Finchy, you’re playing some incredible golf recently! Effortless. Good luck in the comps this year
Cheers pal, made it look difficult today 😂
The production value on this video is magnificent, brilliant info as always Pete
Pete, this great advice for all players and employed similar thoughts on Saturday. Trying to hard to get my official handicap, the previous week, I hit 102 but adopting a more thoughtful approach and with the help of you swing quest chipping video, this week, I hit 88 with two lost balls. I felt relaxed enough to actually enjoy the round.
Thanks mate ❤
Wow 102 to 88 is a massive swing.
Great information on the transition to being a scratch golfer. I played for a couple of years with two guys who primarily focused on their swing and strike, while ignoring short game, mental clarity, and course management. Since moving away from practice of strike hitting hundreds of balls a week plus playing twice, and moving to 3-6 ft from the flag. My score began dropping. Now focused on mental and course management, and it’s dropping again. Next goal 70’s. Thanks again!
I'm glad to see you partnering with Shot Scope. I got a V3 last summer and the data has been very helpful in my efforts to improve. I found out I leave 75% of my putts short so that has been my focus this season.
I love this guy :) he's funny and always keeps it real
You'r strike game is pure. You make it look effortless. I'll definitely take any advice from these finch
One of the key things I have learnt but re-inforced by the North of England You Tube Golf Community: Put the ego away and concentrate with your own game and how you hit the ball and the clubs you use for certain shots. There will always be someone who hits it further or straighter or who shapes their shots but it does not make them a better player. I have seen how some people belt a ball a mile with iron x but the way they shut the face or the way they deloft it or even the loft on their make of club means it is academic. Having played with Ping i5's for 15 years I got my handicap down and enjoyed knowing how they worked in my grip and dynamic and how they were a safe club with yardages I knew without the laminated crib sheet.
That said I finally changed them in the Autumn with stronger fitted clubs as my dynamic had changed with age and experience with the benefit that the gapping means I need one less iron at the top end freeing up space for a much needed 4th wedge. The irons were also chosen as they were easier to work on half, 3/4 shots thus making gapping even easier as well as manipulating flights for different wind conditions.
Another top tip is to find a quiet time (if they exist) on the course or use time wehn the course is slow and hit two balls off the tee selecting different clubs or shots so you can experiment with different options like Peter described and seeing if playing percentages is the best for you or actually on some holes it is easier just to 'Whackit (where appropriate)".
Talking through shots and strategy is really useful. More please. Thanks 👍🏼
Interesting to get the stats of a non-pro. One thing I would say about the putting though:
you said that there wasn't much difference between handicaps from 30FT in make percentages. That may be so, but 3 putt avoidance is a huge stat here especially for higher handicapers.
Keep up the great content Pete.
I also think that knowing the course, the greens, the approach also helps!
Great putt at the end Pete! I'd have probably hit it that hard too. Those greens look like my face after I hadn't shaven for a week. Very fuzzy! One thing that has helped me a lot the last year is my gap wedge. I know I can hit it almost bang on 120 yards every time so on par 4's, I play the hold backwards kind of and just tee off with whatever club leaves me 120 from the green. It's helped a lot!
one of the best most relatable videos i've ever watched
Good thing you hit the pin on that last putt. That was going another 10 feet the other way. Great round!
Those are some seriously white shoes 🤟🏼⛳️ - I recently shot 72 using my 2 iron off the tee and managing the course much better than just smashing driver…it works!
Brilliant video this mr finch. With the standard of your golf now, your quest for the open is imminent I feel 💪👍
Love the channel Peter! Got my first hole in one yesterday, 185 yard par 3 in wind 💪
SAM!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
And then you woke up
Nintendo doesn't count boss
Well done and congratulations
Congratulations my friend, I’m still hoping one day I’ll get one, I’ve came within 6 inches a few times but the bastard just won’t drop in one 😂
One thing that really helped me out is stepping off my put distance and converting the distance into feet, knowing the actual distance makes all the difference. I spend time putting from set distances before the round and this gives me a good feel for how to pace my puts during the round. I’m alway amazed at how many people just guess at the distance of there puts and wonder why there put end up short or long.
Quality material as always Pete. Quite the train wreck on the last green, probably chipped the paint on the flag stick!
This is how a break par, or 80, or 90 video is supposed to go. Thank you Pete, every other video I've seen from other people about this just say, "don't do this and don't do that" obviously if I could control those things I wouldn't do them. This video gave specific ideas on how and why to do certain things. Top notch!
Just got my HCP down two strokes to 18! Thanks to Peter Finch and this video! legend advice!
Par is a good score. Breaking 80 is also a good score. As long as you can rely on your distances to get to at least pin high, you’re going to score well. Great video Finchy!
Some great tips in this but also showed some great benefits to using a scope and watch. All round very enjoyable video, especially when you make it look that easy! 👍
Recently picked up the shot scope v3 and the data it provides is awesome! Absolutely feel it’s helping me to improve my game by showing me the areas I need to work on. Leaving a round, you have an idea of what you think you need to work on, but this provides data to support the areas you need to focus on. Great video as always and look forward to seeing your channel grow even more!
