can you vlog Nash in a mini tour event? I think he might be competitive, he can cash with that kind of game
This is a good idea! I've gotten the sign for filming on a local tour in Vancouver. Maybe I'll get Nash out to one and record him this season!

They get a kick from the score for the round whilst we remember the birdies and great recovery shot and forget the odd dble.
i got a hole in one on 8 there this summer
Congrats!! First one?
What bothers me about these comments is that they promote the false notion that we play "golf swing" instead of "golf."
So swing your swing, golfers.
Adam, very shallow backswing seems to cause you so serious problems at impact.
quality golf
Thanks!
12.56 😂😂😂
Tip . Do the round talking in that voice only. See what Nash thinks about then.
I really can’t understand how well you’re playing with that swing 😅. I guess it’s working tho cuz I have a better one and shoot higher😬
adam dawg u gotta fix that swing, the swing is way to wonky for consistent hits
I cant believe your off 5🤪
Yeah he hit a 7 iron 142! Clearly without a doubt a 13 to 15 handicap!! Not a 3 😢
I just watched the rest of the video. 190 yards and a 4 hybrid, 20 hcp all day. PS I'm a troll😮
I want to play w Nash haha
I’m down. Looks like you are from BC what part?
I've been scratch for three years and I am usually thinking about what I'm going to eat for dinner
@@nashkassam5632 I very much want to get better but living in Manhattan makes playing golf pretty challenging

The humble brag- “ what do you guys think about as plus handicap golfers?”
Idk bro what did you think about when you use to be a plus handicap golfer? Prob the same things we do .
“Ball descent”
Angle
First, wow :)
Second
I don't believe these two should play the same tee boxes
Yeah Nash would typically play one tee back. Kept it simple and played the same tees so as to maintain pace (we were already a foursome playing two separate boxes with a tripod and a drone :p).
+3.3 is definitely not scratch 😂
True. I play with a lot of "scratch" golfers who are really more like 1-3hcs. A +3.3 is way, way, way, way, way better than a 3.
😂
NASH plays nice but I wonder.... are you always playing short putts like that? Friendly game and all okay.... but even when I play a friendly game, I never stand on the line of play... adding 4 general penalties so +8 to Nash's score for a +6.... this habit is going to cost you at some point...
Was I standing on my own line or someone else’s? Can you tell me the time stamp so I can see what you are referring to? 8 penalty strokes seems a bit steep?! 😜
In casual play we do this unapologetically.
Understand what you are referring to now. Definitely do not do this normally or in competition, just in friendly matches when the putt has been given to me.
@@nashkassam5632 it felt so uncomfortable even seeing someone doing it… 😜
@@NotAScratchGolfer that’s exactly my point… building the habit and at some point in a competition you will slip, a costly slip… which probably not only will get you the penalty but will also lay on you mentally for a hole or two…
Y is he hitting a 7 iron from 145😂😂😂😂😂😂
I had to take a jab at the commenters who only turn up to say how much farther they hit the golf ball. Nash said it best, "golf isn't a long drive competition." ;)
The way you swing a driver is painful to watch.