For me, what seems to help me the most with my game is just my general headspace and mood. Golf seems to be a very mental game, and when I'm feeling good I play better
"Just wack it" helped my golf a lot! Thinking of where I want my ball to go instead of my swing technique.
My game has also improved by spending time with my son (who loves the range and short game area) and taking more time and hitting less unproductive ego drives and more time striking the ball for a purpose. I have always enjoyed the short game area too, it makes me laugh how many people belt away on the range with the big dogs and hit the ball a mile or brag about how far they hit the ball and then have the touch of a welder round the greens and wonder why my handicap is lower even being a slight short arse!
It is far more fun (or is it just me) practicing chip and runs, flops, pitching, learning yardages with all your wedges and trying different things incluing the bunkers so when you need it you already have an arsenal of shots you know how to play and a fair indication of how far it will travel and react on arrival.
Oh and putting, we all need to do more from inside 10 feet !
Agreed. Gollf is full of men with fragile egos who just want to outhit one another. It's so tiresome and cringe to me. Give me a deft 80 yard wedge shot to 3 foot over a 300 yard drive.
Surely you could've printed that yardage sheet smaller 🤣, great video Pete loving these vids
On my distance watch I find it beneficial to always go for the back of the green number. I never leave it short and I rarely ever over shoot the green because my contact is never perfect. 21 handicapper. 👍
I tend to thin alot of approaches so long is my miss, but my course is really punishing on long shots due to water and hills..
The one tip that I would recommend to everyone is to not let your emotions consume you…just go out on the course and remember to have fun!
That's my least favorite part about golf, the sometimes shit attitude of other people. Stop slamming your clubs on the ground. If you want to get better, go practice. Stop thinking that golfing once a week is enough to make you the next Tiger.
@@hurfdurfy8167 you wana lighten up. I find it hilarious. Same as when I see a 34 handicapper with a 3 grand set of clubs.
I totally agree with you but man it's tough sometimes when your game loses you and you're not really sure what you are doing differently.
@@joshuaking1194 I feel attacked
Quit keeping score Unless you're playing for money or in a tournament, otherwise who cares what you shoot. Too many act like they are putting for Cadillacs and forget they are there to have fun.
Great guy! great Golfer, Great Teacher! Great video edition, taking care of importan effects with the right signals.. NExt time please, say which iron you use before the shot. I have a month playing golf!! jejeje
Can't wait to get back out on the courses soon, watching your videos over the winter keep the golf hype going for me 👍
12:36 Guy in the Red sweater is all of us!
*WOULD LOVE TO GET SINGLE FIGURES HANDICAP!* 💪
I'm with you - that is one of my goals this season.
Same there
I would be happy below 30 ...
@@mp-dd7pn Make sure you lock in a solid grip and stance / setup and you will be there in not time.
Bassline and scratch golf. Love that >>>>
How to shoot level golf
1.) Good course management
2.) Hit good shots
3.) Lag a plethora of 10' birdie putts for easy pars
4.) Rinse and repeat
🤣🤣
I actually laughed out loud when that last putt went in. XD
Love the watch for golf but a pity there is no HR monitor or smart notifications for off the course use.
My tip for golfers is to make par or better only on every hole. And hit every fairway and every green in regulation or better. This is a sure fire way to shoot scratch golf. These are the rules I play by. Very simple strategy.
This is how you need to play your tournaments mate! Talk through everything as if you were on video! Great shooting
Hi Pete love the video as always just hope you can take care of yourself. You’ve put on an alarming amount of weight the past year.
Great last put,
I'm glad I watched until the end, because it was the best part. I was thinking that ball is gone...
Well played Pete 👏🏻 thanks for the video. I smashed the like button almost as hard as you smashed that last birdie putt 🤣
"Just Whack It!!"...(when appropriate)🤣
Excellent golf Pete 💪 think the arm lock putter needs to go though 😂
Wow, I'm looking forward to this video, Peter you ever played woodhall spa?
Not yet, on the list though
@@peterfinchgolf okay love to hear that.
It's all about intent. Aim small miss small add in a particular shot shape as well. More often than not you will be in the ballpark
Thanks for the reminders. I know all those but do none of them. That's why I'm a +20.
Well played what surprised me was how short the holes were. Were you playing off yellows or white tees?
i do know that as a 17 handicapper, i hit the ball with a driver around 250 yards, however the reason i have a 17 handicap is because of short game, im more likely to blade the ball with a wedge than i am to slice a drive, of course i do have my bad days with the driver, but i am way more confident with the driver than any wedge, i can get to within 100 yards of the pin on a par 4 in at least 1 or 2 shots, but then from there its a melt down. im hoping to practice my short game much more this year and put a focus on those 100 yard shots.
Congrats on the new parnter, Pete! Also, looks like you're playing quite well atm. Hoping this is the year for QFTO :)
Ohhh winter has not been kind to this course! Well played
Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the shot scope v3. I love my watch, it’s definitely helped with course strategy.
That eagle chance putt... I think I never clenched as hard in front of the screen, wishing a putt to go in 🙂
Super !!!! 👍 content
Will you be sharing your strokes gained ??
Practice… ayyyy ✨⭐️
I liked purely for the lad behind you on the slope 🤣
Great video Finchy, the point about the 6ft and under putts is really useful. I missed 5 or 6 of them last week and that was the difference between a high 80's and a low 90's round (both good for me). I'll keep that in mind.
Great video. I have shot scope and I definitely do not use it to its fullest potential is what I’ve learned today! Thanks again!
Any idea what “P-Averages” means on the driving distance table.
Good video and well played, Pete. 👍
That was a hilarious ending 😂😂🤣
Hey Peter love watching your videos, always great to get somebody talking thru what their thinking while on the golf course, sometimes the simpler we keep things the better!
LOL "and that's a fact". Love it
Ol' sheilsie could use some lessons.....LMAO JK love you guys would love to see some more colabs and a golf bidder revisit...
I've got the shotscope rangefinder and the v2 watch, defo considering upgrading to the v3 watch, and what a put to Finnish on🤣🤣, would of been back on the tee if it didn't go in🤣🤣
Superb video Peter, hope you replaced the flag on the last that surely must be broken lol😜
Looking forward to Shotscope content - Garmin Giveaways????!!!!!
Well done Pete 👏
Best tip is don’t try new things on the course. Practice is where you work out new swing thoughts not the course. Love your videos you’ve really helped my game
Great golf content and a stunning specimen of man…
😂
Peter ... are the bigger grips still helping with the wrist issues? You're not wincing in pain anymore, so it seems like maybe it is???
Ok, that putt made you deserve a like. 👌
You need to get back on that LAB train with your putting!
Please do golf fitness videos 💪😎
Pete, brilliant video with some fantastic advice for golfers of any standard. You seem to be playing great golf this year so far and I hope it carries over to the quest for the Open!
what are the p - averages?
That was a jammy putt Finchy! Great video thou, thanks.
I enjoyed this. In the last year, course management has become a much bigger concern of my game as my swing and driving have allowed me to be more consistent. I'm having to play courses differently than I did in the past because now I'm further up the fairway or past that dog leg I could never get beyond. Knowing what you can and can't do is a huge piece of getting around the course.
Straight over from Insta live 👍
my guy!
That last putt 🤣👏🏻
GR8 vid Peter
My thoughts on shooting par:
“I know what I have to do… but I don’t know if I have the strength to do it”
12:30 greatest putt of all time? That easily could've gone 10 plus feet past the hole
Great putt at the end there! 😂 Hey Pete, I know you're busy, but please can you let me know the name of the video you made some time ago. Featuring a golf-handle trainer, which hooked up to an app and you said was great! I really want one and I can't find it by randomly looking.
Thanks!
Surprised you didn't break the flagstick with that last putt
Pete, I smashed the like button but also smashed my mouse in the process.....
You are the best Pete. Plan your shots helps so much. I like to call it playing the percentages. Either way is good. Thanks
shot scope's watch is a piece of trash unfortunately! takes ages to connect to the courses if you even manage to at all :( never using mine anymore
Hi Peter, love the channel. Do you play with the jumbogrips on all the clubs? and what do you think off them.
Yes indeed, love them
I like thinking about all shots as if they're a putt. All that matters is the swing weight and starting line. Where it finishes is a result of getting those two things right. For me it means way less thinking when I'm over the ball, which means better shots!
Last season I never shot 100 or above. Been golfing for 2 years. Started with a starter set got mizuno jpx hot metal pros. I know they are a little bladed for forgiving clubs but hit them semi decent. Im 6'5" and find myself coming up on clubs no matter what club but especially 3 wood. Any tips? But to continue with my first sentence, I've gone out 4 times this year so far. Live in the states in the new england area so season just started like last week. First time 100 on a links style course. Second time 95 on same course. Third time 92 on that course. Forth time 38 on a par 36 nine hole course. Best golf I have ever played. Bird on 8 and 9. Nine is an island green. End of my rant love the videos Pete and if you or anyone can give tips on coming up on the ball that be huge! Thank you in advance
Bet tip ever “just wack it”
I think this applies more than people realise
How the hell do you swing so slowly? Love the video, thanks.
Unbelievable!! I played Reddish Vale yesterday!! 🤣 my dad was a green keeper there over 50 years ago and we played for his birthday.
going for PAT in April, mapping the course tomorrow. Planning from green to tee, sight lines, targets, and green speeds
"Keep ego out" best advice around
Think you got them stats wrong from 30ft! We know what you meant though 😃. Great vid.
Excellent again! I think the course management videos translate the best as far as affecting my actually golf game. The tips are amazing, but even the most simple ones take time to implement to ones specific swing. The course management is instant, and makes me feel like I’m actually playing golf - which is ultimately why we watch! And to support Pete! And to pretend the world isn’t on fire!
Havnt watched the video yet but I’m guessing you just get the ball in the hole in less than the amount of strokes on the scorecard!
You just confirmed that I have been on the correct practice path especially with the 3-6' putts.
Love my Shot Scope. Also GREAT customer service (not often you can say that about a company these days). Keep up the good work Shot Scope oh yes and Pete
